“I think you have lost it, Miss Anna. You didn’t give birth to a child today. You only came here for a checkup.”
As the words left Doctor Fred’s mouth, Anna felt air leave her chest as she found herself struggling to breathe. She was confused and in pain since she was yet to recover from the hospital. What she was more confused about was how he was standing before her and spewing lies like she was an idiot. “Cut that stupid crap, Doctor Fred. You know that I am not stupid! You were in there with me a while ago and helped me give birth! What are you talking about?” Anna screamed at his face but, his stance was unchanging, and he continued to stare at her with a cold look. “Jacob will murder you if he finds out that you are trying to steal my baby from me.” She threatened, pointing at his face. Her screams were causing a scene at Doctor Fred’s hospital, so he decided to send her away. “We have been nice to you and even offered you free treatment for your illness, but, we will no longer do so. Please leave this hospital, Miss Anastasia.” He said and called some of the nurses to throw her out. “Let me go!” She fought, throwing their hands away, but she was too weak to stand a chance. “I want my baby. Please…I’ll leave once I have him. I beg you..” She cried, falling on her knees. Her chest felt tight, and her wails were loud. All she wanted was her child. The child that she had carried for nine whole months. As she looked around, she realized that neither Jacob nor Shayne were with her in the hospital. For the first time in Anna’s life, she felt alone. No one in the hospital believed her. Something did not feel right. Even the nurses were looking at her with pity, which meant that they knew something but had been threatened to shut their mouths. “Take her away.” Doctor Fred turned his back and left her on the ground, crying like a woman who had just lost her child. Well, she had just lost her child. As the nurses dragged her outside, all Anna could do was cry and beg them to let her see her baby, but no one cared to listen. “Anna!” She heard the familiar voice of her sister. “Shayne… .w-what’s going on? Why won’t they let me see my child? Where is Jacob?” The words left Anna’s mouth faster than she imagined. Her heart was pounding harshly against her chest and her hands were shaking. “It’s that bastard! He did this!” Shayne screamed, eyeing the bodyguards who were still preventing her from entering the hospital. “Jacob? Was Jacob here?” Anna asked, feeling a small ray of hope. “He’s a fucking bastard, Anna. He came in, threw me out, stayed for a few minutes only to leave with a bunch of nurses.” She said, gritting her teeth.. As she remembered Jacob leaving the hospital with the nurses, it then dawned on her what was going on. With a terrified look on her face and fresh tears pouring out of her eyes, she turned to her sister, who was already weak. “You just got played, Anna. Jacob and his family… they deceived you. That man has your child!” Her hands clamped down on her mouth as the reality sunk in. “N…no. That’s not possible. Jacob loves me…this… this has to be a misunderstanding.” Anna shook her head, cleaning her tears with the back of her palm as she forced herself to stand on her feet. “I should go and see him. I’m sure it’s a misunderstanding. It has to be a misunderstanding.” She said, doing her best to convince herself that Shayne was wrong. She had to be wrong. “Take me to his house…please.” She begged her sister. Shayne already knew that it was pointless as Jacob had already abandoned her. He was a beast who only used her for his benefit, but, Anna was too blind to see that. Shayne hailed a taxi and helped her sister get in as they both headed for the Wades Mansion. As soon as the taxi came to a halt, Anna flew out, leaving Shayne to tend to the driver. The only thing on her mind was to speak with her boyfriend and the father of her child…whom she still hadn’t laid her eyes on. “J-Jacob! Jacob, it’s me, Anna. Please, Jacob. Open the door.” Anna screamed, pressing the bell at the gate repeatedly. She knew that they could see her, thanks to the security camera which was at the gate. Shayne banged the gate like a wild woman, calling Jacob’s name, but all they got was silence. No one came out of the house. Thirty minutes later, Shayne was tired, and she could see that her sister was too, even though she was still leaning on the wall, pressing the doorbell like a crazed woman. “They aren’t going to open up for us, Anna. We need to go home.” Shayne approached her sister but , Anna didn’t care about her health. Her life was falling apart right before her eyes. “I… I can’t leave without speaking to Jacob. I can’t.” Her voice broke, and her throat felt dry. Shayne opened her mouth to speak when the gate suddenly opened and the person they had been calling out for came out of the building. His sleek black Range Rover drove out of the building and he stepped out. “Jacob!” Anna cried, running to him. Seeing him brought some relief to her. She believed that everything would be okay. But, she was wrong. “Why are you here, Anna? Are you mad?” His tone was cold, and his eyes were worse. The warmth and affection they used to carry whenever he looked at her were nowhere to be found. “You’re the one who is mad, Jacob! How dare you abandon my sister in that labor room only to leave and now, the doctors are calling her crazy! Where the fuck is her child?!” Shayne screamed and went to grab his collar, but she was immediately pulled away by two ugly-looking men. “Still so sharp mouthed, I see. You must know that I never liked you.” Jacob chuckled, drawing his eyes at Shayne who returned the harsh look. He tightened his jaw in annoyance before lowering his eyes to look at Anna. “You do not have to worry about my child, Anna. He is safe with me and the family, where he rightfully belongs. He will live as the heir to the Wades empire as planned. You have nothing to be worried about,” he said, and a small smile brushed Anna’s lips. Her shoulders relaxed in relief. “What about me? When…when are we having a wedding? Do I need to move into the house now that our child is here?” She asked, blinking her eyes continuously as her stomach bubbled in excitement. “What?” A snort left Jacob’s lips before he started laughing really hard, his shoulders shaking from the force. Anna looked at Shayne with confusion written all over her face. She couldn’t understand why he was laughing. “Did I say something funny?” She squinted her eyes in an innocent way. “Oh, Anna. Can’t you see what is happening or do you choose not to see it?” He said and she squinted further. She was still very confused. Jacob cleared his throat and tucked his hands in his pockets before opening his mouth to crush her soul. “Your work here is done. I wanted a child, you gave me one. Now, you can die for all I care. I have gotten what I wanted.” He said and Anna felt air leave her lungs.“Your work here is done. I wanted a child, so you gave me one. You can die for all I care. I have gotten what I wanted.” He said and Anna felt the air leave her lungs. “W... what?” She forced the words out of her throat. Her chest felt like it was about to rip into pieces. She must have heard wrong. Even Shayne, who already knew how much of an asshole he was, couldn’t believe that he would actually say those words to Anna’s face. He was truly an asshole Anna shook her head and grabbed his arm, her lips shivering. “Y…you are just joking, right? This is one of your jokes, isn’t it?” Her tone was unstable and her voice broke. Jacob only looked at her with disgust before latching his hands around her tiny ones and pushing her so hard that if it wasn’t for her quick-witted sister, she would have fallen face flat on the floor. “You are causing a scene here, Anastasia Walker. I'd advise you to leave… go far away and never come back. And, don’t even try going to the media or p
ONE YEAR LATER.“What do you think of Trevor, Anna? He’s a nice guy, and he’s a director at Mills Corp,” Shayne said, shoving a picture of the mentioned man into Anna’s face, hoping to pique her interest. But Anna remained as disinterested as ever. Ever since she was betrayed by Jacob and had her child taken away, it was as though a part of her was also taken away. They even had to move to a different country to avoid news about him and his wife, but nothing worked. Anna was still shaken by the incident even after a whole year.“You don’t have a boyfriend either, Shayne. Why don’t you go out with him?” Anna said with a sigh, continuing to scroll through her phone. Her eyes were glued to the phone, and they held a sad look as tears pooled in her eyes.“What are you looking at?” Shayne asked with raised eyebrows, but Anna was too immersed in her phone. Shayne quickly snatched it from her hands.“Jesus, Anna! Can you stop stalking this asshole? It’s been a year already!” Shayne raised he
“Christ, Anna. You are so not drinking again.” Shayne entered the room with two aspirin tablets and a glass of water. “One glass, Anna! One fucking glass, and you are already drunk as hell. This is never happening again.” Shayne grumbled. “I feel like shit.” Anna groaned as the headache hit her hard. “Come on,” Shayne said as she helped her sit up. Once she was up, she handed the tablet over to her and helped her swallow everything. “I’m glad I wasn’t too drunk to get you home. Well, Dylan helped us get home, but I did find you.” Shayne rapped, but Anna was too busy to regain her body. “Do you remember anything that happened after you left?” Shayne asked, and Anna nodded her head without thinking. “I went to the bar to get some rest and then…and then.” She stammered as her brain went completely blank. Anna took a deep breath and decided to try again. “I went to the bar to rest, and then I…oh my God!” Her hands clamped down on her mouth as she remembered the little scene s
Anna took a deep breath and began recounting her past to Tristian. “Jacob Wades was my boyfriend. He’s with my child. The current heir to the Wades Empire is my son, stolen from me by that evil family.” Anna continued, oblivious to the look on Tristian’s face. The mere utterance of the name ‘Wades’ filled her with anger. Tristian, taken aback, clarified, “Jacob Wades?” “I know it might be unbelievable, but it is true. I might not look like it, but the current heir to the Wades Empire is my son. He was stolen from me by that evil family.” Anna gritted her teeth in anger as the name she hated the most left her lips. When she looked up, Tristian had a mischievous smile on his face. She couldn’t help but wonder if he knew them personally. Not that she would be surprised. He looked like a wealthy man, and rich people always know themselves. “Do you know the Wade family? Not vague knowledge like everyone. You look like you have a personal relationship with them.” She asked with t
Anna’s eyes widened in shock, and her jaw almost dropped to the ground…almost. “I…He’s Tristian Reyes?” She stammered, her eyes still showing disbelief. “Are you kidding me right now? The man told you his name, for heaven’s sake!” Shayne screamed, gripping her hair out of frustration. “It didn’t occur to me then, Shayne. I had no idea.” Anna said, still unable to comprehend that the man she had just met was a renowned billionaire. “Well, call him back and tell him you’re interested.” Shayne suggested, prompting a baffled look from Anna. “I just left there an hour ago. I don’t want to look desperate. I’ll call him at night and ask to meet up tomorrow.” She said, and after giving it much thought, Shayne agreed. They sat silently for a few minutes, thinking about how things would change if they took Tristian’s help. Then, Anna suddenly remembered that it was still early in the afternoon, but Shayne was still home. “Why aren’t you at work? The last I checked, I am the une
Anna sent a text to Shayne, informing her that she was heading to Tristian’s office, to which Shayne immediately replied, wishing her luck and warning her not to miss this God-sent opportunity. "Thanks, boss,” Anna murmured with a relaxed grin as she read Shayne’s message. When she got out of the house, a black Range Rover was waiting outside, and a man who was dressed in black stood beside it. As she stepped out of the house, a black Range Rover was parked outside, and a well-dressed man in black stood next to it. “Miss Anastasia Wellington?” he asked in a professional tone, his expression as stern as stone. “Yes, that’s me,” Anna replied, clearing her throat and standing tall. “Mr. Reyes sent me to drive you to his office,” he said calmly, a striking contrast to his severe appearance. “Mr Reyes has informed me. Thank you.” She replied with a polite smile. The man nodded and opened the passenger door for her, to which Anna thanked him and got in. She couldn’t h
Six Months Later “You know it is your responsibility to feed the child. He is already over a year, and you haven’t fed him once.” Jacob’s mother, Garcia Wades, says, her voice laden with disapproval as she shoots a scowl at Emma. “Please, Garcia. You cannot possibly expect me to feed him. He makes a mess whenever he eats! I bet he got that disgusting habit from his surrogate.” Emma retorted, glaring at little Rowan harshly. Not understanding what was happening, little Rowan smiled at Emma innocently and held his hands out, wanting her to feed him, but she only gave him a look of disgust and turned to her food. “You are his mother. That is what mothers do!” Garcia slammed her hands on the table, startling little Rowan, who immediately burst into tears. “See? He cries at every chance he gets! Take him away and feed him elsewhere. I have a shoot today, so I can’t afford to be stressed. Carla!” Emma called his Nanny, Carla, who swiftly whisked him away upstairs. “It wouldn’t hu
AT REYES ESTATE GROUP HEADQUARTERS “We have received another call from the Wades, Mr Reyes. This is the fifth time this week. Don’t you think it’s time we give a reply?” Noah Allen, Tristian’s assistant, announced with a straight face, and Tristian paused, lifting his eyes from his computer for the first time in two hours. “Has it been five times already?” He asked with his fingers on his chin, then clicked his tongue and shook his head. “We’ll respond the eighth time. They should learn some patience.” He responded with an evident smirk on his lips. “Do you have a grudge with the Wades? Anyone would be eager to do business with the Wades. With an influence and generational wealth like theirs, dealing with them will be like hitting a jackpot. I heard a rumour a few days ago that they are making an entrance into the Estate Management Field. That should explain why they need you. This will be a huge win for us, Mr Reyes.” Noah advised, standing still. “I am well aware of how to ru
“Come, let’s go to my room. We should be careful, even in my house.” Anna said and led Emma to a guest room in the house.Even though she was now working with Emma to bring down the Wades, she wasn’t going to trust her fully as there was still a chance Emma might want to betray her. The only people Anna could fully trust were her sister and Tristan. She still had to be careful with others even though they seemed nice.“There’s a lot in here, Anna. William has more secrets than we thought.” Emma said as she placed the bag on the bed once they were inside the cozy room.“Show me.” Anna requested eagerly and Emma nodded as she started pulling out the items she had stolen from William’s secret room.“I didn’t even have enough time to go through them because of how many they are.” Emma shook her head and handed Anna a stack of files she had compiled.“I have gone through these though….they are terrible. I cannot believe he is respected in this country. Once this leaks, he will definitely b
“Someone was in here!” William said angrily and stormed into the living room, his face twisted in rage. He didn’t want to cause a scene because there were secrets hidden in that room that no one was to ever find out and if Jacob or Garcia saw him getting so worked up about someone going into his room, they would wonder what was in it that he wanted to hide so badly. So, he called one of the maids and had her call the others to his study.“Get everyone to my study, now!” He yelled at the young maid who immediately scurried off to grab the other staff. The maids scattered at the entrance of his study, unsure of the source of his anger as they sensed trouble on the way.“Which one of you came into my study?!” He barked, his voice echoing through the four walls of the study. The maids exchanged confused glances as they silently questioned each other. Tracy, one of the older maids decided to speak up and save everyone from William’s wrath.“Pardon me, sir, but, none of us came into this fl
“Emma?” An overly familiar voice called out and Emma froze. When she looked up, she found William standing beside his son, Jacob. They both stared at her with suspicion as she never frequented the area unless she was being called.“What are you doing here?” William asked, narrowing his eyes at her Emma’s heart pounded harshly against her chest and her mind raced, searching for a lie to get her out of the situation she was in.“I…I..uh.. the thing is…” She stammered but couldn’t form any coherent sentence.“What are you doing in this hallway, Emma? You know it belongs to Father and I don’t think you were sent by anyone so what the fuck are you doing here?” Jacob yelled, his gaze sharp and full of suspicion.Emma knew that she had to say something fast if she didn’t want them to throw her out right there so, she said the first thing that entered her head.“I was looking for you, Jacob. I searched everywhere but couldn’t find you so I decided to come here since I know you visit here freq
Emma stared at the now-revealed door with her jaw on the ground. Her pulse quickened and her feet trembled but, she was determined to uncover whatever secret was hidden behind the door so, she stepped in. There was a dark hallway, the only source of light being a dim light which was at the end of the hallway. She finally reached the end of the hallway and a door came into view. Emma said a small prayer before reaching for the doorknob and to her surprise, it wasn’t locked. Her heart thundered in her chest as the door creaked open, revealing a small, dimly lit room. It was almost like a private lounge with leather couches, a glass coffee table, and a running air conditioner. The air in the secret room was cold with a faint scent of cigarettes. This meant that the room wasn’t abandoned. If anything, it was still very much in use. But she wasn’t there to gaze at the mysterious room so, she blinked and readied herself. “Alright, Emma.” She whispered to herself in a barely audible voi
THE WADE MANSIONEmma sat on her king-sized bed, her mind filled with various thoughts. With her family’s name on the decline and her father on the verge of imprisonment for money laundering, she had lost all the modeling projects she was handling and had received cancellation emails from other brands that wanted to work with her.Her life was falling apart and there was nothing she could do.The last few days had been hard for her as she could feel the tension in the Wade mansion. She knew that something big was about to happen. She could feel it.Jacob’s attitude had become worse and even his parents were no longer on her side. Not that they were ever on her side. Her only option was Anna, the only person who had offered to help her. She understood that if she wanted to save her family and herself, she had to listen to Anna. There was no time to be suspicious of her.A knock on the door pulled her out of her thoughts. Garcia opened the door and walked in, a false smile on her face.
“I have made the necessary preparation. I will be divorcing Emma next week after the party to make room for you in my life.”Anna stared at Jacob with her eyes wide open and her jaw almost on the ground, the weight of his words hanging in the air.She knew he was a fool who didn't think before acting but this…this was unexpected. She could tell from his expression that he had not sat down to think things through properly. If he had, he wouldn't have been so eager to go through with the divorce. Any sane person would be suspicious of their ex-girlfriend who they treated badly suddenly coming back into their lives and acting like everything was great between them.“Are you being serious right now, Jacob?” Anna asked, her voice steady but the shock in her eyes remained. “On what grounds are you asking for a divorce? I don't think Emma has done anything bad enough to warrant a divorce.” Anna said, pretending to care about his marriage.“We aren't a real couple, Anna. Getting a divorce wou
“You are openly seducing the CEO to keep your job because you are talentless.”A surge of irritation rose within Shayne but, she maintained her composure. The last thing she was going to do was stoop to their level and exchange words with them. So, with a smile on her face, she held her head eye and walked to them.“I don't have to seduce him, my darling. He's the one swooning over me. Too bad no one has noticed you….either of you. You seem like the talentless one to me.” She mocked, leaving them with their jaws on the floor.“Now, If you'd excuse me. This talentless person has a shoot to do. There's no time for me to be lazying around doing nothing. I'll give you some advice; you should change this nasty character of yours. Maybe then you'd stop being an MIT.” Shayne said to both of them, referring to them as a Model-In-Training.Before any of them could give her a response, the door opened to reveal her manager who informed her that her shoot begins in ten minutes. She turned and gr
“Since your morning schedule has been cleared out, you will be spending the rest of the morning with me.”Shayne blinked, completely caught off guard by his bluntness. She had known for a long time that the man was bold but, this was…unexpected.“Let me take you to a restaurant for a light snack. I know you already had breakfast so we won’t be ordering anything heavy. I know models don’t eat much.” He said, gesturing for her to join him. “We’ll only be out for an hour or two. You have nothing to be worried about.”Shayne stared at him with her lips parted. She couldn’t believe his guts. She wondered if this was how all rich men behaved.Shayne opened her mouth to speak, ready to decline his offer and walk out of his office but, she immediately had a second thought. It was just breakfast and it was going to be in an open space. There was no way anything would happen.‘Having a little snack with him wouldn’t hurt.’ She thought. Besides, she had only taken a cup of coffee before leaving
“You’re getting this wrong, Shayne. I didn’t do this. Mr Wade did it himself. He cleared out your schedule.”Her mouth parted slightly, both intrigued and annoyed. “Nathan did this? Why?”“I have no idea, Shayne. But, hey! You have a lot of free time. I think it’s a win.” Luca shrugged and flashed her a wink before he walked out of the dressing room.As soon as he left, Shayne grabbed her purse from the table and marched to the last floor. She wanted to hear from Nathan himself why he cleared her schedule.Shayne got off the elevator and searched for Nathan’s office. She asked one of the workers on the floor who directed her to his office.“Can I help you?” A blonde who seemed to be in her early twenties stopped her before she could enter the office.“And you are?” Shayne asked in an impatient tone, her face twisted in annoyance.“Mr Wade’s secretary. Is there a problem?” The blonde asked with a scowl on her face. Upon hearing that the lady was Nathan’s secretary who was only doing he
