Lucas's eyes never left Emily's pale face as he waited for her to stir again. The hospital room was quiet, the only sound was the steady beeping of the machines monitoring Emily's vitals.

As the hours ticked by, Lucas's anxiety grew. He couldn't shake the feeling that time was running out, that Emily's life was slipping away from him.

Just as he was starting to lose hope, Emily's eyelids fluttered open. Lucas's heart leapt with joy as he leaned forward, taking her hand in his.

"Emily?" he whispered, his voice trembling with emotion. "Can you hear me?"

Emily's gaze was unfocused, but she nodded slightly, her lips parting in a faint smile.

Lucas's eyes welled up with tears as he squeezed her hand. "I'm here, Emily," he whispered. "I'm not going anywhere."

As Emily's eyes drifted shut again, Lucas felt a sense of relief wash over him. She was going to be okay. She had to be.

The days after Emily’s release from the ICU passed in a delicate balance of healing and avoidance. Lucas rarely left her side, taking his laptop and work calls in her hospital room while she rested. He ensured her meals were delivered on time, adjusted her pillows when she seemed uncomfortable, and held her hand whenever her gaze seemed distant. But between the shared silences and fleeting smiles, there was a weight neither dared to fully address—the contract, and the looming end of their arrangement. One evening, as the hospital lights dimmed and the quiet hum of machines filled the room, Emily broke the silence. "Lucas," she said softly, her voice tinged with hesitation. He looked up from his laptop, setting it aside immediately. "What is it?" She took a deep breath, her fingers nervously tracing the edge of the blanket. "I’ve been thinking... about what happens after I leave here." Lucas’s jaw tightened imperceptibly, but he kept his expression neutral. "You’ll go home,

Lucas sat by Emily’s bedside, his hand clasping hers, as the steady hum of machines filled the room. The rhythmic beeping of the heart monitor was a cruel reminder of her fragile state. His jaw tightened with every second that passed without her stirring. Despite the chill in the ICU, sweat beaded on his forehead. He had faced corporate sharks and hostile takeovers, but nothing compared to the terror of watching Emily fight for her life. The door creaked open, and Leo stepped inside, his expression grim. He carried a tablet under his arm, and Lucas immediately straightened.“Did you find anything?” Lucas asked, his voice low but intense.Leo nodded, holding out the tablet. “I pulled footage from the security cameras. It confirms what we suspected, the nurse you saw in Emily’s room wasn’t a real hospital employee.”Lucas’s eyes narrowed as he took the tablet. On the screen, the fake nurse entered Emily’s room, her posture calm and confident. After leaving, she slipped into a maintenanc

Leo arrived at the hospital within minutes of Lucas’s urgent call. His sharp eyes scanned the hallway as he approached Lucas, who stood outside the ICU, his hands clenched into fists at his sides. The billionaire’s usual composed demeanor was shattered; his face was pale, and his eyes betrayed a mix of fury and fear.“Boss,” Leo said quietly, his voice steady. “What happened?”Lucas turned, his jaw tight. “Emily was poisoned,” he said, his voice low but deadly. “Someone tampered with her IV drip. I need you to check the hospital’s security footage and find out who’s behind this.”Leo nodded, already pulling out his phone to make the necessary calls. “I’ll handle it,” he assured Lucas. “We’ll get to the bottom of this.”Minutes later, Leo was in the hospital’s security office, seated in front of a series of monitors. The head of security hovered nervously behind him, clearly intimidated by Leo’s intense focus. “This is the footage from the past few hours,” the man said, pointing to the

She had to be careful, had to make sure she didn't arouse any suspicion. She pushed open the door to Emily's room, her eyes quickly scanning the corridors before stepping in. "Hi Emily, how are you feeling?" she asked, deliberately changing her voice.Emily looked up from the book she was reading, a hint of wariness in her eyes. A nurse wearing a mask with no name tag on her uniform seemed pretty suspicious. "I'm fine, thanks," she replied, her voice cautious.Zoe's eyes flicked around the room, taking in the various machines beeping and whirring around Emily. She spotted the IV pole standing next to Emily's bed, the clear plastic bag hanging from it with an almost empty content.“I’m here to change your IV drip,” Zoe explained her voice calm and steady as she walked towards the bed. With a practiced hand, Zoe reached out and adjusted the IV drip, her fing
