Alora's POV

The entire room settled into another round of silence. Unlike the previous time, I actually seemed to have the upper hand here, and I wasn't exactly sure how I felt about it.

For the first couple of minutes, I was led to think that, somehow, the world had actually frozen over. Eliaz and Cynthia stood rooted to their spots, none of them moving. I stared at Eliaz and the only thing his handsome face betrayed was an unhealthy amount of shock. His eyebrows were knit together and his lips parted in a semi-circle, yet no words slid past.

Cynthia on the other hand, had her eyes trained on me, or more specifically, my belly. Whether she was just so shocked she had to confirm I was telling the truth, or she thought I was trying to pull her legs and she was trying to find some kind of loophole that would contradict my story, I wasn't exactly sure. If there was one thing I could bet my life on though, she hadn't seen the news coming. At all.

“What?” Eliaz finally mustered up the courage to speak. It was more of a gasp than anything else, but I'd heard him regardless. “What did you just say?”

Something about the way he stared at me didn't exactly sit right with me, so I kept quiet.

Was he going to get more angry if I answered his question? What if…..

“Alora.” The sound of my name on Eliaz’s lips was all it took to pull me out of my thoughts again. “Did you hear me? Tell me the truth. Dont lie. Are you really serious?”

“Yes.” My voice shook, but it didn't matter because I was telling the truth. As I confirmed my answer, I watched a flicker of doubt in Eliaz's eyes, so I did the right thing. “Here.”

From the back of my pocket, I pulled out a folded sheet of paper. It was a bit crumpled thanks to everything going on, but I was sure it was clear enough to be read by anyone.

Without thinking, I stretched the paper out for him to get a hold of. I meant it when I said I was going to tell him about it after I was back from the cemetery.

My heart leaped to my throat as Eliaz read through. Cynthia did too, and if there was anything I could deduce from their wide eyes, it was the fact that they had seen I wasn't lying.

“Alora,” Eliaz called out after a while. Unlike the last time, his voice was more softer and his hard glare had melted significantly. “I'm so sorry my love.”

“Eliaz….”

“I'm sorry.” Eliaz cut me off. “All of this was a prank. If I had known sooner, I wouldn't have taken it this far.”

I almost didn't believe it, but one smile from the handsome man in front of me was all it took for me to relax. I knew all that had happened couldn't be true. Eliaz was a prankster and just like he'd said, he had taken his prank a little bit too far.

“Are you sure?” My heart swelled with a little bit of hope. “You didn't mean it?”

“No, my love.” He shook his head slowly. “You don't need any of this, especially in this condition. I'm sorry, I had no idea. Please forgive me.”

“Come on.” He added and My smile widened at his words. Carefully, Eliaz helped me to my feet, before continuing. “Let's get you cleaned up so you can settle in again.”

Eliaz flashed me a wide smile, and that was all the assurance I needed. Perhaps, if I had known what he had planned for me, I wouldn't have returned his kind gesture.

*************

“You Really didn't have to do this.” I said with a smile as she dropped the plate in front of me. “This is too much.”

“Nonsense.” Cynthia waved me off with her hand. “Nothing is too much for you. You're pregnant and you need all the rest and nutrition you can get, especially in the early stages.”

“She's right, you know.” Eliaz waltzed in from the kitchen, an even brighter grin on his face. He had an apron wrapped around his waist and I just knew what he had been up to. “If you had told me earlier, I would have started whipping up meals for you right from your very first scan.”

Eliaz and Cynthia had woken me up for breakfast early this morning. Even though we had cleared out the misunderstanding the previous day, I was genuinely surprised that they had pulled up something as thoughtful as this.

“No, this is too much.” I shook my head slowly. ‘you really didn't have to. I can count about four of my favorite meals on the table.”

“We originally planned on making it six.” Eliaz said with a wide grin. “So eat up.”

As if to solidify Eliza's request, Cynthia set a tall glass next to me. It contained my favorite: orange juice and I couldn't help but smile.

Just as they settled into their seats, I dug into my meal. With each mouthful I took, I watched the duo stare at me. They barely touched their own servings, and just as I was about to ask why, something cut me off.

A sharp pain popped up in my lower belly, and I let out a shrill cry. The two were startled, but before they could react, I let out another shrill cry.

“Alora.” Eliaz was on his feet immediately. “Are you okay? What's wrong?”

“I…” The rest of my words hung in my throat as another wave of pain rolled over me. It was sharp and horrible, I found myself toppling to the ground. My hands wrapped around my stomach, but no matter how hard I pressed against it, it did nothing to alleviate the pain threatening to knock me out cold. “Please. Help.”

A wave of shock courses through me as something pooled around me. It took a while, but the moment its metallic scent hit my nose, I froze.

Blood. I was bleeding.

“Awww, she's bleeding.” Cynthia cooed beside me. I raised my head in time just to see a sly smirk on her face. “Can you see that Eliaz?”

“Please.” I couldn't breathe. “I need to go to the hospital….”

“No, you just need more juice.” Goosebumps raced down my spine at the sight of Eliza's evil grin. “Have some.”

The juice. They'd spiked my drink.

“What's going on?” I couldn't help but ask. I was in pain and they were just standing there? “Please, help..”

“Do you really think we'll do that?” He cut me off. “I knew you were stupid Alora, but I didn't expect you to be this dumb. How could you eat anything after what happened yesterday? Did you really believe it was a prank?”

His words echoed loudly in my head, and I just knew I'd made the biggest mistake of my life.

“In case you're wondering,” Cynthia spoke up. “We added a couple of pills to your drink. We're just helping you get rid of that monster in your belly.”

“Why?” My eyes glistened with tears, but I wasn't sure if they were from the pain I was in, or the betrayal tugging at my chest. “What did I do to deserve this? Please, just get me to the hospital….”

“You haven't signed this remember?” Eliaz pulled out a paper in front of me. “I want a divorce, all of your properties and I want it now!”

I could hear the anger in his voice and I just knew it was a lost cause trying to plead with him. Just like he'd said, he wasn't going to let me go unless I did as he asked.

Without a care in the world, Eliaz shoved a pen in my grip. I hung on to it for my dear life as I signed on the designated spot. I knew what I had signed up for, but I was out of options at this point.

The moment Eliaz pulled the papers out of my grip, I pressed my eyes shut, and it didn't take too long for the cold hands of unconsciousness to take hold of me.

Alora's POV A small groan slid past my lips as I stirred awake. I had my eyes pressed close, but it did nothing to numb the pain that spread through my body. My groans intensified as the pain shot up my spine, before traveling to every other part of my body. As gently as I could, I turned to my side, but it did nothing to help. If anything, if worsened the pain by a ten time margin. My insides twisted and burned, and for a moment, I briefly wondered why I had regained consciousness. I was better off dead than feeling the way I felt. Nothing could compare to this, I was sure. I had barely come to that conclusion when a thought popped up in my mind. The mere thought of it was gruesome to the extent that I had goosebumps just thinking about it. “What did you think?” The words echoed loudly in my head. “Juice, you should take some more juice.”’No. I shook my head. I didn't want to believe that all of that had happened. There was just no way……“Ma'am.” Someone's hand pressed aga

005 Alora's POV The drive home was silent. Even inside the car, all that could be heard was the soft whir of the engine revving and signaling that everything was in good condition. Well, everything except my mind that is. My mind was a mess, and a million and one thoughts ran past, all at once. Sometimes, I used to wonder how human beings developed mental issues and went crazy right off the bat or when you least expected it. Now, I understood it clearly, and if I didn't get a hold of myself as soon as possible, I could be very well on my way to craze town. I sighed, but it did nothing to calm my nerves. My thoughts were all over the place, and no matter how many breathing exercises I tried and how hard I tried to push away the many thoughts roaming my mind, they came back. Every single time. I didn't mean to remember the events that led up to this moment, but the second I pressed my eyes shut, they came rushing at me. I knew the world was cruel, and most times bad things

006Fredrick's POV I had messed up, and all the confirmation I needed was right in front of me. If the anger in Alora's eyes could easily be translated into anything, it meant I was in trouble. When I had driven back to the city, I already had a plan, and believe me when I said Alora was no part of it. All I wanted to do was go in for my monthly checkup before heading out and putting things in order for the next step. If I had known that the footsteps and mumblings I'd heard from the rooftop belonged to Alora, then the tendency to have walked away would have been higher. “Fredrick.” She snapped, pulling me back to the present. Her eyes were still trained on me, and it wasn't a pleasant experience. “I believe I asked you a question.”There was more anger than hurt in her voice and I understood perfectly well. Just when things were going on well between us, I disappeared. “Alora, I….” She cut me off immediately. “The truth. Now.”“Fine.” I huffed. I ran my hand through my hair a

Five Years Later Alora's POV If there was anything I'd missed from my time away from New York, it just had to be the dazzling lights that lit up the streets at night. With the strips of red, blue and green neon lights flashing around, you could easily start a dance floor right in the middle of the street. All you needed to compliment it was some music. “Are you okay, Alora?” Someone's voice by my side was all it took to pull me out of my thoughts. I turned to my side, just to see a familiar face staring at me, a small smile on his face. “You look deep in thought.”“I'm fine, Fredrick.” I nodded once. “I was only reminiscing.” While the nostalgia that came with being back in town again were nothing short of bitter sweet, I knew there was some part of this town that had the power to turn my mood from a huvdred to zero in a matter of seconds. Not memories exactly, but more specifically; people. “The good old days?” Fredrick chipped in. “Darling.” I purred. “The best is

008Alora's POV I never believed the saying revenge was a dish best served cold , until now, and I didn't regret it. Not one bit. Before this moment, I always replayed it, over and over in my head, just how Cynthia and Eliaz were going to react when they eventually saw me again. I had made a habit of imagining the shock on their faces, but nothing could compare to this moment. Absolutely nothing. If it wasn't so dark, I would have taken a picture, just for reference. A couple of minutes had passed and the crowd was still in shock, which was exactly what I wanted. Slowly, like the veil had been lifted from their eyes, lone claps started resonating from different parts of the hall. The applause started out weak and scanty, but in a matter of seconds, it spread all round. With each high octane the claps reached, I couldn't help but feel all the more proud of myself. This was just one of many victories. “Let's welcome miss Alora to the stage please.” I took that as my sign to

Eliaz's POV Life could be a bitch, but I never really understood that concept until now. Or more specifically, a couple of minutes ago. Growing up, I'd always heard stories or people say you had to be careful of how you treated other people. As usual, I saw it as total bullshit, but now, I wasn't so sure anymore. My agenda for tonight had been very simple; come to the auction, bid the highest and win the contract for the company. I'd been looking forward to this all year, and I had made plans, set certain things place just so I could get it, and just while I was on the verge of success, the unexpected happened. Alora. If someone has walked up to me and told her that I was going to bump into her again, I would have laughed my head off. Or more specifically, I would have perceived them as a beggar and handed them a couple of dollars for the night. Alora was dead, so how the fuck was she able to not only show up here, but win the contract too? “Eliaz.” Cynthia's angry grunt c

Alora's POV I should have known nothing good would have come out of it. I had opened my mind to the possibility of anything happening tonight, but what u didn't see coming, was Eliaz actually approaching me. What in the world? Eliaz had a track record of being audacious and I couldn't believe there was a point in my life where I found it dashing. I was completely enamoured by the fact that he went for whoever and whatever he wanted, but right now, I couldn't be more disgusted. “If you keep your face like that for so long “ Fredrick spoke beside me, his voice pulling me out of my thoughts. “I'm afraid your face just might freeze.” I threw him a hard glare and he raised his hands in moxj surrender. I knew it was a light jab at trying to make laugh or at least crack a smile, but it was worthless, completely useless. .“Bad joke?” He let out and I sighed. “I'm sorry, I was just trying to cheer you up.”.He was, and that had to be the sweetest thing ever. It was Eliaz’s fault t

Fredrick's POV It stung, and I wasn't even going to try to deny it. The meal sitting in front of me had lost its taste a long time ago, but I still forced myself to swallow it, spoonful after spoonful. Why? Because it was Alora's favourite and I didn't want anything that was going to sour her mood. As she slowly picked at the plate in front of her, I couldn't help but feel like her mood had already been ruined, and by no one else asides me. Shit. I was a fool, and I'd only confirmed it this evening.Even a toddler would be able to see how happy I was to see alora on stage a couple of hours ago. She looked regal, right from the moment she got into her designated seat, the moment she outbid Eliaz and the moment she was called to receive the contract. Everything had been planned down to the last detail. My highlight of the night had to be the shocked look on Eliaz's face when Alora was announced the winner. My feet was this close to giving way, and while crouching sounded like a good idea, it was a risk I wasn't exactly willing to take. Stay strong, Alora. I muttered more to myself than anybody else. You can do this. I'd been muttering that for a while now, but frankly, I wasn't sure i really believed it. I was exhausted. I wanted to run back to the comfort of my car, but I knew I couldn't do that. If I did, how was I going to see just what that sneaky Eliaz was up to? He'd been in the bar for the past hour now, I knew because I took record of when he'd first walked in, and he was yet to come out. I had no idea what he was even doing in there. Did he come with someone? Was he waiting for someone?.A million and one questions ran through my head, but the more I asked myself, the more confused I got

087Alora's POV I'd messed up, and Ethan's smirk grin wasn't the only indication I was getting. I felt it all around me. Up until now, it felt like I was under some kind of spell. Well, maybe that depiction wasn't exactly correct, but I'd allowed my anger and desperation to get to me, and now, I'd just shot myself in the foot. Ethan wasn't supposed to know what I'd just told him. My business was strictly meant for the court and the court only, but now, I'd just gone to spill to him, that the potential evidence I had was nowhere to be found. Way to go Alora, fucking way to go. “Can't got your tongue miss?” He called out to me. “I've never taken you to be the quiet type, but I guess it's true what the saying says; situation changes people, a lot. It's so sad to see that this is what you've been reduced to.”“I haven't been reduced to anything and you know it.” I shot back. “I'm simply just in a bad spot and…”“You've been in a bad spot since I knew you, Alora.” He cut me off.

In fact, it was forever because I had waited a long time, and by the time Ethan waltzed into the empty seat behind his desk that waa supposed to be his, it waa safe to say that he had wasted approximately two hours, if I wasn't mistaken. My eyes trailed the physique of his back as he took his sweet time getting to his chair. Like that wasn't enough, he even made a show of finally settling down. “Are you going to romanticize picking up the pens littered on your desk now?” The question had caught him off guard, but he was quick to gather the hens of his composure again. “Or are you finally going to realize that you're wasting both your time and mine?!”“Me?” He gasped slightly, but I didn't miss the skeleton of a smile making its way across his lips. “Is that what you really think? 085Alora's POV Was I crazy? Well, we were about to find out. This wasn't going to be the first time I would think I was a little mental upstairs. I mean, if so many people had told me that, I liked to think it was true, even if it was only by a fraction. I used to get mad when I heard the word crazy being used to describe me. It ticked me off in most ways, but not anymore. Instead of always getting upset over it and all the time, I trained myself to see it as a compliment somehow and use it to better myself. If you thought about it, it was better to be referred to as the crazy lady, or crazy Laura rather than being pitied whenever your name came up. If they all thought I'd been crazy all this while, then they were about to get the biggest shock of their lives. For the second time, and more than I would actually like, I drummed my fingers against the steering wheel, anxiously waiting for the lights to turn green. It was almost the same scenario as this morning, the only diffe

084Alora's POV No. There was no way this was happening. I'd lost count of the number of times I'd said that since my move back to Los Angeles and while I could swear that the previous time I'd said that would be the last, my life has a funny way of rubbing it in my face. Over and over again. It was one thing to be hopeless, and another thing to have no sight of things turning around for you, but you still decide to hold on to that tiny piece of faith, that somehow, something good would come out of it. In case, you were doubting the latter was worse, because if life decided to pull out the rug from under your feet, then you were going to fall, hard. My ears buzzed, and even though Laura's voice echoed in my head, I refused to believe that what she'd said was true. “They're gone.” Her words swarm all around me. “The messages are gone.” While I was in prison and especially after my conversation with Laura, that was the only thing I could think about. Those messages. I knew

083Alora's POV One would think that at this point, and with everything I've been through, I would have gotten used to it by now. But no matter how much shit I've been through, I like to think that's the last. That doesn't necessarily work, and the phone call I received last night, was all the proof I needed in the world to finally understand that. I drummed my fingernails against the surface of my steering wheel. An unruly rhythm reached my ears, but I tuned them out the moment they got closer to my earlobe. On the outside, horns blared and honked at the traffic light that had been stuck at the red light for the past thirty minutes. At this point, I was beginning to think it might be a malfunction, because I had no idea what was causing the holdup. The zebra crossing in front of me was as empty as could be, so why wasn't the light changing? I sighed. If anything, it gave me some time to think. I'd sworn I wasn't going to do that too often, but life obviously had other plans

082Alora's POV I had no idea which was weird, the entire moments that led up to me fainting and waking up in the hospital, or Fredrick's weird energy. If I was being honest though, I would say it was Fredrick. I watched him from the windows in the living room as his car pulled out of the compound. I wasn't sure why, but his departure just didn't sit right with me. It sounded weird, and funny in a way. My mind went in a million directions, and so many thoughts crowded my head, but no matter how frazzled my brain was, my uncertainty didn't hint at the fact that he was probably cheating on me. It didn't. At all. For most women, that would be their first thought, but not for me. Fredrick wasn't that type of man, and he never would be. But at the same time, he had never been the kind to keep something from me. It was pretty obvious at this point. Usually, whenever he saw I was in a bad mood, he would do everything in his power to cheer me up. But throughout the drive home, he'

I wanted to speak, to try and ease out the tension that brewed in the car, but no matter how hard I tried or wanted to, I just couldn't bring myself to do anything. It just didn't feel right. I let out a sigh. I'd been doing that for the past couple of minutes now, but Alora didn't seem to complain. In fact, she hadn't reacted to anything I'd done and I would be lying if I said it didn't bother me. I snuck a glance at the woman in question. She had her head tilted towards the window, with her eyes trained on the scenery whizzing past. I knew Alora well enough to know that she wasn't staring at anything. She was looking at it, but she couldn't see anything. Even after Eliaz had left the ward, the tension that once brewed between the three of us didnt just go away. I couldn't believe my ears or eyes. The entire scenario replayed itself over and over again in my mind, but no matter how many times it did that, I just couldn't make any sense out of it. At all. “Not only do you want me to pull out from the real estate contract and everything that has to do with it, you want me to sign off a percentage of my company to you?” They were my own words, but somehow, I wanted to believe that I had a mistake. That Eliaz hadn't really just offered that bullshit as a way to help me. My eyes snapped back to the man in question. He had a sickly smile on his face and I wanted nothing more than to wipe it off his face with a slap.At first, I was worried about his threat of not leaving till he got what he wanted, but now I was just plain mad at his audacity and stupidity combined. “Get out.
