I see Claire almost cowering in a corner as I step inside to see what was taking the girls so long. She was standing in a corner, holding her belly and seemed out of breath. I ask her if she’s okay and drop the bags to hold her. The only thing I thought that would help.“Did someone threaten you?” I ask as I look around us.“Can we go home?” She asks in a squeak as she clings to my chest, burying her face.“Of course. Let’s just get Jas. Okay?” What happened to her? We walk to the front, Claire on my right as I hold a protective arm around her shoulders and a mountain of bags in my left hand. Jas comes bouncing over.“They have it. I’ve already paid and it’ll be delivered later today!” She drops her enthusiasm as she takes a look at Claire.“Claire?” She looks just as concerned as I did.“Claire wants to go home.” I say strictly.“Okay, let’s go.” Jas stand at her other side and locks arms with her as we walk out of the store. We make it to my car and I help Claire in before putting t
I get a text stating that something had happened to Claire. What I didn’t understand was how. I had sent an undercover officer to monitor her and ensure her safety. I rush to Jasmine’s house hoping to find Claire is okay. Leo would never forgive me if something were to happen to her and I could never forgive myself if something happened to her boys. I rush to the house and find Claire shell-shocked and disassociated. I watch her movements carefully as we eat. Claire finishes her food and pull a small juice bottle from my pocket and hand it to her. She takes it with a shaky hand and offers me a small smile as I help her in opening it. She takes a drink and set it in the living room table before returning her gaze to me.“Claire, are you okay?” I ask her gently. I could tell how fragile she is and I don’t want to scare her.“I-I met a woman today. Sh-she said she knew Charlotte.” She says as she fiddles with the Velcro on her splint.“Did she threaten you?” I ask carefully.“No.” She n
I’ve kept myself busy at work after what happened with Charlotte. I just can’t wrap my head around her disheveled appearance or her manic behavior. Did I really do this to her? I walk back to my office after a very big meeting for an upcoming contract when I hear my phone ring. It was Mason.“Is everything alright?” I ask quickly as I answer. With Charlotte being on a psych hold, I didn’t expect to hear from Mason for a few days.“We may have another issue.” “What is it? Did something happen to my boys?” The anxiety quickly sets in as I wait for a response.“No. Something’s happened to Claire.” My body freezes and I feel a jolt of electricity race through my spine.“Where is she?!” I hear my voice raise in anger.“She’s at Jasmine’s house. She was out shopping for baby items today when she met a woman that goes by the name Julia.”“Julia? Charlotte doesn’t know a Julia.” I reply as I try to piece things together in my head.“That’s the thing. She doesn’t know Julia but Julia is very

Julia was everything I had wanted and now she holds my son. My heir and she doesn’t like competition.“Enzo.” I call to my henchman. I could use another perspective.“Yes boss?”“You see the dilemma I’m in. What would you do?” I muse as I sit back on the couch.“I would pick Julia. She is a woman of power and strength and holds the heir to both our empires.”“Interesting. And what about Charlotte?”“She’s proven troublesome. I’d have her killed but being she could face prison, I’d want her to suffer long-term as well.” “A good point.” I pull the phone from my pocket and decide to call Julia.“Mon Amour, I’d love a m
At 3 AM, I had awoken to the ringing of a phone, rustling of the sheets and the thunder humming outside my bedroom window. It didn’t take long to recognize the ringtone I heard and understand what was happening in that moment. That was Charlotte’s ringtone. Charlotte was my husband Leonardo’s childhood sweetheart, and she had made a habit of calling my husband to her side at every opportunity even in the most impromptu hours of the night. And Leo had made a habit of being completely available after every call - explaining why he had personalized her ringtone in the first place. I listen at his side silently, waiting for the moment he would refuse to run to her side. A wishful thought I knew would never come to fruition. “Don't cry, I'll be there soon." After a few simple words, Leo quickly got up and prepared to go out. He hadn’t noticed I had been listening or conscious at the moment. “Are you leaving?” I say through a yawn. Being pregnant made me especially tire
I turned white at the thought of my husband in bed with another woman. Especially this one. “Are you sleeping in the same bed?” I knew Leo saw to her personally but sleeping in the same bed was past unacceptable. It was out of line.“Don’t blame him, Claire. He was just so tired after caring for me last night.” She lets out a chuckle. Charlotte had no regard for me or my marriage and had taken every opportunity to make that clear. “Why are you calling again?” She asks as if I’m disturbing her although she answered my husband’s phone.“Please let Leo know that I’d like to meet him for dinner at that old restaurant we love when he wakes up.” I tried my best not to sound hurt as I tell her. It was my wedding anniversary, and he had run off to be with Charlotte once again. This time, even sleeping in her bed.“I’ll let him know. Happy Anniversary, Claire.” She muttered my name in disgust and reminded me of my anniversary just to mock me and remind me that on my anniversary, my husband ha
Charlotte saw me and began to smile but I knew the smile all too well. It’s a maniacal smile. “Oh, Claire is here.” She said this to make sure everyone knew that the unwanted guest she anticipated had arrived. A guest they can all share a common hatred for. I knew coming here wasn’t a good idea, but I had to speak to Leo. It was our anniversary, and I felt nothing short of abandoned along with our growing child inside me. As soon as she said this. I hear Leo’s mother chime in. “Who invited you?” She asks with a disgusted face as she places a protective hand on Charlotte’s shoulder. “I’m sorry to overturn your anniversary, Claire. I had some exciting news delivered today and Leonardo was just so excited to share it with everyone.” She said this in a sad innocent puppy expression, knowing it’d convince everyone in the room that I was not only an enemy and outsider but a jealous and insecure wife. It didn’t help that Leonardo stayed plastered to Charlotte’s side. No hesitation of
“Leo - “ I stop when I see Leo start to walk towards the door. I hurry and grab his arm. “I still have something to tell you.” Leo pulls his arm back and turns to me annoyed and rubbing the back of his neck as a symbol of him becoming aggravated.“I need to go help Charlotte. We can talk about whatever this is once we’re home.”“Please don’t go” I ask in the smallest voice, but Leo turns the doorknob and leaves the room muttering the cruelest of words.“Don’t put me in the position to choose” and without even a glance back at me - he exited. I didn’t get the chance to tell him about our baby. I stayed behind in the library for a few more minutes. The loneliness I felt reached further than the depth of this room. I wasn’t welcome here. I’m not wanted here. Even my husband doesn’t want me here. I should leave. So, I put every effort in calming myself before leaving the library. I then make my way from the library door to the foyer, hoping to escape without being seen or better yet - hu

It feels good to get out of the house and not be riddled with fear and paranoia as we walk the avenue - the biggest shopping center that runs boutiques for miles. We already found three baby boutiques and bought an abundance of boys clothes. As we find another one, Jas and I eagerly run inside with Nathan following behind. He was slower with all the bags but I appreciated his participation.“Claire, look! They have furniture here.” Jas pulls me in the direction of the cribs and bassinets before I was able to protest.“I don’t have a place to put any of those things yet.” I say as I touch the displays.“Nonsense. You can put them in the extra room at my house.”“Jas.” I hadn’t told her that I would be moving out at some point. “I think it’ll be safer you and Nathan if I move out once the babies are here.”“Move out? But I can make sure we’re all safe at the house. I don’t want you to be alone.” She puffs her cheeks out as she hears my plans.“I know, but it’s not fair to either of you.
I wake up early and head downstairs where I can smell an amazing breakfast brewing. I’m met in the hallway by Jas who seems to have woken from the same heavenly scents.“Wait, you’re not making breakfast?” She looks at me confusingly as I return the same glance back at her.“Jas, I can’t cook. I thought it was you.” I say with a shrug.“Well, I’m not that great of a host.” She shrugs as we both think and reach a moment of realization. Was Claire cooking? We rush down the stairs in unison to find Claire adorned with an apron that covers only the front of her pregnant belly as she takes some bacon off of the griddle. On the table, there is an array of foods. Waffles, pancakes, bacon, sausage, maple syrup and French toast. We watch in silence as we see her continue to pull food from the griddle and plate it. It isn’t until she tries to move the plates to the table that she notices us. She jumps for a moment and then lets out a small smile.“I didn’t know you were guys were standing there
I leave the hotel with more confusion than when I had arrived. Dalia had brought my ex-lover Julia. A woman I thought to be dead and she had brought her alive and well - carrying my son. I try making sense of it all as Enzo drives me back to the safe house to wait for the attorney to appear and collect payment.“Is everything alright, boss?” He asks as he drives.“No.” I respond blankly as I stare out the window, recounting what I had just witnessed.“I can go back alone and end this, if you’d like.” He offers as we continue driving.“No. No one is to touch Dalia without an order.” I say strongly.“What happened up there? I was almost certain you’d have killed her by now.” He asks.“She brought a gift for me. She brought her sister and my son.” I admit as we reach the house.“Julia’s alive?” He asks in shock. My men were aware of my relationship with her from the very beginning. An effort on my part to make sure she was also protected.“Yes. I saw her.” “We have an heir.” He smiles a
Tick. Tick. Tick.I watch the clock on the wall strikes an hour since my arrival and I’m thankful for the ticking of the hands being the only noise in my roomWhy would Leo put me here? I’m not crazy. Claire is the problem. I curl my knees up to my chest and hug them tightly as I sit in the luminous lighting against the cold wall touching my bed.“I have to get out of here.” I whisper to myself as if someone would even hear me.“You can leave these walls but I will never leave your side.” I hear the echo of my mother’s voice.“What the hell do you want from me? You’re dead. You’ve been dead.” I say in snarky tone as I look into her cold eyes. She stood at the end of my bed.“I want you to confess.” She says gravely.“What would I have to confess?” “That you killed your own mother.” “I’m not doing that.” The memory of a corpse was not going to convince me to confess to killing my mother. I turn away from her and face the wall as I lay down. “You don’t exist. You’re just a figment of
It’s late when I get a call from Chief Commissioner Mason.“Sorry to bother you, but I have some news. If it alright if I stop by?”“Of course.” I reply as I get up and wait for the front door bell. It had to be important if Mason was stopping by at this hour. Did something happen to Leo?I open the door the moment it rings and I see Mason waiting, I motion for him to come in and lock the door behind him. We walk over to the living room and sit down.“I didn’t bring juice this time since it’s late. But I did bring you a fruit cup.” He holds it out for me and I smile softly as I take it.“You’re lucky it’s close to juice.” He lefts out a small laugh at my response. “What’s going on?” “Well I got a call from Leo just an hour ago.”“Is he alright?” I interrupt.“Yes. Charlotte was in sort of manic episode and refused to leave his house. She threatened to kill you.” I catch my breath in my throat and feel a knot forming in my stomach.“W-why? I left Leo alone.” I stutter as I feel my bod
