Chapter 4

last update Last Updated: 2024-12-05 19:46:09

Reena trusted William so much that she was willing to go with him at that moment, if it had been anyone else, then she might have been more cautious. And William’s anxious expression was not making her feel better.

“William! For goodness sake slow down!” Reena yelled after the fifth near death collision with a truck on the dark slippery asphalt.

“You don’t understand.” William muttered through a clenched jaw as he ferried her across the road, only illuminated by the occasional blue streak of lightning.

“Then say something! Anything!” Reena exclaimed, fed up at this point. She had no idea where he was taking her, and was beginning to regret entering the car with him at all.

“I will take you to a safe house then I will explain everything.” William promised.

Nothing had gone right and Reena was seriously beginning to regret accepting the mission.

Swerving the car to a dirt road, William went on for awhile before slowing down in front of a what looked to be an abandoned cabin at first glance, and only professionals like they were could recognize that the false panels in the walls concealed razor-sharp blades that were capable of fending off intruders.

“Well this does not look very secure.” Reena bit out as she stared at him from the corner of her eyes, and he let out a tired grin instead.

“Quickly, get in.” William muttered through clenched teeth uneasily and Reena  shrugged, she knew for a fact that William would never hurt her, and that made her naturally more inclined to follow him.

~

“Fucking hell!” Reena exclaimed as soon as William finished speaking, to say she was shocked would be a severe understatement.

“Chief, that pathetic scumbag! “ She exclaimed again as she jumped to her feet in agitation, her thick waistlentght locks swishing behind her in agitation.

Reaching down angrily, she ripped the restrictive part of her dinner dress off, exposing her legs in a fluid motion, and William faltered in his speech.

“Jesus Ree, give a guy a warning next time.” He grumbled and Reena frowned, they were after all just a pair of legs, she might never be able to understand the ways of men.

“If what you are saying is correct Will, then the so called getaway car was supposed to blow up with me in it?” She asked pensively, ignoring WIlliam’s stupid little comment.

“Yes Ree.” He nodded affirmatively and Reena bit her lips again as she clenched and unclenched her palms.

“I just cannot understand why, no matter how much i think about it!” Reena could not help exclaiming over the cup of hot cocoa william had brewed for her, and he grimaced, the hand stroking the leg she had swung over his thighs a bit more forceful.

“The Agency is built on Secrets Ree.” He murmured, but for some reason it sounded sad to Reena, completely at odds with his carefree personality.

“Some secrets are buried beneath ashes and bones, others are hidden in plain sight, lurking just beyond the veil of our perception.” His voice had a strange timbre to it that Reena was not quite familiar with, an old soul? She never would have associated such a term with William, but stranger things were taking place, Reena thought as she finally drifted off to a dream riddled sleep, lips tightened and eyebrows puckered.

~

“The sudden disappearance of Senator Mcgauton has sent the entire state into a frenzy, as different speculations drench the air. But the FBI has been said to have taken over the investigations and would do everything within their power to ensure the safe return of our beloved Senator. God bless America!”

“God bless America,” Caelan repeated slowly, a smile spread over his lips. the tiny piercing at the sides glinting a wicked silver. “God bless America!” He exclaimed again, the smile stretching even wider before turning into a full blown cackle that was capable of making babies cry. “God bless fucking America!” He hollered before doubling over as he clutched at his side, and his guards glanced at each other uneasily; The young Don was crazy, in every way.

“What do you have to say to that Mcgauton?” Caelan asked as he staggered merrily back to his chair, and to stare at the bound man sitting in front of him. A muffled noise escaped the gag secured tightly over the mouth of his prisoner, and he nodded sharply to the man standing behind the prisoner, and in the next moment his mouth was freed.

“Thorne, you bastard!” Mcgauton finally spat out as his hateful gaze settled on Caelan, causing a wider grin to spread across his lips.

“Tsk, what a disappointment,” Caelan shook his head at this. “I thought you were going to say something a little clever.”

Mcgauton’s face was an ugly mottled red as he glared at Caelan in front of him.

“You crazy bastard.” He shook his head with a pitying smile as he stared at Caelan. “The whole state is going to be after you like a dog with a bone and they will find me.” He ended, the hatred brimming in his bruised eyes.

“Then I will kill you myself.” He ended, and Caelan’s eyes narrowed at the slimy man in front of him. He was a person of very few morals, and should he decide to go to a confession one day, his words would probably drive the poor father to suicide, but even then, he felt a sense of righteous anger when staring into the cold eyes of Mcgauton.

“You know what Mcgauton is?” Caelan asked nonchalantly. “I have never liked you.” He smirked, before walking casually to the glaring man and holding his face tightly with one black gloved hand, before grabbing a poker from the fire nearby, and pressed the flaming end into one of Mcgauton’s glaring eyes, and a symphony of sick screams and cries filled the air.

~

“You were not supposed to maim him.” Mason Thorne, Caelan’s older, but half brother sighed as he walked into the elevator beside him, causing Caelan to pause.

“You have been getting defiant lately.” Caelan mused as he turned to his older brother, but Mason gave out a resigned smile as he held up his two hands to the air as a gesture of peace.

But Caelan was not fooled as he walked calmly into the elevator after that. He knew his brother, and he knew him well.

~

Mason gritted his teeth as he stared at his face in the mirror and the emptiness underneath his eyes, they were a mottled silver, a sign of his corrupted bloodline, the only reason why he had to continually defer to his younger brother.

You have been getting defiant lately. He could still hear his brother’s mocking voice as he stared at him earlier with bright mocking eyes. Unconsciously, he tightened his hand on the head of the girl kneeling before him, and she immediately started tapping at his thighs on either side of her head urgently with her hands, and he grinned.

She had been doing a sloppy job so far, but perhaps now he could finally enjoy it, he grinned again as he pressed himself even further up her throat until the weak and futile struggles from her eventually ceased, and only then did he let himself go with a powerful groan, and let her lifeless body fall to the ground.

Bending down, he gave her one final kiss on the forehead. She had been his brother’s favored whore, and as such made her the target of depraved men like him. His thoughts could not help but return to the little thief in the red dress, she had had the guts to blow him a mocking kiss before jumping to freedom.

He still could not understand his brother’s strange command not to pursue her, but one thing he knew for certain is that she was stunning, and she was his. And he would find her, whatever it takes.

As She was dragged to the truck blindfolded, she knew that any attempt at fighting back would only backfire. And Reena knew her plans had failed, but it could only be because of two things, either Will chickened out of the mission she had sent him on which was highly unlikely, or he was gunned down like a dog on sight, which was frankly more believable. The previously damp and humid air began to lighten significantly, which told Reena that they were back on the highway, and she could not help but sigh in relief, afterall they were less likely to get rid of her body this way. The van finally jerked to a stop, and Reena was flung forward on her seat. The past few days without food or water had taken its tolls on her, mentally and physically. She felt weaker than ever, which increased her anxiety. “What’s going on?” She asked anxiously, the air was still light, meaning they were still above ground, and unless they had changed the location of the Fold, she knew that something was terri
