Johannes waited for her answer but she ended the call instead. The man sighed raspily while staring at his phone. He threw it on the floor as he loosened his tie. “Damn it!” He was even annoyed when he realized his irritation when his secretary ended the call.

“How dare you drop the call?” he clenched his jaw and took a deep breath. The woman inside his office snaked her arm around Johannes and slightly bit his ear.

“Why are you vexed? Hmm?” She asked, playing with the curls at the tip of his hair. Johannes slapped her hand. “Don’t touch my hair.” He coldly said. The woman smiled.

“Playing hard?” She clung her arm to his neck and kissed him. Johannes pushed her and wiped his lips harshly.

“Get out.”

“What?!” She was annoyed. The man had called her after a decade, does he think her time was free? She did her best to sneak out of his manager’s radar. She is an actress, and she had been waiting for the famous Johannes Alejandro to look at her and now that she got her chance, but he was suddenly pushing her away?

Ridiculous.

Why?

Because of the one that called him? Was that person more important than her presence? She’s even modeling for his company even after the contract ended because she was hoping that Johannes will attend to her. But he never did. He never even called her until now.

“Leave before I call someone to drag you out.”

“Asshole.” She closed the door loudly and even kicked a vase outside his office.

“Isn’t that Diane Baker?”

“You’re right.”

“Wow, she looks really pretty up close!”

“Why did she come from the CEO’s office?”

“Don’t you know?”

“What?”

“The boss had been having different women in that office!”

“Woah, how shameless—”

“Watch what you say! Are you insane?!”

“Am I not right? After what happened with Miss—”

“Didn’t you know what happened to Rona? The last one who mentioned that name got fired. She was one of the best but her career was over when she talked about it in front of the CEO,”

“Are you alright?” Harries asked her. She gave her a new cup of coffee. “You looked like a mess.” Nathalie smiled faintly at her. Harries sighed and sat beside the woman.

“You should have called me.”

“You were doing a surgery, Ries,”

“Still!”

“You’ve done a lot already, it’s fine. I’m fine.” Nathalie stared at her green eyes. Her lashes cast a shadow over her eyes as she looked at her with a soft expression. “You never changed, Nath. Still stubborn as ever. Tsk,” Nathalie let out a chortle as she stared at the children playing in the garden.

“I wish my brother had the time where he could play like that before. If that happened, he wouldn’t be so lonely right now,” her eyes heat up but Nathalie forced herself not to cry. Harries tapped her shoulder, “You were there for him, silly. I’m sure he wasn’t lonely,”

“The doctor said his condition was good last time,” Nathalie wiped the tear that escaped her eye. “Then why did he relapse last night? I was so scared, Harries. I thought I’d lost him,” Harries pulled her into a hug. Nathalie cried on her best friend’s shoulder; she was really scared.

When she read the text from Nathan’s attending doctor, she thought her world started collapsing. Nathalie did not even know how she drove herself to the hospital nor how she managed to get inside her brother’s room. She was cold and shivering in horror.

“Nathan’s fine now, Nath. It’s fine now,” Harries repeatedly told her. Praying that everything’s really going fine now.

Nathalie went back to work when everything in the hospital was settled. She was dressed in perfect condition as Johannes had required her ever since she started working for the man. She did not look like someone who had not slept for the whole week worrying for her little brother.

“This is your agenda for today, boss,” she handed him the tablet. Johannes stared at her.

“Where have you been?” She paused. Her eyes landed on his amber-colored pair and they locked with them. She smiled playfully, “Are you worried about me?” She asked, expecting the man to scoff at her.

But Johannes looked away as he gets the tablet from her hand. Nathalie stared at that behavior. Deep inside, she’s still hoping that what she was thinking was wrong. It should be wrong.

Johannes faked a cough and stood up from his seat. He went outside of the office as Nathalie brief him on what he needed to do for the rest of the day. The employees are greeting them as they walked past them.

“And in the afternoon, you have a lunch meeting with the Helion Corp.” Johannes's strides were huge so Nathalie had no choice but to practice walking at his pace. She is wearing heels but the five years of doing the same routine really paid off.

Not when they made a turn. Nathalie got out of balance! Her ankle twisted badly and she was falling to the ground. The woman had accepted her faith that she simply closed her eyes, waiting for her body to hit the floor but a minute had passed.

Nathalie opened her eyes, they widened when she saw herself lying on Johannes’s body. Did she drag him with her by instinct? Did she fall in his direction? Her head was full of thoughts while she stares at his eyes.

“You’re heavy,” Johannes complained as he held her back so he could sit up. His back slightly hurt, it was a rushed rescue. He was reading through the emails earlier when Nathalie tripped. Johannes tried to catch her but they both fell to the ground.

‘I’m glad she did not fall to the floor. Tsk, it hurts,’ he thought as he stretched his shoulders. His eyes widened. What? He’s glad? Johannes shook his head as he stared at Nathalie. Her eyes are still full of worry as they stare at him.

‘Do I like this woman?’ He asked himself.

‘Maybe?’ he was surprised when an inner thought answered him. He stared at her, they are still in an awkward position for an employer and an employee but Johannes doesn’t care at all.

Besides, this is a hallway where no employees are allowed as this is the way to the conference room. They only walked past this whenever they had a company meeting which they luckily hold every Wednesday of the last month.

Johannes was sitting with one hand supporting him. Nathalie tried standing up but the man dragged her. He pulled her closer, “B-Boss?” she asked nervously. Is he mad? She was overthinking again. This is the first time this ever happened and Nathalie is afraid she’d lose her job over such a rookie mistake.

She gulped when Johannes did not answer. “I-I’m sorry boss. I didn’t mean to—” she stared at his finger that blocked her lips. He leaned toward the woman, Nathalie could hear his breathing as they are just inches away from each other.

“Boss?”

“Tsk,” he clicked his tongue as he was now sure of what those sleepless nights thinking about where the woman is meant. His gaze is locked on the woman, and Nathalie is feeling confused.

“Kiss me,” Nathalie was even more puzzled when those two words left Johannes’s lips.

She freezes, and cannot move at all.

"Greatly embarrassed with what she asked, Nathalie simply agreed to what Johannes wanted. She ate lunch with him that day, but she never knew that there would be following invites from her boss. "Dinner?" Nathalie asked, still finishing what she was typing. She then glanced at her boss and raised her brows, "I am quite busy with the annual reports, boss," she said. Hoping that Johannes would let her go. It had been over a week since he asked her out to eat. To eat. And they really did nothing but eat in fancy restaurants around the city. It gave Nathalie the assurance that Johannes didn't have much interest in her and simply wanted a companion to have meals with. "Report? It's that time of the year already?" He asked, leaning to her desk again, placing one arm on the desk. His body was so close to the woman Nathalie needed to push herself back a little to back away from him. Just enough distance to make a space between them. Johannes was still reading the report when his phone r

"Ms. Taylor, this is what you requested," Ruth, an employee, gave her a pile of folders. She took them from her and went inside the office. She did not expect a woman to be there because Johannes had stopped bringing one for over a week. The woman smiled at Nathalie, "You're Johannes's secretary?" Nathalie smiled back. She put the folders on the table and greeted her. "Yes, I'm Nathalie Taylor. You are?" she handed her right and raised her brows. The woman reached for it and did a handshake. "Samantha Wheeler," Nathalie then remembered seeing her from somewhere, "Oh, you were the one who visited the boss last time. What brought you here, Ms. Wheeler?" She asked though she was sure it would be because the man would have her entertain him for the rest of the day. Samantha stared at her, reading her expressions, and it seemed like she had improved in doing so. Samantha smirked, "You think I'm one of his women, don't you?" Nathalie was surprised. She slightly froze and pulled her hand

Nathalie could still vividly remember that day. The sounds of breaking things in their house. The beggings of her mother, asking those men to stop. Her brother crying behind her. Nathalie could still remember, and to this day, she's still cursing her father for doing that to them. Her mother left them to her grandparents the next day, and she had only heard the news of her passing the next year because of an accident. Nathalie could not even mourn for her poor mother as she was busy attending to her brother, who was hospitalized that week. Nathalie tried looking for her father to ask him for help since she could not do anything as a mere minor. Her grandparents were too old to work. They are in the hide because loan sharks might show up anytime, and Nathalie doesn't want the burden that her parents left them to be passed on to her poor grandparents. They were good to the siblings. Though they could not provide them luxury like what the other grandparents in that town are doing to th

Johannes loosened his tie as he knelt down to level with Nathalie, who was still sleeping soundly. He took his phone and contacted Clinton to make a delivery of a hot porridge from his favorite restaurant in New York. They don't create porridge, but if they'd hear the request is from Johannes, they would indeed comply. He's friends with the owner of the restaurant and has been visiting there since day one. Johannes searched the internet for the things that he should do for a sick person. He had no idea what he should do. It was the first time he's put his hands on a person with a fever, and he did not want to mess up for some reason. "Why's there so many? Are these even true?" He complained when he was welcomed with at least a hundred recommendations. He was not often on the internet because he always had someone to search for things for him. Johannes rarely even uses his phone for such stuff. He does not even open his social media a lot! It would have been a miracle if he'd been on

A week passed and things got back to normal. Johannes does not even act the way he acted before which gave Nathalie more confusion. Especially when a woman comes into the office. "Boss? He's out for a meeting, ma'am. How may I help you?" Nathalie asked. The woman looks like she's in her mid-twenties. She's wearing a light blue, casual dress down to the top of her knee paired with a flat doll shoe that makes her look even younger. She looks lovely. "He called me. Can I wait inside?" Even her voice sounds angelic. She tucked her hair behind her ear as she looked at Nathalie. The employees in the company aren't even surprised that another woman is lurking around the office. It had stopped for a couple of days, but of course, Johannes being the Johannes, women would line up again. They are even betting sometimes how many he'd flirt with this month, especially since the end of the year is nearing. Johannes kept this profile around the company. Johannes's POV I woke up with a headache. I drank a lot last night. I saw soup on the table, and it was still hot. There was a note beside it, and I know too well to whom it belongs. I don't know if I should smile or feel agitated that she's acting the same even after what I said last night. I also did not know why I said that out of the blue. There was an urge in my chest, behind my head, telling me to ask her out. *** Last night... "Date me," I saw her freeze a little when I said that. She stepped back and smiled awkwardly at me. "Why would you do that?" Nathalie asked, wiping her forehead because of the heat. "He's hitting on you," "And?" Johannes stopped walking, faced her, and wrinkled his nose. "And?" He asks sarcastically. "Are you asking me why because you didn't know, or you're pretending not to know? Are you teasing me, Nathalie? I'm telling you that this is not funny," the side of his lips lifted as he looked at Nathalie with disbelief. Johannes sighed. Nathalie looked lost with the words he had just mentioned. He could not believe he had to explain that he liked her. "I asked you to date me. That means I like you. I am waiting for your response, yes. Did he remember that from the past? “Uncle Ken?” Yohan called him again since Johannes did not respond the first time. Johannes then looked at him and messed up his hair. “Come here, bud,” Yohan sat on Johannes’s lap and lowered his face. Yohan rubbed his hands against each other and then looked at Johannes with teary eyes. “Did Mama make a mistake to Uncle Ken?” he asked, crying now. “Yohan is the bad boy because I lied,” “What?” Johannes asked, furrowing his brows now since he could not understand him all too well. Yohan jumped from his seat and took something from his pocket. “Yohan was mad when he learned that you were getting married. I thought

One week had passed since Nathalie and Johannes had a check-up. Nathalie is fine now, but the latter seemed different. Johannes stared at her sleeping figure. "You're here again," Yael tried to get up but gave up when she felt an exhausting pain inside her stomach. It was so painful that her eyes teared up. Johannes panicked and ran to her. Worrying, he told Yael, "This is why I always come here. I told you you don't have to get up when I come here. How could you be so stubborn!?" He shouted to the poor woman. Nathalie’s POV I was about to get inside the mansion when I saw a familiar figure, but I doubt it was him. It would be impossible to see him out of his cave. “Nathalie Taylor!” I turned around and saw Harries waving at me. It had been so long since we last saw each other. She even nagged me because I was behaving unlike myself these past few months. “Harries!” I hugged her, and she kissed me on the cheek. Harries still treats me like a child, really. I motioned her to sit on the chair and asked a waiter to serve us food. “How was your trip?” “Terrible,” I furrowed my brows; this woman loves traveling like how she loves medicine. To hear her condemn her last trio like this, something must have had occurred. She rolled her eyes when a man greeted her with a kiss. Now I get it. Harries must have felt upset with her husband, Loki. Cohen’s POV I could swear I never intended to attend this fucking party. There were a lot of familiar faces though I am sure that they didn’t know who I was. How is it going with the firm?” he chatted with yet another man in a suit. Sebastian seems friendlier than the last time I saw him. I distanced myself a little since it would be a nuisance if he asked me to talk to his acquaintances. I sat by the bar, and the bartender gave me a tequila. I smirked and greeted him with proud eyes. He dares challenge me? Well, I have a pretty high tolerance when it comes to these types of drinks. I was enjoying myself when the host announced that the party was about to start. Cohen’s POV It felt strange waking up on a soft mattress. It had been a long since I last slept in one. I don’t know why it feels empty though this room is not even that big, to begin with. It’s cold, really. Winter is knocking on the corner of this house. I stood up after lazily staring at my ceiling for hours, trying to figure out what the hell was wrong with me today. It should be another day when I should visit the eatery and cook for them, but for some reason, I picked up my phone and told them I’d have to take a leave for today. "A party?" Ken just reached home after visiting Yael in the hospital. He did not want to leave her, but his family insisted that he stays at home. Yohan was with a nanny since he wanted to stay beside his mother. Johannes stared at his parents with a confused expression, "What party? Nathalie thought they would be here since it seemed like Johannes liked being around the children, but afternoon came, and there was no shadow of him, Yael, or her son. “Yael? She could not utter a reply and just forced herself to smile. Nathalie we
