Josie POV
The day had finally arrived. I was eating my meals, and Jenna was pleased with my limited progress. Adam had finally agreed, although Jenna had already decided she said she wanted to give him the illusion of having a choice. I was moved to the holding cells. Jenna did not want to do healing in the dungeons. Not that I blamed her, I would not want too either. It was a dreary place.
As I looked around the room, it was a closed in cell with a door. The only way people could see in was through the door window. And I could see a curtain was placed to block out inquiring minds. I was anxious. I did not realize how badly I wanted this to work. I wanted to feel worthy of being with someone. I wanted too not be a rogue anymore, and I felt like I had the option today.
I did not know what would happen after Jenna attempts to heal me, but I would try my best to get Sam back. I had never experienced hope before. Now I seemed to have it, I did not want to let go of it. I knew I would have my work cut out for me and I would do what I could to make it up to him.
I sit rigidly on the side of the bed looking across the room. I felt like this had been my life for so long although it really was a short period of time that I had been held captive. Had I not come and confronted Adam and his Pack when they had captured my brother I would still be working and away from all this. But then I would not have had a chance to be healed.
I could hear the holding cell main door open, and I felt my body tighten in anticipation. I looked toward the door sharply as there was a brief knock before Jenna walked in. Shortly after she entered Adam and Jack were there. I saw Jack standing at the door briefly glancing my way.
“Come to watch the show?” I ask him with scorn in my voice. I was already tense and was self-conscious of anyone watching me be vulnerable. To be healed you had to be vulnerable. Jenna had conducted an assessment on me first, and what she learned about me had broken me briefly. She saw my history of abuse with my father. She saw how he almost killed me, if Eric had not stepped in and killed my father instead.
She gave me hope, once again. She told me my heart was pure and not tainted with the toxins within my body. The rogue toxin as I thought of it. I knew other rogues suffered with the pain of being a rogue, but I also understand being born to the Rogue King meant a stronger pain. You had the toxins in your core. Most rogues chose their way of life, where we were selected at birth.
I often wondered how the Moon Goddess could be so cruel. I still wondered. I had never met my mother, or if I had, I did not remember her. Nobody ever spoke of her, so I assumed she was dead. Perhaps she was not. Perhaps she was alive and well someplace far away from all of us.
I would be bitter if I learned she had been alive all this time. Bitter that she left us with a monster. Maybe she had no choice. But what mother would leave her children? If I had children with a rogue, I would stay to protect them as best as I could. Maybe I was being naïve. Who would have been able to protect use against the strength of the Rogue King?
Jenna POV
“Alright, I am heading over to get started on healing Josie,” I say to both Adam and Jack. They stand and follow me out of Adam’s office. Adam locks his door before following along behind us. Jack is aware of the process so we talk Pack business so nobody is the wiser of what we will be doing. Most of the Pack would not be happy to know we were doing a healing session on a rogue and a rogue like Josie in particular.
As we walk through the garden to head toward the holding cells we are stopped by an elder. “Alpha Adam,” Elder Fred says. “What is this I hear that Josie has been moved?” he demands of Adam. Knowing this Fred character, he is always in everyone’s business and takes his role as elder a little too seriously if you ask me. “That’s correct Elder Fred. Do you have a problem you need my help with?” Adam asks him. Elder Fred understands he is being cut off, so he shakes his head walking away muttering about this generation of wolves and mistakes.
We all smile at one another recognizing the elder for being a busy body. I can feel my stomach roll a little as I begin to anticipate what will happen once I start. I am remembering the last time I tried to heal Eric, Josie’s twin. He had been the current Rogue King and the tarry substance that covered his organs was horrid. I almost died trying to heal him.
“You can still back out, Jenna. None of us will think less of you,” Adam says through our mind-link. Jack jumps in, “He is right Jenna, there is nothing wrong with changing your mind.”. I look at them both and murmur “Thanks, I am good,” as I look toward the holding cells. I see a few people mingling around and I suspect they are also here to question Josie being moved. I leave it to Adam and Jack to address as I move into the building.
I walk down the hall to where Josie is being housed. I see there is a curtain up in front of the door. I knock softly on the door and then unlock the door with the master key and walk in. I am surprised to see Josie sitting there waiting for me like her life was depending on it. “Wow I am surprised you are up and ready to go,” I say to Josie. “I can hear people milling around out there. I can hear them asking why I was allowed out of the dungeon. I was afraid … I am afraid … you will change your mind,” she says.
I moved toward her when I get a mind-link from Adam, “Do not start without me!” he says as he continues dealing with the little group outside. Adam was adamant he wanted to be here to protect me and pull me back from healing if it got too intense. “I am not backing out, Josie; Adam is dealing with the people outside and then we will get started,” I promise her. I move towards the side table and take a bottle of water. I will need the water and snacks that are laid out to keep up my strength as I heal each organ. It will take some time to get through her stomach first, so I am going to start there. It seems to be the most filled with toxins. And she confirmed for me yesterday it was where she carried a lot of her pain.
Just as I was starting to get antsy, Adam walked into the room and locked the door behind him. Jack was standing guard, so nobody could disturb us during the healing process. Josie looks between both of us anxiously, “Whatever happens, thank you,” she says sincerely. Adam nods at her and I move forward to take her hand. “Let’s just both focus on this working, okay?” I ask her. I need her on board to make this work. Josie nods, “I am in a hundred percent,” she says. “What do you need me to do?” she asks eager to get started.
“I just need you to lay down on the cot,” I say to her. I move to stand beside her as Adam takes a seat off to the side. He knows not to interfere unless things look bad. By bad I mean bleeding from my nose, eyes, or ears. Otherwise, I have told him he needs to expect the process to look bad but likely it is not. I also anticipate that I will be able to stop when it gets too overwhelming.
“Try to open your mind up to the healing, Josie,” I say to her softly as I take a position beside her bed. I move my hands slowly over her body to complete a full scan. I am disturbed to see some tar substance in her brain. I had not seen that in Eric, or rather I had not had time to study Eric. I went to work so quickly I never did a full scan of his body. Her stomach was the darkest and full of the tarry substance so I determined I would start there as I had originally decided.
I spoke with Josie through some of the process. This was so much better than when I had been forced to heal Eric. I decided to really delve into her stomach area. I was less chatty now, as I was absorbing her pain. I do not know how she had endured this much for so long. Eric was evil, so it was not so surprising. It was surprising for Josie to have suffered. I did not understand why or how she had got so much of the substance in her stomach. It took me hours to work on Josie. Every time I cleared a spot the substance would ooze and fill in the empty space. At times I felt it was too much and pulled out of her and back into myself.
Adam was there to wipe my face for me with a cool cloth. He gave me some orange pieces and part of a sandwich to help keep my strength up. When I needed a break, he pulled me into his lap, and I swear now that we had mated and marked one another, he was able to absorb some of the pain I was feeling. The pain always lessened when I was in his arms, and it allowed me to go back at the healing faster.
I murmured along the way to Josie when I could. I told her what a good job she was doing. She kept thanking me when I was not working on her. She could see it was taking a toll. When I finally saw the end of the substance in her stomach, I took another break. The substance was not filling in the empty spaces any longer. It was holding and I had one small part left to heal.
“Jenna,” Josie says while she lies there breathing faster than I would expect. “Yes?” I ask her as I stand to move closer to her. “I feel lighter already. Thank you,” she tells me. “You are welcome, Josie, but do you feel alright? Your breathing has changed,” I say to her. She smiles, “I knew there would be a punishment for trying to heal me. I think I am dying,” she murmurs as her eyes close shut.
Hope you are enjoying the story so far. For those who have read Healing Powers there will be some cross over but I'll try to rework it somewhat when it makes sense to do so. I don't want to miss any relevant details. I will try to get another chapter updated today. If not, tomorrow for sure. Be sure to leave a comment or review. Ellie xo
Jenna POV “We need to get her to the Pack hospital now,” I say to Adam. He stands up mind-linking Jack to advise we were moving. Jack comes in once Adam unlocks the door and picks Josie up as we all run to the Pack house. Adam had also mind-linked Doctor Rivers, the Pack Hospital doctor, to have a gurney ready when we arrived. Doctor Rivers and one of his nurses were waiting and rushed Josie to the designated room. Adam came in behind me with Jack guarding the door. Doctor Rivers excused the nurse waiting for her to leave before looking at me waiting for an explanation. As the door closed, I looked to Doctor Rivers, “I am trying to heal her as I started to heal her brother,” I say to him. He looks at me confused and looks down to Josie. “Why her?” he asks me. “She was innocent in all of this; she deserves a second chance,” I reply to him. He nods as he moves around starting to attach different machines to Josie. “What happened when you s
Jenna POV After diner, I went into my office to check on a few emails. I was planning a Mating Gala in the next week, and I wanted to see who had accepted so far. As a new Luna, I quickly realized we have a lot of unmated wolves in our Pack. I quickly learned that this was the case with other Packs in our alliances. So, I decided to host a gala with the goal for some of our wolves to find their mates. Upon entering a bouquet of white roses catch my attention. I love white roses and it would be just like Adam to leave them for me. With everything going on, he could be so thoughtful. I mind-link him, “Thank you for the beautiful flowers, mate,” I say to him. There is a pause before Adam replies, “I did not send you any flowers.”. Hmmm, I think as I move toward the bouquet first smelling them before I remove the card on the flowers. “From your secret admirer,” it says. I feel a weird feeling in my stomach as Adam walks in looking a
Jenna POV Adam, Josie, and I had briefly discussed the potential of having the tracking device removed but I did advise them it was in an intricate part of the brain. The risk would be high that she would either not make it out of the surgery or would potentially have brain damage. I agreed to consult with Doctor Rivers on his knowledge of doctors who might specialize in this type of surgery with high success rates. The bigger question was why did she have a tracking device inside her? Was it something from her father, or had it been put there for other reasons or by someone else? And who was monitoring it now? Did this mean someone would be coming for her? We had no idea and no way to prepare. Josie asked about Sam for the first time this morning. Adam honestly replied he had not heard from him recently. We had not heard from Sam. Jack had tried to call him with everything that had happened in the past twelve hours but had not had a reply as yet. Jack had ente
Jenna POV “Dad?” I ask confused. My father looks at me with a mixture of embarrassment and frustration. What is he doing here and what happened to the mystery man I was supposed to meet? I looked around the diner once more in case I have missed him, and this is some bizarre coincidence. “Sit, Jenna,” my father says as he gestures to the server to come take our order. As Adam suggested, I refused anything and sat there expectantly waiting for my father to explain why he was here. He ordered himself a coffee with breakfast. He smirked when I refused to order anything, “Did your mate tell you not to take anything?” he taunts me. Again, I am confused by his behaviour. This is not the man I grew up with. I ignore his question considering standing up and leaving. I would not tolerate his treatment of me, regardless of if he was my father or not. “Why are you here?” I ask my father. He takes a sip of his fresh coffee, and simply looks at me.
Jenna POV I try to get away from Adam scrambling on my hands and knees to get to my father. I hated him in this moment, but I did not want him to die. Adam held me back until he was certain the shooter was no longer a threat. He and Jack protected me with their bodies as we hurried to where my father had fallen. I immediately see that my father has a gun shot through the chest. I quickly role him and see that the bullet went through him. I am uncertain what might have been hit with the shot, but it is a good sign that the bullet went through him. I tell Adam so they can start looking to make sure the bullet did not strike anyone in the diner, while I go to work on my father. I do a discreet scan and see that his heart was nicked with the bullet but everything else is fine. I do a quick fix that does not require a lot of my healing efforts. I put my hand over the bullet hole and hold it there while his wolf tries to stop the bleeding. Bein
Adam POV Jenna had taken a seat on the couch. Jack was standing against the wall next to where she sat. And I was sitting behind my desk. I had been advised two warriors were on their way with Tiffany. The door was open in expectation of their arrival. As the warriors entered the Pack house, we could hear Tiffany screaming profanities at the warriors. They clearly were not bothered by her words as they suddenly appeared with her in the doorway. Pushing Tiffany inside she fell to her hands and knees in the middle of my office. As she turned to scowl at the two warriors, I yelled, “Enough!”. She was startled and suddenly looked around the room realizing where she was. A look of fear crossed her face briefly before she smirked at me. She had the audacity to smirk. She stands in front of me, “You called for me, Alpha? Finally, had enough of your Luna?” she taunts. I see Jenna tense out of the corner of my eye, but she does not rise to the
Adam POV I could not believe what I was hearing. Like this made some kind of sense to Alpha Gordon. I could feel the tension and heartbreak that Jenna was feeling. I had wrapped my arms around her, feeling her coldness in the dank dungeons. I tried to move her, but she was standing firm. She was not finished with her father. “What do you get in return for turning me and Josie over?” Jenna asks her father. He looks at her confused. “Jenna, you are safe for now. They have Josie,” he says like he has saved her. “That’s just it, I am safe for now, what happens when they need me? Are you going to kidnap me yourself?” she asks her father. “Jenna, you always were so dramatic,” her father hisses. “What is the harm in healing the men and women to help them?” he asks her. We all look at him incredulously. “You want me to heal an army of rogues who want to destroy Packs?” she asks him slowly. It is like he does not see the harm of what he is sa
Jenna POV It had been a couple days since we had incarcerated my father. My mother had arrived with more flair than I had ever noticed before. When she first saw me, she walked over to me standing beside Adam and Jack. I had expected a hug. What I got was a slap in the face. The parking area echoed with the slap against my face. Adam quickly grabbed my mother’s arm breaking it. “How dare you touch my mate?” he yells at her. “Oh please, you did not want her in the beginning and now you expect me to believe you have changed. It is because she is a healer and the strength she brings to your Pack!” she shrieks. I cringe back hating being reminded of our start. And now I have to wonder if my parents ever really cared for me, or did they only like what I brought to the table? “Why did you bother keeping me a secret?” I ask her as she stands there nursing her broken arm. “What?” she asks me confused with my question. “Why didn’t you tell others I had he
One Year Later …Sam POV As I look around, I see the most important people in my life surrounding me. I smile as I watch Dylan, our pup, try to stand with Josie holding his hands, protecting him from falling. I see Gracie, and Maryse, Jack and Sarah’s little girl, playing on the blanket in the grass. Their parents keeping a close eye on the girls. Miranda and Rick had joined us with their pups. Their four-year-old Brandon and their pup, Lexi were with them. It was not often that Miranda and Rick trusted to bring their children just anywhere, but we had all grown so close after what we went through almost a year ago our trust with each other had grown exponentially. Lexi was also on the blanket playing with the girls … as much as pups can play. They mostly roll around and slobber at this stage, I think with a chuckle. Daniel and Lucas had also joined us. Among all the couples, they struggled the most. Daniel had post-traumatic stress disorder from wha
Sarah POV The entire hospital is complete chaos. So much is happening, so many injured warriors. I was grateful to the Moon Goddess every time someone came in and it was not Jack. I felt on edge as warriors kept being sent in. Some would return to the battle, but others lost their fight. Before I can move to comfort a lost warrior’s mate, my heart jumps in my throat as I see Colby run in with Jack. He was wounded. I scream as I see him passed out and not responding to my calls. As I turn to look to Jenna she starts to move forward until the next person to run in is Rick with Adam and Kate.“We have lost him twice on the way in, we need to get him to surgery now,” Kate demands as she runs to see which operating room is free. Jenna moves forward slowly to Adam trying to heal him of his ailments. “Jenna, we need to move now. There are too many to fix and he is going to bleed out if I do not get him into the operating room now,” Kate says to Jenna.Jenna looks at me,
Sam POV As we take off out the front door of the Pack house, we agreed that Adam and Jack would go with Colby and Kate to the north and we would take Drake and Maddie with us to the south. Sarah was contacting Miranda to organize her witches. Before we hit the forest to shift, Miranda and Rick were beside us. We tore off clothes as we shifted. Paws kicking up the dirt as we raced to the borders wanting to reach our panicked warriors. They were outnumbered and were quickly being overpowered. Suddenly everything went quiet through the mind-links. We were stunned into pushing harder to get there to see what was happening. I reached out to Adam but quickly learned our mind-link abilities were broken. Slowing down I shift quickly as everyone slows around me. “Our mind-link channels are broken with the Pack. We need to proceed with caution,” I say before quickly shifting back into my wolf, Chance, and taking the lead to get us to the southern bor
Daniel POV I was never so scared as I had been when I had been tortured. I knew I was not long for this world when they punctured my lung. When I saw Miranda, I was blown away. That this courageous woman would take a chance for a man she barely knew was beyond my comprehension. There was so very little I could do to thank her for being there at the right moment. I recognized Jenna but I did not recognize the other woman. As if understanding my confusion, she steps forward, “Hi, I am Kate from the Silver Crescent Pack,” she says as she introduces herself. “We are very pleased that you have woken up. It was a little touch and go there,” she adds. “I am sorry, did you say the Silver Crescent Pack?” Daniel asks. “Yes, I am the Luna and a doctor,” she replies wondering about my question. “I am sorry, I heard your Pack name mentioned at the Council. Most recently there was something about watching a girl more closely,” I share with them.
Josie POV No matter what anyone said, I knew they were all putting themselves on the line for me. I was eternally grateful and eternally feeling guilty at the same time. I was learning this is what family did but having never experienced it before it was a foreign concept to me. And it was hard to accept the help that I knew they would force on me. It overwhelmed me in a good way. Looking around the conference room table, we had Colby, Kate, Sarah, Jack, Sam, Adam, Jenna, Miranda, Rick, and myself. Alpha Jared had rushed home to his Pack after the implied threat over Luna Lily and the children she was looking after. Lucas would not leave Daniel’s side – not that I had blamed him. And Alpha Thomas had errands to run in town so he would join us after. “We need to split up when they come. They have already indicated each border would be at risk,” Adam says to the group. “I want to propose that we all go to the first location. If they attack al
Lucas POV I have been sitting by Daniel’s bed since they finished operating on him. I cannot bear to look at my mate without rage taking over my mind. Seeing the abuse Daniel withstood breaks me. I do not know how he survived but I will be forever grateful he had the strength to do so. I watch the consistent blip on the machine indicating he is alive. It has been one day since he came out of the operating room. One day I have had him by my side. I have held his hand. I have spoken with him even though he is still in a coma. I have not left his side. One day that has given the medical team a reason to breathe a semi-cautious sigh of relief. The longer his body kept going, the better chances he had of making a full recovery. His boss has stood by as well. So far nobody but me and the medical team have visited Daniel. That is the way I have wanted it. I needed to know he was safe. And as Colby had reminded us, we did not know who we could trust.
Kate POV I had witnessed my share of injured warriors, but I have never seen a wolf survive this level of torture. There were so many things happening at once it was hard to keep up with them. Even with the Pack Hospital’s doctor, Jenna, and myself – it felt like we were fighting a losing battle. I could hear this man’s mate yelling in the hallway. It was a distraction we did not need. Jenna asked Adam through their mind-link to try and remove him. I understood how hard it was to leave your mate, but right now we needed to focus one hundred percent. As I heard the yelling fade away, I was able to focus more intently on what was happening in front of us. Daniel was crashing as Jenna jumped up trying to stem the blood flow. The gunshot wound was causing us the most worry at the moment. While the other injuries would have to be fixed, the gunshot wound, with the wolfsbane and silver, continued to ooze blood. I needed to get in there and remov
Josie POV It was taking too long. We all knew it. Nobody was saying it, but we knew. She should have returned by now. It had been ten minutes since she had broken her connection with Sarah. Ten long minutes of Rick pacing, everyone watching their clocks. “She will come back. She promised,” Rick mutters. Before anyone could say anything there was this goddess awful sound of something falling. And then suddenly before our eyes was Miranda and Daniel. Both of them full of blood. Rick is the first to reach Miranda, “I am okay, Rick, I am okay,” she says as she passes out. This is normal, I remind myself. Whenever she uses her powers, she needs Rick to help bring her back. Jenna is there to try and reach for Miranda, wanting to check her head wound. From what I could tell it was something Jenna could easily mend as she brushed her hand over it, and it stopped bleeding. Wanting to do a thorough check of Miranda, Jenna murmurs to Rick, “Let’s
Sarah POV I finally had an opportunity to help support this effort. I knew it was minimal but at least I could keep track of Miranda. I would feel when she would have to cut the attachment to me. Me sharing my powers allowed her to extend the use of hers so it would give her an extra ten minutes at best. Rick stands and starts to pace. I say nothing. Nobody offers any words of platitude. There is nothing that can be done or said to make this any better. Kate and Jenna are discussing strategies quietly for when Miranda arrives back. Strategies that include if she is compromised in any way. Jack moves towards me, but I shake my head no. Anything could break our connection and it was not going to be me being distracted. The longer I could hold the connection, the longer she would have support. We did not know what she would encounter when she arrived, but my added powers would ensure her success. I wish I could see what she was seeing. I wi
