[Arella]

“Thank you so much, Doc. I really appreciate your help,”

I say to the phone, a smile lighting up my face. The soft hum of the line fades as it disconnects. My heart feels lighter, a wave of relief rushing through me.

I feel like I could almost float as I skip to our bedroom, the familiar warmth of the space embracing me. Lincoln was having a bath when I entered, but he was already out and in his sleepwear, his broad shoulders draped in a soft, worn T-shirt.

He was bent over his laptop, his focus entirely on the screen.

“Aren’t you going to blow dry your hair?” I blurt out, my gaze locked on the wet tendrils of his dark hair clinging to his forehead, droplets of water glistening under the dim light of the room.

The air around me feels warm and heavy, the faint scent of lavender from his body wash mixing with the musk of his cologne.

He chuckles, but his eyes remain focused elsewhere, distant.

“And why would I do that?” he asks, his voice soft.

I frown. He’s been o

[Arella] As my wife. The words keep ringing in my ears, looping over and over like a song I can't turn off. All day at work, I’m distracted and confused. Lincoln didn’t demand an answer to his request, but I could feel it—oh, I could feel it—oozing off him. The intensity. The silent urge to make me agree. To make me say yes. My head is so muddled with thoughts that I don’t even notice where I’m going until—bam!—I bump into someone. “Oh, sorry!” “Easy there, girl,” Sasha coos, steadying me with a firm hand on my arm. “Thanks,” I breathe out with a laugh that feels a bit forced, even to me. “Your head’s been in the clouds all day.” She eyes me suspiciously, her lips quirking in that way that says she knows exactly when something is up. “Is anything wrong? Something got you distracted?” I flush under her scrutiny, the heat blooming up my neck and cheeks. “No, no. It’s just…” I trail off, shifting awkwardly. How do I even begin to explain? Sasha isn’t buying it, of course. With

[Arella] “Did you just say husband?” Bridget clarifies, her voice climbing an octave. She looks more like a giddy high school teen than the royal princess and polished CEO of this company. Her perfectly tailored white blazer gleams under the soft glow of her office lights, and the pearl earrings she always wears bob slightly as she leans forward. I nod, avoiding her gaze. Sasha, in her signature emerald-green jumpsuit, remains too stunned to speak, her wide eyes reflecting her disbelief. “But how did it happen? How come you never told us?” Bridget presses, her tone teetering between curiosity and excitement. She brightens up, a smile spreading across her face. “I didn’t want anyone to know,” I admit quietly. “Even his parents don’t know. You know how it is with me in the media.” Bridget nods understandingly, reaching out to hold my hand. The warmth of her gesture is comforting, but the memories of Deric's scandal still linger at the edges of my mind. “Is this about the Deric s

[Arella] “You’re welcome, ma’am.” I look up with a smile to find Janet, Lincoln’s assistant, walking toward me. She’s dressed in a crisp navy-blue pantsuit that somehow looks effortlessly chic on her middle-aged frame. Her brown hair is tied into a neat bun, and her smile lights up the parking lot. “Hi, Janet. Sorry for disturbing you like this,” I say, feeling a little awkward. “It’s okay, ma’am.” “Please, just call me Arella,” I say, trying to ease the formality. Her smile widens, softening her features even more. “Okay,” she says simply. “I hope Lincoln isn’t aware, I want to…surprise him” “No, no one is, ma’am—I mean, Arella,” she replies quickly with a small chuckle, gesturing for me to follow. She guides me to a separate elevator, one tucked discreetly away from the main lobby. The polished steel doors gleam, and the faint hum of machinery fills the quiet space. “Don’t worry,” she assures me as the elevator doors close. “This is Sir’s private elevator, and it

Pregnancy hormones are clearly making me reckless, and watching him try to stay composed is just too amusing. “Out, Jordan,” Lincoln finally says, his tone clipped. “What?” the other man asks, clearly confused. “You heard me,” Lincoln deadpans. “Okay, okay. Sheesh. See you after lunch,” Jordan mutters before the door clicks shut. It takes all of two seconds for Lincoln to grab me and lift me out from under the desk. I land on his lap with a startled yelp. “Jesus. Arella” His voice is filled with disbelief. “it’s really you?” I nod meekly, feeling a blush creep up my neck. “Sorry for teasing you,” I mumble. He palms my cheeks, his hands warm and firm, as if he can’t quite believe I’m here. “What are you doing here?” “I…” My words falter as I notice something that has been blushing a deep red, something hard poking my backside. He gives me a smirk. “You can't do what you did and not expect a reaction from me, Ella,” he deadpans. Great, just what I needed—a smirk from Lincoln

[Arella]Tugging at my dress for the umpteenth time, I swallow hard, holding onto Lincoln's hand as the nerves eat away at me like an insatiable beast. My stomach feels like it’s been invaded by a swarm of butterflies, all fighting for dominance. I’ve been repeating my mantra over and over in my head, clinging to it like a lifeline. You’ve got this, Arella. You’re fine. It’s just people. Judgy, rich people… but still just people.I must have squeezed Lincoln’s hand too tightly because he turns his gaze to me, his brows furrowing with concern, his thumb brushing against the back of my hand in a way that nearly undoes me. "You okay?" His voice is gentle, yet firm, like he’s holding me together with those two words. I nod, letting out a shaky breath that barely makes it past the lump in my throat. "Yeah, just nervous." He stops walking and gently cups my cheek, the warmth of his palm grounding me as his thumb strokes my skin in soft, soothing circles. The air between us feels cha

The faint scent of her floral perfume lingers as they embrace.“Happy birthday,” Lincoln mutters softly.“Thank you, child.”“Happy birthday, ma’am,” I add, tearing my gaze away from the middle-aged lady still seated.Play it cool, Arella. Don’t look too awkward. Breathe. As they separate, her eyes finally land on me. [Arella]I whip around, eyes widening as I practically leap off Lincoln's lap in surprise."You're here!" I blurt, caught off guard but grinning. "I thought you said you couldn’t make it."Standing there, looking sheepish and a little road-worn, is Deric. He scratches the back of his head, wearing that same awkward, harmless smile he has these days."I wouldn’t have made it," he admits, voice a little raspy from travel, "but my flight was delayed... so I thought, what the hell, why not crash the party anyway?""Deric," Lincoln says, stepping up beside me, his hand still resting easy at my waist."Lincoln," Deric replies with a short nod, his voice even. There's a brief pause—more out of old habits than real tension—before Deric extends his hand. Lincoln studies him for a beat, then accepts the handshake without hesitation, the corners of his mouth lifting in a faint, civil smile. The tightness I hadn't even realized was clenching my chest slowly eases."This is, uh, for your son," Der

I should’ve known better when he said he’d ‘take care of everything.’ With Grandpa, that’s just secret code for ‘go big enough to make even fairy tales jealous.’Mila giggles, but then her face goes pale. "Well, we all know how–"She cuts herself off, rushing to her son, who’s happily stuffing his face with edible flowers."Oh my God, Wayne! Spit that out!" she yells, running after him."No no! Cakeee!" he laughs, trying to run away.I roll my eyes and snatch the small board of tasks from her hands. "Looks like you’ve got your hands full already with this little turd," I mutter, pinching Wayne’s chubby cheeks. He sticks his tongue out at me, playful as ever. I shake my head and take the board from her, walking around the room, coordinating with the staff to make sure everything’s perfect.****"Why a

[Arella]TWO MONTHS LATERThe courtroom is cold, Not physically—but emotionally. It's almost too quiet. My hands sit frozen in my lap, unmoving for the past five minutes. A dull, anxious ache hums beneath my skin, but I can’t bring myself to shift. Lincoln sits beside me, our fingers tightly laced, grounding me. His other hand works swiftly over his phone, typing out what I’m sure are urgent work emails.Work had only gotten busier since he resumed. You’d think having two CEOs would make things easier. It only doubled our workload.I had tried to argue my way into stepping down, maybe becoming his VP or something less suffocating—but Lincoln wasn’t having any of it.Apex Conglomerate was clawing its way into the world’s elite, growing bigger, louder, more powerful by the day—and Lincoln made it crystal clear he wouldn’t let me miss a second of it.I blink myself back to the present as the judge adjusts his glasses, his stern gaze dropping down to the man standing trial. The man who a

[Lincoln]I mean, sure, Arella and I appeared on TV a few days ago when the Mayor of Chicago wanted to publicly appreciate our efforts, and I knew—rationally—that everyone must know I'm alive now. But I didn't expect this.I didn't expect the entire airport to already be flooded like a damn concert just to catch a glimpse of us. The jet had barely touched the runway, the tires still hissing from contact, and yet-it’s like the whole damn city of San Diego decided to show up for a party. From the distance, the sharp staccato of camera shutters echoes through the thick, humid air, flashes popping like fireworks across the runway. The chaotic chorus of reporters shouting questions and calling our names roars louder with every step we descend.A cheeky, loopsided grin spreads across Arella’s face as we start down the stairs of the jet, her hand still tightly locked with mine, her spirit practically buzzing with unbothered amusement. Her entire energy screams: I own this moment."You're lov

The jet hums beneath us, its quiet rhythm like a lullaby carrying us away from the chaos. We’d spent another three, exhausting days in Chicago, collaborating with the police and drug enforcement agencies to dismantle one of the city’s most dangerous syndicates, ensuring every production of that deadly injection was stopped in its tracks. But now, as I watch my wife sleeping peacefully-her face bathed in the gentle glow of the cabin lights—a rush of emotions fills me. It’s more than warmth. It's something deeper, something that settles in my soul and touches every fractured part of me. It feels like a healing, like a light that’s always been missing inside me, now shining so brightly it threatens to overflow. Heaven knows, if the roles were reversed, if I’d been the one forced to raise a child alone f
