Chapter 1.1
"You know I'm not into that okay? I told you that I only go to the masquerade and no one else. You know my reasons."
I sipped my coffee while staring into the city lights in front of me. A thick blanket wrapped around me as I sat in a hammock on the veranda of where I was staying. I'm talking with Catelyn on the other line of the phone, she's keep on offering me a job.
"But Loise, it's a great opportunity to know more possible clients in the future and besides you needed the money right? What you can get here is more than you need. The event is exclusive, and there is no media so I assure you it's safe. "
I sighed and toyed with the rim of the cup I was holding. Yes, I badly needed the money right now but I'm also thinking of the publicity of the said event, maybe the situation I'm in now will only get worse. I don't want to add to the problem now, maybe it's just more complicated.
"Besides, I'm also going to the event and aside from that, it won't be held in the Philippines, so it's impossible for anyone to meet you," she added.
Will I even think about the issue caused by my begoing or the problem I need to solve now before we all drown?
"I'll think about it Cate, thank you," I sincerely said. Cate was the one who introduced me into this kind of job, when I needed one. At first I was hesitant to try this job because of the reputation that our family keeps and now that's all that's left.
"You're always welcome Loise. You always got my back okay? I won't hurt you, I just really want to help you now and I know you need the money too. Just text me right away if you agree. But if ever you don't will, I'll find someone else to go okay? Think about it. "
After bidding our goodbyes, we ended the call. I looked at the twinkling lights all over the city. I hugged myself more when the cold breeze hits me, I tightened my grip on the blanket I was using. I rubbed my hands to feel some heat.
I am here now in Singapore for my job, the job that keeps Daddy and me alive now and no one knows except Catelyn. The nurse I asked to watch over Daddy didn't know that I was in Singapore now, all she knew was that I would be working for a few days around Manila but the truth is I am actually here in Singapore for this job.
I met Catelyn when I was looking for work but because of what happened I couldn't get a job. Catelyn offered me a job, joining businessmen at events abroad. Let's say it's like they date to brag, and nothing else, until they just date me at events.
I was hesitant because our family is also from that world and it is not likely that it will be the focus of an issue in the business world, especially since Daddy used to be a small time businessman, he has somehow become well known. But I was left with no choice when Daddy had a heart attack, we really needed money so I agreed. Will I take my pride if in exchange for that is my Daddy's safety?
Even if we're not on good terms, I still don't want him gone. He's all that I have in this lifetime, I'll do everything to keep him and to be with him longer than I've ever wanted.
I was pulled out from my reverie when my phone rang. I took it and answered, unregistered number was listed but I still answered the call. Maybe it's important or maybe it's a new client.
"Yes hello? This is Tamara speaking," I answered. I stood up and put away the cup, pinned the cellphone between my shoulder and ear and walked into the kitchen.
"Hi this is Ysa Romero, secretary of Mr. Valdez. I would like to inform you that he will fetch you at your hotel room at exactly seven pm tonight," She professionally promised on the other line, I leaned on the sink and bit my lower lip while holding my cellphone. I've been doing this for months but I'm still pretty nervous.
"Ahm, thank you ..."
"Please be prepared ahead of time. Thank you." After that she turned off the call. I throw my cellphone on the top of the counter and frustratingly pulled my waist length hazel brown hair.
"You can do it Eloise, you're your mommy's child so I know you can do it. It's for the family okay?" I keep on chanting those words in my mind while preparing myself for the event.
I use warm water in the shower to relieve the cold I felt before, and it also helps me to relax my body. After taking a warm shower, I wore a silver mermaid long gown that is hugging my figure. It fits perfectly in my body, every curve of my body is clear. Turtle neck it and up to the wrist sleeves of the dress. How hidden the front of the dress is is when the fabric on the back is lacking. The dress is backless but I liked the look more. It's not too heavy to carry so I'm also comfortable wearing it. The secretary of Mr. Valdez brought this long gown to me early this morning.
I carefully looked at myself in the mirror after applying make up no make up look. It was as if I didn't have make-up but my black eyes became more beautiful there. I also put a diamond stud earrings on my ear for a little more decoration and not just clothes. I also wore a mask, covering the upper part of my face. Only my eyes and lips can be seen properly in the mask. My hair was in a messy bun while some fell on the side of my face.
I took a deep breathes, and pick my purse before I stood up and walked towards the door. Earlier, the secretary of Mr. Valdez who is already outside the hotel will pick me up and for some important and personal reason Mr. will not be able to come, but there seems to be a replacement for him. As much as possible he doesn’t want personal attachments to his dates at the event so his secretary updates things.
"Uh ... Good evening." I hesitated to greet the man sitting in the driver's seat because I don't know why Ysa didn't mention anyone who would be with me because Mr. Valdez wouldn't be around.
I haven't met Mr. Valdez in person yet but I already saw his picture, he looks kind and decent so I agreed to be his date at this event today. He also paid for my plane ticket to Singapore and back to the Philippines and he also paid for the hotel where I am temporarily staying now.
I looked at the man who was gripping the steering wheel of the car tightly. I could not see him very well because of the darkness inside the car.
"Get out," he replied emphatically to me without even looking up. I was nervous at the tone of his speech, as if at any moment he would shout at me.
Is the car I rode wrong? But what Mr. secretary told me. Valdez said that a black Mercedes would pick me up and I was right, this is his car—
"I'm not your driver Miss, sit in front."
Even if I don't want to follow what he said, there is nothing I can do. I moved to the front seat of the car. I immediately smelled his masculine scent that did not hurt the nose but increased his sex appeal.
I sighed when I felt uncomfortable with the man next to me, he was wearing a mask but I knew he was handsome. I swallowed when I accidentally saw her red lips. I uncomfortably shifted on my seat when he suddenly glance at me, I instantly threw my stares outside the window.
I tightly gripped the purse I was carrying and was tightly closed my eyes when suddenly my chest rumbled with extreme nervousness. I secretly took a deep breath but instead of calming down it got worse when I smelled his masculine scent. I'm doomed!
Because I was thinking about my partner in the car, I didn't realize that we had arrived at the hotel where the event would be held. When I looked in the driver's seat the man was no longer there, I just saw him walking towards the door next to me. He opened the door and stared blankly at me which made me so uneasy. I was very nice to myself before but now that he is looking at me I feel there is something wrong with my look and it doesn't suit me.
Chapter 1.2 I didn't even look at my dress and bit my lip so hard. Men like him prefer those who have almost nothing to cover their woman. It was as if the clothing factories had run out of fabric so their clothe could hardly be called clothes anymore. "Let's go." I looked up at him when I heard his low and deep voice. I shivered and immediately looked down when he took my hand without holding a purse and sang it on his elegant arm that even if it was covered by his expensive sout now he is undeniably a gym customer. As Catelyn said earlier, no media greeted us at the hotel entrance, only the guards were there to pick up the invitation card given by my male companion. Even though I've done this a few times I still can't help but be nervous, I'm afraid someone will recognize me here. I tightened my grip on the man's arm as we entered the event hall. The ch
Chapter 2.1How did his look make me feel different? It felt like there was a race in my chest because of the force of the explosion I was feeling. He was the only one who made me feel this way and I didn't like it. It feels good but scary. The idea that I could drown in it and if I wasn't lucky I wouldn't be able to get out was frightening.Even if his face is against the light of the bright fireworks in the sky, I could still see him clearly like in the broad daylight. His picture perfect features that will make every woman drool over him. He no longer needs to approach women because the women themselves will approach him, they will definitely throw themselves at him."I don't know if you're staring at me or at that f*cking fireworks."I blinked and stared into
Chapter 2.2I was not on my own just watching him as he stood and when he came out of the room. My brain was still processing what he said."W-what?"He just turned to me and looked at the corner of the room. When I looked back at it, all the things I had brought were already there."W-wait, huh? Why are my things here? And how did you get my things?"He shrugged his shoulders and boredom was written all over his face. He really doesn't have anything to talk about."I have my ways." That's all he said and left the room. After he left, I immediately took a shower and got dressed, maybe he will pay me for this hotel.I was arranging my things when suddenly my cellphone on the bed vibrated. I opened it and what I saw slapped me the cruel reality of the world.Mr. Valdez sent me his payment on my bank account.I took a deep breath and calmed myself. I don't want to cry, I'm done there. I must be used to it, but every time I see the digits of the money being entered into my bank account, I
Chapter 3.1It may be true that when you want to avoid people, destiny will play tricks on you more. Your paths will really meet no matter what happens. Even if you want to avoid it, there is nothing you can do.What is this man's up to? Catelyn said that he's handsome and every woman would even bend their knees just to get his attention. So why me? Besides, the man seems to have a girlfriend. I don't want to ruin the relationship! I've been with different people, but I always make sure that I will never be the reason of the wreckage of their relationship. Never.I said I didn't want to see him but I just found myself packing my things for tomorrow's flight. I haven't even been able to find a job yet but here I am now, leaving again. Why did he think of including me there? He can bring his girlfriend! If it was really him, I knew that his girlfriend would definitely love to go with him. I was planning to get a new job and stop what I'm doing this past few months. If Daddy will wake up
Chapter 3.2I also immediately resented my own feeling because that wasn’t right and I didn’t have the courage to name this feeling. I shouldn't feel this, it's obviously a suicide! I have no plans to crush my whole being. He smiled at me, "I'm just making sure that you'll go with me. It's a waste of my money if I don't?"I was stunned because of what he said. He thinks of me as a paid woman who goes out with any man. It's true Eloise! Why are you hurting now?"Can't talk? You've been with a lot of filthy old rich businessmen right? They paid you for that kind of job, so what's the difference when you'll go with me?"You're handsome and they're not.I wanted to say that but I didn't. There's no way I'll te him that! "I pay triple than the price they paid you."After I heard those words, my cellphone rang and a notification popped up. When I looked at the screen, I saw that it's a notification from the bank I was using for this job. I was depressed when I saw that he actually paid tri
Chapter 4.1I was stunned as I looked at the big house — no, it looks like a freaking palace. The palace in front of me now is too big. Disneyland would be embarrass by its sheer size and beauty."Is this yours?""No.""Then, who owns this?""Mine."I frowned with his answer. I don't know if it's a joke, or he's actually serious. Because if this is how he joke, it's not funny at all. "Mine, mine. It could still be still, hey," I whispered when he started to make his way already.I thought he heard me, when he turned around and frowned at me. I shook my head at him but he just stubbornly turned away.I just followed him as he started to walk up the stairs in front of the front door. The two of us were immediately greeted by, obviously, his maids. We went straight here, after we got back from the airport. I thought we were going to a hotel, but I didn't know that he had a house here. His maids, who I think some are Filipinas, took our belongings and carried them inside. If the exterior
Chapter 4.2Even before I stepped on the stairs I stopped when I heard what she said."Yeah, pretending that she's kind," she paused. "... I won't tell you this if it's not true. Why! I really don't like his women! When he brought a woman here a year ago, that girl was such a bad one! She had a nice face but it isn't like that, she's just nice to Wyatt. But hija— yes! All right, bye. "My heart ached because of what she said. Even though she didn't know me, she had already judged me. I also didn't want to be in this situation. I just don’t really see any other choice. Isn't that really the case? They will judge you based on what they see, not even thinking of finding out the truth. The more they believe in what they think is true, the more their minds are closed to other angles of the story.I sluggishly entered the room where I was staying. The lights were turned off and only the lampshade was on, so I immediately went to bed to lie down. I was just lying on the bed and looking at th
Chapter 5.1"No ..."I shook my head as I looked at her. "Yes ..." She raised her eyebrow."No way. I'm not gonna wear that—" I can't even say if it's a dress yet. The expression on my face went sour the moment I saw the dress. There's almost nothing to cover you if in case I'll wear this. The straps of the dress are thin, it's a tube style on the upper part of the dress. The side of the abdomen is crisscrossed, the abdomen of whoever is going to wear this would be really expose, and then there is a slit on the side. I don't know if it's really a dress because for me, it doesn't look like it. I winced at the dress she's holding. There's no way in hell I'll wear that!I frowned as I looked at myself in the reflection of the mirror inside the dressing room. I said I won't take it! But look, I'm already wearing the dress. The champagne color of the dress made it even more attention grabbing.Savannah is really persistent, you really can’t refuse her."Oh my!" Her lips parted and she im

I got nervous and quickly fixed myself, so I wasn’t able to answer him because I was panicking."Are you okay? Eloise? Hey! Answer me," he said, knocking louder. After making sure I looked presentable, I opened the door and immediately saw his worried face."W-why?" I asked, pretending to be confused even though I was extremely nervous now."I'm so worried that you left earlier. Are you okay?" His voice still carried concern.I nodded. "Uh, yeah. I'm okay. I really just needed to pee earlier, that's why I left.""Okay... Do you want to eat somewhere?" he asked, catching me off guard."Huh? But there’s food inside," I replied. I immediately moved away from Wyatt when a few girls passed by and entered the restroom. I heard them whispering and I knew exactly who they were talking about.I looked at Wyatt and caught

He kissed my stomach before lying beside me. He wrapped his arms around my waist, pulled the comforter up to my chest, and drew me closer to him.He dropped small kisses from my shoulder blades up to my neck. He buried his face in the crook of my neck. I ran my fingers through his hair and closed my eyes.Am I too soft for giving in just because of a simple kiss and touch?I woke up to find Wyatt no longer beside me. I looked at my body and saw I was already wearing a large white t-shirt, most likely his. I glanced at the table and saw a note stuck to the lampshade. I took it and read:“I prepared you a lovely dress for tonight. See you later. ♥ —Wyatt”I smiled at the note he

READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.————Chapter 27.1I was surprised when a staff brought me to a large villa, while my companions went straight to the hotel. Since I didn’t have my suitcase with me, I only had my sling bag when I was brought to the villa the staff mentioned. The location of the villa was beautiful, as it faced the seashore, and you could definitely see both the sunset and sunrise from there. I thanked the male staff who brought me to the front of the cabin. After he left, I took the card the staff gave me earlier in the hotel lobby and opened the door.I was immediately greeted by a spacious living room. There were white sofas, and in the center was a wooden coffee table. There were paintings on the walls of the villa, adding to its beauty. As I looked around, I saw a brown door on the side. I walked over and opened it. A room greeted me—with a white bed that had posts on each corner.
Chapter 26.2"Christian? What are you doing here?" I looked behind him. He was the one I saw with Wyatt—the bodyguard in Singapore, where we first met."Fetching you, ma'am," he answered firmly. He stood composed in front of me. When I looked behind him again, that's when I noticed a black car parked in front of my apartment."Huh?" I asked in confusion and looked back at him. "Why?"Instead of answering my question, he said something else—something I didn't expect."Just give me your baggage, ma'am, and I'll send you to the airport safely."I didn’t ask Christian any more questions. It was probably Wyatt who ordered him to pick me up. He must’ve found out I was leaving today and sent Christian to get me.Christian carried my suitcase and placed it in the back of the car. I chose to sit in the front seat because I felt I might get dizzy in the back."How did he know?" I asked Christian once he was seated in the driver's seat. He turned to me and gave a small smile."He surely knows ev
Chapter 26.1"The fetus is healthy, so it's okay to travel via airplane. Just don't forget to take your vitamins, drink milk, and eat healthy foods," said the doctor.I nodded at her. "Okay, ma'am."She wrote something on a piece of paper stating that I was cleared to travel. No one at the office knows that I'm pregnant, and I don’t plan to tell them just yet. I went to the doctor to make sure the baby is safe and to confirm that it’s okay for a pregnant woman to travel. The most important person who should know about this is Wyatt. More than anyone, he has the right to be one of the first to hear this news. I also don’t want him to find out from someone else, but I’m just not ready to tell him right now. Maybe after I return from this event, I’ll tell him. I want to have time to think and relax first. After leaving the doctor's office, Catelyn and I immediately went back to the apartment so I could rest and start packing. I should’ve packed yesterday, but I slept all day, so now I ha
Chapter 25.2When we reached outside Dad's room, Catelyn stopped and looked at her wristwatch."It's almost lunch, what do you want to eat?""Anything nutritious, Cate," I replied as I turned the doorknob to open the door. She nodded and excused herself to leave. As soon as Catelyn left, I opened the door fully and was instantly stunned by what I saw.A familiar build of a man was sitting at the side of my Daddy’s hospital bed. I don’t think he noticed me because he kept talking to him."I didn’t expect that, really. I was planning it, but I didn’t expect it to come at a time like this," he said, taking a deep breath. There was a sting in my chest, but I ignored it and listened to whatever Wyatt had to say to Daddy. "I'll do everything I can to settle this, sir. I rea—" he stopped talking and turned toward me. I swallowed hard when our eyes met."What are you doing here?" I wanted to applaud myself for not stuttering even though my heart was pounding wildly. I tightened my grip on the
Chapter 25.1 I sat there blankly, waiting for my name to be called. Cate was beside me; the two of us were sitting in the waiting area outside an OB-GYN's office at the hospital where Daddy was also confined. Many nurses and patients passed in front of us, and the longer we waited, the more nervous I became.I looked to the side and saw many pregnant women waiting as well. Some had big bellies already, others weren’t visibly pregnant yet. Some were with their husbands, and a wave of envy washed over me seeing how happy they were with their partners.Would he be that happy too when he finds out we’re having a baby? Would he jump for joy? Cry? Would he come with me for check-ups? Shop for baby stuff with me? Will he be that affectionate towards me too? Will he be a caring soon-to-be father like these dads here? What kind of father will he be? Will he be like Daddy? Strict, too?I turned to Catelyn when she held my hand. She looked into my eyes and smiled.“It’s okay. I’m here,” she sai
Chapter 24.2Am I really pregnant?Even though I was scared of the possibilities, I immediately called Catelyn to ask for help. “Cate…” “I’m coming over now.” I blinked rapidly as I stared at the two pregnancy tests placed on top of the sink. My hands trembled as I reached for the box and read the instructions, even though Catelyn had already explained it to me earlier. One red line. Negative. Two red lines. Positive. After we talked earlier, she volunteered to buy the tests and left me alone at the apartment. I was just staring blankly the whole time, lost in thought about all the possible outcomes if—if I'm really pregnant, just like what Catelyn suspected. “Loise?” I turned toward the bathroom door when Catelyn knocked from outside. After giving me the pregnancy tests earlier, I had told her to wait outside. “Uh…” I cleared my throat before answering, “W-what is it?” “You know what you’re supposed to do, right?” she asked nervously, clearly trying to stay strong f
Chapter 24.1"Okay, don’t breathe for a second, alright?" I nodded at her. I followed what she said and held my breath as she zipped up the back of the dress I was trying on."Are you done yet?" I asked, still holding my breath. We’d been at this for a while now, still trying to zip up the floral dress she picked for me to try on.I had no work today, so I asked Cate to help me choose an outfit. Thankfully, she wasn’t busy and came over. I invited her beforehand and she said she’d try to come if she had time. She mentioned she wanted to go to Palawan too."Wait a sec!" I felt her grip tighten on my shoulder as she still struggled with the zipper."Maybe I should just wear something else?" I turned to look at her and saw her face drenched in sweat. She took a deep breath and finally gave up on the zipper."You’re right! This dress is stressing me out!"She flopped down on my bed, catching her breath like she’d just run a marathon.I left her on the bed and went to the bathroom to chan
