Xavier woke up feeling refreshed as if he was finally finding himself again after ages. Surprisingly, it was the fourth day without internet, and he was enjoying the forced detox, courtesy of Logan. He was happy, wearing shorts, sunglasses, and a splash of perfume. He even found himself singing along to his favorite song—a rarity for him.
Entering the dining hall for breakfast, he was momentarily startled by the noise of a kid. He turned, bracing himself for a possible encounter with the twins. To his relief, it wasn’t them.
However, as he looked around, Xavier spotted the wild twin siblings already causing chaos near the buffet tables, bickering over something that involved a lot of arm-waving and loud voices. His mood soured instantly. He considered making a hasty retreat, thinking that perhaps it would be wiser to skip breakfast and avoid the dining hall altogether.
Just as he was about to turn on his heel, a woman approached him with a warm, inviting smile.
“Hey,” she greeted him. “I just wanted to apologize for the behavior of my kids.” She gestured toward the twins, who were standing a short distance away, engrossed in their antics.
Xavier glanced over at the children, then back at her, noting the embarrassment on her face. “Oh, these are your kids?” he asked, a hint of frustration in his voice. “They are a mess.”
The woman smiled softly, her eyes twinkling with empathy. “Yes, they can be quite a handful, but that’s the essence of childhood, isn’t it? Their energy and mischief are part of the fun.”
Xavier raised an eyebrow, a wry smile tugging at his lips. “I suppose that’s one way to look at it. I’m not exactly used to being around kids, so their antics were a bit jarring. I might have overreacted a bit.”
“No need to be hard on yourself,” she said gently. “Kids can be overwhelming, especially when you’re not used to their energy. But please, join me for breakfast. Let me make up for their mischief and offer you a more peaceful start to the day.”
Xavier hesitated, the tension of the morning still lingering. But her sincere offer and the warmth in her voice made it hard to refuse. After a brief pause, he nodded, a small smile breaking through his earlier frustration. “All right, I’ll take you up on that.”
“Great!” she said warmly. “I appreciate your understanding.”
As they walked toward the breakfast table, Xavier couldn't help but feel a bit more at ease. The woman's genuine tone and the thought of starting the day on a better note helped shift his perspective.
“I’m Leila, and these two are my niece and nephew, Alana and Zane,” the lady said with a warm smile while starting the breakfast. “But to me, they’re like my own children. I love them just the same.”
“Hmm,” Xavier replied, then added, “I’m Xavier Donovan. You must be traveling with their parents, then?”
Leila shook her head as she started to prepare her breakfast, pouring juice into a glass and slicing fresh fruit. “No, they don’t have their parents around. They were unfortunate not to have the love of their mother and father from the start.” She looked down with a hint of sadness in her eyes.
Xavier’s expression softened. “I’m sorry to hear that.”
Leila offered a reassuring smile as she placed a plate of fruit in front of him. “But they’re my family, just as I am everything to them.”
While holding a glass of juice, Xavier looked around, noticing that the twins were nowhere in sight.
“Where are they?” he asked, a hint of concern in his voice.
Leila glanced at him, her lips curling into a chuckle. “You seem to be quite wary of them,” she said with a playful smile.
Xavier raised both hands in a gesture of mock surrender. “Yes, they’ve got me a bit on edge. I admit, I’m not exactly equipped to handle their energy and mischief,” he said with a laugh, his tone light and self-deprecating.
Leila sighed, her eyes sparkling with affection. “Don’t worry… they’ve gone to our room to play a game, so you’re safe now,” she said with a teasing smile, guiding Xavier toward the buffet table.
“That sounds good,” Xavier replied with a smile as he grabbed a plate.
“You didn’t tell me—how did you end up on this ship?” Leila asked, placing a pancake on her plate and drizzling honey syrup over it.
“My buddy-turned-therapist, Logan, convinced me to take a break from work. I guess I really needed it,” Xavier said, speaking slowly.
“He was right… sometimes a break is exactly what you need,” Leila agreed, nodding thoughtfully.
Xavier felt a pang of curiosity about why he couldn’t shake the feeling that he’d seen her before, but he let it go and continued chatting with her about random topics.
After breakfast, he headed back to his room to get dressed. As he opened the door, he was greeted with a surprise: Tina was sitting on his bed, her legs crossed and a sly smile on her lips.
Xavier froze in his tracks. “Tina? What… how did you get in here?”
Tina’s grin widened and she said, “Your nephew and niece let me in… they were so sweet and I told them we are friends.”
“My nephew and niece?” Xavier asked in a tone full of shock.
“I don’t have any…” Xavier was about to tell Tina that he didn’t have any nephews and nieces, but suddenly something struck his mind and he became silent midway.
“The twins?” Xavier thought silently.
“Did they open the door of my room? But how do they do it?” Xavier thought again.
He didn’t understand, why were those twin siblings constantly trying to irritate him. They seemed to be everywhere, and now, apparently, letting strangers into his room.
He rubbed his temples, and said, “Tina, You shouldn’t be here.” He said again.
Tina stood and walked toward him, her eyes glinting with a sultry, intense desire.
“Why not, Xavier? Last night, we were having a good time, weren’t we? And then you left me midway…. So, I came to finish the undone thing.” She reached out, running a finger down his chest.
He wanted to tell her to leave, but as he looked into her eyes, her beauty seemed to soften his resolve.
Without thinking, he pulled her close, kissing her again. For a moment, the tension in his body melted, and he let himself get lost in the warmth of her touch. Both Tina and Xavier were about to flow at the moment and get more intimate, when, a bright flash made them, stop and look toward the flash.
“We took a picture!”
They saw on the doorstep, that twin siblings were standing and grinning mischievously, and one of them holding up a phone.
Xavier’s heart sank because the situation was spiraling out of control.
“Go and catch them!” Tina said, shoving Xavier toward the door.Xavier realized he had to catch the twins quickly. He needed to get the photos deleted before they accidentally or intentionally ended up on social media. The last thing he needed was a scandal that could ruin not just his reputation but the entire Donovan family’s name. He could already imagine the headlines—disgrace, scandal, humiliation.“Wait! Stop right now!” Xavier shouted, his voice a mix of desperation and anger. The twins ignored him and continued racing toward their cabin. After a frantic chase, Xavier finally caught up as they slipped into their cabin. He lunged forward and grabbed the door before it could close.“Xavier? What’s going on?” Leila, standing in the middle of her cabin, looked at the breathless Xavier with surprise.Ignoring Leila’s question, Xavier fixed his glare on the twins and said, “Your niece and nephew just took some very inappropriate photos of me. I need that phone. Now.”Leila’s expressio
Xavier reclined on the sun lounger, soaking in the warmth of the sun. He glanced over at Bella, who was applying sunscreen to her legs in a two-piece bikini. Bella looked up, a curious expression on her face, and asked, “Where’s Tina? I thought you two were inseparable.”Xavier tilted his head and continued, “If you’re her friend, I figured you’d have a better idea of where she is. I just met her a couple of days ago.”Bella looked at Xavier with a playful smirk and asked, “Why do you always focus so much on Tina? There are plenty of people around who might offer you something even better. Why not give them a chance?”Xavier raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement in his eyes. He chuckled and replied, “Well, if someone’s name starts with a ‘B’ and they’re wearing a flowery bikini, I’d have to say I’m all in.”Bella’s smile widened, her eyes sparkling with mischief as she tilted her head, the sun catching her sun-kissed skin. She leaned closer, her voice dropping to a seductive whisper,
Tina burst into the cabin like a storm, eyes narrowing as she took in the scene.Xavier, his shirt hanging open, belt unbuckled, stood there looking like a deer caught in headlights. Bella, panic written all over her face, was frantically trying to wrap the bed sheet around herself, but the more she pulled, the more it slipped, leaving her looking like she was fighting with a curtain.“Well, isn’t this just perfect,” Tina said, her voice cold and dripping with sarcasm. “Xavier, seriously? Bella?”Bella shot Xavier a desperate look. “I told you to lock the damn door!”Xavier, flustered and half-dressed, waved his hands in surrender. “I didn’t think the twins would just barge in—”Xavier snapped his attention to the twins, who were giggling like it was the best prank they’d ever pulled. “What are you two doing in here? This isn’t a game room!” He pointed at the door, trying to regain some control. The twins just grinned wider and, with one final look at their handiwork, bolted out of the
“Xavier!” Bella hissed, her voice shaking with frustration. “Why didn’t you lock the door?”Xavier looked up, his relaxed expression turning to confusion.“Why do you keep going on about it, Bella?”“You’re such an idiot sometimes!” she snapped, crossing her arms tightly over her chest.“We were—” She cut herself off, blushing harder. “We were having sex, and you left the door unlocked.”Xavier’s jaw clenched. Her sharp tone sliced through the room, and he felt his anger start to rise.“If I forgot to lock it,” he said coldly, “then why didn’t you lock it?”Bella’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Are you serious right now? You expect me to be thinking about locking the door when you’re the one who’s supposed to handle stuff like that?”Xavier stood up abruptly, temper flaring. “Oh, so now it’s all on me? You could’ve locked it just as easily. Why are you acting so helpless?”“Because of you, I had to face that humiliating situation!” Bella shot back, her voice growing louder.“You left th
Xavier glanced at his phone and saw Logan’s message flash across the screen."Where the hell are you, man?"With a heavy sigh, Xavier dialed Logan back. It didn’t even take two rings before Logan answered.“Finally! I’ve been trying to reach you for hours!” Logan’s voice was a mix of concern and exasperation.Xavier got up from his bed and flopped down onto the sofa, rubbing his temples. “Yeah, I know. I’ve been… occupied.” He let out a sigh, trying to shake off the stress.“Occupied? Dude, you’re supposed to be relaxing. I didn’t force you onto this cruise just so you could stress out over more stuff. You need a break.”Xavier let out a half-laugh, half-groan. “Well, it hasn’t exactly been the stress-free escape you promised. It’s a mess here.”Logan’s voice softened, shifting into his professional tone. “Okay, what happened? You sound like someone just told you the pool bar ran out of rum.”Xavier sat up, running his hand through his hair. “I invited this girl, Bella, to my room. We
“I don’t know how I’ll manage ten days without my laptop and the internet,” Xavier muttered to himself, stepping onto the cruise ship. His custom-made Italian leather shoes, polished to a high gloss, clicked against the gleaming deck.'But you’ve got to do this, Xavier. For your health. No more sleeping pills.' He kept up a steady stream of self-talk as he walked, eyes scanning the horizon. 'You can handle this. Just ten days. No screens, no stress. Focus on the here and now.'Xavier had argued with his psychiatrist and childhood friend, Dr. Logan Pierce, suggesting he’d be better off on a private yacht where he could stay isolated. But Dr. Pierce had insisted that Xavier needed the social environment of a cruise. Xavier couldn’t understand why. To him, isolation was a luxury all its own, and he could afford the best—Ferraris, personal jets, everything money could buy.The ship’s deck stretched out before him in a stunning sweep of blue. The sky was a wide, clear canvas, with only a f
Another girl giggled, “Guess we’ve got ourselves a new pool toy.”Xavier’s eyes narrowed as he shot a glare at the girl who’d spoken. He then looked down at his drenched, perfectly tailored suit, frustration etched clearly on his face. The fabric clung uncomfortably to him, and he felt the chill of the water seeping through. One of the bikini-clad girls swam closer, her eyes wide with a mix of surprise and amusement."Are you... okay?" she asked, biting her lip to keep from laughing. Her concern was undercut by the playful sparkle in her eyes.Another girl added from behind, "You know, you wear wet really well." Her tone was teasing, adding to Xavier’s growing irritation.Xavier gritted his teeth, ignoring the playful comments as he focused on getting out of the pool. "Fantastic," he muttered under his breath, clearly unimpressed by the spectacle he’d become.Xavier’s jaw tightened. His first instinct was to snap back, but as he glanced around, he saw the boy standing at the edge of t
Xavier stepped out onto the deck, the morning air crisp against his skin as the horizon stretched before him, bathed in shades of gold and pink. The soft light danced on the waves, creating a serene, picture-perfect morning.Yet, despite the beauty of the scene, Xavier remained unmoved.‘I shouldn’t have listened to Logan,’ Xavier thought bitterly as he gripped the railing, inhaling the fresh sea breeze. He wasn’t expecting much from this trip—it was a forced break, thrust upon him by his well-meaning friend. But already, it felt like a prison, surrounded by everything he loathed—families, kids, noise."What am I even doing here?" he muttered to himself, shaking his head. But as much as he hated to admit it, last night had been the first real sleep he’d had in weeks. Without the sleeping pills he’d grown dependent on, he’d slept through the night. ‘Maybe it was the spa,’ he thought, his mind wandering.“Hey… how’s it going?” A warm, inviting voice broke through his thoughts. He turned
