It was already night, and Ethan wasn’t back yet. Ava sat in the living room, her gaze fixed on the door as if her stare alone would bring him home. She had been pacing earlier, but now she was on the couch, her legs curled under her, her hands tightly gripping a throw pillow.

“What are you doing?” Liam’s voice came from the staircase, startling her.

Ava glanced at him, letting out a deep sigh. “No....Nothing,” Ava replied, letting out a deep sigh as she shifted to sit up straight. She hadn’t even realized how long she had been standing near the door.

Do....you... Do you think Ethan will be fine?” she finally asked , her voice soft, almost unsure. She turned to face Liam, her worry evident.

“Yeah, he’ll be back soon, don’t worry.” Liam assured her as he moved toward the couch.

Before either of them could say more, the sound of the front door unlocking grabbed their attention, they both turned staring at the door.

“You see? I told you he’d be back,” Liam said, standing up.

Ava's POV I stared at my reflection in the mirror, turning from side to side. The wedding dress hugged my body tightly, maybe too tightly. I frowned, pulling at the fabric."Ava, you look amazing in that dress!" my best friend Sophie said, her eyes wide. "Just look at you!"I looked at myself again, still not happy. "I look fat, don't you think?" I asked, pinching at my sides.Sophie laughed and came closer. She put her hands on my shoulders and turned me to face the mirror again. "Look carefully," she said. "All I see is a very beautiful bride-to-be."Just then, someone walked into the room. I turned and saw it was my stepmom, Grace. My heart sank a little."What are you doing here, Grace?" I asked, trying to keep my voice calm. She smiled, but it didn't reach her eyes. "I came to see how beautiful my daughter looks," she said."Your stepdaughter," I corrected her quickly.Grace came closer, her eyes moving over the dress. "Look how beautiful these dresses are," she said. "They were

My whole world had fallen apart in just a few hours, and I needed something solid to hold onto. The elevator doors finally opened, and I stumbled out. Dad's office took up the entire top floor of the building - the penthouse suite, as he liked to call it. The view from up here was usually breathtaking, but today I barely noticed it.I was relieved to find the office empty. Wiping my tears, I went straight to Dad's desk. I had to find that contract - the one I'd begged him to sign. It said that once I got married, Gabe would take my place as the acting chairperson of the company. How could I have been so blind? Dad never liked Gabe, but I thought he was just being overprotective. Now I understand. But even knowing what Gabe had done, my heart still ached. I loved him so much. Ethan POV The argument with my father left a bitter taste in my mouth. I stormed out of his office, my hands shaking as I got into my car. I needed to clear my head, and I knew just the place.I drove to the bridge - my secret spot. Well, not so secret. My friends and I had been coming here since we were teenagers, sneaking beers and dreaming about our futures. Now, years later, I was the only one who still came. But I couldn't help it. Something about the smell of the water, the gentle breeze - it calmed me like nothing else could.I parked under the bridge and climbed onto the hood of my car. The metal was cool against my back as I lay there, staring up at the underside of the bridge. I turned up the music in my car, letting it wash over me. For a moment, I could forget about my father's expectations, the pressure of the family business, all of it.Then I heard it. A loud crash, followed by the unmistakable sound of a car hitting water. I sat up so fast I almost slid off the hood.

Ethan POV It had been over a week since I'd last visited the hospital. Work at the office had been relentless, a constant stream of meetings and reports that left me feeling drained. But I couldn't get the mysterious girl out of my mind - the one I'd pulled from the river that night.I was about to call Mr. Roberts for an update when Noah burst into my office like a human tornado."Dude!" I exclaimed, nearly dropping my phone. "Ever heard of knocking? This isn't your office, you know."Noah grinned, rapping his knuckles on the open door. "Knock knock," he said, way too cheerfully for a Monday morning.I couldn't help but laugh. "Get out of here, you goof."But Noah's smile faded as he flopped into the chair across from me. "Your father called," he said, his tone suddenly serious. "We've got a funeral to attend."I felt a knot form in my stomach. "Whose funeral?""Mr. Brooks."The name didn't mean much to me, but I could tell from Noah's face that it was important. "I'm guessing he wa

Ava woke up feeling confused. Her eyes slowly opened, and everything looked blurry. She blinked a few times, trying to make sense of her surroundings. "I'm alive?" she whispered to herself, surprised. She wiggled her toes and fingers, relieved to feel them move. An older man in a white coat stood nearby. He turned to her with a kind smile. "You're awake," he said gently. Ava tried to sit up, but the doctor put a hand on her shoulder. "Take it easy," he said. "Your muscles are weak. You need to rest." The doctor did some quick checks. He shined a light in Ava's eyes, listened to her heart and lungs, and tested her reflexes. He asked her to follow his finger with her eyes and squeeze his hands. "Where am I?" Ava asked, her voice scratchy from not being used. "You're in the hospital," the doctor explained. He stepped back and took out his phone. "She's awake," he said to someone on the other end. Ava's heart started racing. "Please don't call my family!" she begged. She gripped th

Ethan's heart raced as he opened the door to Ava's hospital room, his mind filled with a mix of worry and anticipation. The soft sound of the door clicking open caught her attention, and she turned to look at him, her gray eyes sharp but cautious. The sight of her there, sitting up in bed, made him feel like he could breathe again. He tried to play it cool, lifting a shopping bag as if it were no big deal."I got you some clothes," he said, his voice a little too loud in the quiet room. "Mr. Robert says you're good to leave whenever you’re ready."Ava's lips curved into a smile, and for a moment, Ethan felt like the world had shifted under his feet. That smile. It did something to him, something he couldn’t quite name. "Thank you," she replied softly, reaching out to take the bag.As she pulled the clothes from the bag, Ethan’s eyes lingered on them. They seemed too big for her, and he felt a sudden stab of guilt. He’d spent hours the night before browsing different websites, trying t

Ava stared out the window, watching raindrops race down the glass. She had been living in this house for four months now, and every day felt the same. Wake up, eat, sleep, and watch her favorite TV shows—that was her routine. Ever since Ethan gave her a new phone, her days had been spent scrolling through the internet, mostly stalking Gabe and Sophie’s profiles. It was official—they were dating. They flaunted their relationship online like they were the perfect couple. Each new picture of them together felt like a stab in Ava’s heart. Gabe had never had time to travel with her, yet in just a few weeks, he had flown to several countries with Sophie. He never posted her on his social media either, always claiming, "People will think I’m with you for your dad’s money." Now, it was clear that had been an excuse all along. When she wasn’t torturing herself by looking at their profiles, Ava was checking the reports coming in on her dad’s hotel from his laptop. The numbers were still good, b

Ava's sobs echoed through her room, punctuated by angry mutters. "How could they?" she whispered, clutching a pillow to her chest. "Should I crash the wedding? No... I'm supposed to be dead. But Sophie... we've been best friends since we were kids. Did our friendship mean nothing?"Her stomach growled loudly, reminding her that she hadn't eaten since breakfast. The clock on her nightstand blinked 6:00 PM. Wiping her eyes, Ava tiptoed to her door and peeked out. The hallway was mercifully empty. She crept downstairs, following the lingering scent of Mrs. Chen's cooking. In the kitchen, she found a covered tray on the island. Lifting the lid, she discovered a still-warm plate of her favorite comfort foods."Yes!" Ava did a little dance, then caught herself. "Okay, calm down. You need energy to keep crying, right?" She wasn't sure if she was hungry or just angry anymore, but food was food.---Ethan paced in his study, unable to focus on work. Ava's tears kept replaying in his mind. He'd

She wasn’t naked or doing anything wrong, but the way she panicked like she’d been caught committing a crime, but her reaction made her seem guilty. She turned to face the door, clearly avoiding looking at me.“Fuck,” I muttered under my breath, running a hand through my hair. “Can’t I have some privacy in my house?” I growled, turning toward Liam, who stood in the doorway with an amused smirk on his face. He’d ruined everything, always showing up when I didn’t want him to. He had ruined everything. The moment I’d been waiting for, craving for, was here, and he took it away just like that. “Nothing!” Ava blurted, her voice higher than usual. I glanced at her, hoping for a different reaction, but she wouldn’t meet my eyes. Instead, she grabbed her juice and practically ran for the door. “Welcome back, Liam. Goodnight, Ethan,” she said

  • The Betrayal's kiss    Chapter 59: I Felt him

Ava's POV The incident with Gabe was stuck in my head, making it impossible to focus at work. Anger bubbled inside me every time I thought about it. I knew I wanted to get back with him before, but now, it’s clear— that whatever connection we once had is gone. Everything about him disgusts me, especially those lips. I’ve washed my lips so many times today, scrubbing at the memory of his unwanted kiss. Now, I’m sitting at my desk, reapplying lipstick for what feels like the hundredth time, only to wipe it off again. These lips… the same lips Ethan kissed with so much passion last night. His kiss was breathtaking, unforgettable, and yet Gabe had to ruin everything with his pathetic attempt this morning. I sighed deeply, shaking my head. My thoughts wandered back to last night—the way Ethan’s tongue worked magic, pulling reactions from me that I didn’t even know I could feel. I touched my lips, a small smile creeping across my face. But then the memory of Gabe’s forceful kiss intr

Ava's POV I wanted to move, but my legs betrayed me. My body felt weak—this was the first time I’d ever felt such pleasure. “Go and shower, princess,” Ethan said, his voice low as he kissed my cheek. I stayed frozen on the spot, trying to regain strength. “Should I carry you?” he asked, his lips curling into a teasing smile. “No!” I blurted out, almost yelling. The idea of him carrying me to the bathroom was tempting, but I knew exactly where it would lead, and I wasn’t ready for another round just yet. “I’ll manage,” I added quickly, forcing a small smile. As I gathered my clothes, I couldn’t help the grin spreading on my face. “What’s making you smile?” Ethan asked, his curious eyes watching me. “Nothing,” I replied, shaking my head as I hurried to his bathroom, closing the door behind me. --- It’s morning already, and I woke up next to a muscular body today. I really enjoyed my sleep. Will I say I had the best sleep ever? I might be exaggerating, but I did… I smi

The way he kissed me was like nothing I had ever experienced before—so passionate and dominating that I felt the electricity all the way down to my toes."Mmm..." • The Betrayal's kiss    Chapter 56: Found something

Ava's POV After a long, hot shower, I flopped onto my bed and covered my face with my hands. Why do I keep embarrassing myself around Ethan? It was like my body had its own plans every time he was near. I rolled onto my side, trying to distract myself, when my eyes landed on the file I’d been planning to show him. The paper stared back at me like it was daring me to make a decision. Should I give it to him now? I wondered. Or maybe… just forget about it? No… it’s important. I have to. I grabbed the file and walked out of my room. When I reached Ethan’s door, my heart was pounding. I hesitated for a moment, thinking whether to go in or not. I took a deep breath, then gave a light knock before stepping inside. “Come in,” his deep voice called. I pushed the door open and saw him, he was standing by the window again. Why is he always at the window? I wondered. He turned, a small smile tugging at his lips as he walked toward me. “I think you might want to see this,” I said,

Staying in the room wasn’t helping. Ava sighed as her stomach growled for the second time. "I need to eat because I’m starving right now," she muttered, heading to the door. She cracked it open and peeked through, looking for any sign of Ethan. The hallway was quiet. “Good,” she whispered to herself. After embarrassing herself this morning, facing Ethan felt like the worst idea. She slipped out of her room and quietly made her way to the kitchen. The aroma of food hit her as soon as she entered, making her stomach growl even louder. She spotted a tray of food neatly covered on the counter. “Thank God for the cook,” she whispered gratefully as she sat down and uncovered the food. She picked up her fork and began devouring her meal, letting out a contented sigh. She was halfway through her food when Ethan walked into the kitchen. She froze in place, her fork hovering mid-air. “You finally decided to come out, huh?” Ethan said casually as he strolled to the fridge. Ava’s eye

I opened my mouth to explain, but I stuttered. “I... I went to check the CCTV. But it’s not there.
