Chapter Fifty One

The sound of someone whimpering reverberated in my nightmare, abruptly pulling me out of it. I opened my eyes, blinking to adjust to the semi-darkness in the room, due to the moonlight streaming in through the glass wall.

As I turned towards the source of the sound, I discovered Rosalie also experiencing a nightmare, tears streaming down her face. Swiftly, I sat up in bed and switched on the bedside lamp.

"Rose? Wake up, it's only a dream." I gently shook her awake. "Rose."

Abruptly, her eyes flew open, and she sat up in bed, gasping for breath. Her hands instinctively rose to touch her cheeks, and in surprise, she pulled them back, as if unable to believe she was crying.

"Rose?" I whispered, concern evident in my voice. "Are you ok?"

Turning her head, she looked at me without truly focusing her gaze on me, and I pondered just what she had dreamt about. Was it truly so dreadful that it had brought tears to her face?

"Rose?" I urged. "Talk to me."
