Elena POV

I stood in front of the counter, slicing my veggies for the omelet. I wonder if Alex would also want one.

This looked familiar, oh yes, I used to make this for Pete back in those times when I was stupidly in love.

I chuckled, crazy, cause after taking my time to make him breakfast every morning he skips it and when he doesn't he finds fault in it.

It's either it wasn't cooked properly or it doesn't have enough salt or veggies. This made me so unconfident about my cooking skills.

Not knowing he was sleeping around with another woman only for me to be cooking for him and sheltering him.

Wasn't I ever enough for him? Does our relationship, the time we spent together, didn't they mean anything to him before he thought of leaving me for that blondie?

I wonder if I was ever going to find him and get my father's house back?

So many questions that I kept asking myself and haven't been answered yet.

And what scares me the most are these tingling feelings I feel towards Alex that

Elena POV After our breakfast, Alex went to the balcony to answer a business call while I cleaned up the dishes. Once I was through with the dishes I decided to take a nap. As I walked towards the room I glanced back at Alex, his back facing me, the sun shining on him like it was a stage show. His broad shoulders and godly figure attracted me the most. I bit my lower lips slightly, unconsciously staring at every motion he made while still on the call.In my eyes everything he did was in slow motion like in those movies where a mysteric being from another universe, every effect it made was what I was seeing. His hair was rough and unstyled, bare chest with six or eight packs I couldn't care less, with his lower body covered in joggers.I exhaled unknowingly. He looked like a damn demi god. I leaned on the handrail of the staircase daydreaming and smiling sheepishly into nothing.I heard a faint distant voice calling out my name and couldn't seem to fathom where the distant voice cam

Elena POV I took my phone dashing out of the house so pissed that the death glares I gave Mike and James, the two body guards, didn't dare to stop me.As soon as I was out of that bombshell I sat down near a fountain at the park still fuming with anger that the reason wasn't best known to me.“ How dare he” I said, talking to myself, “ darling?” I huffed repeating what the unknown person said “ more like devil”He couldn't even excuse himself before taking the call, answering it in front of me like it was nothing.Of course, what was I annoyed about? It was nothing after all. I'm so stupid to think this would be something between us. Maybe we could have grown something between us.Argh, what am I saying? Jeez, I knew from the beginning that whatever was between us would always be a business proposal, it's not like he would even think of me in that direction.I mean, look at me, I'm broke with nothing to claim account for, I can't even match his status one bit or even be as prettier a

Elena POV By the time we got to the house, the sky was already darker. Alex had called multiple times but I didn’t answer the phone.I knew what he was gonna say so why waste my time on the phone when it would just increase my already irritated feelings.I opened the door to find everywhere in the house eerily dark with no lights on for no reason. I was looking for the light switch when I felt someone behind me.A shadow that seems to blend well with the current darkness that has enveloped the house. It didn't take me a second to figure out who. “ Switch on the lights Alex” I said, but he didn't respond.“ Alex” I called again but still no response, only the creepy sound of the cricket outside followed.Getting frustrated I launched forward to where I felt he'd be sitting but as soon as I took two steps I felt a jolt of pain exude my body.I pressed my toes on the floor trying to suppress the pain.“ Alex,” I hissed, frowning.Only then did he switch on the lights. I glared at him h

Elena POV Alex chuckled and I flinged, realising I was in his arms. I bit my lips slightly. As much as this was scary I didn't want him to find what to tell me about but as I loosened my grip attempting to go back to the place I said before, he pressed me firmly on his chest not letting me go."What are you doing -?" I asked warily."Shush" he said, bringing me to sit down while he cuddled me. “ Don't move”"I don’t need you to—"Another thunderclap. My breath hitched, hugging him tightly.I should have pushed him away. Should have told him to leave. But I didn’t.His warmth seeped into me, strong arms holding me close, grounding me in a way I hadn't realized I needed."Just breathe," he murmured, his lips near my ear.I clenched my fists against his shirt, my pride battling the undeniable comfort of his embrace.Minutes passed. Maybe more. Then, just as my eyelids grew heavy, he spoke."You're the most stubborn woman I've ever met ,Elena."Well, that's something I couldn't deny if

That was—!” I stammered, at a complete loss for words. Alex sat up slowly, brushing a hand through his disheveled hair, looking completely unbothered. If anything, there was an infuriating smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. “What?” he said lazily, tilting his head. “It’s not my fault you fell on me.” I gaped at him. “You—you kissed me!” He raised a brow. “Technically, you kissed me.” Oh, I was going to lose my mind. “That wasn’t a kiss! It was—” I gestured wildly between us. “An accident! A—a gravity-induced misfortune!” Alex let out a low chuckle, shaking his head. “A gravity-induced misfortune? Elena POV As we walked through every section of the mall, it was clear who the star of the day was. Catherine Stones -The fairy Princess of Las Vegas. Always perfect. Always radiant and flawless. The center of all attention. Nobody paid yield to me, a nobody. They only attended to her and left me like I didn't exist at all. Not like I'd care. I wonder how she still has the energy to still carry on shopping like she was made for it cause I was already tired. My legs ached from all the go here and there. Although she tagged me along I knew I didn't belong in this world. It wasn't my speciality. Just as finally thought this misery was about to end as we were about to exit the jewellery store, a voice stopped us. Elena POV “Good morning,” I said, suddenly feeling shy under her motherly gaze. There was a kindness in her eyes that I hadn’t felt in a while.“You’re early,” she smiled, brushing imaginary dust off my shoulder. “I love early birds.”The warmth inside her home was inviting. A faint floral scent hung in the air—roses and vanilla, maybe—and the furniture was neat but lived-in. Nothing pretentious. Just home.“Come,” she said, waving me into the kitchen. “I was just about to make us something. Pancakes? Or do you prefer something else?”“Pancakes are fine,” I smiled, settling onto one of the stools. She tied her apron, humming softly to herself as she worked. The sizzle of the batter hitting the pan made everything feel…normal. Comforting. She wasn't what I thought she would be. Judging by her demeanor I thought she would be the extravagant type but she is making breakfast for her and I.Suddenly, there I heard a tiny voice echo throughout the room. Followed by the heavy stomp of boots against the floorboards.I froze in place. After a few seconds I slowly turned, the fridge still open, my heart on the edge of my throat as I tried as much as possible to control it.Alex stood there disheveled. He was slightly sweaty with his shirt half-unbuttoned. His hair was tousled like he'd been running his hands through it for hours. From here I could smell the strong smell of expensive alcohol and something else—bitterness, maybe. His eyes locked on mine, sharp and dark and... cold.He took a slow step forward. “What the hell do you think you're doing?”My throat dries instantly. “I—uh—I was just getting something to eat. Elena POV I sucked in a breath, stunned at her effortless defense. Catherine’s face reddened, her fingers curling into fists at her sides. For a moment, it looked like she might argue, but then Alex’s mother delivered the final blow.“Now, if you’ll excuse us, my daughter-in-law and I have lunch to attend.”Catherine’s mouth opened, then snapped shut. She couldn’t argue with that without making a bigger fool of herself.Fuming, she turned on her heel and stormed off, her heels clicking against the marble floor.Looking at her angry back disappearing I couldn't help but smirk. Elena POV I knew she must have heard the fight or probably seen it on the news on how I disgraced her son.But how embarrassing it would be if she ever knew the reason behind the fuse was my misunderstanding of her.Oh God!She softly raised my head up to look at her. “He loved you, you know,” she continued, her voice taking on a wistful tone. “That’s why it hurt him so much.”A sharp pang shot through my chest, and I looked away, unable to hold her gaze any longer. “I didn’t mean to hurt him,” I whispered. She sighed, letting go of my hand. “I know, dear. Sometimes, life doesn’t give us choices.”There was something in her tone—something deeper, something unsaid. Like she wasn’t just talking about me and Alex but about herself too. I glanced at her, but she was already looking away, her fingers tracing the petals of a nearby rose.“I never wanted to leave Alex and Nick,” she said suddenly, and I froze. “They were my world. But I had no choice.”I looked at her then, truly looked at

I'll sort everything out and once that happens you'll get the freedom you so crave for.” He paused before continuing almost immediately.“ Of course with your payment in full and profit included”His words hit me like a punch to the gut, and I felt tears prick at the corners of my eyes. “That’s not true,” I repeated, my voice breaking. I felt the urge arising to explain things to him. To tell him I really didn't mean for any of this to happen but it was obvious enough that I really had hurt him“I cared, Alex. I still care.”He laughed again, but there was no humor in it. “ Well then, you have a funny way of showing it.”I took a step closer, desperate to make him understand. “I was scared, okay? I didn’

The moment those words left my mouth I knew I would regret it. He stood up staring at me, his expression unreadable. The room, which had already been deathly silent, now felt dangerously dead. I heard the sharp inhale of breath from someone—Jane, maybe. The sound of shifting bodies. But my attention was locked on Alex. He didn’t move. Didn’t react. Just stood there, staring at me, his expression unreadable. The tension was suffocating. I should have felt victorious. But for some reason, I felt like I had just stepped too close to the edge of a cliff. My head was spinning, my vision getting blurrier. I wanted to steady myself but I couldn't hold it anymore so I placed my hands on the table too. Then— Alex turned. Just like that. Without a single word, he straightened, adjusting his cufflinks with precise, measured movements then he looked at Grace. "Take her home," he said. His tone was calm—too calm. One that's distant and sent a shiver through my bones. Grace hesitated

Elena POV Laughter bubbled around the table in the private suite that Alex of course arranged. The low hum of chatter and clicking glasses filling the dimly lit room.Right on the table on front of me were grilled meat and expensive whiskey. That's not all cause they were varieties of foods lined up on the table too. Even though everybody were busy chattering away and having the time of their life I couldn't ignore the cold presence and piercing eyes boring into me.Alex sat directly across from me.
