Chapter 8: My dear wife

Flashback to two years ago.

Lydia noticed the distressed look on Anthony’s face as he stepped into her office. She had never seen him this defeated since they began dating. He always wore a happy face, which was new to her; nevertheless, her job as a girlfriend was to lessen his burden if possible and console him.

“What’s wrong?” she asked, rising to her feet.

“I think we are going to lose.”

“Lose?” She echoed it, lost as to what he was talking about.

“Do you remember the Boston drug trafficking case on trial?”

Anthony had asked her to accompany him to Boston for their nine-month anniversary, and it was meant to be a week of no work, but he had taken her along to a quick business deal. Lydia had wandered around and entered an office with a ‘Love match’ tag on the door, only to find it stacked with cocaine. She knew it was cocaine because she had watched her parents abuse it as a child, and as an adult, she watched her brother abuse it.
