Alissa closed her eyes in prayer, if someone were to challenge and win Alissa may be free. She swallowed hard in anticipation, her hands grasped together in front of her stomach in hope and prayer. If the Moon Goddess could have one hint of mercy for her she hoped it would be within this moment. She begged one person to say ‘aye’. One person to see they could beat Luca. It had happened before, Alissa remembered the history lesson her mother had told her of their ancestor who overthrew the Wuffaman’s. But that was almost three hundred years before, and hadn’t lasted long.
While Alissa prayed, begged, pleaded. Cain and the Elders continued to look over the crowd, surveying each face with piercing eyes. Nobody made a sound. Satisfied, Cain stepped down as Alpha, he bowed to his son to bring the ceremony to a close.
Every pack member walked up to the new Alpha accepting him and pledging their loyalty. Alissa was not included in this, she had been allowed to stay but had never had her initiation. So she stayed to the back trying to be invisible. She pressed her back firmly against the tree, despair of her one hope being dashed, crashed around her while she watched Jack pledge his loyalty.
Luca as new Alpha announced the beginning of celebrations, adding duties were suspended tomorrow. Everyone cheered and the pack broke out the drinks. Alissa waited for the chatter to reach uncomfortable levels. The strange feeling of her wolf within her, after so long she felt uncomfortable as she fluffed her fur, shaking her head within her. Alissa decided that it was time for her to make her exit so she grabbed a bottle of wine, she’d drink it in her room alone, but her wrist was swiftly caught.
“What do you think you’re doing?” a deep voice came from next to her that sent dread deep within her. “N-nothing.” She shook under his grasp. His hand twisted the skin of her wrist. “B-Beta Blake…” She winced as she felt the bones groaning under his grasp.
“Just because the new Alpha stated duties are suspended… do you really think that applies to you?” He ripped the wine from her hand.
“N-no Beta Blake,” she whimpered as a small crack shot pain up her arm.
“Good girl, now leave,” he sneered down to her, his deep brown eyes boring a hole in the top of her head as she daren’t look at him. She stumbled a step when he let go, before walking backwards away from his tall broad frame, slipping into the trees.
Alissa felt something solid behind her, turning around she felt strong hands grip around her upper arms. She gasped, scent filled her nose; pine and strawberries. Her wolf growled, 'He's the one.' The wolf hungrily looked up, steel grey eyes and a strong jaw looked down. The new Alpha. A flood of hope flowed through her, if he was her mate she was saved. Her wolf ached inside 'Want,' her wolf growled. Alissa shook her head trying to get the primal thoughts from her head.
Alpha Luca looked deep into her eyes. “Which pack are you from?” Alissa searched his eyes realising he didn't know who she was. He reached his hand to her cheek, gently caressing her smooth skin. Alissa didn't want to tell him, but she had to, “I'm from- your pack.” Her heart started thudding painfully in her chest. “But beautiful, I've met everyone in my pack.” Alissa's discomfort intensified, he was going to work out who she was, she suddenly didn't want the rejection she had always thought would happen, she wanted the feel of him, her wolf hungrily wanting to get closer.
His handsome features twisted into a sneer, “It's you.” His hand had stilled against her, he was still holding onto her with his other hand. She knew who her mate was, this was when he would tell her he accepted her. Alpha Luca placed his hand on Alissa's face, she relaxed for a moment before he grabbed her chin roughly. He pulled her face to his, “I've heard all about you,” he spat as he peered into her upturned face, the moon casting light over her features. He shook his head, “How could you do something like that?” his voice softer than before.
“I didn't-” she began to protest before he threw her bodily away from him. Her back hitting a tree winding her. She yelled out in pain as he strode back to the pack, not looking back once.
Alissa felt everything inside her break, her world shattered. Her wolf began to whimper. She was going to be a slave forever, she curled up amongst the twigs and dirt. Another course of despair racked her body with sobs. Alissa didn't notice a shift in her bones, the previous block had disappeared. Her blood began to burn, her sobs turned to animalistic whimpers. She writhed on the floor as the pain began to hit her in waves, it distracted her from the hopelessness that had begun to engulf her.
Alissa's hands elongated and sprouted grey and brown fur, her shoulder bones popped and misaligned. She let out an involuntary cry of pain, but then it was over. She looked down to her paws, surprised. She looked around the trees, her golden eyes could see better in the dark. She swiped her paw against the dirt enjoying the difference between skin and paw pad. The grey and brown wolf howled to the new moon then ran throughout the night.
She ran to their perimeter, a wall of dirt and stone blocked her path. She jumped trying to get a footing on the rocks that stuck out. Her wolf let out a frustrated howl as she fell. 'There's nowhere for you to go' she argued with herself. Her wolf demanded survival, her human side demanded rationality. She pulled her wolf away from the barrier reluctantly.

Alissa looked at the clock, the sun blinding her. She swore, it was eight in the morning. She was almost two hours late, and covered in dirt, she didn't have time to sort that out. She threw clothes on and scraped her hair into a bun as she ran down the stairs. No-one was in the dining room, she breathed a sigh of relief. She reached the kitchen, Natalie and Alpha Luca were sitting at the kitchen table. “You're late.” Natalie strode forward and grabbed Alissa's hair pulling her to the stove. “Our new Alpha is hungry.” Natalie pushed Alissa away from her.
“I'm sorry Alpha, sorry,” she gasped and started cooking. Alpha Luca gave no inclination that he remembered or cared what happened the night before. Natalie went up to him and put her arms around him, just as the others came in.
“Breakfast not ready yet?” Michael sat down heavily making the chair creek.
“No, she was out with a bloke last night.” Kristen laughed, Alissa looked around to see a look of anger on Alpha Luca's face. Blake threw back his dark haired head and gave out a bark of laughter, “No way, who would go with her? She's a virgin.” Alissa slammed the plate of sausages on the table, her face glowing red. She turned around quickly to get the rest of the breakfast while they laughed at her. “Where's Jack?” Michael asked, Alissa continued to look at the frying pan the eggs were cooking in. “Probably still asleep, it was a late one last night,” Blake responded, mutters of agreement went around the table.
“Omega, get my mate more bacon.” The pack stopped and looked at Natalie who kissed Alpha Luca, he didn't pull away. “What?” Alissa spun around.
“Bacon,” Natalie spat back, Alissa looked at the scene before her and she felt a pang in her chest as a tear slipped from her eye. A cloak of darkness surrounded her. A numbness started that she couldn't explain. Her body turned on autopilot as her brain appeared to disconnect from her.
Alissa pulled a few slices of raw bacon from the paper and put it on a plate. “What the hell is this!” Natalie screamed, Alissa gave a feeble shrug, she didn't care. “I'll teach you a lesson you'll never forget!” Natalie got up and punched Alissa square in the face, knocking her to the floor. The pack stood in unison apart from the new Alpha, who remained as he was.
Blake kicked her, his face twisted into a joyous sneer. Michael hesitated, but his boot smashed into her thigh, her stomach. Pain just kept coming. She didn’t even know where it was, where the kicks were landing. She curled up into a ball, trying to protect herself, wanting to disappear. “Let's see if she can heal from this.” Natalie started dragging Alissa towards the stove, the two boys helped. “Hold her!” Natalie ordered and Michael held out one of Alissa's arms. Natalie pushed her arm down on the searing iron of the stove top. The smell of burning flesh filled everyone's nostrils.
Pain like no other exploded where the iron sizzled. Alissa let out an involuntary scream and twisted her arm free of their grasp while they howled with laughter. Alissa looked frantically around. She saw Kristen stood to one side, a feeble laugh escaping her. A conflicting look crossing her features. Alissa saw Alpha Luca, still sitting at the table; he wasn't laughing. She pleaded with her eyes for him to help, before Blake moved in front of her as she felt more kicks hit her broken body. Her fight ebbed from her, her wolf let out a small whimper. The numbness engulfed her body, this was how she was going to die, on the cold kitchen floor.
“What are you doing?” Jack’s voice came from the door, Alissa desperately tried to shield herself from another kick, “We're teaching this piece of scum a lesson,” Michael sneered. “Michael, listen to yourself, she's your baby sister! She's done nothing wrong!” Jack pushed Blake out the way. Alissa breathed a small sigh at the reprieve, she curled her bloody frame tighter, preparing for the next onslaught knowing it would come.
Arms snaked around Alissa, lifting her gently but firmly from the floor. The pack looked at him in disbelief. She winced as he pulled her into him, “Jack, just let them.” She looked at Jack with dull green eyes. “Just let them kill me, I can't survive like this,” her voice sounded as dead as her eyes. Jack picked her up and settled her on a chair. “What are you doing? Don't touch her!” Natalie took a step forward, Jack moved in front of Alissa, shielding her.
Alpha Luca finally stood “Enough!”
Alissa sat in the chair shaking, her adrenaline depleting until she could feel every cut and bruise that was surfacing on her body. Her wolf whimpered at the pain as much as she wanted to. The light within the kitchen felt blinding while she tried to listen with muffled hearing to what was going on around. “What do you know Jack?” Alpha Luca spoke, his deep, eloquent voice rippled through the room. Jack turned to face him, “Alpha, Alissa was accused of something she never did. An assumption was made and no-one cared about the truth. Just that they had a scapegoat. They've made her life a living hell ever since.” Jack took a breath. Michael snorted, “You saw her covered in blood... She turned and lost control, she took our parents by surprise and slaughtered them... she's a murderer.” Michael looked from Alpha Luca to Jack. Jack shook his head, “I saw her first turn, it was slow and painful. She came to me three months after our parents died. She was pale and sweating, she started co
Jack strolled back into the infirmary, a women in her thirties following close behind, “Let’s see…” Felicity ummed as she quickly looked Alissa over without speaking to her. “I think I have some aloe for the burn, what burnt her?” She turned, addressing Jack.“I’m not sure Aunt Felicity.”“The arga,” Alissa mumbled. “One moment Jack, I need to check her other injuries,” Felicity informed him, Jack nodded and turned. “Your bruises are forming nicely,” Felicity stated, pulling Alissa’s t-shirt to check where she pointed to pain. Felicity went through pressing on bones and feeling for any breaks. “Nothing’s fractured that I can feel.” Felicity pulled Alissa’s top down “She’s decent, I’ll just get the ointment and dress the burn,” she announced while Jack turned back around, sitting in a chair between the two beds. “What do you think’s happening?” “Well Luca just called for Natalie, I think he’s talking to everyone, he just shouted her name as a command.” “Hate I can’t hear Alpha comm
Alissa stepped back into the main house late morning the next day. It felt different, the entrance way looked brighter, like the sun was shining through every window, basking it in a warm glow. Alissa heard voices in the sitting room. She turned away from the room, she couldn't see them. She made her way upstairs. Her foot was on the first step up to her room, “Alissa,” she heard Luca's voice, she turned to face him. “Alissa can I talk to you?” Alissa hesitated, “I…”“It won't take long.” He made his way down the corridor, she didn't know what to do but decided to follow the Alpha. He led her downstairs to the other end of the house, he opened the door to the games room. Two pool tables stood next to each other to the left hand side of the room. With comfortable dark green leather sofas placed in front of a fire to the right. He sat on one of the sofas and Alissa sat on the other. Alissa shifted uncomfortably, she was worried what Luca was going to say. She was half expecting the co
Alissa walked into the tree line to get undressed, a slight nervous flutter in her stomach as Luca undressed in the open, she thought he was such a show off. She put her clothes on a tree stump and got ready to transform, she dropped to her knees in the green undergrowth. “Come on, Wolf,” she muttered as not a lot happened. She willed, she begged her wolf to take hold, “Hurry up!” she heard Luca in her brain, her wolf reared its head with his voice. She rolled her eyes but the change took hold. A wolf burst out of the tree line, Alissa's grey with strands of brown flecks wolf padded over to Luca's huge honey brown form, resembling the colour of his hair. Even in wolf form Luca was a foot taller than Alissa – an Alpha Wolf. They walked together into the trees, tails swishing, before Luca's voice shouted, “Go.” To which he broke into a run. “No fair,” Alissa called back and ran after him just seeing his tail whip from view. Alissa went as fast as she could to catch up, but she was st
Luca's hands rested gently over Alissa's eyes as he walked her down the corridor, she heard a door open and then the hands left her eyes. Blinking, she gradually became accustomed to the light in the room. Luca stood in the middle with his arms wide open, “Tah dah! welcome to your room.” He smiled. Alissa looked around the room, she hadn't been in this one before. A wooden bed stood to one side, a carved headboard against the wall, a floral bed sheet adorned the bed with matching dark blue throw cushions arranged neatly against the pillows. A throw also sat to the end of the bed, matching the throw cushions. She had a suspicion Kristen had done that, she couldn't see Michael, Blake or Jack arranging throw cushions.A dressing table was on the same wall as the door. Opposite, a bookcase nestled between the two windows which were framed in curtains that matched the dark blue silk of the throw and cushions. There were two doors on the other side of the room to the bed, she opened the fi
Alissa's eyes fluttered open, something had woken her but she didn't know what. She closed her eyes again before she heard another knock on her door, she rubbed her eyes. “Come in” Alissa sat up in bed as she saw Michael coming in with a tray. “Hey Ali, how you feeling?” He looked sheepish and uncomfortable. Alissa hadn't been called that in a long time, it had been her dad who shortened her name. She mumbled at him partly tired, partly still angry at him. “I made you breakfast.” He placed the tray on her lap. Alissa looked down at the jam toast, a coffee and orange juice. She gave Michael a small smile and thanked him as he left. After breakfast she showered and got ready. Opening the drawers of the dressing table she found make-up, hair straighteners, curlers and all products you could ever want for. Her hands went over them, but she landed on the hair ties and put her long hair in a side plait. Pinning unruly parts in place. She allowed her hand to graze along the bannister of
Early the next afternoon, Luca's booming voice could be heard from the sitting room, “Pack meeting!” It made Alissa's spine tingle. She turned to the sitting room hesitantly. She hadn't been involved in pack meetings before and was unsure if this included her, after all, she wasn’t a member of the pack officially. She poked her head round the door frame, Luca and Jack were the only ones there so far. Luca looked up and smiled warmly, “Alissa, come and sit.” Alissa looked around, was she ready to see everyone? Luca obviously noticed her hesitation and guided her to an armchair, keeping his hand on her shoulder. “Luca, I-” She wriggled against his grip. “Everyone has something to say, also you need to know how things are changing under my charge.”Alissa squirmed under Luca's strong hand. She knew she couldn't outdo his strength but she wanted to run, her wolf wanted to stay. She didn't want that hand to move, it radiated heat and power and her wolf was hungry for it, 'I want him,' h
Alissa felt tired after so many people being around. She stood up and rubbed her head, Luca stood too as if he were to follow. Alissa shook her head, “I'm fine, I just need some time alone.” She left the room, hearing Jack's voice behind her, “It's going to take time.”Alissa left the house, she needed fresh air. The house felt so stuffy after the whole pack had invaded the house. She stripped just beyond the treeline and Alissa felt her wolf take over her insides as her skin burnt with fur breaking through. She groaned as slowly she felt the transformation take hold. Her vision shifted to the yellowed spectrum. She shook her wolf head before starting to run. Her large grey paws pounded the woodland floor, her four limbs still not wishing to coordinate, making her stumble and slow until her rhythm returned. Alissa's wolf's primal urges took over her mind, she allowed them so her thoughts could be simple, 'hunt, sleep, fight and mate' became her only thoughts as she ran.A scent caugh
Alissa nursed her baby, she cooed down to him, his perfect tiny fingers gripped at her finger while he suckled. “Aunty, where's daddy?” Peta entered the room and sat at Alissa's feet.“He's keeping you safe little one, he loves you so much, come here.” She shifted her baby so Peta could climb on her lap.He peered up to her questioning, “I want daddy.” Tears welled in his emerald eyes.Alissa curled his chin length hair around her fingers. “I know, darling, he has to do his job though, but he has to keep us safe doesn't he? Or he wouldn't be a good wolf.” A large tear fell from Peta's eye. The little one had been very clingy recently.Maybe it was the birth of her and Luca’s little bundle of jo
Alissa couldn’t help flicking her glance to Luca every now and then, it may have been a few days but she still felt he was going to disappear within a moments notice. He caught her eye and opened his arms, dragging her into his body as soon as she was in arms reach. “It’s all going to be alright,” he whispered. She sunk into him, everything felt so right, his arms, his heat, the pressure of him against her body. It was what she needed.“Be better when we’re back home too,” he reassured.Alissa nodded against him, nuzzling slightly. “I miss home,” she whispered. He rocked her gently, squeezing her against him. “Me too, I wish the investigation hadn’t taken so long but at least it’s a
Luca grasped Alissa’s hand tightly as Rufus lead them through the council building to the sitting room beside the meeting room where the Alphas were filing into. “I’ll be right with you,” Rufus directed to the Alphas before following Luca and Alissa in.“Do you have any idea what’s going on?” Luca asked.“I don’t, in truth. I wish to listen to them all regarding their concerns but… please, tell me what happened. I’ve heard Alissa’s perspective, I need yours.”Luca nodded, sitting the the cream sofa, tugging Alissa with him, not wanting to let her go. “From the beginning?” he asked to clarify.Rufus nodded, “Please.”
“I second that query, High Council.”Alissa frowned. A voice she knew so well permeating into her mind. She knew she was hearing wrong, knew that voice wasn’t real. It couldn’t be real… but it sounded so real.Gasps erupted around them, from everyone, not just the council. A ripple of surprise spread from everyone.Michael grabbed her hand and she almost had the confidence to look up but didn’t. She couldn’t look, she didn’t want to confirm or deny it was his voice. She didn’t want to know.“My land is not up for discussion, let alone on a day like this. But it is my land, High Council.”“Alpha Wuffaman,” High Council Vilkaman bre
The sun was warmer than it had been for months, the beginnings of spring poking through barren trees, dandelions budding within the dewy, luscious grass that looked inviting despite what the day was. Alphas, families, betas, and probably some others were sat, some on chairs, some on the grass, some had rolled up sleeping bags beneath them. It looked like any congregation when their packs came together but this felt very different. It felt wrong. It felt unjust.Alissa stood beside Michael on a slightly raised stage to the side, the white council house to their backs, the sun almost blinding them as it rose high above the trees. The council was assembled… All six of them were assembled (including Raoul much to her displeasure) at the front of the congregation. A congregation to mourn for her mate. Her pack, her nephew, her brother, her friends.
After getting changed, Alissa popped the wet, stained shirt on the arm of the sofa, unsure where to put it before sitting nervously. Her mind wasn’t really working properly, that was what it felt like. She felt she’d been given more information than she could process and arrange in her tired, dishevelled mind. There was a knock on the door and she was up off the sofa, taking long strides towards the door, “Yes, come in,” she called before she got to the door, wanting the door open.Michael stepped in, his hair as disheveled as his clothes. There were rings under his eyes and he looked just as bad as before he’d gone away… maybe worse. Alissa didn’t even give him time to look before she lunged at him, wrapping herself around him, clinging to his neck.&ldqu
Luca was vibrating, desperate to not let his anger out but he was finding it hard. Not knowing… Not having a clue what was going on. Angry Malachi had downed him, and he had no idea why.Alissa. Where was Alissa?“I’m going into the pack. I’m not sitting here like some prisoner,” Luca stated, a tiny rumbling growl through his words.“The pack member, Steve told us to stay here for safety,” Henry announced calmy.“He didn’t tell me.” Luca stood, he wasn’t some pup to be told to stay put. Fuck that.“I’ll be back soon,” he told the room, heading for the door.&ldq
He watched a car move away, just knowing Alissa was within. A feeling a safety moved over him… at least knowing Alissa was safe. He wasn’t safe though. A wolf body slammed him, sprawling him to the floor but he didn’t reach the floor, he kept falling… and falling. He was running through the woods, Aunty Dotty clinging to his arm as he kept moving, he was getting her to safety… he just knew that.Aunty Dotty slipped from his arm… she was safe with humans, a human ally, his vision shifted and changed, a new landscape before him, scents flooded his nose, he needed to keep going, keep moving. There was a scent he had to find. He panted, pushing himself to follow the scent. He hadn’t stopped, hadn’t slept. It was a vagrant’s scent he was hunting… although whether it wa
His hand fastened tighter over her mouth, preventing any breath to escape. She wriggled and struggled in his hold only for a panic to blind her as his other hand came up, his fingers pinching her nose.He was going to smother her.She stamped her feet down, struggled and fought with all her strength. She shook her head, desperate to get his hand dislodged enough for her to suck in a breath. She would not die today.Black crept into the edges of her vision so she struggled harder only for her head to spin from exertion with no oxygen. She stamped her foot down, landing squarely on his but it didn’t release his hold. He was infallible, regardless what she did nothing was working. She was running out of time. In a last ditch attempt, she threw her bo
