"Come sit," I told Clara, gesturing toward the table. "I just finished cooking."

She raised an eyebrow, a bit surprised but followed me anyway.

I pulled out a chair for her, trying to shake off the strange feeling that was still lingering from Vivian’s sudden text.

As Clara sat, I began to serve the food.

Despite being half-burned, it was salvageable. I served her a portion, offering a faint smile.

“I hope you’re hungry.”

Clara looked at the food, her eyebrows furrowing in curiosity. "You cook?"

"Yeah," I shrugged, handing her a fork. "Gotta eat somehow, right?"

She laughed, but it was a soft, nervous laugh.

I could tell she wasn’t fully comfortable, likely as confused about all of this as I was.

Clara hesitated for a moment, but then she took a bite.

Her eyes widened slightly as she chewed, the tension from earlier lifting just a bit.

“This is... actually really good,” she said, sounding almost surprised.

I chuckled, leaning back in my chair. “Thanks. Thought I might’v

JACK I woke up to the soft light filtering through the curtains, my head resting on the pillow, and there she was….Vivian. Her brown hair splayed out across the pillow, I watched her, my heart pounding in my chest, memories of last night flooding back. The way her body responded to mine, the way her lips had tasted of all the things we’d been trying to keep hidden between us.Last night had been epic, not just because of the intensity of what had happened, but because I’d let my guard down completely. I was still angry at her, but damn it, I couldn’t hold onto it for long. Not when she was here, lying beside me, making me feel things I didn’t want to feel at this moment but couldn’t resist.I ran a hand through my hair, sighing quietly. As much as I wanted to, I couldn’t place all the blame on her. Vivian wasn’t the enemy. Hell, in many ways, she was as much of a victim as I was….caught up in the twisted web my parents had spun for years. We’d both been manipulated, forced to p

I could almost imagine the confusion on their face yesterday.Jack shifted beside me, his voice low and groggy as he leaned over. "What’s got you smiling like that?"I glanced at him, a guilty grin spreading across my face. “I... uh... kind of did something yesterday.”He raised an eyebrow, the corner of his mouth tugging into an amused smirk. “Oh no, what did you do this time?”“I may have, you know, set Sebastian and Clara up...”Jack sat up a little straighter, blinking in surprise. “Wait, what?”I bit my lip, trying to stifle my laugh. “After everything that happened between me and Sebastian... I felt bad. And Clara, you also rejected her love. So... I decided to play matchmaker.”Jack shook his head, clearly entertained. “You set up a date for Sebastian, someone that had a crush on you and your best friend? That’s... pretty bold, Viv.”“I kno

Your parents... they made you sick.”I shook my head, my pulse racing. “No. No, that doesn’t make sense,” I muttered, my breath catching in my throat. “What... what are you trying to say? That they... they killed my sister and…” My voice broke off as tears welled in my eyes, a sharp ache rising in my chest.Sebastian sighed, his expression pained as he continued. “That’s exactly what I’m saying, Jack. Your parents, they orchestrated everything. They injected you with the same thing that killed your sister. And your brother…I think he wasn’t just sick either. They did the same thing to him.”Tears started streaming down my face. “But why?” I choked out, feeling a mix of anger, confusion, an

VIVIAN I stood beside the doctor, watching him pack his things.“I’m done,” he said, straightening his tie and turning to face me. “Let’s head to the house.”"Yes, of course," I replied with a smile. "We’ll go together in my car."I led the way out of the office, and we walked toward the parking lot in silence. The cool evening air brushed against my skin, but inside, my nerves were tingling…everything had to go perfectly.I unlocked the car, slipping into the driver’s seat as the doctor settled beside me. The moment I shut the door, I saw him glance to his left….where Sebastian sat calmly in the passenger seat. The doctor froze as soon as he saw him, his mouth slightly open as if forming a question, but before he could say a word, Sebastian swiftly reached out, pulling a syringe from his jacket."What…." the doctor started, panic flashing in his eyes, but Sebastian was quicker. In a single, swift motion, he plunged the needle into the doctor’s arm, injecting the liquid into his

VIVIAN I stared at the doctor, feeling the chill run through my veins. "They… they brought you in to renew the oath. You were supposed to take the place of their next child. They performed a ritual to bind you to their bloodline, so when Jack dies, you would have become the new sacrifice when you turned 23," he said, his voice trembling.I felt like the air had been sucked out of the room. Me? A sacrifice? My body felt ice cold as the reality of his words settled in. "They planned for me to die too?" My voice came out shaky, the anger rising inside me tightening my chest. The doctor couldn’t even meet my eyes as he answered. "Yes," he mumbled. "They needed someone young enough to continue the cycle, and you fit the criteria. Once you turned 23, they would have repeated the process all over again, using you to extend their wealth."I couldn’t stop the shiver that ran through me. They wanted me dead, too. It felt like just yesterday that I held her in my arms for the first time, and now she was here, radiant and full of joy, ready to be part of my special day. Taking her hand, I walked slowly toward the church doors. The moment I stepped inside, a hush fell over the guests, and every head turned to face us. She paused for a moment, taking in the sight of the people who had come to support her. “This gallery has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember, and seeing it come to life tonight is nothing short of surreal.”The audience clapped politely, and Clara took a breath, glancing at the art behind her before continuing. “I’ve always believed that art is a reflection of our journey….the ups, the downs, the moments that define who we are. And tonight, I’m honored to share that journey with all of you.”As the applause quieted down, Clara’s expression softened, and h

His lips crashed against mine, hungry, desperate, as he backed me up against the wall, his body pressing firmly into mine. My heart raced, matching the rhythm of his rapid, heated kisses. He pulled my coat off, tossing it aside with a low growl as his fingers traced over my skin, igniting every inch of me.“I’ve been waiting for this all night,” he murmured against my lips, his hands slipping down to the tip of my dress, ready to pull it up.But just as the heat was building between us, Jack’s phone buzzed. He ignored it, not breaking the kiss, his hand already sliding up my thigh. The buzzing continued, persistent, as he groaned in frustration, finally glancing at the screen.“It’s the family lawyer,” he muttered.I stilled, pulling back just enough to catch my breath. “You should probably answer that.”Jack sighed, clearly annoyed, but nodded. He pulled out his phone, pressing the speaker button.

This was, what, our tenth time meeting? And yet, the butterflies in my stomach still showed up every single time.I leaned back, rubbing my palms together. Tonight was the night. I was finally going to ask Clara out….make this official. Vivian had been the one to introduce us, though she still swore it wasn’t a setup. I knew better, though, and I wasn’t complaining. Not one bit.Just then, I heard the door click open. My heart skipped a beat. I couldn’t help the smile that spread across my face as I turned toward the sound.
