"Mother, your mask is ready, can I put it on for you now?"
Between flashbacks Cathy had made her way to the old Mrs. Lewis's door, she took a deep breath and knocked lightly on the door before saying.
"Come in!" The shrill voice of old Mrs. Lewis rang out.
Cathy pushed open the door and entered the room.
Old Mrs. Lewis's room was large, covered with expensive intricately crafted handmade woolen carpets, furnished with expensive antique furniture, and decorated with gold embroidered brocade draperies.
"You are too slow in doing things, I really can't expect you to do anything, you're just going to screw everything up! It's only seven hours until the banquet starts and yet I haven't even fixed my makeup or my dress, don't you know how rare Mrs. Lanyon's banquet are?" Old Mrs. Lewis was right in the middle of the room receiving her hair done by the exclusive styling team, seeing Cathy enter, old Mrs. Lewis started scolding again,
"Never mind, what can I expect a hick like you to know?" Old Mrs. Lewis narrowed her eyes at Cathy, satisfied with her overwhelmed expression, and contemptuously continued, "It was a perfectly good idea of Kevin's not to allow you to go to such occasions, or else there's no telling how many jokes you'd have made, and how much of a joke you'd have made everyone look at us Lewis family. I'm in a good mood today, so I'll tell you. Mrs. Lanyon's real name is Olivia Melville, the eldest daughter of the Melville family, which is one of the top families on our rich list, and many of our industries rely on the Melville family. Mrs.Lanyon married Blake Lanyon, the Lanyon family being one of the most powerful, and both were very well suited to each other and made a good match. The couple is usually very low-key and doesn't often throw parties, this one was held because of a dinner party for the couple's son Leo to celebrate his 3rd birthday, and even though it's a birthday party, there will be a lot of bigwigs who will be there, so we're definitely not allowed to be late for the party. Kevin went to his cousin's place so he didn't need you to worry about his attire and you served me alone, but look at you, just serving me alone you're so slack, how can you go out and socialize as the daughter-in-law of our family? You really flunked out completely.“
Old Mrs. Lewis rolled her eyes at Cathy without ceremony and began to enjoy her all-natural, cruelty-free cucumber mask.
Cathy felt a little embarrassed at being taunted in front of so many strangers, and she bit her lower lip a little bit, wanting to leave the room, so she turned around on the pretext of fetching old Mrs. Lewis’s dress and jewelry for the banquet and left.
Cathy found it difficult and sad when she heard old Mrs. Lewis siad that Kevin didn't allow her to attend these public social occasions.
She remembered Kevin's comment that her manners and upbringing were not at all up to the standard of a lady, so he asked old Mrs. Lewis to help her with her upbringing and says that only if old Mrs. Lewis thought she's up to snuff would he allowed her to appear in public social occasions as a Mrs. Lewis.
Cathy could very well understand, but in all the spitefulness and scolding of old Mrs. Lewis during these three years, she sometimes felt a little despondent and wondered if she would never be able to live up to the standard of a lady for the rest of her life.
But Cathy, who was optimistic by nature, never let such emotions linger in her mind for too long, and she still reorganized her mindset and picked herself up again.
Now Cathy did the same, wanting some peace to sort herself out, so she went out to the small terrace at the end of the corridor and lay on the railing for a while gazing out into the distance in silence, unable to calm her thoughts in her mind.
She knew she wasn't exactly bright, and her experience growing up in an orphanage had left her with no time for so-called manners and upbringing.
She'd always been struggling to survive, and the only drawing she was good at was still taught by an old painter on a whim.
The orphanage was next to a private nursing home, and there was an old man in the nursing home who liked to laze around the fountain in front of the orphanage, and little Cathy liked to look over the fence at the fountain as the water sparkled in the setting sun. So the old man was bored and met the little Cathy.
During the conversation, the little Cathy said she wanted to become a painter, and it just so happened that the old man was a painter, he claimed that he was an unknown painter, and he felt that there was no point in continuing to paint one day, and so he stopped painting for a long time.
He started to teach Cathy how to draw, but it didn't last long. One year later, the old man suddenly left the nursing home one day, and the little Cathy didn't know anything about it, it seemed that all she could do was to keep on drawing, and Cathy thought that she might find her meaning one day.
Thinking about this, Cathy realized that she hadn't painted in a long time because she was so tired from living every day since she got married that she no longer had time to continue her hobby.
Cathy could not help feeling a little down in the dumps again, but she had spent enough time on the little terrace, and it was time to get away and do something, so silently rearranging herself in her mind, she got up and left the terrace and walked over to old Mrs. Lewis's checkroom to sort out her dress and jewels.
While arranging her gown, Cathy could not help thinking of Mrs. Lanyon, whom old Mrs. Lewis had just mentioned, and suddenly a little envy rose in her for that Mrs.Lanyon, whom she had never known, of rich birth, of a good family, of a loving couple, and of a child.
When Cathy thought of a baby, she thought of the fact that she had been married for three years and had not yet gotten pregnant, and a longing suddenly arose in her heart to have a baby that looked like Kevin.
Cathy imagined how happy Kevin would be with a baby, and how their family of three would be complete and happier.
Kevin would be a great dad, he would have his hands full changing diapers and feeding the baby formula.
Cathy smiled slightly shyly at the thought and secretly decided to wait until Kevin came home tonight to talk to him about having a baby.
With this thought, Cathy's depressed mood for the day was swept away and she was happy again. She hummed as she picked up her organized gowns and jewelry and walked out of the checkroom to deliver them to old Mrs. Lewis.
At six o'clock in the evening, old Mrs. Lewis was finally dressed and ready to get into the car to go to Mrs. Lanyon's banquet.
Before she got into the car she glanced back at Cathy who was standing in front of the servants and warned, "Don't think you're going to be able to take it easy until I get back tonight, you're going to have to sanitize the whole villa and have a hot bath and some good digestible late night snacks for me, I don't want to have to wait for you to do all of that when I get back."
"Yes, Mother." Cathy responded with a good-natured nod.
Satisfied with this, old Mrs. Lewis got in her car and left.
Although old Mrs. Lewis gave further instructions before she left, Cathy was perfectly content to have a relaxing break before she returned at 11:00 p.m. Cathy was in a very happy mood and turned to chat cheerfully with Milah as they walked along.
Cathy thought to herself as she went upstairs.
I'll start tonight by watching half of the last movie I saw with Kevin so I can discuss the plot in more depth with him.
She thought that the last time Kevin left halfway through a movie the last time he saw it was because she didn't have a more in-depth understanding of the movie and wasn't able to have some interesting discussions with Kevin, leading to Kevin's lack of interest.
After a quick cleanup of the room with the servants, Cathy couldn't wait to get back to her room and turned on the TV, adjusting it to the last node she had seen, while she waited for it to load, Cathy grabbed her cell phone from the nightstand, thinking to see if Kevin had sent her a message or anything else from her friends.
Cathy opened her lock screen and a message pop-up pops up, an unfamiliar number sent her a couple of messages, but Kevin didn't send a message.
Cathy tapped on the text message from the unfamiliar number with some loss, four text messages, and three picture messages that left Cathy frozen straight away, she couldn't believe what she was seeing.
"I haven't seen you for a long time, Uncle Rynaud." Old Mr. Melville sat on the sofa with a cane, looking at the man in front of him with a gloomy face. Cathy sat sideways next to her grandfather and looked carefully at the man's face. The man named Frank Melville wears a dark blue suit with a beige vest, with a straight waist and back, and looks elegant and stylish from behind. His brown hair is mixed with white hair that can't be ignored, which is slightly messy. His appearance is somewhat similar to Carter's, but his eyes seemed turbid, and the occasional dodged eyes and drooping corners of his eyes revealed his malice. At this time, he was raising the corners of his mouth and naturally greeted Old Mr. Melvillea. He turned his head slightly to look at Cathy and looked surprised with his eyes wide open. "You are my poor niece.I konw you really suffer. Now you are found back, your parents must be at ease..." His words were sincere, and Cathy also found that his eye
"Good morning, Miss Cathy, how have you been? I've heard from Carter that you've recently taken a liking to Yvonne Benedict's fiddle tunes. It just so happens that she's been giving a solo recital lately and sent me two tickets to the premiere, which is tonight. I wonder if you'd be interested in going along to listen?"At eight in the morning, Cathy had just finished washing up and returning to her room from the bathroom when she happened to see a text message pop up on her mobile phone, which she picked up to find it was from Felix.Felix had messaged her almost every day since they had reunited on the day of the banquet, they hadn't talked about anything very important, just small talk about interesting things in life and work. Because Carter said to her after the party that she could be at ease with Felix and could see Felix as another brother, Cathy was also very relaxed with Felix, and she treated Felix as the same being as Carter, Kyle, and Eric. So when she saw the invitation
Felix coughed a little and raised the glass in his hand again to take a sip, Carter looked at him with more and more suspicious eyes, just as Felix wanted to change the subject, he just saw Cathy's figure, she looked around as if looking for something, Cathy turned her head just to meet Felix's eyes, Felix hooked up the corners of his mouth and raised his glass to her, Cathy had a surprised smile on her face and walked towards him. Cathy had a surprised smile on her face and walked quickly towards him. Carter saw Felix's movement and turned round to spot Cathy."Carter, Mr.Langley, finally found you. Let's go find Grandfather." Cathy smiled as she walked up to the two."Is grandfather looking for me? I'll be right over." Carter assumed that Grandfather was looking for him and with a nod he headed straight for the lounge."Did you speak to Old Mr.Melville?" Felix asked as he bent slightly closer to Cathy."No, I thought you said you wanted to say it in person. So I just told Grandfathe
"Cathy, I was just going to look for you. Mr.Langley? Why are you guys ......" Cathy and Felix both walked into the ballroom side by side, Olivia smiled at Cathy as soon as she saw her and walked towards her, but noticed Felix next to her sister and asked in surprise. "Good evening, it's a pleasure to meet you Mrs.Lanyon, and I'd like to congratulate you on getting your sister back." Felix raised a gentle smile and gave her a small nod. "Olivia, I used to spend some time with Mr.Langley at the orphanage, I'll tell you the details when I get home." Cathy took Olivia's arm and explained to her. "Is that so? I didn't know you guys had met so early on." Olivia looked surprised. "Yes, about this, I think I am somewhat responsible and I need to say sorry to everyone in the Melville clan." Felix sounded very sincere. "Mr Langley, we've already discussed this topic, and that's not on you." Cathy looked at Felix somewhat helplessly and disapprovingly. "Consider it for my poor self-este
"Mr. Lewis, I would suggest that it would be better for you to speak after you have understood what is going on, otherwise you will look foolish." Eric's voice was lazy, but his words were unforgiving."What?" It took Kevin a moment to realize that Olivia and Eric were behind Cathy, it also took him a moment to realize that the guests around them were looking at them with strange eyes and whispering. Kevin felt that something wasn't quite right, but really had no idea what was going on, when the old Mrs. Lewis tugged at his sleeve."Cathy is the daughter that the Melville clan lost and she just asked me to apologize.""What?" Kevin was shocked at this, he hadn't expected such a coincidence at all, he subconsciously wondered if something could be wrong, "That's impossible, isn't Cathy just an orphan? Could there be a mistake?" As soon as these words came out, Kevin knew it was over, the opportunity he had begged so hard f
"Cathy, it's about time now, let's go over there with Grandpa." Olivia looked at the clock on the wall and turned her head to say to Cathy who was sitting next to her taking small sips of red wine. At this moment, Cathy and Olivia were resting in the hotel's fixed suite, originally Olivia was going to go and greet the ladies attending the banquet, but because Cathy was too nervous, Olivia was afraid that she would get carried away alone, so she stayed behind and let Carter, Kyle and Eric deal with it. Old Mr.Melville, on the other hand, was resting in his suite first because of his health and would go over there when the banquet officially started. "Okay, I'm ready." Cathy took Olivia's advice and drank a little bit of red wine so that her spirit didn't have to be so tight. It didn't take long for the three to appear in the ballroom. The entire banquet hall was much larger and more lavishly decorated than the one where the banquet was held after attending the auction that day, and
