Chapter 4
"Thanks everyone, I'm happy you all could make time to come," Maria said, her voice delicate, as she bowed slightly, her slender figure dipping forward. As she stepped off the stage, she made her way through the crowd, greeting people with a warm smile, deliberately ignoring Alejandro, who's been desperately trying to get her attention.
Jessica made her way over to Alejandro, her expression curious. "Did you know she's the daughter of a wealthy family?" she asked, her voice low.
Alejandro raised an eyebrow. "I didn't know, is there a problem with that?" he demanded, his tone defensive.
Jessica hesitated. "No, I was just thinking she's not a good person to have on your bad side," she said, her eyes darting towards Maria.
Alejandro chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I guess you should watch your mouth. She might have a reason for everything," he said, his voice laced with amusement, as he defended Maria.
Jessica's eyes narrowed, her expression skeptical, but she said nothing more. Her gaze simply followed Maria as she moved through the room, her presence commanding attention.
"Why did you keep defending her?" Jessica suddenly asked, an offended frown enveloped her expression. "She's your ex-wife, not like she's still part of your life," even though she didn't want to show it, each of her words were wrapped with jealousy.
Alejandro scoffed with a dismissive expression. "What the fuck is wrong with you? Huh? Do you want me to regret bringing you here?" He leaned closer to her right ear. "Listen to me, it's better you be a good girl and stay quiet. This..." He nodded towards Maria. "...is none of your business," that being said, he turned and walked away, leaving Jessica looking frustrated and flustered.
Jessica's bothered eyes followed Alejandro as he quickly made his way towards the hallway, where Maria was heading. She watched as he caught up to Maria, his long strides eating up the distance.
As he reached her side, he fell into step beside her, his eyes were fixed on her face but Maria didn't acknowledge him. Her gaze was fixed ahead.
"Hi, Maria!" Alejandro said, his voice cheerful, but Maria's response was icy.
She scoffed, her eyes rolling in annoyance, as she turned to face him. "What's the issue, young man? How may I help you?" she demanded, her expression cold, her voice dripping with disdain.
Alejandro's smile faltered, his eyes narrowing in surprise. "Don't you recognize me again?" he asked, his tone laced with confusion.
Maria scoffed once more, her expression incredulous. "Do I have to know you? Am I supposed to you? Or, are you someone important?" she narrowed her eyes in a confused manner, then she gasped dramatically. "Oh! Are you trying to hit on me?" she chuckled as she shook her head in disbelief. "You really suck at hitting on women, buddy." she rolled her eyes as she turned and walk away.
Alejandro's eyes widened in shock, his mind racing with possibilities. Has she truly forgotten him? Or could it be something tragic happened that her forget about him? But what could have happened that made her forget about him so fast?
"Are you sure you don't recognize me?" Alejandro asked, his voice laced with surprise and concern.
Maria hasn't gone far so she heard him perfectly clear, then stopped in her tracks, and quickly turned to face him once more. "Who on earth are you?" she asked, her expression blank, as if she was genuinely puzzled.
Alejandro's eyes searched hers, looking for any glimmer of recognition, but there was none.
"Listen, I'm not a very patient person. If you keep stalking me like this, I might call security on you. So just stay away from me," Maria warned, her voice firm, as she turned to leave once more.
As Maria turned to leave, she heard a familiar voice calling out to her from behind. She looked back to see Xavier, a bright smile on his face, holding a bouquet of flowers. Her face lit up with delight as she rushed towards him, leaving Alejandro standing alone.
"Hey Xavier, you came!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with excitement.
Xavier nodded, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I told you I was going to come. Sorry I'm late. The surgery today was so stressful," he apologized, his expression sheepish.
Maria nodded understandingly, her eyes sparkling with warmth. And to make Alejandro feel even worse, she hugged Xavier tightly, her arms wrapping around him like a vice. She took the flowers from him, her fingers brushing against his.
"Did you get these for me or were you just passing by?" Maria asked, her voice teasing.
Xavier nodded, his smile growing wider. "Thanks so much, you're the best," Maria gushed, her eyes shining with appreciation.
She held out her hand, and Xavier took it, his fingers intertwining with hers. "Come with me to meet my parents," she said, dragging him away, leaving Alejandro to watch them go with a mixture of shock and dismay.
AAlejandro's face contorted in anguish as he shouted, his voice echoing through the hallway. "Stop this! If you're pretending, just stop it, it's annoying!"
Maria and Xavier stopped in their tracks, turning to face him. Alejandro strode towards them, his eyes blazing with emotion, and separated their hands. He faced Maria, his voice cracking with regret.
"If this is your way of getting back at me, I accept it. But I didn't think you'd pretend you don't know me. It really hurt," Alejandro said, his eyes pleading for forgiveness.
Xavier looked on, confusion etched on his face. "Who's he?" he asked Maria.
Maria dismissed him with a wave of her hand. "Don't bother yourself, he's not someone important. You shouldn't bother about it."
Alejandro's eyes locked onto Maria's, his voice filled with sincerity. "I am sorry, Maria. I am deeply sorry. I love you, Maria. I really do."
Maria's expression turned icy, her voice challenging. "What do you know about love? How can you love me when our marriage, which has already ended, was just a contract?"
Alejandro's face twisted in pain, his eyes welling up with tears. "I know I didn't show it, but I realized too late that I do love you, Maria. I want a second chance, please."
"Now I realize you're a joker," Maria said, her voice firm and commanding. "If you will continue to be rude like this, I am going to make sure the security throws you out."
With that, she turned on her heel and walked away, leaving Alejandro standing alone. Xavier, who had been watching the exchange with interest, stepped forward, a wicked grin spreading across his face.
"I have known Maria for a while now, and I haven't seen her this angry," he said, his voice low and menacing. "So stay away from her if you know what's good for you. You seem to be her worst nightmare."
With that, he turned and followed Maria, leaving Alejandro to seethe with frustration and regret.
Chapter 5"That's your ex-husband, right?" Xavier asked, his eyes narrowing slightly as he gazed at Maria.Maria nodded, her hands rubbing together in a nervous gesture. "Can we please not talk about him?" she asked, trying to brush off the uncomfortable moment.Xavier's eyes locked onto hers, his expression curious. "No problem If you want to avoid it, but I sense you're bursting to confront him for what he did to you," he said, his voice gentle but probing.Maria's lips trembled, her eyes flashing with a mix of emotions. "I really want to," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "But I've decided to accept that it's over. It was just a contract. There's nothing to hold onto."Her words trailed off, and she bit her lip, trying to contain the emotions that threatened to spill out. Xavier's gaze remained on hers, his eyes filled with empathy and understanding."It's okay then, you shouldn't hold onto it anymore. He didn't deserve you," Xavier said, his voice filled with convic
Chapter 6Waves of anger and frustration washed over Maria as she spoke to her father over the phone. "Dad, when did you become like this? How did you expect me to work with him?" she asked, trying to calm herself down, but her voice still trembled with emotion. Her father's response was dismissive and uncaring, his words dripping with condescension. "There's nothing I can do about it, daughter. Things have changed, and moreover, I think you should have moved past this. Five years already. You're supposed to have gotten over him." His tone was like a slap in the face, leaving Maria feeling stunned and hurt.Without warning, her father abruptly ended the call, leaving Maria seething with anger and resentment. She slammed her fist onto the table, making the objects on it rattle and shake. Her PA, Tiana, rushed into the room, concern etched on her face."Are you okay, ma?" Tiana demanded, eyeing Maria with a mixture of worry and curiosity. Maria's face was red, her eyes blazing with fury
Alejandro adjusted the sleek labels of his tailored suit, his slender fingers deftly smoothing out the fabric. His eyes flicked to the elegant clock on the wall, the soft tick-tock echoing through the opulent room. He tapped his foot impatiently, his polished black oxfords clicking against the marble floor. As he waited for Marie's arrival, his mind whirled with anticipation and strategy. He knew she would stop at nothing to evade him, to silence the secrets he held. No one knew about their tangled history, and Alejandro intended to keep it that way. This hidden advantage was his trump card, the key to unlocking the doors of Marie's exclusive world. She was a leading lady in the industry, a powerhouse of influence and sophistication.Alejandro stood poised, the mastermind behind the illustrious M and K company, his identity hidden from the world. This carefully crafted anonymity was his shield, allowing him to manipulate the strings from behind the scenes. His plan was to draw Marie
His eyes, a deep, piercing brown, seemed to hold a hint of reassessment, as if reevaluating the dynamics at play. The polite smile that followed was a calculated attempt to diffuse the tension, to redirect the conversation onto safer ground.Marie's slender figure leaned into the warmth of his chest, seeking comfort in the midst of uncertainty. The grand dining hall buzzed with hushed conversations and the soft clinking of fine china, yet the main dinner had not commenced. She couldn't help but wonder who they were waiting for.A pang of guilt stirred within her. She should be at home, enveloped in the warmth of her cozy apartment, cheering up her darling son and bonding with him over a homemade meal. Instead, she had reluctantly sent Tiana, violating the company's strict policy. As the silence stretched, Marie's gaze drifted upward, meeting his piercing eyes. "We don't want to keep you," she replied curtly, her voice barely above a whisper. He nodded graciously, his expression unread
Marie walked towards her parents' porch, the warm glow of the evening lights spilling onto the pathway. She raised her hand to knock, but froze as the sound of a car horn pierced the evening air. It was Xavier, parked by the curb, his car's headlights illuminating the darkening street.Concern etched on her face, Marie turned back and strode towards Xavier's car. She bent down at the window, her hair falling in soft waves around her face."Did you need something?" she inquired, her voice tinged with a hint of worry.Xavier shook his head, a gentle smile playing on his lips. Marie's brow furrowed in confusion."I thought you did, by your horn," she reminded him, her tone laced with amusement.Xavier's gaze held Marie's, his eyes vulnerable as he confessed, "I wanted to say something, but I didn't know how you'd take it, so I decided not to try my luck."His voice was laced with sincerity, and Marie's heart skipped a beat at the genuine emotion. She meant everything to him, and he could
Marie sank into the plush couch, her exhaustion evident in her slumped posture. Her mother, Mrs. Levefre, settled into the armchair opposite her, a hint of curiosity in her voice."So, how was the dinner?"Marie closed her eyes, collecting her thoughts before responding."It was fine, Mom. Just a normal dinner conversation," she replied, deliberately downplaying the evening's events.Mrs. Levefre's eyes narrowed, sensing the omission."Just fine? That's all? You know I saw Xavier's car outside. He's still got feelings for you, Marie."Marie opened her eyes, a warning glance directed at her mother."Mom, please. Let's not rehash this again. I've made my feelings clear."Mrs. Levefre's expression softened, concern etched on her face."I just want what's best for you and your son, Marie. You deserve someone who can provide stability and security."Marie's gaze drifted to her son, engrossed in his toys."That's what I'm trying to give him, Mom – a better life. "Mrs. Maria," The doctor called, his voice firm but gentle.Maria's heart skipped a beat as she stood up, her eyes fixed on the doctor's face. She had been feeling unwell for weeks, and the uncertainty was eating away at her. She took a deep breath, bracing herself for the worst."Hope I'm alright, Doc?" She asked, her voice trembling slightly, her eyes wide with anxiety. The doctor's expression was unreadable, his face a mask of professionalism. Maria's mind raced with worst-case scenarios, her imagination running wild. But then, a hint of a smile played on the doctor's lips. "Ma'am, I am happy to tell you... you're pregnant," He said, his voice warm and congratulatory.Maria's eyes widened in shock, her face pale. Then, a radiant smile spread across her face, and she let out a squeal of delight. She stood up, her hands flying to her mouth, her eyes shining with tears of joy."Oh my goodness! I'm going to be a mother!" She exclaimed, her voice trembling with emotion, her heart overfl
Chapter Two.Marie fished out her cell phone, calling the first person that comes to mind, her private jet operator.“Miss Marie, it is such a pleasant surprise hearing from you, is there something I can help you with?” The male voice came from the opposite side of the cell.“Roger?” she sniffed, alerting the older man.“Marie, what is the problem?” Roger had always taken Marie like she was his own, hearing her break down over the phone makes him want to kill someone, and it wouldn’t be hard for someone of his past. “You only need to give me a name.” he demanded.“No Roger, I just need you to prepare the jet, we’re going home.” She couldn’t contain her tears anymore.“Say no more.” And home, they went.Marie burst through the front door of her parent's mansion, mascara streaking down her cheeks. Chapter Three:“This is great news!” Valerie, Marie's mother exclaimed as her husband told her the news their daughter just shared. She was ready to be announced as the heir of their company, they were thrilled, but most importantly, they had to plan the perfect ball that is befitting for the announcement of their heir as the most richest people in the country.“Oh my God, i have a lot to plan.” Valerie threw her hands around as she paced the room.Marie watched her parents with a mix of amusement and affection. She was grateful for their excitement, but she couldn't deny the nerves stirring in her stomach at the thought of the upcoming ball. As the weight of her future responsibilities settled on her shoulders, she took a deep breath and stepped forward."Mom, Dad, I appreciate all the planning and preparation you're doing for the ball," Marie began, her voice steady despite the fluttering of uncertainty in her chest.
