"Yes," she whispered.
James's face lit up, as he slid the ring onto her finger, and they shared a tender kiss.
Mr. Reed beamed with joy as he walked up to James, Isabella by his side, the diamond ring gleaming on her finger.
"Congratulations, James!" Mr. Reed exclaimed.
James smiled. "Thanks, Father. I'm happy."
Mr. Reed's eyes misted. "I'm so proud of you, son. You've made an excellent choice."
Isabella smiled politely, but her eyes seemed uncertain.
Mr. Reed turned to her. "Welcome to the family, Isabella. You've made James incredibly happy."
Isabella's smile faltered for a moment before she recovered. "Thank you, Mr. Reed."
Mr. Reed's expression turned serious. "Isabella, can you excuse us, please? I've got something important to discuss with him."
"Okay sir." as she walked away.
"Son, I'm glad to see you're happy," Mr. Reed said, his eyes warm.
James smiled. "Thanks, Father. I am."
Mr. Reed's expression turned serious. "Is everything okay between you and Isabella? You two seem...distracted."
James's smile faltered for a moment before he recovered. "Everything's fine, Father. Just tired, that's all."
Mr. Reed nodded. "Good. Don't worry, the party is almost over, then you both can have the night to yourselves. I hope your love is real, James. Not some facade."
James's eyes dropped. "Of course, Father. It's real."
Mr. Reed patted James's back. "Good. I hope you know you both are spending the night here with me?"
"Here? Come on, Dad, we've got our place and we can still drive home," he replied, confused.
"I insist, James," he said walking away.
As James and Isabella prepared for bed, tension filled the air. They hadn't shared a bed before, but tonight, they won't only share a bed but also fake a romance.
James and Isabella retired to their room, exhausted from the party.
"Well, that was a long night," James said, loosening his tie.
"Really a long night, I am so exhausted right now," she said while trying to catch her breath.
James turned to her. "Thanks for tonight. You played your role perfectly."
Isabella raised an eyebrow. "You mean pretending to be in love?"
James nodded. "Yeah. My Dad ate it up, though he was a little bit skeptical about the whole thing."
Isabella sighed. "I feel guilty lying to him. Wait, was that the conversation you both had when he asked me to excuse you both?"
James's expression softened. "Yeah, I feel guilty also. But it's necessary."
Isabella looked away. "I guess we make a good fake couple."
"We do." smiled coldly
Their eyes met, and for a moment, they just looked at each other.
"Hey," James said, his voice low. "We should practice our fake romance."
Isabella's eyes narrowed. "What do you mean?"
James stepped closer. "We need to convince my Dad our love is real. We can't just pretend."
Isabella's heart skipped a beat. "And how do you suggest we do that?"
James's eyes locked onto hers. "We need to kiss and then you fake a moan."
Isabella's cheeks flushed. "James..."
But James's lips were already on hers. Isabella's arms wrapped around James's neck, He deepened the kiss. For a moment, they forgot about the charade.
Isabella's eyes flew open as James's lips brushed against her ear.
"Moan," he whispered.
Isabella's cheeks flushed, but she complied. A soft moan escaped her lips; they couldn't resist each other, as they both took off their dresses. James kissed her neck down to her thighs, making a real moan as he made passionate love to her.
James woke up to the sound of his phone ringing. He groggily reached for it, answering.
"Hey, Steve," James said, his voice husky from sleep.
"James, wake up!" Steve's voice was urgent.
James sat up, rubbing his eyes. "What's going on?"
"The investors are coming in soon," Steve said. "We need to rush the marriage."
James's heart sank. "How soon?"
"Next month," Steve replied. "We need to make it happen before they arrive."
James cursed under his breath. "Okay, I'll take care of it."
"You better," Steve said. "This is our only chance to save the company."
James ended the call, his mind racing.
Isabella stirred beside him, her eyes fluttering open.
"Who was that?" she asked, her voice sleepy.
"Steve, saying the investors are coming next month," he replied.
Isabella's eyes widened. "That's soon."
James nodded. "We need to get married before they arrive. Come on, we need to leave now, I have a lot on my plate."
As James and Isabella came downstairs, Mr. Reed looked up from his newspaper, surprised.
"Up early, I see," Mr. Reed said, a hint of amusement in his voice.
James smiled. "We wanted to get a head start on the day."
Mr. Reed chuckled. "I think I know why you're rushing off."
Isabella's cheeks flushed.
Mr. Reed winked. "I heard the sounds of a budding romance last night."
James's face turned beet red.
Isabella quickly intervened. "Mr. Reed, it was just...uh...the TV."
Mr. Reed laughed. "Save it, kids. I'm happy to see you two getting along."
James cleared his throat. "We should get going, Father."
Mr. Reed nodded. "Of course, of course. I'll walk you out."
As they walked to the door, Mr. Reed bade them farewell
As they drove away from Mr. Reed's estate, the tension in the car was palpable. James and Isabella sat in silence for a few minutes, lost in their thoughts.
"So, what's on your mind?" James asked, breaking the silence.
Isabella turned to him, her expression thoughtful. "I was just thinking about our conversation with your father. He seems happy about our engagement."
James nodded. "Yeah, he's thrilled. He's always wanted me to settle down."
Isabella's eyes narrowed. "And what about you? Are you thrilled?"
James's gaze met hers. "I'm doing what needs to be done, Isabella. For the company and most especially for my Dad."
Isabella's voice dropped to a whisper. "And what about us? What happens after we get married?"
James's jaw clenched. "We'll figure it out, okay? One step at a time."
Isabella sighed. "I hope so, James. Because right now, I feel like we're drowning in lies."
James's eyes flashed with frustration. "You wanted this, Isabella. You agreed to it, so what's with the interrogation?"
Isabella's eyes sparkled with tears. "I know, James. But that was before...before everything. Before I started feeling things for you."
James's heart skipped a beat. "Feelings?"
Isabella's voice was barely audible. "Yes, James. I think I might be falling for you."
The car fell silent again, the only sound the hum of the engine.
"Isabella..." he started.
But she cut him off.
"Don't say anything, James. Just drive."
James's eyes locked onto the road ahead, his heart racing as he drove off.
James adjusted his tie, preparing for a crucial meeting with his business partners and Employees. "I won't be staying long at work today, just brief meetings with my employees concerning the investors coming in to sign the contract. Try to rest."Isabella faked a smile, waving goodbye. "Be careful, James."James stepped into the conference room, greeting his colleagues. Steve, his business partner, nodded in acknowledgment."Gentlemen, let's get started," James began. "I got a call this morning that the investors are arriving soon. We need to finalize our pitch; we don't have much time on our hands."Steve leaned forward. "James, we've discussed this already. Your marital status is a concern."James's expression turned stern. "My personal life is none of their business.""James, it is. They want stability, and a married man represents that," Rachel added.James sighed. "I'm working on it."Steve pressed on. "The Reed family name carries weight. We can't afford scandals or instability
"Isabella! What the hell is going on here?" James's eyes widened in shock as he pushed open the door to Isabella's room. Alex, still leaning over Isabella, turned to face James. A sly smile spread across his face. "Just catching up with old friends, James.""Who the hell are you and what are you doing in my house?" he asked furiously.Isabella scrambled to cover herself, grabbing her robe. "James, it's not what it looks like."James looking shocked, asked, "It's not what it looks like? So tell me, what does it look like then? I don't know who you are, Mister, please leave my house."Alex slowly stood up, his eyes never leaving James. "You're the one who's intruding, you don't even know who I am, or you think you can protect her from me?" he sneered.James's eyes narrowed. "I don't care to know who you are, you're not welcome here, so leave!"Alex's smile grew wider. "You're just a wealthy playboy. You don't know what Isabella needs."Isabella stood up, her voice shaking. "Alex, stop.
James forced a smile. "Yes, everything is fine."Isabella's eyes searched his. "You're sure?"James nodded. "Positive. Let's not worry about it."James pulled back, his eyes still locked on Isabella's. "I'm glad you told me everything," he said, his voice filled with understanding.Isabella smiled weakly. "Me too."James took a deep breath, changing the subject. "Anyways, that aside; my meeting went well today. The board is impressed with our progress and I think we are ready to sign the contract."Isabella's interest was piqued. "Wow! That's great news." "Yes, it is. But we need to fasten our marriage plans. The investors will be coming soon, and we need to present a united front."Isabella's eyes widened. "Soon? How soon?"James's expression turned serious. "Next week. They'll be reviewing our finances, assessing our stability...and our marriage will be under scrutiny."Isabella's heart sank. "What do we need to do?"James's eyes locked onto hers. "We need to act like a loving coup
Mr. Reed's eyes remained fixed on the cryptic message, his mind racing with questions. Who could be behind this? And what did they hope to achieve by revealing such information? Just as he began to ponder the possibilities, his phone rang."Hello?" Mr. Reed answered, his voice cautious."Mr. Reed," a distorted voice spoke on the other end, "I see you received my message.""Who is this?" Mr. Reed demanded, his grip on the phone tightening."A concerned citizen," the voice replied, its tone dripping with sarcasm. "Someone who knows the truth about your son's little charade.""What charade are you talking about and what do you want?" Mr. Reed's impatience grew."I want the truth to come to light, so I can have what rightfully belongs to me" the voice responded. "Your son's fake relationship with Isabella is an insult to those who genuinely care about him, most especially to you, his father, I'm sure you know nothing about them.""Rightfully belongs to you? What could that be and what mak
Isabella stood frozen, her phone still clutched in her hand as tears filled her eyes. She couldn't believe Alex had called her, asking to meet up after all these months and the stunt he pulled up the other day at James's place. What did he want? And why now?Minutes ticked by, but Isabella didn't move. She was lost in thought, her mind racing with the implications of Alex's call. She didn't even notice James's presence until he spoke up."Hey, are you alright?" James asked, his voice detached.Isabella quickly wiped away her tears, forcing a smile onto her face."Yeah, I'm fine," she lied, trying to sound convincing.James raised an eyebrow, his expression skeptical. But he didn't push the issue further."I'll be out with Steve," James said, his voice firm. "I'll be back later."Isabella nodded, still trying to process her emotions. She didn't even notice James leaving, her mind still reeling from Alex's call.As the door closed behind James, Isabella let out a sigh. She felt trapped,
The morning sunlight streamed through the windows as James got ready for work. He moved quietly, his eyes fixed on the floor as he avoided eye contact with Isabella. He's beginning to suspect Isabella's move and doesn't know how to confront her about it.Isabella, sensing the tension, tried to break the silence."James, are you heading to work already?" she asked, her voice tentative.James stopped in his tracks, his back still turned to her."Is that a trick question?" he snapped, his voice rude. "Or are you blind and can't see me getting ready for work?"Isabella's eyes widened in shock as she took a step back, her hands fluttering to her chest."I-I just wanted to know since you aren't saying anything and I wanted to let you know that I'll be going to the hospital to check on my sister," Isabella stuttered, trying to explain.James turned to face her, his expression cold."Suit yourself," he said, his voice dismissive. "I don't care what you do, remember; we've got eyes watching us
James got into his car and drove away without saying a word to her. Isabella watched in tears as James drove away, feeling a deep sense of regret and confusion. How did James find out she was there? Was he trailing her?*****James arrived home, his anger and frustration boiling over. He paced back and forth in the living room, waiting for Isabella to come home. When Isabella finally arrived, she looked pale and frightened. James's anger surged again as he saw the fear in her eyes."Where have you been? What were you doing at that apartment? It is obvious there isn't any hospital located on that street," James demanded, his voice harsh.Isabella took a deep breath, trying to explain. "I'm sorry I lied, I...I had to go see Alex," she said, her voice trembling.James's eyes narrowed. "Why?" he spat. "What could you possibly have to say to him? Is there something going on between you two that I'm not aware of?"Isabella hesitated, unsure of how to explain. "I...I got some threat messages
James stood in front of the mirror, adjusting his tie for what felt like the hundredth time. He was nervous about the gala night, not just because of the important people who would be attending but for the same reason his father asked him to attend, as he waited for her to get ready for them to leave. What was taking her so long? He had told her what time they needed to leave, and he had expected her to be ready by now; he thought l.Just as he was starting to get impatient, Isabella emerged from the bedroom, looking stunning in a red evening gown. But as James's eyes scanned her outfit, his expression turned from admiration to disgust."What are you wearing?" he asked, his voice dripping with disdain.Isabella looked taken aback by James's reaction. "It... it's a dinner dress, I...I thought you would like it," she stammered.James's eyes narrowed. "Like it?" he repeated. "You look like a prostitute. That dress is far too revealing."Isabella's face fell, and she looked like she was
Emily? Isn't that Emily? Mr. Reed said, his eyes fixed on the woman standing at the door."Good evening, Mr. Reed," she replied, a bright smile spreading across her face. "It's such a pleasure seeing you here."Mr. Reed welcomed her warmly, his face lighting up with a smile. "Ah, Emily, you're welcome. You came at the right time. We're just about to have dinner. Please, join us."Her face lit up with delight as she accepted the invitation. "Thank you, Mr. Reed. I'd love to join you."As she sat down at the table, Mr. Reed made an introduction, “This is beautiful Bella, James's wife, I'm sure you both might have met at my birthday party and also at the wedding.”“Welcome Emily,” giving a polite smile. James, who had been quiet until now, spoke up, his voice friendly. "So Emily. What brings you here tonight?"Emily's smile faltered for a moment before she recovered. "Oh, I just wanted to drop by and see how you were doing. I haven't seen you for a couple of days. I was around the neigh
James finally got discharged from the hospital, accompanied by his wife and Steve. As they pulled into the driveway, James smiled, feeling a sense of relief wash over him.“Home sweet home," he said, his voice filled with gratitude.Bella smiled, helping James out of the car. "Welcome home, I know how much you've missed it," she said, her voice soft. "Let's get you settled in."Steve nodded, grabbing James's bag from the trunk. "Bella, why don't you take the bag upstairs, while I assist him inside.”James nodded, smiling weakly. "Thanks, Steve. I appreciate it."As they all tried to settle in, Bella excused herself, “I'm gonna take the bag upstairs, then come prepare something for us to eat," she said, her voice distracted.James thanked her, mentioning that he was really starving. "Thank Goodness cuz I'm famished already. What's for dinner?"Bella smiled, winking at him. "You'll just have to wait and see, baby. But trust me, it'll be worth it."James grinned, feeling a sense of antic
"Hey babes, that reminds me, have you heard anything from the police concerning James's accident?" Mia asked Isabella as they both prepared to step out.She shook her head, her expression somber. "Not really," she replied, her voice soft. "They've carried out all necessary investigation but I hope they find out who did it and apprehend the culprit. It's just so frustrating not knowing what happened."Mia nodded sympathetically, her eyes filled with concern. "I know, Bella. It's terrible. But I'm sure the police are doing everything they can to investigate. They'll find out who did it, don't worry, you need to take a break from all of this and allow them to do their job."Isabella smiled weakly, her eyes welling up with tears. "Thanks, Mia. Just talking to you makes me feel a little better. But I'm still so worried about my husband, he's been through so much already, and now this...it's just too much."Mia hugged Isabella tightly, trying to offer what little comfort she could. "I know
"What are you doing here, Alex?" Bella asked, not smiling and looking around if anyone was watching,"C’mon, you don't have to be hostile towards me. I was worried about you, Bella. After James came to my place to look for you, I thought he must have hurt you or done something to you."Mia, standing next to Bella, didn't give him a second glance, her expression cold and unyielding. "You need to leave now, Alex," she said, her voice firm. "Or I'll call the cops on you.”Bella's eyes narrowed, her expression suspicious. "Why did you do it?" she asked, her voice firm.Alex looked confused, his expression innocent. "Do what?" he asked, his voice soft. "I don't know what you're talking about, Bella."Bella's eyes flashed with anger, her expression furious. "Don't play dumb with me, Alex," she said, her voice firm. "I know you're involved in James' accident. And I want you to tell me why."Alex's expression changed, his eyes narrowing, his face twisting in anger. "How dare you lay such accu
"Emily? What are you doing here?" Steve asked, his voice gruff.Emily's smile never wavered. "Really? C’mon, have you forgotten I'm also a close friend and also a business associate with James? Anyways, I heard about his accident and I just had to come and see how he's doing," she said, her voice dripping with insincerity.Mia raised an eyebrow. "That's very kind of you, Emily. But I'm sure James would rather not have you here right now."Emily's smile faltered for a moment before she regained her composure. "Oh, I'm sure James would want me to be here for him. We're old friends, after all, and we have a lot of things in common."Isabella's eyes flashed with anger. "You're not his friend, Emily. You're just someone who's been trying to sabotage our marriage from the beginning, someone who has been forcing herself on a man who doesn't want her and will never want her "Emily's smile turned icy. "That's not true, Isabella. I'm just someone who cares about James and wants to see him happ
Steve burst through the hospital doors, his face etched with concern. He had just heard the news about James' accident and had rushed to the hospital to see his best friend. As he entered the waiting room, he spotted Isabella and Mia sitting, her eyes red-rimmed from crying.Steve rushed to them, his voice urgent. "Bella, what happened? I just heard about James' accident. Is he okay?"Isabella looked up at Steve, her eyes confused. "I...I don't know. I was just as shocked as you. I don't know what happened; immediately I got the news, I rushed down here."Steve's eyes narrowed, his expression skeptical. "You don't know? But he left the office saying he was going to look for you at Mia's place just a few hours ago. Did you not see him?"Isabella stuttered, her eyes darting around the room. "N-no...I didn't see him. I swear, Steve. I have no idea what happened."Steve's expression turned dark, his voice low and menacing. "You know you're the cause of all of these, if you hadn't left the
Isabella burst through the hospital doors, her eyes scanning the hospital frantically. She rushed to the reception desk, her voice shaking with urgency. "I need to see my husband, James Reed. He's a patient here."The nurse behind the desk looked up, her expression calm. "Ma'am, please, you need to calm down. Can you please tell me what's wrong?"Isabella's eyes flashed, her voice rising. "What's wrong? Seriously? I just received a call saying my husband was rushed down here and you stand here asking me what's wrong? My husband is here, and I need to see him right now."The nurse's expression turned sympathetic. "Ma'am, I understand. But you need to calm down, let's wait for the doctor attending to your husband to come."Isabella's face twisted in frustration. "No, I won't calm down. I need to see him. Now." Her voice echoed through the hospital lobby.A doctor approached, his expression firm. "Ma'am, I need to ask you to comfort yourself. You're in a hospital for God's sake, and not
Mia flung open the door, her expression fierce, expecting to see Alex's smirking face. But instead, she was met with James' pale and sad visage. His eyes, once bright and confident, now seemed sunken and desperate.Mia's aggressive stance faltered, her expression softening. "James...what are you doing here?" She stuttered, taken aback by his unexpected visit.James' voice cracked as he spoke. "Sorry to disturb you, Is ... .Isabella here?" His eyes scanned the hallway behind Mia as if hoping to catch a glimpse of his estranged wife.Mia's face contorted in a mixture of pity and guilt. "Uhm, not at all, I….I haven't seen her. I've been trying to reach her, but she's not responding to my calls." She hesitated, unsure how much to reveal.James' face fell, his eyes welling up with tears. "Oh...okay." His voice was barely above a whisper.Mia's expression turned sympathetic. "Hey, are you okay? I was actually about to come to check on her soon. I've been worried sick."James' eyes locked on
Isabella's eyes sparkled as she sipped her coffee, her smile radiant. Mia's apartment was cozy, filled with warm light and comforting aromas.Mia settled beside her, curiosity etched on her face. "So, Isabella, what are your plans?"Isabella's expression turned skeptical. "Plans? I'm still figuring things out. Not gonna lie, I don't want to be idle."Mia nodded encouragingly. "You deserve a break, but I know you're itching to do something."Isabella's thoughts drifted to her finances. "The partial payment from that crazy contract helped with my sister's medical bills, but he still owes me. Besides, my job isn't complete yet, and I haven't given him a child."Mia's eyes narrowed. "You shouldn't rely on him, you know. You need stability."Isabella sighed. "I know. I’m desperately in need of a job. Something meaningful."Mia grinned mischievously. "What if I found you a job and coincidentally, it came with a marriage contract attached? Would you accept?"Isabella's laughter filled the ro
