Chapter 4 Two Year Contract

When Emmanuel arrived home, he told his wife, Rosemary, that Victoria Lewis had agreed to marry his son. Rosemary was so upset, she left him in the living room and went straight to their bedroom.

Emmanuel followed her to their bedroom and tried to coax her, “my dearest wife, I am sorry I was impulsive.

I understand that you asked me to discuss this matter with James first, but I was scared that James would agree to this marriage, but Victoria would refuse, so I wanted to approach her first to find out. Don’t be upset, I will listen to you. Please forgive me.”

“Why didn’t you call me to meet this girl before you signed the contract?” asked his wife, looking at him. “My sweetheart, I will ask her to come here after James agreed. However, I brought the contract home.

You can read it.” He took the contract and gave it to his wife. Rosemary took the contract and read it and said, “Why did you ask for two years? It is too long, my son wants to marry Serene Logan as soon as possible. Changing it to one year.”

 Her husband was surprised that his wife was not against his idea. “My dearest wife, two years is not a long time. Our son is twenty-five years old.

In two years’ time he will be twenty-seven and it is the right age to marry. Let us leave the contract as is,” said her husband while kissing her.

“If my son refuses to marry this girl I will support him. My son’s happiness comes first,” said Rosemary. “I hear you, my sweetheart, I will listen to you. Please do me a favor, please call James to visit us the day after tomorrow,” said Emmanuel.

James was close to his mother; he loved her very much and he listened to her. “I told you that I didn’t want to be involved. Are you scared now after you signed your son’s happiness to a stranger?” asked his wife and became upset again.

Emmanuel hugged his wife and kissed her for a long time. Eventually, his wife agreed to help. Emmanuel was so happy he thanked his wife. “I’m so hungry love, have you eaten?” asked Emmanuel, looking at his wife with love.

He loved her so much; he didn’t want to see his wife upset. “I was waiting for you hubby, let us go to the dining room to eat,” said his wife with a smile.

At the Lewis mansion, Patrick was talking to his daughter. “My dearest daughter, it was brave of you to sign that marriage contract, but you don’t need to go ahead with this loveless marriage.

I love you so much more than anything, and I want to see you happy. You are not going to be happy in this marriage, it will bring you pain and heartache. Please reconsider my dearest daughter.”

Victoria looked at her dad and said “Dad, when I saw you with pills in your office I nearly died. The Johnsons gave us the lifeline and I am grateful. Daddy, I know that James has a girlfriend that he wants to marry.

I will guard my heart and after two years I will come back to you. Then I will look for my Prince Charming. Don’t worry about me daddy, your daughter is smart. I’m so grateful to the Lord for answering my prayers.”

As soon as Patrick Lewis received funds from Emmanuel Johnson, Patrick called his Assistant, George Gale, to arrange the meeting with the shareholders and directors of the company tomorrow morning at 9:30.

He was exhausted, he made a short prayer, he thanked the Lord for giving him a second chance. If his daughter hadn’t come to his office at that time, he would be in the morgue right now.

He was so grateful to his daughter for the sacrifice she made even though his heart was sore. He fell asleep quickly since he had sleepless nights for a few days. Patrick Lewis woke up refreshed and went to work to attend the meeting.

At the Lewis Group, in the conference room, the shareholders and directors for every department were present. They were wondering what happened since last night they didn’t receive any news regarding the cooperation.

When CEO Lewis entered the conference room, the atmosphere was tense, they stopped talking and looked at him with hopeful eyes.

CEO Lewis greeted them and said, “the Johnson Group will cooperate with us, and they will take a 5% share of profit. Therefore, no employee is going to lose his job. Please go back to your department and tell your subordinates to work hard.”

The company had been saved and everyone was so happy. They were grateful to CEO Lewis. When the employees heard the news, they were so excited, and they promised to work harder.

After the meeting, Patrick and his daughter went to his office. “Victoria, please advertise the Finance Director position or headhunt someone if you have anyone in your mind.

I will audit the books every month. What happened in the company will never happen again. I was so careless, I nearly went home before my time. I am so ashamed, my dearest daughter.

Please forgive dad, I promise you I will never try to commit suicide again. Should something happen, we would resolve it together. The Lord blessed me with a kindhearted, beautiful daughter. I’m really grateful my sweetheart.”

Victoria flashed a big smile and said, "Daddy, I will advertise the Finance Director post. I prefer the internal person to motivate our employees to work hard. In the Finance Department there are good candidates.

Daddy, please remember, nothing is impossible with the Lord and don’t worry about me, everything will be alright. I prayed about this matter, and I also asked the Lord to soften James’s heart when his parents spoke to him to agree to their proposal, so I am not scared he will agree, daddy.”

Victoria was a woman of faith, and she was courageous. She believed that nothing would happen to her life by mistake, so it was the path that she must take.
