Thanks for reading. The proposal was a success along with the grand opening, but Jayden news stole the joy of the moment away. What do you think? Please leave your comment. Thank you for the many votes I got yesterday I appreciate. I really thought this book won't do well if I'm honest, I got some very discouraging remarks from other people that tore away my hopes, but thank you guys for sticking around and every comment is appreciated <3
Imela's POV"Are you sure you want to come along?" Oliver inquired, staring at me with weary eyes.I bit my lips and nodded. "There is no place I'd rather be right now," I answered. This past week has been a difficult time, not just for him but for the rest of his friends as well. I wanted to be a part of it and give him all the support he needed. Jayden's sentence surprised all of them. They had looked forward to him beating and coming out victorious last week, but the verdict had rocked all their worlds in a new and terrible way. They had planned to throw an afterparty to celebrate three things: Sir's grand opening of the Lockwood casino, Jayden's victory in court, and our engagement, but all that was halted by the verdict.Jayden White would serve a five-year sentence for a crime he didn't commit. It was painful and also powerful to see friends stick out for each other through tough times. We entered the visitor's hall, and the guards were already informed about who we were.Jayden
Oliver’s POV The door cracked open after a small knock, and turning around, I found Robert standing at the door, already dressed in his grey three-piece suit and vest. He came over an hour ago, saying he wanted to get ready here, but a part of me felt there was more to it than he was letting on. Since he didn’t say anything more, I didn’t push. I knew it had something to do with Ivory being absent on this particular day, but I wanted him to come out with whatever was bothering him on his own. “You are keeping an eye on me to make sure what happened last time won’t repeat itself?” I asked with a raised brow. He folded his arms across his chest and leaned against the doorframe. “I know it won’t repeat itself because, unlike what you had with Cecil, you seem to be chasing this one with your mind and soul,” he replied confidently. He was right, and I was, but I didn’t think it was evident to him. I didn’t care, though; it was a good thing that everyone could see my dedication to Ela. T
Imela’s POVStaring at myself in the mirror, I knew Nina and Ingrid were right. I wore a trumpet wedding gown with lace sleeves. Ingrid chose it because it provided comfort and elegance, and when Nina, who went along with me, saw it, she agreed that it would look so good on me. My hair was in a big braid, which was later made into a bun with a few curls dangling over my face. With the makeup setting the tone, it did well to highlight my neck and collarbone.“Mommy’s so pretty.” Ocean gushed as he ran to stand before me while the makeup artist finished his work on my face.I smiled at Ocean and reached for him. He wore his grey three-piece suit and black bow tie, just like his daddy's men. His hair was in a neat braid because he liked it after seeing it on TV. He was the perfect mini-groom, and he would accompany the bride according to plans. He ran into my arms, giggling happily. “Thank you, my love.”“It’s your wedding?”I nodded. “Mommy is marrying Daddy today, and we are going to t
My head dropped, and the tears fell to the floor because I feared I would ruin my dress if I didn’t. Oliver was a smooth talker, and he always got to me. I thought his vows would be lines I’d heard before, and though some were, they still had a significant impact on how genuine they were.Oliver offered me his handkerchief, and I took it and wiped the tears away before looking back up. I sniffed and cleared my throat. “There is no way what I wrote beats that,” I mumbled to him.He shook his head. “I know your heart, and that will be enough.”I bit my bottom lip and nodded. Nina handed me the small notebook I had written my vows in, and I flipped the pages. “I love you, Oliver Michael Plane, and I wish I knew why. If I did, perhaps it wouldn’t be love anymore. I loved you the first day I saw you, and after six years, I still love you. You always stress that you’re not perfect, and perhaps that’s what makes you perfect to me. If given the chance to start all over, I will pick you, Olive
“You seem happier at the reception than you are now.” Oliver pointed this out as we drove silently for more than five minutes.I turned to him and noticed his curious blue eyes flickering carefully over me. I sighed, and my eyes dropped. “I thought I saw Cecil as we were leaving the reception. She was among the well-wishers waving us off, except she looked angry and held menace in her expression; she was there.” I revealed it to him.He took my hand into his and, bringing it to his mouth, kissed it but remained silent.I didn’t like that very much. He had asked what the problem was and then chose silence after learning about it. “You do not believe me, do you?” I asked.“Cecil is in prison serving the sentence for what she did, and she will not be coming out anytime soon.” He replied. That's true; I knew her sentence, but “I know what I saw.” I murmured, but he heard me and smiled. His head turned, and his soft eyes rested on me. “You shouldn’t give her the power to ruin this importan
My eyes opened, and I found Oliver playing with my coils. A few of the braids had loosened last night during our artwork called Love, and he was currently twirling them between his fingers.“You look too handsome for an early morning,” I muttered, fluttering my lashes. When they opened back up, I found him grinning."Well, thank you, queen gorgeous,” he said, pressing his soft lips against my temple. I rolled my eyes and scoffed, “Queen and gorgeous? Make up your mind, sir.”“I can't; that's the problem. You are my queen because you rule my world, and you are gorgeous because look at you,” he said, his eyes flickering over what he could see of my body.My cheeks grew warm, and I forgot my following line of words and pressed my lips together. Oliver always could do that to me, making me speechless. His compliment hit hard, and knowing he hardly ever had any planned out made it even more incredible.I covered my face, and he pried my hands away. “I mean every word.”“Any plans for the
Imela Barau's POVBreathe in.Breathe out.Blink.Repeat.All the coping lessons I gave myself for thirty minutes while we drove over here had suddenly become useless, as none of them were helping me face the beat of the drum. My heart hammered against my chest, and sweat trickled down my face as I bit down on my lower lip, waiting for the reaction of the speechless family at the dinner table to the news."You asked her to marry you?" Ivory Plane, Oliver's mother, exclaimed as her green eyes darted between us in horror as if those words were the worst thing she had ever heard. Her complete disapproval bore itself in her poised, high-pitched voice.Oliver Plane dropped the bomb a minute ago. It was the news of our engagement at the dinner table, and a minute of silence passed with the gazes of the other four Planes at the table darting between us."I am very sure that is what I just said a minute ago, Mom." Oliver, who hadn't picked up all the cues his mother had laid since he stepped i
Oliver and I stepped out of the multimillion-dollar, architecturally refined mansion into the compound of the Planes. The fluorescent lighting illuminated the night to show the path for the exit, and it was a work of art, amongst many others. Finally, outside and alone with Oliver, I drew a long breath. He still wrapped his arms around me, and if only he knew how much strength he had given me. I didn't expect him to go to the lengths he had gone for me today, but I appreciated that he defended my honour. Still, I didn't want him to be on bad terms with his family because of me. We walked to Oliver's car in silence, and he opened the door to me. "Again, I am sorry for what happened back there," he began. "I told you our kinds don't mix from the beginning," I said at the same time. He paused, taken off guard by the line of my sentence, and released his hand around me. I glanced at him and found a look of confusion and betrayal on his face as he stared at me. "Are you saying my mo
