Joyce's POV

God knew how desperate I was, trying to avoid dropping my cold facade before Adrian. His presence alone was unbearable for me. I badly wanted to dive into his embrace, but I couldn't dare to lower my pride before him.

Truthfully, my heart leaped for Joy when he demanded that I follow him to the Imperial Hall. Even the idea of having lunch with him made me feel deeply satisfied, but the conversation that followed utterly ruined my mood.

I badly wanted to ask him what took him so long to ask about his son. Instead, I unconsciously gave him the go-ahead to come see him. It would be unfair of me to keep Rafael away from his father.

Our conversation ended the moment our lunch arrived. I noticed him fidgeting with his cutleries. It seemed he had something to say.

"Joyce," he finally called, making me pause midair with the fork in my hand, and I lifted my head to look at him.

"Yes?" I replied.

"The anniversary celebration is in less than a week," Adrian began. I need a female par

Joyce's POVAfter many preparations, the long-awaited day of Santoria Industries' tenth-anniversary celebration was here. I was so excited that I got out of bed early, even though the party was commencing in the evening.I had already informed Christie beforehand so she would spend the night at my house. My phone suddenly buzzed. I picked it up from the bedside table and opened it; it was a text message from Adrian.Adrian: Good morning, mi amor. The makeup artist, hair stylist, and fashion designer will be coming to help you get ready.I jumped up in excitement as I texted back.Me: Alright. Thank you.Adrian: ???Me: What?Adrian: Is that all?I found his question quite strange and typed back.Me: Yes.I tossed the phone on the bed and ran into the bathroom, almost slipping, thanks to the door I held on to for support.I was done freshening up in less than thirty minutes. I wore loose-fit trousers and a crop top. I packed my hair in a ponytail and walked out of the room.To my utterm

Adrian's POV"I wonder if she's ready," I muttered to no one in particular, my eyes fixed on my phone, hoping it'll light up with a message from Joyce.I was so upset when she gave me a formal response that morning. She hadn't even opened the text I recently sent her, which worried me.A knock on the door interrupted my thoughts. I answered, and the door creaked open."Master, Mr. Daniel has arrived," Sebastian announced, his head bowed slightly.I could see his image reflecting in the mirror before me, so I didn't bother turning to face him."Tell him to wait in the living room. I'll join him soon," I ordered, adding after a second thought. "Tell the maid to get me a glass of red wine."When Sebastian left, I adjusted my collar, admiring myself in the mirror. "Mirror mirror on the wall...ooouh you already know. I'm turning heads today as always," I muttered to myself. I wasn't one of the most eligible bachelors for nothing. I looked dashing. I smirked, satisfied with my appearance, a

Joyce's POV"What a goddess!" William gasped in shock, his widened eyes fixed on me as I stood before the mirror while the apprentice adjusted the waistline. "La vista me ha dejado sin palabras."I had to admit it had been a while since I had admired myself for this long. The blue evening gown hugged and accentuated my hourglass physique. The dress had a slit from my right mid-thigh all the way down. The dress was paired with a blue diamond necklace and silver heels with diamond stones. The fact that Adrian had purchased these expensive items for me melted my heart."Thank you," I muttered the moment the apprentice was done. "You're welcome, ma'am," the lady replied, smiling shyly. "You look beyond gorgeous."I blushed. "Thank you."The hooting of a car outside made William rush to the window to see who it was."He's here," he announced, his voice laced with excitement. "Your knight in shining armor has come to rescue you," he giggled animatedly."Hahaha," I burst into uncontrollable

Joyce's POV"Are you alright?" Adrian asked, making me look at him.He didn't seem affected since he was used to it."I'm fine," I replied, swallowing hard."That's good...you're doing good mami, because we still need to welcome the guests," Adrian said, his eyes darting around.I glanced around and felt different scrutinizing gazes on me. Many guests had already arrived, probably waiting for us.A few of them were already approaching us."Oh my goodness!" I exclaimed silently, gripping Adrian's arm tightly."Calm down. They're harmless people. It's customary to exchange pleasantries with them," Adrian said softly, placing his arm around my waist and pulling me close."Congratulations, Mr. Ortega. Your Industry has contributed greatly to our country. We can't help but expect more from you," a potbellied man said with a sincere smile."You're absolutely right. Santoria Industries is not to be trifled with," a silver-haired woman chipped in, her eyes fixed on me. "And who is she? It's t

Natalia's POV"Aren't you done yet?" I snapped, glaring hard through the mirror at the lady before me."Almost. Just need to add the final touches," she replied politely. She was the makeup artist I hired to get me ready for the party. She was also a hair stylist, and since Gabriel didn't want a crowd, as he had called it, in his house, I had paid her to do everything for me, including helping me get dressed."Be quick. I don't want my husband coming in here without me being ready," I urged impatiently. We were already late for the party, so I had to hurry. When she finished my hair and makeup, she helped bring out the velvet red evening gown I had kept in my closet. It exposed some of my cleavage and shoulders, and my right leg was also out in the open. Soon enough, I was ready for the party. The makeup artist exited my room after me. Gabriel was already waiting in the living room, looking good in his black tuxedo. He didn't seem impressed when he saw me, leaving me upset."I can see

Gabriel's POVDespite all the years I had lived on earth, I still couldn't fathom why women took so long to dress up for an occasion. It was tiring. When Natalia came downstairs, I didn't bother complimenting her dressing, and I knew she wasn't happy about it. I didn't care about such trivial things since I had more important aspects of my life to worry about. We left the mansion accompanied by bodyguards. Though I hadn't expected anything less from the reporters when we arrived at the party, I was still enraged by their tirade of heart-piercing questions.Almost immediately, I felt a wave of relief on entering the hall, but it was short-lived. I could feel the weight of some of the guests' scrutinizing gazes upon us, their eyes looking and analyzing silently every aspect in excruciating detail. Ignoring their two-faced nature, I reciprocated their pretentious warm welcome heartily, that is, for the ones who dared to approach me. The rest of the cowards stood far away from me, whispe

Adrian's POVMy eyes were fixed on Gabriel right from the moment I began my speech. The way he kept staring at Joyce gave me a feeling he had something planned. It was so annoying that I wished I could get off the stage and confront him, but doing so would only be seen as a sign of disrespect to the guests.I was done with the speech in less than ten minutes. I was so eager to go back to Joyce. Unfortunately, some guests approached me with sweet and flattering words, determined to claim my attention.Despite my discomfort, I had to accommodate them, still watching for Joyce and Gabriel. "Nice speech you have there," a baritone voice drew my attention."Antonio Reyes," I called his name, masking my displeasure with a smile.Antonio's smile broadened. "You remember my name. That shatters the image of you I have in my heart.""What image?" I questioned curiously."Oh, you haven't heard? You should pay attention to rumors about you. Gabriel's POV "The operation was successful," Miguel announced with a sigh of relief, and my heart leaped for joy. "Does that mean they're on their way?" I questioned, my heart beating erratically with a strange mix of joy and dread. Miguel nodded affirmatively. "Yes, they are. The culprits are on their way to the station too. Why do you seem so... uneasy?" "It's nothing," I lied, my voice barely above a whisper. "I guess I'm just so happy that we came out on top." That was a big lie. The truth was I wasn't ready to see them. Not Joyce. Not Adrian. Not even Rafael. The thought of facing them, of seeing Joyce’s eyes—eyes that once held so much love but now only reflected betrayal—made my stomach churn. I wanted to be as far away as possible. Meeting me might ruin her newfound happiness and I didn't want that to happen. I wanted her to be happy while erasing every memory of me in her head. I had caused her so much pain. I had been a shadow cast over her past; I refused to b

We should head there too.""Wait a minute," Torres raised a finger to stop me. "I think someone is coming heading our way."As if on cue, a shadow emerged from the dimly lit alleyway. Madrileño stepped into view, his dark clothing blending with the night, his tanned skin faintly illuminated by the passing streetlights. His expression was unreadable, but his purposeful stride spoke volumes."Why are you here?" I questioned with much curiosity in my voice and a frown on my face. "I thought we agreed on you leading the men.""I am leading them," Madrileno replied confidently. "I just came to let you know of something so that you can be prepared.""What's that?" I asked, refusing to beat around the bush. "Spill it out, so yo

"Time to end this."With that, We all rushed back and jumped into the van, peeling off into the night.I picked up the radio and connected to Miguel."Keep us posted. We're heading to the airport now," I stated."If we don't catch up with him now, we won't be able to find Joyce and Rafael," Torres sighed, revealing the bitter truth, his voice laced with discomfort and urgency as he looked out the window. "It might take years to find them if we lose this opportunity.""Positive thoughts and words only, Torres," I scolded, calling him by his name for the first time. I was annoyed with Daniel's close escape. I still hadn't come to terms with the fact that he had betrayed me after so many years of service to Santoria Industries. The fact that he knew everything about Rafael and Joyce meant he had been working with the enemy for years. Who knows? H

Lionel's POV"Ugh... You don't have to be so timid with me. I know what women like you are capable of," I scoffed, hoping for a reaction.Nothing. Absolutely nothing. She jus sat here like a statue. I cast her a side glance. She was sitting next to me with a stiff posture and a face void of any emotions. After my men caught her trying to escape, it was as if an icy shell had formed around her. She hardly spoke and rarely reacted to anything I said or was happening around her. Her questioning had ceased, and I couldn't predict her next move.It was disturbing. I exhaled through my nose, unsatisfied. Was she planning something? Had she truly accepted her fate? The fire in her eyes had become dull and unreadable. Her facial expression was indifferent like she had accepted her fate. I hated it. I wanted her to rebel against me. It was much more pleasurable that way. Her facial expression was indifferent like she had accepted her fate.Save for the small hum of the engine and the regu

Adrian's POV"You both made mistakes. You're both in the wrong," I rebuked. "You should work on yourselves instead of taking your anger out on each other. Don’t know how you plan to fix this mess, but remember—we’re all in this together. Whether you like it or not, we have a common goal."The room fell to a heavy silence. Gabe let his breath out in a slow hiss as he leaned against the warm sheets of the bed. Madrileño ran a hand over his face, still breathing sharp and unevenly. Part of me did think their little fight was somewhat amusing, but I needed to be the voice of reason here. I had to be the mature one."I'm sorry," Gabriel mumbled. Everyone turned to him in shock. Gabriel was not one to apologize. "I'm sorry I killed your child. I shouldn't blame you for my mistakes. I should have never gotten married to that bitch, and I'm going to keep on regretting it for the rest of my life."Madrileño’s jaw tightened, hands flexed at his sides. His lips parted as if he wanted to argue

  • The Billionaire's Betrayal: A love Child   Chapter 235

Adrian's POVHaving this innate ability to sense danger, or detect a person's aura, is part of being a shrewd businessman, which not everybody could understand save the people concerned. It was an instinct sired from long years of high-stakes negotiations and betrayals, something that most people just wouldn't understand unless they lived in this world.Gabriel had it. So did I.And right now, every alarm inside me was going off as I watched him stare Madrileño down, his body rigid with restrained fury. The cell's air was thick with unsaid words and stress. Gabriel could already tell something was off with Madrileno. I could sense their mutual hostility suffocating the air between us.Madrileño was standing stiff, his jaw clenched tightly and Gabriel was seated on the edge of his bed with fingers tightly clenched into fists. Well, whatever their issues were could be sorted out after everything had been settled."So what exactly is it you found?" I asked, my expectant gaze fixed on Iva

Natalia's POV"What the hell is going on in this basement?" I grumbled, walking along the dingy hallway. Since I left Gabriel's mansion, I have gone into hiding, hoping the police wouldn't track me down. Anyway, I was hiding in the basement, but I kept having this feeling that something was going to go wrong.I hadn't seen Christina for days, not even Lionel. I made my way to the room Joyce was always held. My fingers hesitated on the rusted handle, a chill running down my spine. With a sharp push, the door creaked open, the sound cutting through the oppressive silence like a scream. Surprisingly, the chair was empty. Joyce wasn't where she used to be. The ropes used to tie her were dangling on the arms of the chair.“What the...?” I whispered, stepping into the room. My eyes darted around, searching for any sign of her but it was empty. I was stunned. I turned to leave and ended up bumping into someone."Ouch!" We groaned at the same time.I massaged my shoulders and raised my head

"Seeing his face reminds me of all the problems we faced in our company.""Those weren't his fault. We weren't competent enough" I explained. "We slacked off, remember?" The guilt gnawed at me, an ever-present reminder that I was part of the problem.Ivan sighed deeply. "Yes, sir. You're right," his gaze drifting towards the floor. "Good. Now, let's focus on finding the password to unlocking this file," I stated, my eyes on the computer. This was the first time I had actually laid a hand on it. She was always so very overprotective where her stuff was concerned, yet one more reason I wouldn't be trusting her anymore. I didn't."Check the hint," Ivan said, interrupting my thoughts.I raised an eyebrow in confusion. Joyce's POVThe ride was silent. The fact that he was so clingy, even after I made it obvious that I didn't want him close to me, was so annoying that I wanted to puke. I wanted to be out of that space as soon as possible."When are we getting there?" I questioned with exasperation."When we get there," he replied with a playful smirk, obviously pleased by my discomfort. "Do I irritate you that much? You should get used to my presence because you'll be seeing me for a long time."Thinking about it made my gut churn. I could feel the heat rising to my cheeks, an embarrassing flush of anger and helplessness. I frowned. "What happened to handing me over to Natalia after everything is over?"Lionel leaned back, a calculated look in his eyes. "I'm quite unpredictable when it comes to deals. She broke one of the rules I love dearly," Lionel replied, his tone laced with mockery like that of an evil villain. "Right now, I see no reason why I should keep my own part of the deal."This man was t
