With Daniel's remarks still lingering in the air, Freda stood motionless.

"He was not only complicit in the cover-up of your adoption. It was him who made the suggestion."

Every look in the room weighed heavily on her. The cameras continued to record. The murmurs were becoming more intense. Williams gripped the podium more firmly.

Williams stated, "We'll address these allegations privately," in a harsh but restrained manner.

Daniel grinned slowly and knowingly. "Obviously. But doesn't the truth always surface?"

Daniel held out his hands in a faux surrender as security stepped in. "I'm going to go. For the time being." He gave Freda a wink and moved away. "But sister, you’ll want to hear what I have to say next."

Then, leaving mayhem in his wake, he turned and left.

Later on in the evening, Harrington Penthouse

Freda's thoughts were racing. Although the press appearance had left her feeling scared, she refused to show Daniel that. She had put up too much of a fight to let a man who had spent so much time in the background to destroy everything she had worked so hard to achieve.Williams placed a glass of water in front of her after pouring it. "We must have a plan."She gave a nod. "We obtain those documents first. We reveal him if he is lying."Williams was about to reply when someone knocked on the office door. With an inscrutable expression, Grace, Williams' longtime assistant and one of Freda's closest confidants, walked in.Grace remarked, "Someone is here to see you." "You should listen to what he has to say," he says. After exchanging glances with Williams, Freda nodded. "Send him in."A towering, well-known figure entered as the door widened.Freda gasped for air. "Alex?"Her brother, her surprising supporter, Alex Harrington, grinned as he approached. "You didn't think I would miss

Freda gazed at the man before her, her fingers digging into the fabric of her chair."Elijah," she said again, putting his name to the test.He nodded slowly as his dark eyes evaluated her. "So, you are the one who replaced me."The words were like a slap to her.Williams stiffened next to her. "She took nothing with her."Elijah's head cocked. "Daniel doesn't seem to think that."Freda pushed past her initial shock and let out a quick exhale. "What are you looking for?"A sardonic grin briefly appeared on his lips. "Responses." He looked around the room before settling on Alex. "And an opportunity to comprehend what I lost from my own family."Alex folded his arms. "Decades have passed since you left. Why come now?"Unfazed, Elijah leaned against the doorframe. "Because I was unaware of my existence until recently."Freda felt her heart tighten. She couldn't deny the weight of those words, regardless of her wrath or distrust."Elijah." Uncertain of what to say, she paused. "Where hav

"Come down!"The pounding of Freda's heart masked the faraway voice. As the first gun rang out, Williams' arms around her and pulled her to the ground.A severing crack! reverberated around the lobby. With a startled expression on his face, Jonathan Harrington stumbled back. On the front of his immaculate white shirt, blood gushed."No!" When Freda screamed, she tried to escape Williams' hold, but he held her tightly.Security personnel rushed into the room, brandishing their weapons and yelling orders. Breathing heavily, Jonathan fell to the marble floor. As she pushed through the confusion and dropped to her knees next to him, Freda's chest constricted."My father" It was a strange but genuine word.Jonathan opened his eyes. "Freda..." It was little more than a whisper. She pressed her hands to his wound and begged him to stay with her. Her fingers were saturated in blood.Williams was kneeling next to her and yelling commands at the security guards. "Now call for an ambulance!"Jon

Freda's pulse quickened as she stood before the full-length mirror in the private bridal suite. The dim shimmer of pearls and crystals mirrored the golden afternoon glow pouring through the curtains, while the delicate lace of her wedding gown clung to her body like a second layer. This wasn't how she had ever envisioned herself. Not with everything that had happened to her. Nevertheless, she was on the verge of marrying Williams Franklin. While she fixed her veil, her fingers quivered a bit, and her thoughts swelled with all that had brought her to this point. The betrayals, the conflicts, the falsehoods that almost broke them. Still, love had endured in some way. She spun around when she heard a knock at the door. Williams’s aide, Grace Hamilton, who Freda had come to rely on, glanced inside. "Are you prepared?" With a soft smile on her face, Grace asked. Freda took a sip. "I believe so." When Grace walked in, her usually sharp demeanor shifted to something nearl

As they crouched there in the darkened hiding place, Freda gripped Williams' hand tighter. They had a plan. Everything would change in the next 24 hours, including Sophia's demise, her father's fate, and their own future. But fear tore at her from the inside out. Williams had always been shrewd and prepared to risk everything for the people he cared about. The stakes were different this time, though. This was a personal matter, not merely a matter of business or retaliation. With her words hardly audible above a whisper, Freda acknowledged, "I still don't like this." Williams faced her, his eyes fixed on hers. "I understand. However, it's the only option. "He was right, and she detested it. While Sophia held Jonathan Harrington, James and Alex stood by the monitors, studying the facility's security layout. Alex stated, "She'll be anticipating backup." "We have to make sure she thinks you're alone when you walk in." James nodded. "We have an insider connection. Someone w

Like an indestructible storm cloud, the weight of Jonathan's remarks continued to hang in the atmosphere. Williams silently let Freda know she wasn't alone by tightening his hold around her waist. But the truth was oppressive—a new, dark force threatened their tranquility just when they believed they were free.Freda straightened her shoulders and looked directly into Jonathan's eyes. "Then tell me all about it. Who are they?"Jonathan's fingers clenched into fists as he paused. The Harringtons are what they are now because of them. Strong, invincible, and merciless. They erased me as I attempted to leave. But you—" his eyes darkened, his voice wavered. "There was no reason for you to exist. They view you as a threat now that you have taken control of the empire, even though your mother concealed you to keep you safe."Williams gave a chilly laugh. They do, of course. And I take it that these are the ones that supported Sophia?Jonathan gave a nod. "Like the rest of us, she was a pawn

Beyond the glass walls of Freda and Williams' new office, the metropolitan skyline glittered in the night air, which was thick with the smell of rain. Every square inch of it was theirs. A tribute to their perseverance and fortitude. Their future. But the claws of the past were still there.Freda flipped through legal documents as seated behind a gorgeous wooden desk. She no longer identified with the Harrington name, but it was more difficult than she had thought to rid it of its perversion. With his hands in his pockets and his piercing eyes focused on the city below, Williams stood by the window. He whispered to her, "They won't let us walk away that easily."Freda let out a breath. "I understand. However, we don't require their consent."Williams grinned. "I adore that about you."The intercom buzzed before Freda could answer. Grace's voice came through with a crack."Someone has come to visit you. He claims that it is urgent.Freda scowled. "Who is it?"A pause occurred. Then "Al

"What we need is here."Alex's remarks made Freda gasp for air. Her fingers were shaking a little as she held the flash drive he had put in her palm. This tiny gadget could totally ruin Margaret's schemes.Williams's eyes were keen as he leaned closer. "Are you certain this is all there is to it?"Alex gave a nod. "Jonathan's ledger. Every transaction. Every secret deal. It confirms everything we suspected—and more.”Freda took a swallow. “So, what do we do now?”Williams exchanged a look with Alex before turning to her. “We expose her.”Freda felt sick to her stomach. Exposing Margaret meant more than just stopping her schemes—it meant bringing down the last remnant of the Harrington power structure. They met in a private suite at one of Williams’ properties—neutral ground. Margaret sat across from them, her expression unreadable, a glint of amusement in her eyes.“You’ve been busy,” she murmured, sipping her tea. “But tell me, Freda, what exactly do you think you’ve won?”Freda sli

The cold air in the Harrington vault bit at Freda’s skin, but she didn’t flinch. Her pulse thudded in her ears as Elias Harrington’s voice echoed through the speaker embedded in the granite walls.“You found the truth,” Elias said, his tone unreadable. “And now you’ll bleed for it.”Williams placed himself in front of Freda instinctively. “You’ve already taken enough. Let her go.”Alex stepped forward, fire in his voice. “You locked away a legacy—buried it underlies. But this ends here.”A soft buzz interrupted them—the massive vault doors groaned and clicked. They weren’t locked in anymore.Freda’s heart jumped. Was this a trap? The doors creaked open slowly, revealing a dim corridor beyond. At the far end, silhouetted in the light stood Elias Harrington—elegant, tall, cloaked in his signature charcoal suit. He looked like a shadow carved out of legacy and guilt.“You’re brave to come,” Elias said, voice reverberating with age and steel. “But bravery alone doesn’t make you worthy.”F

Freda’s breath caught in her throat as the control room plunged into darkness. The hum of machines died. The only sound was the frantic thump of her heartbeat—and the voice."We’ve only just begun."She reached for Williams instinctively, fingers finding his. His grip tightened, anchoring her. On her other side, Grace clicked a flashlight on, casting a beam through the stale air. Dust particles swirled like ghosts. The control panels flickered—faint static pulses, nothing operational.“What the hell was that?” Grace muttered, scanning the corners of the room. “This wasn’t part of Cassian’s theatrics.”Freda’s spine stiffened. “That voice... it wasn’t him. It was different. Younger. Calculated.”“System override,” a mechanical voice droned from a nearby panel. “Engaged. Level Four lockdown initiated. Harrington protocols activated.”Doors slammed shut around them.Williams cursed. “He’s locked us in.”“No.” Grace crouched by the panel, fingers flying across an auxiliary screen. “This i

The silence in the safe room was too loud. Freda's ears rang with the noise of her heart pounding in her ribcage. The voice had only just stopped, and she remained still, staring at the one who spoke. The words appeared to have gained a life of their own, resonating in her mind. "We've located her."Williams shifted to stand next to her, his stance rigid. "Who is it? "The prototype?" There was an intensity in his voice. With her stomach in knots, Freda nodded slowly. Although she had anticipated this day, the burden of it was nearly too much for her to handle. Her sister, the one born before her, the one designed to be the ideal representation of the Harrington legacy, was here now after her entire life had been a lie. She was coming for what Freda had put so much effort into creating. However, Freda couldn't simply stand by and watch everything happen. Not when she had all she had to fight for at her fingertips. With Williams at her side, no.Grace's clear, concentrated voice cut t

The voice from the other side of the line echoed in Freda's ear, causing her heart to race. The voice was calm and steady as it declared, "I was the initial prototype." "Yes, Freda, I do recall you." She remained perfectly still, the vial tightly gripped in her hand, as the surroundings seemed to fade away. Williams, who had just entered with a serious resolve, observed her complexion fade. "Who was that?" he demanded in a quiet voice.Freda didn't take her eyes from her phone's screen. The words were clear even if the voice was twisted, almost artificial. "Remember me? What do you mean?"Without hesitation, the voice on the other end responded. "I recall every detail. Freda, you and I are not that different. We have the same foundation, the same blood, and, regrettably, the same curse."Freda's fingers dug into the smooth phone as her hold tightened. "What are you discussing? Who are you?"The speaker went on, "I was born first, but you're the heir." The first test was me. The lea

The scream echoed down the marble corridors of the Harrington estate.By the time Freda, Williams, and Alex arrived, security had sealed the hallway. Selene’s door was flung open. Her bodyguard was unconscious. And inside—Selene stood frozen, pale and trembling, her silk robe stained with blood. But it wasn’t hers.A man lay sprawled at her feet, a bullet lodged in his chest, the syringe he’d brought rolling under the dresser.Alex knelt beside him. “Dead,” he confirmed. “A clean shot. Straight through the heart.”“Who fired?” Williams demanded, scanning the room.“I did.” Selene’s voice was hollow. “He was already halfway across the room before I woke. If I’d been a second slower…”She didn’t finish.Freda stepped forward, gripping Selene’s trembling shoulders. “Who was he?”Selene stared at the body. “His name was Darien. He trained with me under Cassian’s program years ago. We were children then. I thought he was dead.”Freda turned to Williams. “That means Cassian’s activated mor

For a moment, Freda couldn’t breathe.Jonathan Harrington—her father, the man she believed had died before she was old enough to remember—stood in the corridor, alive and real. His once-proud frame had thinned, his eyes bloodshot with years of torment, but the commanding presence remained.“Dad…” she whispered.Jonathan didn’t smile. He didn’t reach for her. Instead, he looked over her shoulder, where Williams, Alex, and Grace hovered just behind.“We can’t talk here,” Jonathan said, his voice low, urgent. “There are eyes everywhere.”Freda’s heart pounded, caught between disbelief and instinctive trust. She stepped forward.“Where have you been? Why—why now? And what do you mean Cassian’s not dead?”Jonathan’s gaze hardened.“Because he never died in that fire. It was staged.”Freda sat across from her father in a cold, concrete-walled room beneath one of the original Harrington estates—a place so off-grid it didn’t exist in any legal registry.Williams stood guard at the door, while

You want him back? Give me what’s mine.”The screen cut to black. For a full five seconds, the room was silent. Then chaos exploded.“No way we’re letting you go in alone,” Alex growled, throwing his phone down.“She’ll kill him if I don’t,” Freda said quietly, her voice shaking.James stepped forward. “She’s baiting you. She wants you desperate.”“She already has what matters most to me,” Freda whispered. “I am desperate.”Grace placed a firm hand on her shoulder. “That’s why we need a plan. Not a reaction.”Alex muttered, pacing. “We’ve got facial recognition running on the video. Maybe we can trace the location…”“Do it,” Freda said, turning to James. “Get me everything on Selene’s know

The explosion outside the broadcast studio was deafening.Freda hit the ground as glass shattered above her head. James tackled her from behind a marble pillar, shielding her with his body. Sirens wailed in the distance. Grace shoved through the smoke, coughing, eyes wide. “Freda! Are you hurt?”“I’m okay,” Freda managed, shaking. “But that was meant for me.”Not a warning. Not a threat. An execution attempt. And the signature? Unmistakable.Selene had declared war.Back at the estate, everything was on lockdown. The Harrington guards were doubled. Surveillance was active again, with Alex overseeing every monitor. Freda sat at the head of the long dining table, flanked by James, Grace, and Alex, the silence heavy around them.“She’s escalating,” Alex said grimly. “And she’s doing it publicly.”Jam

It was one of Cassian’s guards—the same man who had been tailing her since her meeting with him two days ago.A single, clean shot to the chest. No hesitation. No warning.Grace looked up, her expression stone. “This wasn’t just a warning.”James emerged from the corridor, weapon drawn. “Whoever did this got past four security checkpoints. This was coordinated.”Alex joined them a second later, a deep cut on his brow. “Two others were found unconscious near the north wing. We have a breach.”Freda straightened. “She’s here.”They didn’t need to ask wh
