Nix’s POV During the journey back to the palace, Eden slept with her head on my shoulder. Parker was sitting on the other side of her. We sat in silence. I don’t know what he was thinking about, but my thoughts were about Millie. I still blame myself for her death. I have to let Caren know. I have to tell her it is my fault Millie died. I need to beg her and Lottie’s forgiveness. I looked out of the window. What would my mom make of me being responsible for Millie’s death? Tears filled my eyes, a lump formed in my throat. I give a small sniffle. “Don’t,” Parker says. “Please don’t. It will start me off again.” I guess he is thinking of her, too. I nodded at him once and regained my composure. As soon as the car came to a stop, I picked up my sleeping mate. “Ethan, wake up.” I heard Parker saying. “What? Uh? Where am I?” Then I saw Ethan on the palace steps. “No one here knows me. They wouldn’t let me inside. I had nowhere else to go. So, I waited.” I laughed at him. He is no
Rayne’s POV It’s early when Dawson mind links me. I hardly slept thinking about everything that had happened. Elizabeth hasn’t unleashed her wrath on me yet. She told me I didn’t need anything else to worry about, not right now. She also told me about how brave my men were at the hospital, but it was Ara that made the most impact. “From a distance, she helped save them.” It’s laughable that until yesterday morning, I never even knew she existed. Now I am indebted to her. I am making my way to Dawson’s office. When I bumped into Nix, he was waiting for Eden. He is talking to a few friends of his, Parker and Ethan. Parker is Maddox’s younger brother. Ethan is a former member of the Wolf Council. “Former?” I asked suspiciously. He lifts his shirt to reveal some horrible scars. “Yes, former. I have been trapped with Parker and Caren since they saved me.” I walked up to Dawson’s office. Dawson is sitting in a chair, obviously thinking. I sat in the chair opposite him. “Where to st
Summer’s POV “How do you know that?” Nix asked me. I stared at him as my eyes filled with tears. “Wait here.” I told him. I made my way out of the room, sharing my shocked emotion with Alexis. I know for a fact that both my mates are behind me. Their curiosity manifested through the bond. We have been together so long that they know everything about my life. But why would they know about Natalia? I knew her before I met them. I enter my wardrobe. Go to the end shelf and, using a chair, I reach up and pull out a worn-out cardboard box. It’s covered in a layer of dust. It’s been a long time since I opened this box. There are memories from my past stored inside. As I headed down the stairs, I clutched it tightly to my chest. Sitting in front of the fireplace. In front of my family and their mates, I opened the box. “Once upon a time, I trained to be a doctor in the human world. It was beneficial for my pack to have someone trained in obstetrics for that time in a woman’
Nathan’s POV This week has been incredibly intense. Looking around the room, I am thankful that my family has survived. In addition, the discovery of my children’s mates has resulted in its expansion. Summer is right, though. What is the goddess up to? What does she want? Both me and Dawson are about to go to our office and speak to Rayne and Ethan again. See if we can figure out what has happened. When we all hear a loud noise and shouting coming from the hallway. We make our way to the door. “I am sick and tired of people attacking us in our own home,” Dawson remarks. We headed towards the door. The disturbance is obviously escalating as the yelling is getting louder. “Stay here.” I tell everyone as me and Dawson head out of the door. I saw some of the royal guards. They’re trapped. Their legs are frozen in ice. “I demand to see the King’s,” a voice booms. “Do we not have enough to deal with?” Dawson mind links me. “Over my dead body.” Rayne’s voice reso
Nix’s POVThe older adults seem to be discussing something. “I have to do it, Diesel. I have to tell them. It is killing me to look at them.” I walked over to them both. “Caren. Lottie, can I have a word? Please.” I said to them both. “Sure.” They both responded, smiling at me. We walked over to the edge of the room. I took a deep breath. “It’s my fault.” I told them both. Eden appears by my side and holds my hand. “It’s my fault she is dead. She used all of her power to get me there. She would still be alive if it wasn’t for me. It’s eating me alive that I haven’t told you. Please forgive me.” I cried into Eden’s shoulder.A hand rests on my back. Convincing me to turn back. I didn’t know what to expect. But I know it wasn’t a hug from both Caren and Lottie. It only lasts a few seconds before they let go. “You’re not the reason she died, Nix. The Wolf Council was responsible for her death. She died because she knew she could help. Power or no power, if she could help anyone, she woul
Summer’s POV “Summer?” a voice shouted my name from the hallway. I went to investigate. “Oh, my goddess. Gale.” I ran towards my brother. I am ashamed to admit it. It didn't occur to me he was missing. “Where have you been?” I questioned him as we hugged. “You have missed so much.” “Do you not remember? They sent me to the Red Moon Pack to help Isaac. I bumped into...” “Gale?” I said, sternly. Cutting him off mid-sentence. No matter what he has to say, I feel what I need to tell him is more important. “They killed Adam. They kidnapped me and Eden.” His eyes widen in disbelief as he looks at me. “He nearly killed us. The Wolf Council attacked the palace.” He puts his hands on my shoulders. “How is Autumn? The baby?” “I haven’t seen her. I know they had to deliver the baby. I am going there now.” “I’m coming. She will need us.” I nodded my head frantically because she would. Then he hugged me again. “Do you know who it was?” He asked me. “Carly’s father. It was
Rayne’s POV We spent forever in that office discussing the future of the entire country. Nathan isn’t holding back; he wants change, and he wants it now. Alpha Dalton is telling him exactly how it’s been for a pack like his. Nathan is less than impressed by the lies the Wolf Council has been feeding him. Ethan offered insight into some reports he was receiving from pack members. The Wolf Council didn’t seem to care about many of the issues that would concern us. Including Alpha’s abusing their authority. “The headquarters of the Wolf Council is to be cleared out. I want everything brought here and assessed,” Dawson states angrily. They decided that the new Wolf Council headquarters were to be built a few miles from the palace. “From now on, we will work together to make our kingdom great for most wolves. No secrets, no talismans. Just leaders working together for the best interest of the people.” Nathan tells us all. Ethan excuses himself as he has someone to meet and
Ethan’s POV The king’s are going on about uniting the kingdom. All I can think about is Ara. I hope she knows I didn’t stand her up this morning. She’s bound to have noticed that I left with the General. It’s nearly lunchtime and they are recapping what they had already discussed when I excused myself. I told them I had someone to meet. Despite feeling impolite, I can’t stand her up. “We’ll talk later,” the General tells me. I’m not concerned with the later. My focus is on the present. I made my way to the stables. I don’t see Ara, but I see John. He knows I am Ara’s mate. “You here to talk to her?” He enquires. “Yes. But she seems like she's always busy, so I'm considering tying her to a chair to talk to me.” He laughs. “That may be the only way.” He goes to walk away. But turns around, “I will pick Brandon up from kindergarten. Take as long as you need. Just convince her she needs you.” He smirks at me. I don’t know how to respond to that. “Mate.”
