Chapter two

I stood speechless, my mouth opened as I watched Max.

“Is it something I can do, will I be able to go through with it?” She thought out loud.

"Yes you will, do you know why?, because looking at you, I know you can accomplish anything you set your eyes on." Max answered her.

“You know I was not talking to you." But I could not deny how his words just made me feel… powerful. I no longer felt small and stupid, but can I trust this stranger?.

“I'll do it, let's get married." “I'll sign the contract and you are going to keep your end of the bargain, you will help me." 

"You can be certain that I'll do anything for you.” Max replied with a smirk on his face.

This stranger was a puzzle, one that I was going to solve but before that she had to ask a question that's been on my mind since this conversation started.

“What do you get out of this?"

Max shook with laughter before answering, "I'm getting you as a wife, is that not enough?” He sombered immediately, revealing a predatory gleam in his eyes. “Let’s just say I have my reasons for wanting Daniel and June to suffer.” 

I realized that was the only explanation I was getting. Well it didn't matter anyway, He was here to help and right now I could not bring myself to care about his intentions.

“So when are we going to getting married?” I asked.

“Right now.” He replied, that smirk back on his face, as he watched for my reaction.

"Okay, I agree.” "Let's go.”

We walked back into the church, where we met the Minister who was supposed to officiate my wedding. Pain pierce through my heart as I remembered.

“I would like for you to join us together.” Max asked the man. The minister stood staring at me. 

"If that's what she wants.” The minister said pointing at me. I nodded. "It is what I want Sir.”

"If it is what you want, come this way, let's begin.”

I thought about how my life has changed in just a day, and the day is not yet over. I thought about the man standing before me, I thought about my parents, how they never loved me but only what I could bring to the house.

I thought about Daniel, how I promised, I will always love him forever and how that love was thrown back in my face

I was getting married, not to Daniel but to Max, a very strange man.

“You may now kiss the bride." I heard the minister say. Wow! I was married. I had gotten married not for love but for revenge.

Max gave me a peck on the cheek and I was glad for that. I was not ready to kiss him. “Let's go." he said to me.

We both left the church, standing outside. I was nervous, very nervous. There was nothing I could do now. I do not have the time for regrets. What is done is done. 

“We will go to my car, then sign the papers, you will be able to go home, pack your stuff and come to my place, my driver will assist you with everything." Max was speaking to me. 

" Yeah, yeah…” I was too stunned to speak.

"Selena are you alright, let's sit down, my car is not far from here, you can take your time to get yourself together, there's no problem.”

“I'll like that, Thank you."

We walked to his car, he handed a bottle of water to me, and I drank from it, then he left me to get myself together.

After a while he came back, handed me the contract, which stated that they will be together for two years, and he will help me with his resources and that they will not be hiding the marriage not from anyone. 

I agreed to it all, after signing, the driver took me to my small apartment, Max and the driver, whose name I plan on knowing, helped me pack my things.

I did not know how many hours it took, it felt like forever and then we were on our way to Max's house.

I wondered if we were going to stay in the same room, I had forgotten to ask about that.

“Sir, we are here.” The driver said.

“Selena, we are here.” I could feel someone shaking me, I had fallen asleep, when?...I wondered if it was the events of the day that had made me this tired. 

I came down from the car, and stared at the building before me, it was totally different from what I thought someone like Max would live in.

This was a family oriented house, has Max always lived here or was this something he just put together. Was he a family oriented man? I put those questions at the back of my mind, I was going to find out. I will learn more about him, his secrets and all.

“Welcome to my home, Selena." “ Or should I say our home, this is where we will be living, together as husband and wife, I hope you like it." “ If there is something you want to add or remove, feel free." Max said with a smile in his voice.

We went in, and I was loving every bit of the house. It was something I had always dreamed of, living in a house like this, and now it had come to pass.

I could feel Max watching me, taking in my reaction to everything I was seeing. I saw him open his mouth, he was about to say something.

"Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, you are home." I saw a girl not older than four running towards Max. 

Max carried the little girl, balancing her on his waist and smiled at her, a full blown smile, I was stunned. Max turned to me and said. “Selena meet my daughter, Trina."
