Natalia's POV

"Hello, Natalia," an alluring deep baritone voice called, smooth and silky. I quickly stood up at the sight of the young man dressed in a crisp white coat and glasses. His gaze, sharp and cold, lingered on me just long enough to make it clear how much he despised my presence.

I forced out a smile. "Hello, Manuel. It's been a while. How have you been?"

Manuel snickered. "I don't think that's any of your business, but to answer your question, I've been doing great ever since I cut you out of my life."

"That's rude," I scoffed. "It's not going to take a pound of flesh if you could just respond politely for the sake of old times."

"I can't recall those old times you talk about" Manuel retorted. "What are you doing here?"

I took a deep breath, deliberating on my choice of words.

"I'm speaking to you right now as a patient," I declared after some thought.

Manuel eyed me suspiciously. "Come with me to the office."
