A corner of his mouth curved up as he watched me, and my very brave, or depending on the outcome, stupid, attempt at seducing him.

I wondered if he'd let me seduce him.

The low words rumbling from his chest. “You're not mine, not in this life. I shouldn't want you so much. And yet I can't seem to help myself.”

I didn't care if he was saying yet another one of his weird ass witch bullshit. I wanted him, and I wanted him now. I tried to take the lead again, rubbing against him, but he did something that shocked me into stillness. He slid his large hand to the back of my neck, lowered his head to smell me, running his nose from my collarbone along my neck, and stopping just behind my ear.

My toes curled, and I forgot all about the pain in my foot where I'd hurt my ankle and torn open the toe of my skin.

The intimacy of such a personal action sent a powerful shudder through me, stimulating the tingle in my stomach and between her legs. A moan escaped from the back of my throat

She looked terrifying. She looked like she'd come out of a movie set with the way she was dressed. And with that gleaming sword at her side.My eyes widened as Cage bent and dropped me on my feet, leaving me standing before the tomb raider lady, where she could cut me in two."You sure know how to make an entrance, Zen."Zen?!The woman chuckled dryly and drew the sword back.I shrunk back, going to stand behind Cage. The traitor gave me an amused look before walking up to meet the woman.I watched them as Cage bent to the floor and picked up a black gym bag.He came to me and dropped the bag on the bed beside me, then gave me a pointed look."There are clothes in there. They're for you. Shower and dress. And be fast about it."Why was he suddenly being so curt with me? Was it because of the woman? My eyes slid to the dark-haired beauty again. She looked really hot in the leather jacket and denim pants she was wearing. And then the sword. Had people always carried things around like t

CageI felt like a deer in headlights, rooted to the spot.It wasn't Raven. It wasn't Raven, I told myself repeatedly.I searched her face, my eyes hooded as I took in the sword Blue held in her hands. Her grip was loose and awkward on the hilt of the sword, and I knew instinctively that she could not fathom the real enormity of what she'd just done. She'd unsheathed the sword. She swiveled around, looking for any more shadow demons. But they had all fled. The power in Raven's sword was unfathomable. It was a spelled sword.Only Raven could fight with it, drawing out her energy and linking her soul to the sword. And she had drawn it out it."They all ran away. They've never done that before."I blinked. "Yes." I stared deep into her blue eyes, the one thing that made her different from Raven. My Raven had had amber eyes, the color of sunset. I'd often seen a reflection of me deep in those eyes as we laughed together, fought together, and made love.I rushed to her side and picked up t

BlueIt didn't look so different from the human world.Except for the waters. They were so clear; they glittered like sapphires. The sun was still setting here, and the red rays hit off the surface of the water and bounced off, filling the air with a burst of color.I felt like I was in some kind of dream.I had expected to see monsters with two heads, or even three. Or perhaps a half human, half horse. What were they called again?Cage's face wasn't exactly approachable. The look on his face told me something weighed heavily on him.I felt a close link with him now. I don't believe Cage will let me marry this alpha he spoke about. Not after what we had just shared. He'd thought he could fight it. Well, just goes to show that he felt the same irresistible pull I had to him.My feet hurt. And I felt especially tired and hungry."How long until we get to where we're going?" I asked him, feeling like fainting and having him carry me the rest of the way there."Not long."I sighed. The re

BlueGulping, I stayed frozen to the spot as the gigantic wolfman turned away from me.My breath whooshed out of me as I gulped in air, my trembling hands dropping from my face where I'd held them, shielding myself from the wrath of the monster. He turned back to me again and I stilled. He smiled. And I watched in shock as the hairs began to recede and the canines withdrew. He returned to man, and I asked myself if I'd truly seen him become something terrifying, a few minutes ago.Surely this wasn't the same beast that had almost mauled me?"I didn't mean for the conversation to go the direction it did. And for that l, I am truly sorry. You must be tired, I'm sure after some rest, you'll feel better." He nodded to two females that looked twice my size, dressed in black tunics and pants like him who approached me with hard eyes.I looked to Cage for some intervention, anything at all but he just stood there."You have fulfilled your obligation to your Alpha, Cage. Now, you may leave…"I

BlueMy eyes drooped heavily and the dress weighed heavy on my shoulders.I knew I was being weighed down by a bone deep sadness and not even truly the dress. Cage hadn't been there. He'd handed me over to his alpha. He'd abandoned me."Get in. We must prepare you for the first night."I stifled the urge to scream. "Please let me be, Wenda. I don't need help to take a bath.""Still, I have to remain here.""Suit yourself." Her eyes narrowed as I sank into the tub. I closed my eyes, wondering what would happen if I simply sank down into the tub and allowed the water to swallow me.How could I help myself? How did I get myself out of this?"Wenda , why does your alpha need a mate?" It was the first time I was initiating a conversation with her."For a century, he's been searching for an ember blood witch to become his mate. I suppose he decided to make you his mate when he found you.""But why? Why does it have to be an ember blood witch?"She grimaced and walked to the tub, stopping be

BlueI crawled over the rough cold floors, the cold seeping through the stupid nightgown Wenda had made me wear.I should have just gone with my gut feeling and worn something else. I would at least have better chances at surviving the cold in here.A cold wind blew from the tiny windows high in the walls and I hugged myself tighter, willing the cold away.I couldn't reach the windows, and even if I could, I wasn't sure I'd want to shut it. The two holes in the wall, cause they're not exactly proper windows, are the only source of light in this dump. The cell, my cell, was dark, the little light did nothing to make it easier to see, but I didn't want to be in utter darkness.I'd been in here for longer than a few hours at least, I guessed. Was it still night? Or was it morning already? The stiff image of Cage flashed through my head and I squeezed my eyes shut, as pain raced through me. It was quickly followed by anger, and the hatred and wrath made my blood boil, hot enough that the

BlueCold water splashed on my face and I sprang up, coughing and spluttering.I gasped, inhaling a startled breath.I glared at the culprit. With the little pail in his hands, he looked at me stonily."The Alpha asked for you.""And that was the best way to wake me?" I lashed at him.He threw me a derogatory look that shocked me. I didn't know this man. Had never had anything to do with him. Why did his eyes hold so much derision? He sneered and I hated him even more. "I will wake you however it pleases me to." He kicked the lantern so hard, it hit the cell bars and the glove shattered.I flinched, my hands going up to my face to shield me from any stray glass. He walked out of the cell and waited a few seconds before he turned and snarled the words, "Move your ass," at me.I stepped around the glass and walked out of the cell, breathing in and out.We walked down the aisle between the rows of cells and came out to a wider space. Blue"You thought the Alpha would set you free, didn't you?" The chains he was pulling from the cell clanked against the bars, startling me from where I dozed in the corner. He stepped into the space and I saw someone had lit another lantern and it now hung on the wall outside my cell. The dim glow was barely enough to light up the dungeon.I realized that they didn't even need the light. I watched him as he picked his way around the shards of glass. He stepped on some, and they snapped beneath his heavy boots. He bent and dropped a wooden platter, stepping aside he looked down at me with hooded eyes."Foiling the alphas carefully set plans means sure death. You should know that."I peered at the platter and saw a bowl of soup and some sad looking loaf of bread.I was not some dog. Who would eat off such chipped bowls?I sniffed and the soup wasn't really smelling bad. I hunched over the plate and turned my face away.He snorted and then dropped something else. Blue"You're free to go."I stood outside the police station, and considered my next move. I climbed down the stairs of the precinct and saw Ever's car out front.I rushed to hide behind a pillar, backing into the corner because I didn't think I could handle a run in with Ever. She hated my guts apparently.I peered around the pillar and saw Ever's beautiful beast of a car zoom off. I relaxed s little more. That meant Ever was gone. And I could now leave the precinct without her even seeing me. She still believed me to be involved in this somehow.I came out of the pillar when the car drove off, letting out a sigh of relief. Now I don't have to say anything to Ever.I turned to start walking, when I saw her. Ever, she watched me with eyes that were like daggers. My heart started racing again. Ever still thought I had something to do with Blue going missing. I could almost feel her staring at me as though trying to see into my soul through my skin. She looked so pissed at me. The last

Blue"No, no, it's not what you think." I rattled out, as my hands gripped the edge of the table in a grip that made my knuckles white.Ever continued to speak into her phone, telling them to be fast.My mouth dropped open in astonishment, wondering what the fuck I'd said, to make her call her bulldogs on me. "Ever, I'm not threatening you, or anything like that." I told her with an urgency, holding my hands palm out in an open show of honesty. "I swear, it's really me. I'm Blue. I told you it's a difficult to explain situation."Her stony look could have shot me right in between my eyes for all the hate and mistrust in them. "What have you done with Blue? You wicked bitch! I've been looking for her for the last two weeks! What the fuck have you done? Where is she?"Fuck! Fuck!To them, I was missing, hadn't been seen or heard from for more than a week. And Hank! My eyes flew to hers. They must think something happened to both of us.They thought I was missing, and that I, Monica, had

BlueI dozed on the chair, my body trying to catch up on the hours of lost sleep from yesterday night on the hard bed.I sat in a chair facing the reception area in the center of the lobby. There was a row of long benches facing the reception area and I had picked one, several other people had since joined me on the bench.I yawned again, staring at the clock behind the receptionists as I wondered why Ever wasn't out yet. It was already four in the evening and I had to be back at the shelter by six at least.No. No matter what, I wouldn't go back to that place.I had to convince Ever. All of this was mine anyway, so why was I suffering? In a different body, or in my body, it was still all the same. I was Blue Meyer. The elevator doors opened with a ping and Ever walked out, her long legs moving away from me so fast. She looked gorgeous in a knee length halter dress that had no place in the workplace. Her hair hung down in curly braids and she was absorbed in her phone.I snapped to an

BlueI swiped at my face to make sure I was seeing right. He was standing in front of the door, just inside the doorway while I faced him, trying to get out."You." I breathed, my brain trying to figure out what the hell was going on.I'd seen this jacket before, I realized. He was wearing a brown jacket, with frayed arms. He'd been the one in front of me on the line last night. I gasped. "How long have you been following me?"He looked at me, and I finally saw his face in the bright light of day.Brown hair was dark now. Perhaps the glow of the lantern in that din of a dungeon had made me think it brown, when it was black. His eyes were brown though, and the thick eyebrows rose up and down as his lips tipped in frown. He sidestepped me, walking past me to one of the bathrooms. He entered a stall and slammed the door in my face, all the while staring stonily at everything else but me, and saying nothing. The door banged against the frame and slid open a fraction, but he made no furthe

Blue"Hey redhead! You're cutting!"It took a beat before I remembered I was a redhead now.I turned to glare at the voice, not sure what to say to the woman when I eventually saw the two kids she held in front of her.She dropped their hands and came to me, moving into my personal space. She smelled of sweat and a bone deep tiredness."Some of us got here before you, and you think you can just cut and get in like that? Think you're smart?"she barked, her words landing directly in my face.I stretched out a hand and pushed her back as she stumbled back two paces. "You're spitting in my face." I mumbled, wiping my face with the back of my hand.I didn't want her to get louder than she already was.She turned to the rest of the people on the line, waving her hands frantically at me. "She cut in. I saw her before, I was definitely before her on the line, how come she's now in front of me?"I refused to speak to her. This was ridiculous enough as it is. I'd simply come here because I didn

BlueFuck. As if the mess I was in wasn't enough, I was back in New York and..A horn blared in my ears, and I turned so fast, my ankle twinged with the pain. The car whistled to a stop, just inches before my quivering knees. The driver behind the wheel glaring at me.He jumped out of his car, his face red with anger and approached me with the thinly veiled dislike New Yorkers always had on their face.I came to, and stared around, the hazy blanket draped over my awareness dropping away.I was standing in the middle of the road. And the man had almost hit me."Are you crazy? You want to die?!" He yelled, his hands balled into fists.I walked away from him, afraid and in shock. How had I returned here so fast? I'd blinked and all of a sudden, was out of Kandare. My eyes struggled to get used to the busy road brimming with people. This was the evening rush hour.People walked past me in streams, knocking into me and hurrying past without stopping to apologise.Everyone was always in a h

BlueHer grin was wide, like she had just won the lottery. My hands sweated a little bit in apprehension. "It is done."What was done?My puzzled look at her had her shaking her head and muttering under her breath. "They can't find you now. Not until you find the Golden Mandrake.""But how? You haven't done anything." I wondered if she was a dupe, like the manyscammers and swindlers in the human world."How dare you doubt me?" She glared at me and I glared right back.Any time now, Alpha Khals wolves would be on me, and she wasn't doing anything.I glanced back at the far trunks through which they'd come any second now. I could hear the heavy thud of their feet, a lot of them by the sound of it.In a panic, I shot Modesta a pleading look. "Please do something!" I whisper yelled, ready to fall to my knees and beg.My eyes widened in fear as instead of helping me she simply sank under the surface of the water, her red hair floating in the water, until she disappeared fully.I stood, ro

BlueMy heartbeat drummed in my ears as I ran, pushing myself to fly over the roots and bushes on the rough terrain.I could hear their footsteps thundering after me and I could see some creeping up on my sides. They were fast.Breathing hard and nearing exhaustion, I'd been running for hours now, I stopped before the bank of a river. It stretched out all the way around me, with no other visible route over it, in sight. There was no way around it, I had to get in.My hands clutched my chest as I tried to slow down the extremely hard pounding of my heart.Maybe I would pass away from the way my heart was beating so fast, and be spared of all this trouble.Shaking off the deadly thought, I waded into the water.I was careful to step in the shallow parts, knowing fully well that if a strong wave pulled me under I might not be able to swim against the torrent. I had only ever taken dips in swimming pools, and even at the beach I had never ventured far.My legs were freezing in the water a

BlueI couldn't sleep.Despite the fact that I clearly remembered him saying he would only bring me whatever I needed after I fell asleep.I was anxious and my heart kept beating fast, like I was already planning to escape that very night.Like everything that had happened since my arrival in Kandare, this felt surreal.I shifted on my side, my palm pressed down on the cold ground. A sound had me sitting up in the dark and crawling slowly to press my face between the bars.Someone had turned off the lantern that had burned consistently for the last few days. Everywhere was pitch black, as even the holes I took for windows had been locked some days ago.I sniffed the air as something strange filtered into my cell, and my head fell back.It was a pungently sweet smell. It made me drowsy, and I felt the pull of sleep against my eyelids.Startled, I shook my head side to side, trying to stay awake. I'd been too anxious to sleep just seconds ago, so why was I feeling so sleepy now?A shado
