Joanna opened her eyes. Her head was on Trevor’s chest. Panic struck her when she realized it was light outside. She turned to look at the clock. It was seven a.m.
“Oh my god,” she hissed. She lifted her head to look at Trevor. He was sound asleep.
If she wanted to get to the estate by eight a.m. she had to hurry. Joanna eased off the bed as quickly and quietly as possible. Trevor was a heavy sleeper but she didn’t want to test fate by being careless. Joanna couldn’t afford to have him distract her. Otherwise, she would never get out the door. Her plan had been to leave last night after Trevor had, but both of them had fallen asleep after they had made love.
Joanna was
It was Monday, and Joanna and several of her classmates turned in their portfolios to the assistant dean of the school for him to turn over to the mystery judges to review. On Wednesday, the judges will make themselves known when they reviewed the students’ outfits. Joanna was excited and anxious about the process. It counted for six credits and the top two people who got the highest grades would get a professional review in a fashion magazine. If she was one of the awardees, it could really jump start her career in fashion design. She had thirty minutes until her next class so she hung out in one of the sitting areas upstairs looking out at the city. New York. A city full of possibilities
Joanna had stopped at a restaurant that had a big bathroom on her way to the café where she was supposed to meet Selena. She changed into a pair of old shorts and a gray shirt. She put her hair up in a ponytail and washed her face free of make-up with a wash-cloth she had in her purse. The last thing Joanna needed was to stun Selena senseless by showing up looking the way Clarice looks. She was fifteen minutes late getting to the café, but she got there. It was the café they used to have coffee in before Selena got married. “Hi,” Joanna said as she approached the table two tables away from the front window. “I’m sorry I’m late.” “Well, a
For the first time in almost two weeks all the Hudsons were together for breakfast. Selena asked everyone questions like she hadn’t seen them in six months. “Bruce, how are things going with Catherine?” she asked. “Great. Couldn’t go any better actually,” Bruce bragged with a little smile. “Oh?” Christopher asked with interest. “Do tell.” “Please don’t,” Trevor pleaded. “We’re eating.” “Not even you can get to me this morning, Trevor,” Bruce said w
The fashion students could hardly believe their eyes when they got a look at the three judges. New York born fashion designer, Mickey James, ELLE magazine’s fashion writer, Deidre Payne, and famous French clothing designer, Coco Blanchet were the judges. Keyonna, Joanna, and twenty other students stood next to their creations trying not to fangirl out, as Keyonna would say. It felt like Joanna had to wait for hours for them to get to her station, but they finally did. “Nice,” Deidre Payne commented as she looked over Joanna’s wedding dress. “Thank you,” Joanna whispered.&
It was Thursday morning, and Joanna was helping Winifred clean the ballroom. Courtney was busy cleaning the crystals on the chandelier in the dining room and then she had to do the foyer chandelier. Joanna’s cell rang in her apron. She looked at the caller ID. It was from the doctor’s office that was affiliated with one of the hospitals in the city. They were probably calling about her birth control pill request. “Hello?” “Ms. Joanna Yoder?” “Yes.” “This is Talia, Dr. Patel’s nurse.
There was a makeup artist and hairstylist who prepared Joanna to be interviewed. Keyonna had arrived and she had spun around like Michael Jackson when they had told her she was one of the winners for the fashion review. Deidre Payne had shown up to interview them and to get quotes from Professor Quest and Coco Blanchet.A photographer took Joanna and Keyonna’s pictures next to their creations individually. Then they posed together in front of the rows of fabric. They even took pictures with Coco. They were going to be featured in the October issue of the magazine.Once everything was said and done, Keyonna twirled around and danced out the conference room to rush home to tell her family. Joanna was gathering her wits. It seemed like everything was happening so fast. When she had said this to Professor Quest, he had said, “Get used to it. You’re in the big leagues now, Joanna. The f
Joanna frantically rushed around her room, packing up her things as quickly as possible. She had no idea how she was going to carry all her stuff to the curb to wait on a cab to get her. Joanna was thinking about asking Ray for help when someone banged on the door like they were going to knock it down. “Joanna!” Winifred yelled through the door. “You’ve been gone almost the whole day!” Joanna stilled, hoping the head housekeeper would think she wasn’t in the room if she remained quiet. “Joanna, I know you’re in there. One of the guards told me they saw a cab drop you off at the gate five minutes ago!”&n
Joanna lye on the twin size bed on her back. Courtney sat on the edge of it. She had finished telling Courtney everything that had happened today fifteen minutes ago. The girls sat in silence as they held each other’s hands. Joanna could tell Courtney felt sorry for her, but Joanna didn’t want her pity. She wanted the ability to turn back time to July fourth when she had told Trevor the truth about her background. She wanted a second chance to tell Trevor the rest of her story. But, that was never going to happen. There was a tapping on the door. Courtney let go of Joanna’s hand and walked to the door and opened it.
Joanna and the rest of the family, plus Bruce’s girlfriend, Catherine, stood at the double doors waiting for the Bartholomews. They had just gotten word they were outside. “It’s everything I can do not to start hopping up and down in this spot,” Selena said like a grinning fool Trevor was standing behind Christopher. His eldest brother was a bit taller and wider than him so it was the perfect place to hide until he was ready for them to see him. Gwyneth rushed up to him. “I can tell on your face they are here.” Trevor knew he was smiling like a teenage boy who was about to do something he sh
It was Saturday night and Beverly Balsom would rather be at a club instead of pulling up to the Hudson mansion. She loved Selena like a sister, but she didn’t want to attend some boring ball with a bunch of elitists snobs. But, Selena had said it was worth her while to attend and to bring her reporter hat. She had also asked Beverly to arrive an hour earlier than the invitation had said. It had arrived The N.Y. by carrier for her. When Beverly had asked why she needed to arrive early, Selena had told her it was for a society scoop and she’d be the only reporter to write about it because Judy Budd was definitely not on the invitation list. Beverly got out of her ten-year-old beat up Ford Explorer. She handed the valet her keys and a five dollar tip. “Please don’t park it next to a limo or a Porsche,” she to
Two days later . . . Ava was at her penthouse. She was reading the September edition of Vogue when someone rang her doorbell. “I wonder who that could be,” she mumbled and looked at her watch. It was almost two o’clock. She wasn’t expecting her mother or any friends to drop by. Ava walked to the door and looked out the peephole. Her mouth dropped open. She couldn’t believe it. She thought it would be a whole week before she heard from him. Ava unlocked the door quickly and opened it. “Trevor,&rdq
Joanna and Selena rode in the black sedan Sonny was driving. The car belonged to Rebecca. Sonny pulled up next to Bruce who was waiting at the beginning of the dock just like he had said he would be. The top of the dress was tight. Her breasts were smashed together and road high, showing prominent cleavage. Even though it looked good and her nipples were well covered by the silk slits in the sheer fabric, she was a little embarrassed by how much she was showing. After all, she was going to be in front of a minister in a few minutes.Bruce helped Joanna get out of the back of the sedan while Selena climbed out the other side. Joanna quickly made sure her dress was in order and the veil over her face was straight. Her hair was full of soft brushed out curls.“Are you ready?” Selena asked.“I suppose I
Christopher was the first one dressed for the nuptials that was going to happen in an hour and a half. He and Bruce had been on the phone with Lance Milton for an hour and a half drawing up Trevor’s prenup. It had to be a short document considering the situation, but they covered everything. In case of divorce, Joanna would get a twelve million dollar settlement and twenty-thousand dollars a month in child support until any children they had turn eighteen. Trevor signed the prenup while Bruce was in the bathroom showering a shaving. Christopher signed as one of the witnesses. Selena had gone to the main house to help Joanna get ready. She was going to get dressed in Joanna’s room. Trevor plopped down on the sofa. He had on a pair of beige slacks. He was bear c
Since the inn had a generator that only powered the kitchen they were able to eat a hot breakfast. Trevor figured his family wasn’t up yet since they weren’t at the dining table with him, Joanna, and nine other guests. Four of the guests were from cabins on the property.Rebecca and Horace were overjoyed about Trevor’s and Joanna’s decision to get married today and was willing to do whatever it took to make it happen. After breakfast, Rebecca and Horace brought Joanna and Trevor into the kitchen to discuss what they wanted for the wedding. Guests were all over the main house so the kitchen was the only place to have a quiet discussion. They had asked the middle-aged couple to not tell William if he called. They didn’t want anyone to know until they got back to New York. The innkeepers agreed. After discussing what they wanted for the wedding, Rebecca prepared breakfast sandwiches for Trevor to take to the Hudson cabin. He knew they didn&rs
Joanna was relieved and happier than the man on the moon. Trevor kissed her forehead. She couldn’t believe this was happening. For once in her life, she was totally and truly happy. “Darling,” he began as he pulled back a little. “I hate to spoil this moment, but I have to ask you.” “What?” she said with wide eyes. “What in the world did Whitney Bartholomew say to you that you believed that I had a PI follow you and then I was so furious, disgusted, and distraught about what was discovered that I raced over to her penthouse and proposed to Ava?” “Oh, Trevor,” Jo
Trevor felt like he was going insane. He paced the hallway like a man possessed. Christopher was sitting in a Victorian wooden chair in the hallway. Bruce was leaned against the wall looking morose. The damn dog had followed them upstairs for some reason. He sat a few inches away from Bruce, watching Trevor pace. This dog is nosy. Thank, God he can’t talk. If he could, he’d probably be the biggest gossip in town. “What in the world are they doing in there?” Trevor asked. “It hasn’t been that long really,” Bruce whispered. They were trying to be as quiet as they could. Several
Joanna entered her room as quickly as she could. She closed the door and locked it. She had half a mind to brace something against it. What was going on? Rebecca must have come in her room earlier because there was an oil lamp that was lit on the round table and a flashlight was next to it.Joanna started pacing, trying to get her mind to work – to make sense of what was going on and why? Someone knocked on the door. It could be Rebecca but . . . Trevor was fast. He probably was closer behind her coming up the steps than she had realized. “Joanna?” a woman said through the door. Well, at least it&r
