AURORA
I could feel all eyes on me as Steve walked into the room. It felt like nobody was on my side. Why would they be? They have no reason to be. My husband, who should be on my side, is just looking for ways to get rid of me. The same with Katherine, who just wants to take my place. Christina and Amy just want to get rid of me for no reason even after making me the head maid of the household. I smiled bitterly as Steve came forward. Once he tells the truth, all of this will be over. “Steve, do you know who this woman is?” Jacob asked him. He turned to look at me and I nodded for him to respond. “Don’t look at her,” Jacob said to him. “Now answer me. Do you know this woman and has she been to this house before today?” “Yes, sir,” that was Steve's reply. I was shocked and murmurs filled the room. “In fact, I have seen her more than once in the compound with Mrs. Crane,” he continued and my eyes felt like they were going to pop out. “What!” I screamed, “What do you mean, Steve?” I asked, sounding disoriented, “Why are you saying things that aren’t true?” “That’s because you said I shouldn’t say anything to anyone,” he replied. “What?!” I sounded shocked, “What is this about, Steve? Why are you lying to everyone? I didn’t do these things and you know that. You also know me.” “I thought I did, ma’am,” he said. “Ma’am?” Katherine scoffed, “She won’t be that for long.” “I think you have all you need to take her away, officers,” Jacob said to the cops. “Jacob…” I called out his name softly. “Leave my name out of your mouth,” he said to me. And faced the cops, “Please take her away. I never knew she was this person. Stealing and selling, and it multiply times, not once.” “I have noticed some things missing in the house, haven’t you noticed, Amy?” Christine asked. “Yes, of course. Only wish we could have known earlier,” Amy added. “Well, we know now. It’s just that I didn’t want to accuse anyone of anything,” Christine said. “I understand that, Mother,” Jacob said and Katherine held her hands. “You know, this isn’t the only thing that has gone missing. A watch with a golden arrow has gone missing too,” Christine declared. “She sold that to me also,” the woman whispered. I looked at Jacob, “Jacob, please,” I pleaded with him, “Your father wouldn’t have asked me to marry you if he thought for the slightest that I was a thief. He wouldn’t have asked.” “Guess you fooled him first,” he responded bitterly, “Take her away.” My hands were put in handcuffs as the cops questioned Steve. “Why haven’t you told your boss about this until now?” he was asked. “I didn’t know the full extent of the situation,” he defended himself. “I’m inclined to believe you,” the cop said and left him. “Me too,” Jacob added, “Steve has been with my family for so many years. He would never lie to me.” I felt my tears drop on my cheeks like raindrops and my hands tighten around the handcuffs. “Take her away and she should be charged,” Jacob said. As I was escorted to the cop’s car, my cry for help went unanswered. “Jacob, please. I didn’t do this,” I continued pleading. We got to the car and I turned around to see Katherine shutting the door and giving me a mocking smile. We got to the police station, and I was put in the same cell as the woman who framed me. Talking to her would be a bad idea, but I don’t have a choice. I need to know why she would do this to me, to someone she has never met. “Why?” I asked, vaguely. “Why what?” she asked innocently, like she didn’t know what I was talking about. “Do not pretend like you don’t know what I’m talking about. Why did you frame me?!” I shouted, my voice trembling with a mix of anger and desperation. The cell fell silent as everyone turned to us. “I’m sorry. But there is nothing you can do about it now,” she said, plainly. “You are sorry?” I asked, “You are sorry?” I asked the second time. “What will you do if I messed up your life? Will ‘I’m sorry’ fix it for you?” “Do not threaten me,” she blurted out. “Threaten you?” I scoffed. “You think that’s a threat. Watch and see what I will do to you once I get out of here,” I said directly to her face. “Okay, okay.” She surrendered, “I did it to take care of my daughter. She is sick,” she said. “This is the only way I could save my daughter, and Katherine promised to take care of the hospital bills,” she continued. “What are you saying, Katherine is behind this?” I asked to be sure. “Your enemies are much closer than you think,” she said. I stood up and looked at her disdainfully. “What about you? Aren’t you my enemy?” I asked, “You have ruined my life and now I will have a record on my file permanently.” “But your husband can help. He won’t allow his wife to serve time,” she said innocently. I looked at her closely and realized she actually believed what she was saying, and I laughed. “What do you think is the whole point of all of this?” she looked at me shocked, “The point is to get rid of me?” I answered the question she couldn’t ask. “Why? Why would your husband leave you in this place?” at least she could ask this question. “He doesn’t love me,” I said, sadly. “He never loved me. All this while, for five years of marriage, I have been alone.” I sighed heavily. She looks at me with pity, and I decided to take a chance. “Please, you can help me,” I said to her. “How?” she asks. “By telling the truth. Once you tell the truth, none of this will matter anymore,” I said. “What about my daughter?” “I promise you. I will take care of your daughter's bills. Please, I just need you to tell the truth to the cops.” She gave herself a minute to think. Then she looks at me, “Let’s have the cops bring in Katherine. I’m ready to tell the truth.” I smiled at her and requested for the officer to bring in Katherine. It took a while, but finally we were let out of the cell and walked into what looked like an interrogation room. Katherine and Jacob were here along with the officers who were at the house. “You have something to tell us,” the officer said to me. “I don’t, but she does. I have told you everything I know. But she is ready to tell the truth,” I said with confidence. “What truth?” Katherine asked, and I smirked at her. “What’s going on?” the officer asks, “What truth are you ready to tell?” She looks at me and faces the little crowd in front of us, “Please don’t listen to her. What I said in the house is the truth.” I couldn’t move. I stood where I was shocked. “She threatened me and even promised to sell me more jewelry,” she continued to lie. “She wants to hurt me, especially if I don’t tell you guys that she is being framed.” I felt chills run through my spine. “What? Why would I do that? What will I gain?” “Cut the crap!” she barked at me, “You said you will take care of my daughter's bills. How did you know my daughter was sick? How do you know about her at all?” “That’s because you told me about her?” I cried out. “I told you she is a liar and a thief,” Katherine said, “Is this the reason you called us here?” I turned to Jacob, “Please, Jacob, I didn’t do this. I didn’t steal or threaten to hurt a child.” I pleaded in tears. “You should charge her to court as soon as possible. Maybe she will learn there.” His voice echoed into a void. “Jacob, please….” I continued to plead for my innocence. He walks up to me with some documents in his hands. I couldn't take them because my hands were handcuffed. “You should sign those as quickly as possible. They are divorce papers.” I have cried a lot this past hour, but the tears that dropped this time were as painful as the feeling. At least he didn't take long to hand them to me.AURORAI held the divorce papers in my hands as I was led out of the jail cell.I'm in a cell after being accused of stealing a piece of jewelry, and my husband handed me divorce papers.“Where am I going?” I ask the officer leading me.“To the courthouse to get your sentence,” he said.“I won't get a trial to prove my innocence?” I asked.“According to the judge, the evidence is too overwhelming and the lady you sold to already took a plea bargain.”“I didn't sell anything to anyone.” I stood my ground.“When telling me won't do you any good. The law is the law,” he said.“Then the law should protect me because I'm innocent.”“Or you are just unlucky,” he mocked and his fellow officers laughed.I kept my head down as the mockery intensified. It's unusual for cops to joke like this. Katherine is probably behind this. She's been making my life a living hell ever since I married Jacob, and now she's getting the victory. The journey to the courthouse wasn't far. A drive of about fifteen
AURORAI opened my eyes, and my nostrils were filled with the scent of lavender. I turned my head and saw a perfume dispenser.Looking around, I didn't see the confined four-square walls typical of a prison. Instead, I found myself in a spacious, elegantly furnished room with high ceilings and large windows that allowed the golden morning light to flood in.The walls were adorned with beautiful paintings, and a luxurious carpet covered the floor. I felt the softness of the silk sheets beneath me and realized I was lying in an ornate, king-sized bed.A gentle breeze rustled the sheer curtains, and I could hear the distant sound of birds singing. My heart raced as I tried to make sense of my surroundings. This was a far cry from the cold, harsh reality of the cell in the police station I had grown accustomed to. Had I been dreaming? Was this some elaborate trick?I swung my legs over the side of the bed and stood up, feeling the plush carpet under my bare feet. I walked to the window an
JACOBI held the picture in my hands and stared at it for a while. That's been the theme of my days for the past five years. Looking at the picture of an empty police van with no Aurora in it.I picked up another picture, a snapshot of her taken at the station.I can't believe she's gone. I can't believe I didn't believe her or let her know how much I loved her.But because of my pride and arrogance, I may have lost her.Her voice rang in my head. Her words never seemed to stop tormenting me, day and night. Most nights I wake up to her voice, screaming at me to believe that she was innocent.I didn't spare her a glance as they took her away, and I haven't seen her since. The police believed she was kidnapped, but why?Who would kidnap Aurora, and why? They didn't seem to have answers to this question, and neither do I. Even after years of searching for her and answers to my questions, and employing private investigators to help.Nobody seems to know where Aurora is and what happened t
AURORAI could feel the rage rising inside of me as my eyes meant with his. Instantly my feelings weren't my own anymore. The rage was there but I could also feel a sense of happiness by just looking at him. This feeling has to be blocked away if I'm going to defeat him. I have to show an insane amount of anger or hatred towards him, because knowing Jacob, he is going to take advantage of it.“What are you doing here?” The sound of his voice made my thighs move, I mentally cautioned myself.“Back to your old ways, I see,” he said, moving to and fro around the office.“What exactly is that supposed to mean?” I asked with a lot of anger in my office.“A lot actually,” his voice hinted with a sense of mockery, “my mind has been in awe as of how you were exonerated.”“Don't judge a book by it's cover,” I said to him, swinging my chair in different directions, I then moved forward, “didn't your Mom teach you that,” I could see him swelling up, “how is she doing anyway?”“Keep my mother's
JACOBI watched as she walked away from us. She looks amazing. Her gown brought out some amazing curves I didn't know she had. Maybe if I had been paying attention I would have. Her hair flowed to her back, and her makeup blended with her skin. She looks stunning and looks like a goddess.I watched as men drooled on her and it made my blood boil.“Some wine, baby?” I heard Katherine's voice. I still don't understand why she insisted on following me to this event.“Yeah, whatever,” I said without paying attention. She grumbled and left my side. I walked around the event floor, carefully following Aurora with my eyes. Her laughter filled my ears and soothe me. She was standing with another woman, who was guiding her around. My eyes landed at the CEO and a frown grew on my face.Where was he when I came to the office earlier?Maybe he was done with Aurora and needed space. I didn't mean to say those things to her. But she can't see that I'm in love with her or I will be viewed as weak
AURORAImmediately his lips came on mine, I kicked him against his groin and gave his face a touch of my hands.“How dare you?” I looked at him, panting.“You come in here with your mistress and still dare to kiss me?” I asked rhetorically. He couldn't speak, he looked at me shocked.“I gave myself to you all those years and when a fabricated lie was brought before you, you couldn't wait to get rid of me without even knowing the truth and now you think you can manipulate me,” I spoke without taking a breath.“I didn't know, Aurora. I didn't know,’’ I could hear the remorse in his voice.Well, it's too late for that.“Well, you do now. You should go,” I said and turned around, backing him.“You need to leave right now,” I heard Spencer's voice and I turned around. The area where we are is dark so I couldn't see him clearly until he charged towards Jacob.“Don't hit him, Spencer!” I yelled.“Stay away from my sister and my family,” Spencer spat at him.Jacob just grumbled at walked away
AURORAThe ray of the sun burned through my eyes and it felt like a hangover. I didn't drink any alcohol last night, so what might this be?“Maybe it's as a result of your sexual hangover last night,” I heard myself in my head and my mind flashed back to it.I sat in front of the mirror, looking at my messy hair and flushed face. I look horrible but another thing I'm not feeling is Jacob's touch. I guess last night worked.Today marks a new beginning in my life. I have always been known as Jacob's wife, today I will be known as someone else.As my own woman, no boss to tell me what to do or a husband to tell me I'm not good enough for him.I put on my track suit and got ready to go for a run.“Going for a run?” Carina asked as soon as she saw me. I'm guessing from my outfit.“Good morning to you too,” I said to her.“Sorry, I haven't had coffee,” she said and I laughed.I could hear her yell at me as I raced out of the house.“Make sure nobody sees you,” I instructed my bodyguards.“W
AURORA “Wait what?! You were hallucinating?!" Carina asked, her voice filled with both mockery and concern. I had just finished telling her the whole werid story about what had happened in the coffee shop that morning, from seeing Jacob and making out with the coffee attendant just to get him jealous. I have vivid images of him that still lingered in my mind. "I don't know what I was doing or what happened," I said, shaking my head in frustration. "Might have been the coffee," I added, trying to brush it off, but Carina wasn't buying it.She scoffed, "I don't think it was the coffee, honey," her tone showing her skepticism. "Are you mocking me?" I asked, getting a bit defensive as I got into the car, taking in the warmth and the comfort that."I'm not mocking you, but I'm going to say something that you don't want to hear," she said, her eyes locked on mine with an unwavering intensity. "Here we go," I rolled my eyes, bracing myself for what was to come."You are still in love wi
