Kayla's POV
As I dressed, my heart hammered against my ribcage. I inwardly feared if Liam had realized Tristian is his father. I knew he had noticed how I stayed away from him all these years and he asked me about it a few times.
I knew I couldn't run from Tristian now that Liam has taken an interest in him. I looked into the mirror as I let out a sigh before stepping out of the room.
The duo didn't notice my presence at first and Liam was sitting on Tristian's laps whispering something into his ears. I picked the bouquet of flowers Tristian had given to me before clearing my throat. "If you two want to stay back, I'll gladly have dinner out myself." I said and they both looked at me.
Tristian's eyes raked my body from head to toe and I could tell he was impressed by how much I've grown more. It's not like I cared but it still made me feel all woozy inside. "You look beautiful." He said and I lifted Liam in my arms, not replying to him.
We all sat in the car and he drove us to one of the fanciest restaurants in New York City. Only a reservation of one table can take you six months to book because they are always busy.
"You should have just booked a table at a less expensive restaurant." I said, stepping out of the car.
"I didn't book a table. I booked the whole restaurant." He said and I looked at him like he was crazy. "Come on Liam."
Liam happily followed him as I stood there in shock. This man was crazy. I rushed after them and the whole restaurant was quiet, no one was inside, not even the cooks.
"I'll be making dinner for us." He said as he walked to the back of the counter.
"If you wanted to cook dinner for us, you should have just allowed us to stay back home. I don't appreciate the wastage of money." I crossed my arms in front of my chest, sincerely furious.
"It is not a waste. When you have the money, you spend the money, because more of the money will come where the first came from." He replied as he unbuttoned a couple of buttons on his chest and rolled up his sleeves. "Wanna help me cook, little one?"
"Yes, uncle Tristian." Liam smiled happily and I just sat at the counter, looking at the two of them laughing and cooking. I couldn't deny it warmed my heart a bit.
Tristian looked back at me and flashed me his sexy smile and my insides melted. What was this guy doing to me? He made me let all my guard down and is being extremely sweet to me.
Was I wrong about him that night? Should I have stayed back with him? He looked like someone who would allow me to follow my dreams no matter what.
"A plate to taste." Liam placed a plate of a very small portion of food before me.
I forced myself to tear my gaze off him before looking down at the mouthwatering food they just prepared. The aroma alone was enough to tell me it was very delicious.
I tasted the food and my eyelids twitches due to the explosion of deliciousness in my mouth. "Damn, this is so delicious." I said and they both looked at each other with pride.
"Best cooking duo." Liam squealed as he high fived Tristian who chuckled.
"Now go sit down, let me serve you yours." He said to Liam who rushed over to sit next to me. As I ate slowly, my eyes followed his every movement sneakily.
His hair was neatly combed and his eyes sparkled as he looked down at Liam and joked with him. After we finished dinner, I stepped in to wash the plates while Liam ran around the restaurant.
"You did a good job raising him, Kayla." He said with a calm voice as his eyes followed Liam's every movement.
"Why did you come back, Tristian?" I asked again, this time, ready to listen to him. "I can never trust a man after what my ex did to me despite knowing my past with guys and knowing you wanted to continue where we left off that night, u just ran."
"I understand you, Kayla. I am also giving love another chance with you and I am sure you won't break my heart. It is the risk I am willing to take for you, for Liam. You could have just gotten rid of him but you decided to keep him and raise him. I can't imagine how much pain you went through alone." He said with a small sigh before looking at me.
"If you will give us a chance, Kayla, I am ready to give you my all." He said and before I could reply, Liam jumped in.
"Can we go home momma? I'm going to fall asleep soon." He said and I nodded gently before wiping my hands.
"I'll return you guys home." Tristian said and we all returned to the car. The whole ride back was silent and by the time we got to our apartment, Liam had fallen asleep.
I lifted him in my arms and looked at Tristian. "Why don't you come in and have dessert." I said and he smiled.
I placed Liam in bed and returned to make the dessert Liam refused to make for Tristian. As I prepared the ingredients, I felt him wrap his arms around my waist.
"I'm sorry for not being there for you, Kayla. I promise to make it up to you." He said and I hummed gently before facing him and he hesitantly leaned in. I stood on my toe and placed a small kiss on his lips and immediately I did that, he pulled me back and started kissing me.
"You don't know how much I've waited to kiss these lips again." He said as we parted for breath. "I want you so much, Kayla."
I dropped everything in my arms and we started kissing and undressing as I led him to my room.
"Damn… Kayla." He groaned as he pulled off his belt and pushed me to the bed. "I can't wait any longer, I want you now."
Tristian's POVI woke up the following morning with the sound of water in the distance. I sat up in bed and realized I wasn't in my bed and I was undressed under the sheets. My mind wandered back to what transpired between Kayla and I yesterday night and I smiled to myself, knowing I have her all for myself now. I was still smiling when she stepped out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around her chest. "Good morning, Tristian." She said gently and I stepped out of bed with the sheets around me, before kissing her cheeks. "Morning, Star." I replied and she blushed gently. "I have to prepare Liam for school. He will be awake any minute and he shouldn't see you in here or he will tease me till the end of this year." She said and I chuckled before nodding. I stepped into the bathroom and took a quick bath, with her still running through my mind. I now know my body refused to forget her feel and no other woman makes me aroused as much as she does. I won't stop till I make her comp
Ciara's POV I waited for Tristan's mum to call me into the room, my heart thumping in my chest. My head seemed to be filled with vivid images of him, with images of the time we had spent together, images of the good times we had shared.I wanted those good times back. Fuck, I wanted to have him back. I wanted him because he was mine and nobody else. This wasn't an obsession. This was me taking back what was rightfully mine and had always been mine. We belonged together, and for the few months that we have been apart, the hole in my heart grew larger everyday. That was why I jumped first time at the opportunity his mum had offered, asking me if I still loved Tristan enough to marry him. It wasn't even supposed to be a question. I loved Tristan enough to do more than just marry him—I was willing to do anything to show him that I wasn't the same Ciara of a few years ago. I wasn't that same Ciara. I was ready to love him wholeheartedly, I was ready to dedicate my existence to him.I tuck
KAYLA'S POVI wasn't going to be at the office today, and I told Anna just that. Smiling, she had reassured me of how she could take care of our ever increasing clients on her own, and I had ended the call, happy that Nova interiors seemed to be moving forward and not the other way round. It was going to be a while before we displaced White Rock interior from being the best in the game, but we were getting there. Slowly, but surely.Armed with my laptop, I searched for beautiful pieces which I could use to decorate Tristian's penthouse. There was something about work I couldn't explain: the idea of throwing myself into what I loved, the idea of doing it with passion, with effort, it was something I enjoyed, it gave me life, it had always been work. Work had always remained when men had never stayed. While I was a disaster when it came to relationships, I was excellent when it came to work. This was why I did what I loved with passion. I was always ready to learn–ready to do whatever p
CIARA'S POVI waited in the Toyota Corolla I had rented, sipping coffee from the flask in my hand. This was what Tristian Ravenford had reduced me to. A stalker. I was next to his house, disguised in a brunette wig and brown contacts in my eyes, praying he wouldn't recognize me. I had taken Mrs Ravenford’s words to heart. If I really wanted my man, there was no need to sit and watch. It was up to me to fight for him, it was up to me to continue trying until I could try no more. And for Tristian Ravenford’s hand in marriage, I was willing to do more than just stalk.I was eating the cookies I had bought along with the coffee when the gates opened to reveal his car. Twisting the rearview mirror and checking it to make sure my disguise was in perfect order, I slid my hand out of the window, wanting to appear casual. He was dressed in a flannel shirt and was sitting upright in the passenger seat next to his driver, his blonde hair a messy crop on top of his head. I liked when he carried
TRISTIAN'S POVI was happy that I had persuaded Kayla into inviting me over to her house for dinner. If there was anything I wanted, it was that feeling of being close to her, that feeling of being around her. It made me feel at home, it reminded me of family, and most of all, it made me comfortable.“Tall man. Will you sleep in the same bed with my momma tonight?”I drop my phone, my face clouding with embarrassment. His smartness was becoming a real pain in the ass, and I wondered how Kayla coped with him. “I cannot say, Liam. Hopefully, let's see what the night brings.”“Are you saying it depends on my momma?”The boy is definitely too intelligent. I prayed silently that Kayla hasn't overheard us because I knew what was coming if she heard the one sleep and my momma in one sentence coming from her five years old son.“Yes, Liam. It depends on your mother. See, women are complicated creatures. Concerning them, you learn to thread with caution. If not, you'll regret in the end.”I w
KAYLA'S POVTwo years agoI hailed a taxi, my heart hammering in my chest. I was excited. This was the day I had been waiting for, the day that had kept me awake all other nights in anticipation, the day that I had planned about for the past month. It was the day that Marcus Turner and I had began dating—it was our anniversary.Marcus and I had come a long way. The first time he had approached me, I was in a restaurant with my friends, Bella and Trisha, and we had been eating chicken and chips. It was one of those days when we were bombarded with school work that we had to go to school hungry, then run into the restaurant opposite the school to have a bite before we resumed again. That day, I was very tired and in my worst state of mind. My hair was in a mess even though I had tied it in a bun that morning, and I was sure my makeup was already done for. Bella and Trisha looked the same, haggard and tired. What choice did we have? We were fighting for our degrees, we had no other choic
TRISTAN'S POVI packed up the remnants of my belongings, ignoring my mother at the door. She still had that look of disbelief on her face, and I'm pretending I've not seen it. I packed all my clothes into a duffel bag while she stared, surprised and shocked that I am serious with the proposal I made to her and my father some days ago. “You've got to be kidding me, Tristian. How are you gonna survive? Who do you know out there?”“I'll survive mum. I want independence, I don't want to be the heir to the throne you and Dad have created. I want to be my own man.”I continued packing, having just one place in mind where I could spend the night—Ciara’s house. Ever since I had met Ciara, my life had changed. I knew what love meant, she made me understand that I was an adult and not a teenager anymore, she made me understand that I was not that teenager that waited on his parents for dough anymore. That was why I had told my parents a few days ago that I wanted to live on my own and wanted t
KAYLA'S POVI was lying down on the bed even though I knew that the clock had struck eight o'clock a long while ago, I couldn't bear the pain of waking up. I couldn't even beat the thought of waking up to face the day. That was what Marcus Turner had done to me, he had succeeded in making me a wreck, a shadow of my former self.I rolled on the bed, stifling a groan. I had been crying for days till the tears refused to flow any more, and I had to gradually come to the realization that I was done crying, that I had no more tears left in me. Trisha had been a good friend so far, from accommodating me to making sure I ate even when I said I wasn't hungry, I wondered what I would've done without her. I could hear her movements in the kitchen, the frying and the beautiful aroma of the bacon and scrambled eggs that filtered into the bedroom. What Trisha lacked in physical beauty, she made up through her cooking and the inner beauty she possessed. She was very kind, and at such a low moment
KAYLA'S POV The courtroom was filled to the brim. The tension was crackling, and one could hear a pin drop. Both lawyers had presented their arguments, and it was up to the jury to make their decision before it would be passed down to the judge.I stare at Tristian Ravenford, who stared at me in return. He was in a beautiful suit, and he looked handsome. His wound was healing fast, and his life was returning back to normal. All of our lives were returning back to normal.Liam was in school once again, and his story was being turned into a documentary. A writer was also writing it to turn it into a book, it was a beautiful story, a story of survival and determination to survive, to live. I was back at work, but I had a different plan for myself and my son after this case. During the past year while the case had been dragging on, I had used the proceeds of Nova interiors to set up another branch in California. That was my plan. I was going to move away with Liam, and I was going to st
KAYLA'S POVI fell in shock as I watched the life seep out of the man I had come to love. He was bleeding profusely, and from the distant look in his eyes, I could see that he was gradually fading. The gun had fallen from Ciara's hand and she was also bent in worry, her hair soaking up Tristian's blood as she bent to check if he was breathing. I was dumbfounded. I was lost. I was crippled with fear. I didn't know what to do at that moment, I could only pray that Tristian Ravenford didn't die. I couldn't imagine living without him, I couldn't imagine losing him. I was crying now, but I wasn't myself. It seemed I was looking at everything happening from a distance. That was what fear seemed to do to me. Fear was one of my enemies, and anytime it hit me at its fullest, I would suddenly go numb. I was paralyzed by fear. By the fear of death. But at that moment, the paralysis disappeared because a dozen sirens began to sound, and even the huge siren of the ambulance made me wipe my tea
KAYLA'S POVI left the station after Tristian. I wanted to know where he was going. When he kissed me on the forehead, there was something in his eyes, a determined look that told me all I needed to know. He was going somewhere, somewhere dangerous, and he didn't want me to know. For all I knew, the kiss on my forehead was one of farewell. And if I was going to lose my son, I didn't want to lose him too no matter how much I hated the chaos he had brought into my life. That was why I left the station in a taxi, telling the taxi to follow his car. I was afraid for him. I was afraid that he wasn't going to come back to me, afraid of the steely determined expression I had found on his face, of the look in his eyes. I didn't want to lose Tristian Ravenford because I still loved him. And I would do anything to keep that love alive and burning. His car stopped next to a house that had overgrown grass and peeling paint. I stopped the taxi, paying the bald headed driver off and tipping hi
TRISTIAN'S POVI drove out of the police station, my feet on the accelerator. I knew exactly where Ciara's old house was located, and even though I wasn't particularly sure, I felt that she was inside there. My instincts told me so. There was no other place Ciara Hemsworth went to hide when things were tough, and I believed that she was still in that house, probably waiting for the chaos she had created to die down. But why?Why did it have to be Liam? What had I done to Ciara to deserve the hate and the dislike? What had I done, that had deserved Kayla's son being kidnapped, that had almost brought a rift in our relationship and destroyed it?As far as I knew, I had never left Ciara just because I wanted to leave her. I had left her because my life was endangered, because I knew and felt that if she was capable of ganging up with my old friends and stealing my money, then there was nothing she couldn't do to satisfy her greed for money. But why?Why had she gone ahead to try and d
CIARA'S POV I stood next to my car, crouching. I was quite a distance from the apartment I shared with Adrian, but I could see everything that was happening. I had initially wanted to go out, but I had just discovered that I had forgotten the stash of cash I wanted to use in purchasing gas for my car.About four or more police squad cars had filled the yard, and I could see a few policemen come out. A megaphone rented the air, announcing that anyone in the house should come forth. When I saw Adrian come out of the house his hands raised in surrender, my heart skipped a beat. The policemen were all over him in seconds, his body against the squad car. A few officers went inside the house, and I imagined them combing the house, looking for Liam. I nodded grimly. Jokes on them. That was my reason for taking him to the orphanage. It was just as if I had known. It was happening before my eyes. The officers came forth from the house empty-handed. A few questions were thrown to Adrian wh
ADRIAN'S POV I stared at Camila, surprised, hurt and angry. How dare she choose Tristian Ravenford over me? I had been in the meeting for days, the spoils were mine to take. How come she had made the whole shareholders still vote for Tristian over me? I was annoyed. Standing, I addressed them, my hands trembling in anger.Without mincing words, I left the agency, anger coursing through my veins. How was it possible? How had he made it happen?I knew that Camila was once his lover, but how she had successfully maneuvered the decision of the shareholders to favor Tristian Ravenford was beyond me. I saw everything I had planned by trying to get power come crashing down. I wasn't going to get a good lawyer, and I wasn't going to get custody of my daughter.Dejected, I entered the house I now shared with Ciara, surprised to see her eating and not finding Liam anywhere.“Ciara? Where's Liam?”She stared at me, grinning widely.“Didn't you get my text? Him being around wasn't safe. I've ta
KAYLA'S POVComing back home, I noticed Tristan's Porsche in my garage once again. For the record, I knew what he was going through at the moment. I had heard that he hadn't even been going to work anymore. He was going through the same feelings I was going through because of Liam. It was clear as day. Maybe I was treating him quite wrongly, maybe I was treating him unfairly. He had already gone to three private investigators, and most of them had been paid without any results. It was all the same thing. He was sitting on the stairs and stood up when he saw me, his eyes glinting in happiness. His hair was a mess, his shirt was stained and even his beards were unshaven. At that moment, all I wanted to do was hold him. We had been through a lot together, and I knew it was best if I let him come into my house at least for the time being. He sat on the sofa, watching television while I took a shower. When I entered the sitting room, I could see his eyes light up as soon as he saw me in
ADRIAN'S POVI stared at my wife, Natalie. She was stating her terms clearly, and although she had said it before, I couldn't believe it. I was finding it difficult to believe that she meant what she was saying, that she was indeed doing what I thought she was doing. For the past two weeks, I had been so occupied with my role in the Liam abduction that I had absolutely no time for anything else. That meant missing a few of Natalie's calls and texts, and getting back to the house I used to call mine after that period, I was shocked to see everything packed up. Natalie was staring at me, awaiting my reply. She had stated her terms fairly. She wanted a divorce. And she wanted to take custody of our daughter.“Come on, Natalie, come off it.”“There's no coming off anything, Adrian Ravenford. You left the house for two weeks, never returned my calls or texts. Never checked up on your daughter. Never even bothered to ask us how we were faring. And now you hope to see your house in the orde
CIARA'S POVI didn't like the way things were going. It was now a week and Tristian Ravenford wasn't still mine. It drove me crazy, the fact that I might be doing all this in vain, that at the end of the day, he might not even belong to me. He was probably still with Kayla right now, and even thinking about it made me hurt with anger. Adrian on the other hand had started to infiltrate Tristian's agency. Due to the fact that he wasn't coming to work, it was stated in the company rules that within two working weeks, if the head of the shareholders didn't show up, then it was natural for a member of his family to take up the post after a vote. Adrian was going to his agency everyday without Tristian's knowledge, and I knew that it was only a matter of time before he got his heart's desire, before he achieved what he was seeking. And what about me? When was I going to achieve mine?It hurt me and as I stared at Liam, I suddenly realized that the hatred I felt towards him and his mother
