She entered the hall, and just like the last time, she had to sit facing the three men as she took her call. The only difference was that this time, she was not shy. She took a seat opposite them and held the gaze of the man who stared most intimidatingly at her the last time. She picked up the phone. “My goodness, why are you unreachable nowadays?” Her father’s voice boomed over the phone. “Are they trying to keep you away from me?”Racheal said nothing. What did he think this was, what was he expecting? He sold her off and even agreed to the conditions. “Have they been telling you I called?” He asked“No.”“Why would they do that? That's not the agreement.” Roni Rana said angrily over the phone. “What is this I hear about you being locked up? Is it true?”Racheal wondered how he knew that? Only a few people here even knew that. How did he learn that information all the way there in Xen?“Why are you not saying anything?” Her father barked suddenly, startling her. “Were you truly
Racheal stood up to check the dress, seizing the opportunity to avoid Jade's question. Of course she was distrusting, how could she not?She took the wrapping off the box and opened it. Her dress sat neatly inside it. “Thought I'd swapped it with the wrong dress?” Jade said. Racheal turned in exasperation at the badgering, “Look…” She began but stopped. She saw the laughter dancing on Jade's face. She smiled, and then they both burst into laughter. Luna and Lyda soon arrived with a large platter of hor d'oeuvres, a bowl of diced fruits and a bottle of white wine. Racheal gave the girls a look. White wine so early in the morning? But she said nothing. “Ever thought of modelling?” Jade asked, looking at her as she forked a piece of Antipasto Skewers into her mouth. Racheal nodded. “Others have mentioned it again and again.”“Well you should try it. You'll become both popular and rich.” Jade said. “Not that you really need any of those things, but extras always help.”Racheal smile
“I already have a dress for the party.” Racheal said, looking at the large garment rack between her and the beauty team. “I don't need a dress, thank you.”“They are all paid for already, ma'am.” The leader of the team said.“What?” Racheal looked at them in disbelief. This was not how it worked. She should have been given the option to pick a dress from the bunch, and they would have returned the rest. Looking at the garment rack that held at least thirty fancy dresses, she wondered what the president wanted? Why was he suddenly being so generous?“I'd still like to wear my dress.” She said. The beauty team leader shrugged and pushed the hanger aside. Her maids began to transfer the dresses to her closet, as the team went to work. They buffed her nails and scrubbed her feet. Scrubbed her skin and masked up her face, trimmed her hair an inch so they could better style it. They were in her suite all day. By late noon they were finally satisfied that her skin was ready for makeup.
“Ma'am.” The guard called again, getting Racheal’s attention. “This way.”She looked at him. He did not seem to be giving her any choice, so she went with him. They left the rooftop without anyone noticing, and rode the elevator down, the party music fading into the background. They stepped out of the elevator, and a surprisingly large troupe of presidential guards led her to the president’s suite. This was her first time in this part of the villa since she arrived here. She waited outside a huge door, as a guard went in to announce her arrival. He came out shortly, and opened the door widely for her to go in. Racheal inhaled deeply, banishing all her anxieties away, and walked in. Now would be the worst time to have a panic attack. “Daughter-in-law.” Spencer said cheerfully as she walked in. He stood up and walked around the desk to her. He hugged her briefly, and kissed her on both cheeks just like he had done on her wedding day.She tried to smile politely at him, but her smil
“I do not like how distant you and Spencer are. It almost seems like you are a single woman.” Spencer Sherrod said. Racheal looked at him, speechless.“I will have Steffan join you in this your new job, especially if the press would be there. He is a busy man, but he will clear his schedule if I ask him to.” Spencer Sherrod continued. Racheal could not find the words to say. She could not believe this was happening again. Her freedom was about to be squeezed even tighter. She enjoyed being on her own, not answerable to a husband she didn't even love.“You know I am not doing this to be wicked right? How can you give me grandchildren if you both are so far away.” Spencer Sherrod said.Racheal’s jaw dropped. “Yes. Our pact with Xen will be useless if you do not have children to make the country really one. And the coterie will start asking questions if you are not pregnant soon.” Spencer Sherrod said, stood up, and turned his back to her. That was it. He'd said what he wanted to and
Racheal had little doubt she would escape this. Thalia was insane, why had she not thought of this before. A woman this obsessed with her married ex had to be a little crazy in the head. She could scream for help, she should, but over this loud music she doubted anyone would hear her. Then she felt strong hands yanking her. A scream escaped her throat, but to her relief, she was being yanked away from the edge, not over it.She looked up to see who rescued her, and found herself staring at an angry Skylar. Skylar looked livid, and all her fury was directed at Thalia. She soon pounced on her, despite security trying to tear her off.It seemed she finally found a way to let out all the anger she had. bottled in for days now, from her own frustrations. Racheal was mortified at the scene Skylar was forced to cause on her own wedding day because of her. The wedding guests soon crowded them and the president thundered,“Stop!” Before Skylar finally got off Thalia. Racheal saw Isaac rush
Steffan stepped back. For a few seconds, the anger in his eyes was replaced by hurt. But it disappeared just as quickly as Racheal had seen it.“You really think I am such a monster.” He said flatly. It was not a question, and there was no emotion in his voice. He turned away, and continued undressing. Racheal stood and just stared at him, unsure of her next words. She had always known this day would come, since the day her father announced the wedding. But did she really want to share a bed with this man?Was she ready to start truly living as man and wife with this man? She suddenly missed the life she had the past few weeks. She had thought she was suffering, but she was left alone. Her time was hers alone, and she did not have to stare at Steffan’s face, inhaling his scent even though she was angry at him.She was still standing as he walked towards the bathroom. Their bathroom, that is what she thought it was now. He returned almost immediately, pinning her with his gaze. His
Racheal was disappointed when she stepped back into the bedroom. She had hoped she would be able to sneak under the covers before Steffan returned from the bathroom. But apparently, she had wasted too much time in the closet, and Steffan was done bathing. She steeled herself, and began to walk to the bed, very aware that his eyes were glued to her body. In the safety of the thick white bed covers, she finally let out a sigh of relief. She stayed as close to the edge of the bed as much as she could. Her body was strung up at the knowledge that Steffan, her legal husband, was lying just a few inches away on the king sized bed.He said he was no monster, but she could not help being so nervous around him. Is this how all their nights would be?Perhaps she may become more relaxed around him, especially after she got more decent nightwears. She could not help feeling sad at how much more complicated her life just got.A lot has happened since last night. Danna Sherrod’s secret, the pres
