Gwen's thoughts were on fire. She knew very well she couldn't say the truth, but her heart was clearly winning that battle. He was so close and giving her all the signs that he wanted the same thing.

Even though they were mad at each other, the sexual tension between them was very much alive. She could not fight that, no matter how hard she tried.

Finn had the incredible ability to make her rethink every single decision she had already made about him. It was clear as crystal that she couldn't be with him anymore, but every time they were close to each other, she started to reconsider every topic on the list.

Why couldn't she try again? Why did it have to be so hard for them to be together? She knew the answer to all of those questions, but that night, she failed herself; she failed being able to resist him.

His fingers were still around her arms, gripping her with desperation. Finn closed his eyes for a brief second, trying to control himself.

The kiss from the previous night was glue

"I already gave you a chance to disappear with your son forever but, apparently, you decided that our agreement was over. I'm only going to advise you once. Take your kid and get the hell out of this town, leave Finn for good, or face the consequences. You already know what they are."Gwen read the letter twice, her hands shaking compulsively. It was hard to breathe, her legs didn't seem to be following her command, and her brain was numb. She knew that was a possibility, but she wasn't expecting it any time soon. Just when she decided to try to make things work with Finn again. It was like she was being watched. Luck was definitely not on her side. She had to leave. Leave Finn, leave town, leave this new life behind; a life she shouldn't have allowed herself to live in the first place. She had been threatened before, but even so, she decided to play with fate. Now she would have to pay if she didn't do anything. Gathering the strength she didn't know she had, Gwen got up from the fl

"What? Why?" Gwen asked nervously, squeezing Cody's hand involuntarily."Do you have the written authorization from the kid's father to leave the country?" the attendant asked, and Gwen cursed herself. She never needed that before, so why were they asking for that now?"He doesn't have a father," she whispered, trying not to be heard by Cody. She couldn't say that in front of the kid, it didn't matter if it was a lie.The airline staff looked at her as if she was crazy and turned to type something again. People behind Gwen were starting to get impatient by the delay, causing exactly what Gwen didn't want; to attract too much attention."Miss Miller, that's not the information I have on my system. Could you please follow the security so you can clarify this?""What? No, I can't miss this flight," Gwen refused, noticing two security guards getting closer to her and Cody. She couldn't make a scene in the middle of the airport. People could recognize her or Cody, since he was the acknowle

"What did you just say? My mother?" Finn repeated. He couldn't have heard it correctly. "Yes," Gwen hiccupped, feeling an enormous weight lift off her shoulders. It was the first time she said it out loud since she told Stephanie about it. But reveal it to Finn specifically was entirely different. She had finally said the truth to him, and even though she was relieved for letting it out of her heart, she knew the worst was yet to come. "Are you kidding me? I know my mother is complicated, but accusing her of something of this sort is pretty evil, Gwen." he commented, frowning."I'm not accusing her, Finn. It's the truth, okay? She came to me on the day I found out I was pregnant. I don't even know how she knew about us, let alone about my pregnancy, but she told me to leave you or I could never see my child after I gave birth, she would make sure of it," she explained, desperate.Finn sneered."Come on, do you think my mom is that evil? Why would she do that to her own grandson or ev

Gwen's cheeks trembled with fear as she stared at the woman in front of her. The fur coat, the red nails, the jewelry on her ears and neck, all the classiness from someone she hated with all her heart."What are you doing here?" Gwen uttered the words with difficulty. "Are you not going to invite me in?" Mrs. Lane asked with a sneer on her face.Gwen sensed Stephanie approaching her from behind, but she didn't look; she was too busy trying to understand the presence of that woman in her apartment.Mrs. Lane didn't wait for an answer, passing by Gwen, entering her apartment without ceremony and uninvited."Good evening, miss," she said to Stephanie as she entered the living room.Stephanie didn't reply, and when Gwen closed the door, she could see that her friend was just as scared and surprised as her."Mrs. Lane, is there a reason for you to be here?" Gwen repeated."Let's not be too formal, you can call me Marcy," she said, taking off her coat and putting it on the back of the chair

It took hours for Gwen to finally fall asleep; she listened to the soft breathing of her friend for hours, touched that Stephanie had refused to leave her side. Gwen was still very shaken up, and her friend thought it would be better to keep an eye on her.The next morning, Gwen didn't feel like going to work or even getting up from her bed. All possible worst-case scenarios were taking turns inside her head the whole night, as Gwen fought her own brain to stop suffering with anticipation. She would have to trust fate, and also Finn. He was a billionaire after all, so he wouldn't leave his only heir to walk around the city without protection. He probably had security guards watching Cody. Or at least she hoped he did.She would have to think of a way to prove to him that she was telling the truth, but that would take time and she had no idea where to begin. Marcy was a very powerful woman, perhaps even more than Finn. There was no way she would show her nasty, conniving side to her son

"I had some time to think about what happened yesterday and I have come to a conclusion," Finn started, paying close attention to her reaction. "I will pretend nothing happened, and we'll keep doing what we were doing before… Regarding Cody, I mean."Gwen blinked a few times. "What?" "You heard me. I won't do anything if you promise me you won't try anything of this sort ever again. Cody is my rightful heir, Gwen, and I'm his father. You can't take him away from me like that," he explained, like she didn't know it already. She was simply acting out of fear. If she had a choice, she would never do anything to hurt Finn or Cody."I was just trying to protect my son," she stated, concentrating on not losing control."Our son," Finn corrected her, with a firm voice. "And nothing will happen to him. I'm not stupid, Gwen. I know I have enemies, I'd never leave Cody unprotected."She didn't want to tell him again that in this case, the enemy was his mother, since she knew he wouldn't belie

It never crossed Gwen's mind that she would bump into Finn in this event. He hadn't mentioned anything to her, but giving it a second thought, he didn't have to. They were not a couple, and Cody was staying with her that night, so he could do whatever he wanted. But seeing him there, extremely handsome and sexy, drinking from his glass of whisky, was not the distraction that Gwen had in mind for the evening. She wanted to forget about all the things that happened in the last few days, and not have to stare to one of the main reasons she was trying to have a night off.Looking at Finn, it was evident that he wasn't comfortable with her there either. In fact, his body radiated anger and annoyance ever since their eyes met. Gwen was trying very hard to avoid him, pretending he wasn't even there, but it was like their eyes were magnets that were attracted to each other.Clyde was being very friendly with everyone around him, so she wasn't sure if he had noticed Finn's presence or not. In the back of her mind, Gwen knew what she was doing was wrong, especially because she was more than sure that Marcy was watching her closely now.But it was hard to avoid her feelings for Finn, mostly because every time they were together, he kept provoking her and making her feel things she didn't want to feel."Finn, we can't keep doing this," she whispered, pushing him away slightly for a second. But he didn't seem to be listening. He kept kissing her cheeks, lips and neck. "I mean it," she tried again.Finn looked at her for a brief second, his eyes dark of lust."Gwen, you know you want the same thing as I do. I can feel it," he stated, squeezing her waist. "Why can't you just enjoy the moment?" "Because… I can't," Gwen swallowed, holding in the words that she knew wouldn't have any effect on him. He had told her not to mention his mother ever again, and that was definitely not the moment to do it. They were both drunk, and she wanted to focus on his body against hers, if only

"What are you doing here?" Finn asked, recovering from the shock of seeing the woman at the door. He had just received the call he was waiting for the entire day, and he did not expect her to show up so soon. In fact, he wasn't expecting to see her at all.Marcy sneered, passing by Gwen as if she was just part of the furniture. She didn't even glance at her."It came to my attention that you were investigating me," she said towards Finn. "Imagine my surprise to know that my son was sending detectives to put their noses in my businesses?" Gwen watched, with her mouth opened, the woman make herself at home as usual when she simply grabbed the glass of wine they were drinking at the balcony and sat on the couch.Finn's expression was hard to read. Gwen couldn't tell if he was shocked, angry, sad or disappointed. Or maybe it was all of those.Marcy opened her small crocodile skin handbag and took a cigarette from it, lit it up and inhaled very deeply, unconcerned about the two staring at

The next morning, Gwen opened her eyes, and Finn was still by her side on his enormous bed. She didn't remember when they finally fell asleep the previous night, but just the memories of their rendezvous made her feel butterflies in her stomach again. She had so much she wanted to ask him, so much to catch up, but she'd rather take things slower this time."Morning." His hoarse voice echoed by her side, and she turned to look at him."Good morning." She leaned forward and placed a kiss on his cheek."Are you feeling better?" Finn asked.Gwen nodded, still mesmerized that she was really waking up by his side. If her past self saw this scene, she wouldn't believe it."Guess we'll have a lot to catch up on the next few days, right?" he joked, pulling her closer for a hug.She stayed there, quiet and cozy against his chest, only feeling him breathe and enjoying that moment."Do you think Cody is already awake? I was thinking we could all skip work and class today and just do something fun,

The touch of Finn's chest on her skin made Gwen beg for more. Her body was physically aching from wanting him so bad. She had no idea how she could feel something so strong like that, and it only made her want to continue.Finn had been caught by surprise, but as soon as he realized that Gwen had taken the initiative, which meant she wanted the same thing as him, he put his hands around her waist and pulled her even closer. His hands were unraveling every part of her skin that was uncovered, but it didn't take long for him to get rid of her dress.Gwen felt his fingers squeeze her thighs and her butt, making her gasp with desire. She wanted him. It was that simple. Passing her hands all over his bare chest, she started to push him backward. When his legs bumped into the mattress, she shoved him over it, forcing Finn down on the bed. He widened his eyes at her, and Gwen saw the unspoken question in his gaze. But she had made her mind, and she didn't feel like talking about it at that mo

"Are you sure your heard her voice?" Finn asked, his expression now darkened. "Maybe you imagined or dreamed it, Cody." But Cody was shaking his head firmly."No, daddy. It was grandma. I called her but she didn't come to see me. I think she doesn't like me," Cody stated, lowering his head.Gwen felt sad for her son, but that's what she wanted to hear. That was enough proof for Finn to believe her now, right? If Marcy was at the same place as Cody when he was kidnapped, that was more enough to prove her involvement. She wondered if Finn would think the same.Afraid to make eye contact to him, but dying inside to see how he reacted, Gwen lifted her head to look at Finn, and the scene she saw was heartbreaking. He looked devastated. His shoulders were down, as if he was carrying a truck on top of them; his eyes were looking at Cody, soulless and incredulous; it was like all his energy and kindness had been ripped from him."It can't be…" he murmured to himself. It had been ages since Gwen had woken up feeling so poorly. The sheet beneath her was soaked in sweat; her head was heavy and her whole body ached. Even the slightest movement made her regret moving at all."Oh, God…" she murmured to herself."Are you alright?" Finn's voice echoed in the dark. The whole room was dark and it was hard to tell where exactly she was. She saw Finn's silhouette as he slowly opened a curtain, letting in the morning light.Gwen blinked a few times to adjust her sight to the sudden brightness, and then she saw the most beautiful sight she'd ever seen. Finn was there, looking at her with concerned eyes, his hair wet, wearing only black clothes which Gwen though that made him even sexier. He came towards her holding a tray full of fruits, pancakes with syrup, orange juice and cereal. A whole breakfast meal just for her; and in bed, which was something that Gwen was not used to at all."I… I think I've had better days," she finally answered, after recovering from

"Is he alright?" she asked, getting up from the bed hastily. Her head spun for a moment, and Finn had to hold her and put her on the bed again."Yes, he is. They are bringing him to us now."Gwen started to cry again as soon as reality hit her. Her son was okay. Nothing else mattered at that moment. All she wanted was to take Cody in her arms and hug him like she never did before. The next minutes passed in slow motion for her. She could hear the clock ticking and she couldn't stop shaking her legs impatiently.Finn was walking from side to side, very thoughtful. He didn't say anything else, which bothered her for a moment. But she also thought it was better that way, because she still had a lot to say to him about his mother, and without proof, she would only provoke another fight. When she heard the doorbell, it was like her soul had gotten out of her body. She rushed to follow Finn, who had already been on his way to open the door. When her eyes fell upon the little boy, wearing the

If she was right, there was nothing she could do, her hands were tied. But she wouldn't leave her son alone. She would go through hell to get him back."Gwen? Gwen!" She hung up the phone, and gathering strength from somewhere deep inside her soul, Gwen got up and rushed to the elevator to go to Finn's office. As soon as she got there, she didn't wait to see if she could come in or not. She simply burst in, invading his office like she owned the place. She didn't care what he was going to think about it, Cody's life was much more important than anything else."Gwen, what happened?" He looked at her with puzzled eyes. He was checking something on the computer screen in front of him, so Gwen

"Are you sure about this?" he asked, taking another sip from his drink. "You won't have another chance like this in your life ever again. His jaw was clenched, his eyes were avoiding Gwen, and his knuckles were white from gripping the glass so hard."I'm sorry, Clyde," she repeated. "I didn't mean to hurt you. I really thought we could make this work, but I can't. I'm a mess right no-""Fine," he interrupted her. "You don't have to explain yourself to me. You can do whatever you want.
