As I drove through my car towards the courthouse, I couldn't help but feel betrayed by Jacob's attitude. Why will he compromise the case like him? What the hell was he thinking?

“Martin is right behind us,” Carina said, looking at the rearview mirror.

I nodded and took a turn towards the street of the courthouse, “is Madeline going to meet us there?” I asked.

“I'm expecting a response from her,” Carina said, looking at her phone.

“Hey,” I said, glancing at her, “you don't have to be here,” I said to her. “It's okay for you not to be here,”

“We are driving towards your ex-husband, is it okay not for you to be there?” She asked.

“I'm just…”

“Looking after me,” she cuts me off, I raised an eyebrow and titled my head.

“I get it and I understand,” she said, “but I need to work, I want to work. Besides he won't be there,” she said and I nodded.

I pulled into the parking lot in front of the courthouse and headed in.
