Zoe sat with the detective on her mother’s service discussing the possibility of putting Aaron Trent behind bars. The young and handsome detective had arrived to the house without a second thought when Margery called and Zoe was grateful for that. She knew her mother had so much influence in the city but not as much as she was beginning to discover.

“Avery Trent is a powerful force in the city.” The detective whose name is Carlos said to them in the large tea room in her mother’s house. “The police force is well acquainted with him and will not want to do anything that will tarnish his image or that of his family’s.”

“Even if his brother is a murderer and an arms dealer?” Margery asked, shaking her head. Zoe had always known the police force to be highly corrupt but not in the manner that they would take the side of a dangerous person.

“Avery has done more good than harm.” Carlos continued. “As a matter of fact, he has done almost no wrong at all. He gives back to the city in ten fold
