Ava scrutinized the personnel manager, noting his arched eyebrow and furrowed brow. He appeared genuinely surprised to hear that one of the company's best employees was resigning.
"Resignation?" he repeated, his disbelief evident. Ava nodded without hesitation, understanding that her decision was hard to fathom. Where would she go? Had she found a better job?
"Is there a problem?" Ava inquired, taken aback by his reaction. He quickly cleared his throat and denied any issue.
"Of course not. It just took me by surprise. You've been one of the best employees in the company," he thought, "though somewhat isolated. But a valuable employee nonetheless. Have you found a new job with better benefits?"
Ava glanced at the casually dressed man before her, pausing for a brief moment. "Yes," she simply replied, realizing that she didn't owe him any further explanation. Besides, she lacked the confidence to reveal her destination.
"Oh," the chief of staff responded. "Let me prepare the documents for you to sign." He stood up and headed towards the door. Ava followed suit, opening the door and saying a few words to her secretary. Glancing at the time, she noticed a message from her friend Alice, who seemed eager to know the outcome of the interview. Ava quickly typed a reply, "I got the job. I'll call you once I'm done with the formalities." She hit send and refocused her attention on the man who had returned to his chair.
"I'll just need a moment while they bring me the paperwork," Ava nodded slowly. The room fell silent. A knock on the door interrupted the silence, and the secretary entered with Ava's information folder and the necessary documentation. Ava felt assured that she was making the right decision. She aspired to a better future, convinced that this change was for the best.
Indeed, it was the best course of action. Ava would no longer worry about rent, utilities, or food expenses. Moreover, she would be able to support her family, and Frank could now attend college. What more could she ask for?
A couple of hours later, Ava locked the door to her small apartment. She had informed the landlady, who happened to live next door, about her new circumstances. The landlady assured her that the deposit would be returned upon her departure. Now, it was time to pack.

"What?" Alice's surprised tone reverberated on the other end of the line. "The owner himself has given you a job!" The squeal of happiness was so loud that Ava had to turn away from the cell phone speaker.
"I don't think they heard you in China," she joked, amused.
"An assistant? Oh my God, that's amazing," Ava sighed. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing. It's just that when I came to town, I started from scratch. This apartment..." Ava paused, then continued. "Well, I'll miss leaving this little place." She cleared her throat, not wanting to dwell on sadness. Instead, she should be happy about the new path she was about to embark on.
"By the way, the driver will arrive at the same stop as yesterday. He'll wait for ten minutes before departing. He's one of the last on the route."
"Thank you."
"Do you have a lot of things?" her friend asked.
"No, just clothes. The rest is worthless."
"Well, get some rest. I'll see you tomorrow and help you get settled."
"Thank you, Alice. Thank you very much..."
"You're welcome, my friend. We'll be together."

In the morning, Ava placed her hand on the front doorknob, taking one last look at the tiny place she had called home for two years. She locked up, handed the keys to her landlady, said goodbye, and grabbed her suitcase. Nerves surfaced as she approached the stop where the hotel driver would pick her up. If everything went as planned in her head, she could send money for Frank's tuition, leave town, and prepare for the future. Although she had no regrets about studying remotely, she wanted a different path for Frank. When she had shared the news with him, he had been excited, as had his parents. Frank was still working as a tour guide, so he would also save more to support himself and not burden his family too much.
After a two-and-a-half-hour drive, Ava caught sight of the grand hotel. It looked elegant and majestic to her, and her nerves grew even stronger. Today, she would sign the contract and start a new life in this place. "How can I not be excited?"
She was the last one to exit the armored staff van. As she reached for her suitcase, handed to her by the chauffeur, she gasped when she heard her name. When she turned around, it was Björn.
"Mr. Hoffmann," Ava said quickly.
"I was waiting for you. Follow me." Ava nodded and pulled her suitcase, trailing behind her new boss. As they crossed the hallway, they encountered Christine Laurent, who had arrived after Björn. She stopped when she saw the dark-haired woman following him.
"What's wrong?" she asked Björn, who stopped abruptly, causing Ava to nearly trip over her suitcase.
Christine raised an eyebrow and looked past him at Ava. "I thought something had happened. That's why I'm asking. I know you own this hotel, but I'm still second in command, so..."
"What do you want to know?" Björn asked abruptly, closing the distance between them. Christine had to step back due to his height, and Björn's intimidating look reminded her of their past together. Björn continued to stare at her, and seeing that she didn't speak, he took a step back. Without looking at Ava, Christine gestured for her to follow, and as they turned right down the hallway, she had to take a sharp intake of breath. The heat that Björn's presence caused her reminded her of his deep-rooted animosity.
When Björn reached the main office where his office was located, he stopped in front of the secretary, who immediately stood up.
"Mr. Hoffmann, your order is ready." It was unusual to see a young brunette in the hotel since, typically, all the women Bruno and Christine hired were blond and very thin.
"Thank you. No interruptions, please. I don't want any calls or messages until this meeting with Ms. Gray is over." Sussan nodded quickly. Björn pushed open the glass door and allowed Ava to enter, tugging her suitcase along. She almost stumbled, but Björn reflexively grabbed her elbow, causing her to curse under her breath. Irritated, Björn immediately released her, snatched the suitcase, and roughly placed it by one of the armchairs. "Come in. The clock is ticking," he said annoyed, making his way to his desk, now made of glass.
Ava sat down in the chair he pointed at, and Björn took the folder that Sussan had left for him. He nodded at her, while Ava discreetly looked around. The silence was interrupted by Björn's husky voice.
"Here is your contract. Take a look at it." Ava accepted it and began to peruse it, causing Björn to slump into the back of his leather chair. Ava raised her eyebrows as she read the salary she would be earning. "What's the matter? Something doesn't add up?" Ava cleared her throat and looked up at him to answer.
"No, no, that's not it," Ava replied. "Is that figure the annual salary?" Björn shook his head slowly, puzzled by her confusion. "Is it monthly?" Björn nodded.
"Why?" Björn asked, confusion evident in his voice.
"It's quite a lot," Ava whispered as she looked at the documents again. Björn was left speechless, listening to her words.
"But the responsibilities of your position justify it. Here are the duties you are expected to perform, as well as the weekly hours you must fulfill. I am very demanding, Miss Gray." Ava looked at the man across the glass table, wondering if he sounded intimidating.
"Do I have to be available around the clock?" Ava asked in surprise. Björn nodded without hesitation.
"Unforeseen events can occur at any time of the day, Miss Gray. It's a hotel and a club. That doesn't mean I will call you at three in the morning, but I expect your total availability. You will live on the premises, so you won't have to rush to catch a cab or endure a two-and-a-half-hour drive from the city to here." Ava glanced at the documentation again, realizing it was a substantial amount of money. Why was she worrying about it? On the contrary, she should be ecstatic that she could pay not just Frank's tuition, but several others as well. She examined the remaining two pages in silence, something that pleased Björn. He watched as a long strand of auburn hair fell beside her ear, and as her fingers absentmindedly played with it. Björn found himself strangely captivated, but he snapped out of his thoughts when he heard Ava clear her throat and look up at him.
"It says here that I have to undergo a one-month probationary period. If I pass, then it's a six-month contract as long as I remain in charge. But if you don't think I can handle the position during the probationary period..." Ava tried not to sound worried about losing her job. "Could I apply for another position within the hotel or the club? Whether it's in housekeeping or another role? And if the six months are up and you're no longer in charge, could the new person hire me?" The thought of Bruno taking over again made Björn tense up.
His plans had changed.
"You're worried about being out of work, aren't you?" Ava placed the paperwork on the desk in front of her.
"I've given up my apartment, knowing I have to live here. I've had a hard time finding a place since I arrived. Rents are sky high. Of course, I'm worried about not living up to your expectations, having to come back and not having a roof over my head," Ava expressed her concerns.
Björn remained silent, attentively listening to every word she uttered. He observed her unwavering gaze, seemingly unfazed by the imposing figure seated across from her. Was she immune to his presence, unlike the rest of the staff, including Christine? Her eyes continued to study him intently.
"What you should focus on is fulfilling your work obligations to the letter, like everyone else, and above all, not breaking the rules," Björn replied, straightening up and leaning against the glass desk, crossing his arms. "By doing so, you won't have to worry about a roof over your head in the future."
Ava raised an eyebrow, feeling somewhat helpless. "I'll comply to the letter, but... who will guarantee me a place to live after my probationary month or after six months?"
"No one should guarantee it, as it's not our responsibility after your probationary period or after six months. However, I guarantee it. If you don't make it through the month, you can apply for another job here. Additionally, you can stay at this place until you find one in the city if you decide to leave. I believe that should be sufficient clarification," Björn explained, growing increasingly irritated. He wasn't accustomed to being questioned, especially about contracts. He knew the ins and outs of the establishment, the duties of each employee, their salaries, working hours, and even their living arrangements within the hotel or its chains. He let out a sigh and stood up.
Ava hesitated for a moment, regretting her question immediately. She knew that after the probationary period, it would be her responsibility. But so what? She stood up, took the pen he handed her, and signed the contract.
"When do I start?" Ava asked, looking at Björn intently.
"Today, Miss Gray," Björn replied, carefully observing her.
Björn remembered that Ava had not yet settled in, so he could not go around taking care of suitcases or leaving them around the place. First, you're going to settle in where you're going to live. Go with my secretary so she can give you the rest of the information. When you're done settling in, I'll call you, so we can get to work." Ava nodded, turned around, and Björn noticed Christine waiting outside the main office. He was about to roll his eyes but stopped when he saw Ava bending down to grab the handle of the suitcase. "Hold on, Miss Gray," Björn said. Ava turned her face to look at him, and Björn rounded the desk to approach her. Christine's gaze through the thick glass of the double doors of that office was one of annoyance. Björn opened the door and looked at Ava. "Mrs. Laurent will take you to see the employee area." Björn looked at Christine, who seemed to get more annoyed. "We need to talk, Mr. Hoffmann," Björn said no. "First, take my new personal assistant to her apart
Ava waited impatiently at the door of the head office where she was supposed to meet her new boss, Hoffmann. "This is his uniform," the secretary announced in a cold tone. Ava stood up and approached the blonde secretary at the desk. "Thank you," she said as she took the uniform and examined the fabric. However, Ava became uncomfortable when she saw the size of the uniform. "Size S? Are you kidding?" "Is there a problem?" Sussan asked, arching an eyebrow. Her face showed hidden amusement, and Ava realized that the secretary and the Frenchwoman had teamed up against her. "Well, yes," Ava paused briefly, showing Sussan the tag. "The size is small, it won't fit." Ava confessed without revealing the annoyance that had brought a smirk to her face. "I'm sorry, but there's none in your size. It's the only one available," Sussan replied. Ava pursed her lips before speaking. "Then I won't wear the uniform," Ava said, making a move to hand back the navy blue suit she held in her hand. Howe
Some time later, the sound of heels echoed on the marble floors of the central area where her boss's office was located. Without pausing her stride, Ava pursed her lips as she felt the pencil skirt hugging her curvy behind. Alice had gone to modify the only uniform they had given her, knowing well that they were trying to make her quit. However, neither they nor the rest of the hotel knew who Ava Elizabeth Gray was. Ava stopped in front of Sussan's desk, who looked up slowly and seemed surprised to see the fitted uniform accentuating Ava's figure. The white blouse appeared slightly strained by the buttons due to her ample... assets. Ava had tied her brown hair into a bun, attempting to look more polished and presentable. "Who would walk around with such disheveled hair?" No one. Everyone was well-groomed, and she would be no exception. Ava noticed two men guarding the glass doors and approached the secretary. "Is Mr. Hoffmann inside?" Sussan raised an eyebrow and pursed her lips. "H
Björn went to his office after listening to the conversation between Christine and his assistant. For the first time, he smiled, but it vanished within seconds as he heard Christine's attempt to intimidate and humiliate his assistant. Determined to take action, Björn knew he had to do something, but there was a task he had to complete first. Once in his office, he picked up his coat and glanced at his watch, about to leave the main office to accompany his assistant, when he noticed her in her uniform. Sussan, his secretary, knocked on the glass door, halting his departure, and Björn signaled for her to come in. "Excuse me, Mr. Björn, Mrs. Laurent left you what you asked for this morning," Sussan said. "Thank you," Björn replied, placing it on his desk. As he turned to leave, the secretary remained in the same spot, causing Björn to raise an eyebrow. "Anything else? I have important business to attend to," he said, visibly annoyed. "I want to clarify that it wasn't my intention to g
After a hectic afternoon measuring every suit, skirt, and shoe from famous brands, Ava entered the house where she would now be living. Alice was sitting in the dining room, enjoying a bowl of cereal, when she spotted a couple of hotel staff carrying bags and purses from luxury brands. Finally, Ava walked in, her tired face evident. "Ava! Wow, what's happening here?" exclaimed Alice, rising from her chair. The men disappeared, leaving the two friends alone at last. Ava slumped into one of the large armchairs in the living room. "These are my uniforms," Alice said, walking over and inspecting one of the bags. Her eyes widened as she discovered a shoebox from GUCCI. "Oh my god," she whispered, pulling out a pair of black high-heeled sneakers. They were exquisite, understated, and could go well with anything. "They are beautiful," she added, winking mischievously at her friend, who didn't seem thrilled or happy about all the purchases. "What's wrong? Don't you like them?" "It's not th
Björn gestured for Ava to enter the room, and she hesitated for a moment, considering it was her boss's private space. However, she entered upon seeing his expression of irritation. She placed the breakfast service cart near the large dining room and straightened up, running her hands through her navy blue coat. Nervousness enveloped her as it was her first official day on the job as his assistant. Björn sat in a chair in the luxurious dining room of the suite, which was the most expensive and exquisite room in the hotel. He finished buttoning his shirt, leaving it half-open. Ava noticed that he was barefoot, and a thought crossed her mind, "Wow, he has nice feet." Ava cleared her throat, trying to push away that random thought. Björn looked at her. "Have a seat," he pointed to the chair next to him. She nodded and walked over. Björn picked up a box and brought it closer, placing it in front of her on the table. Ava frowned. "It's your iPad. We'll be using it extensively. I don't
Paris, France. Bruno took a sip of his drink, closed his eyes, savoring the burn that slid down his throat, and then opened them to look at the landscape in front of him. "Mr. Hoffmann, here is your newspaper," announced the housekeeper from the attic. Bruno turned to the older woman and took it. "Thank you," he replied. The woman shook her head at the sight of the crystal glass in his hand. "You haven't had breakfast, sir," she said. Bruno pursed his lips. "I'm fine," he replied curtly. The woman disappeared, sensing her boss's bad mood. Bruno sat down in the armchair near the window, placed the glass on the coffee table, and began to read the newspaper. However, he wasn't paying attention. The reports he had received from Christine an hour ago had left him restless. "An assistant?" he snorted, shaking his head and clicking his tongue. He tossed the newspaper onto the other armchair next to him. "A bloody assistant!" Christine was not following his instructions, and now a woman
Björn stood under the shower water, hands open against the tile in front of him, head down, and eyes closed, enjoying the cold water cascading over him. In the distance, he heard his cell phone, indicating a new message. Without flinching, he mentally dismissed it, assuming it wasn't urgent. Oscar, his father, and Bruno had the same approach – if there was something truly important, they would call immediately. But gradually, curiosity gnawed at him until he cursed under his breath, turned off the cold water tap, and wrapped a towel around himself. His wet footprints left a trail on the marble floor as he made his way out. Picking up his cell phone from the nightstand where it had been charging, Björn opened the message. It was from Thomas, his new head of security: "Miss Gray and two other female employees are coming to the club. Shall I go and get them?" Björn read the message again, feeling anger rise within him. He immediately dialed Thomas's number and called him. "What do you
Ava typed a goodnight message to her family, and reported that she didn't yet know if she would be able to go into town for the holidays, but she would do her best. Then she lay down after a long warm bath, put on her pajamas, and just as she was about to fall asleep, there was a knock at her door. She opened her eyes and lay still, perhaps imagining she had heard a noise. But no.- Ava, are you asleep? -she heard one of her housemates, got up and went straight to open the door. When she opened it, she looked a little... alert.- What's wrong? -Ava asked.-Your former housemate, Yany, is looking for you. -Ava went to look for her, Yany was in the living room and looked very worried.- What's wrong? -Ava was already getting worried, Yany stood up and looked pale.-It's Alice, I can't find her anywhere. -Ava was surprised.- Have you already called her cell phone? -Yany nodded.-She has never missed her shift, and I think that if
Björn adjusted one of the dumbbells on his wrist, with his thumb he caressed the letter "B", they were the first ones his mother had given him before she disappeared years ago. He thought he had lost them in one of his trips, which had even infuriated and destroyed almost the entire room of that hotel room. He shook his head slowly at the memory of that scene.-Old times, Björn. -He muttered as he left his room. They knocked on the door of their suite, announcing that they could enter. Thomas looked out to inform her that the car was waiting at the front entrance of the hotel. -Let's go. -He reached for his formal suit jacket along with his coat and then they were off. On the short drive to the club, he thought quite a bit about Ava, about how she had gotten yesterday. - Is Ava in her room? -Björn asked when the car stopped in front of the place.-Yes, sir. The area is guarded by the assigned security team.-Well, I don't want any surprises
Ava was lying on the large couch in the living room of Björn's office, Thomas had picked her up and carried her inside.-She blanched. -Björn heard Thomas say. -He was talking on the phone and..." Then she stopped her words, frowned and looked at Björn: "He talked to someone. Even with the receiver to her ear, she was pale, then she started mumbling something, and that's when I approached her.Björn tensed.-It was Bruno who called. He must have said something to her to put her like this," he said silently, trying to decipher the connection to his brother. - Why isn't the doctor here? She hasn't woken up. -Ava began to stir in her place, the two men in front of her turned their gazes to her.-No, no, no, no, -Ava began to gasp in fright, tears began to fall down her pale cheeks. - NO!" the scream was loud, determined and there was no hint of fear in that word, Björn felt his body bristle as he heard her, she opened her eyes and tr
Björn adjusted his tie in front of the mirror, it was a perfect knot, he smiled at the reflection of himself, then, turned around to grab the jacket that was on the bed, moments later he left the suite to head to the office. He had felt uneasy at not hearing from Ava, he thought maybe she was upset about Christine. Then he had his mother's, the next auction, Bruno investigating Ava and Christine with her engagement statement.-Sir, I am informed that Miss Gray has not arrived at the rendezvous point. -Björn turned around before he reached his desk, then frowned.- What? -he looked at the clock and realized it was seven o'clock, Ava was always ten minutes earlier already in the office. Björn took a breath and let it out slowly, he didn't imagine anything wrong, it was just a delay. -I'm going to call... -He said, already feeling uneasy."It's only ten minutes, Björn."-Good morning, Mr. Hoffmann. -Ava announced as she entered the office
Amelia was sitting on the terrace sipping her cup of coffee that she usually had at that time of night, she looked at her branded watch, then averted her gaze to the lights of a car approaching her property, she imagined it would be Björn. There was a knock at the door and she ushered him in.-Mrs. Miller, Mr. Hoffmann has arrived.-I guess he's my son and not his father. -She muttered to herself, unheard by the security man. -When he arrives, send him in and don't let anyone interrupt us unless it's something more important.-Yes, ma'am. -the man left the office, Amelia took a sip from her coffee cup, then a couple of minutes later, Björn came in, she noticed a change in his face, he looked more relaxed, "And how could he not be when his sex life has been activated?" she thought.-Good evening, mother. -Björn saw the woman sitting on the terrace with the doors open and watched him from there.-Good night, Bj. By the way," he shook h
Ava had been lost in her own thoughts without realizing that Björn had arrived at the office, she let out a sigh that made her snap out of it, looked up and saw him.- What did he say to you, Christine?" asked Björn, crossing his arms. He was still furious inside, but he didn't care about the others, but about Ava.-He informed me of the announcement of his...-Ava wrinkled her brow, -commitment.Björn walked over to her and sat back on his heels, took her hand and stroked her knuckles gently.-You know what will happen, ignore Christine.-When she sets her mind to it, she's kind of.....-Toxic. -He completed the sentence for her. -I've known her for years and quite well.- Did you have a thing with her? -Ava was curious.-Yes. But it was a passing thing. She wanted something official and I didn't.-And now that there is something official between the two of them, she shouts it from the rooftops.-Bu
Ava pushed the elevator button to bring it down.-Oh, I had a setback. -Then she looked back at the numbers.- What setback?" asked Christine, Ava turned her face and smiled again.-A personal setback.-I hope it's the first and last time that happens, now that Sussan is not here because of you, I can't be diverting calls to reception. Do you understand?" the sound of the elevator bell rang, the doors opened and the two of them entered.-Yes, it won't happen again. -Ava replied as the doors closed in front of ther. Her gaze was fixed on the elevator numbers.-I hope so," Christine looked at her in profile. -By the way, since you didn't arrive at your work station at your scheduled time, you didn't read the announcement I sent out earlier in the day. -Ava tried to control the anger that was running under her skin, she knew she would rub it in about her engagement to Björn, but what Christine didn't know was that this marriage was not wha
Ava paced back and forth thinking about what Björn's mother would be saying to her. How had desire-driven them? She asked herself that question over and over again. The door to the room opened, and Björn appeared.- Are you ready? -she nodded quickly.- ¿The Mrs. Miller?"Björn noticed her concern.-My mother is fine, don't worry," he paused, casting a fleeting glance at the clock. -I'll change, and we'll go. -Ava nodded. He moved closer until he was facing her, leaned toward her ear, and whispered: "Did you like the panties? She gasped. The warmth of Björn's body pierced her warmly.-Yes, thank you. -she said a little, shaken, then bit her lower lip, "Why did he turn me on with just one question?" she mentally asked herself.-Good," he smiled without her seeing him, straightened up, and left her to get dressed. -Breath, Ava," she whispered to herself as she disappeared into the closet.Fifteen minutes later,
Amelia Miller went into her room and checked that everything was intact as she left it last time, she threw her bag on the bed and walked over to the panoramic window, she had always liked spaces with natural light, the pool was always basic in any place she came to stay and that was her favorite. There was a knock at the door. Without turning around, she gave the order that she could come in, she was expecting her head of security, Albert. But it was Björn.-Mother. -She heard her son's voice behind her back.- Are you decent now? -she asked, and when she didn't hear Björn, she folded her arms and turned to him with a frown on her face. -Wow, you've been quiet. -Strange of him, since he always had something to say in his defense.-I am for the first time, -he paused, as if he couldn't find the exact word to describe it. -Apprehensive. -he confessed.Amelia raised her eyebrows in surprise.-Well," she didn't know what else to
