Chapter 65: The Boss is Back

“How did it go?”

“I t-tried to…the ch-child, I w-was on the ground.” The man stuttered as realization hit him. He wasn’t able to do the end of the bargain. Now he found himself trembling in fear in prison while sneaking for a phone call with the boss.

Boss. She instructed him to call her just that.

A high-pitched, evil laughter was heard on the other line. "Calm down, I can't understand you if you're stuttering so badly."

The man gulped. Now that his drunken state has worn off, frustration and shame took over. He tried his best to recall what happened but the details were too ugly for his preference. Besides, he wasn't really a devil. He knew that what he did was wrong.

It was blurry but before he collapsed, he remembered being pinned down the ground by the Desmond heir and the siren of police cars flooded his fading consciousness.

In the end, he settled for the simplest and most straightforward response. "I couldn't do it. I couldn't bring them down."
