Seeking trouble

Vespera glared at Alaric, her eyes burning with anger. "You jerk!" she spat.

Alaric leaned against the doorframe, a pained smile on his face. "I'm not a jerk. Can you just hear me out?"

Vespera stared at him, her gaze cold and distant. "Fine. Talk."

Alaric looked down at his feet. "There's nothing going on between Elowen and me. I swear."

"Ha!" Vespera scoffed, turning to leave.

Alaric grabbed her arm. "She just twisted her ankle that day. I only took her to the hospital. I didn't tell you because I didn't want you to get the wrong idea. Nothing happened!"

Vespera turned back to face him, a bitter smile on her lips. "Oh sure, you lied to me because she twisted her ankle. What's next? She'll get sick, need more favors. How many more lies are you going to tell me?"

"Ves!" Alaric looked at her desperately. "You know I'm not that kind of guy!"
