Alistair

“The group for intake is just in the conference room this way.” Alpha Lucas informed me. “Gerdie is out on a personal day today so I’m on my own.”

I followed Lucas quietly. He had called me here for one reason. An assassin had crossed into his lands the night before and he had almost fallen for her trap. I was here to ensure none of the new intakes were current or former guild members. The Alpha was in a sour mood after the previous night’s attempted and wasn’t interested in the loyalties of assassins.

I remained close behind him, glancing around at the faces in the crowded room, as he stormed to the small platform against the far wall. Most of the group were women and children with a handful of men disbursed throughout. My previous warning about his lack of security must have aff

Rory “I have the results of the kid’s tests.” I told Maggie as she sat across from my desk. I had called and arranged for her to meet me at the pack hospital after she had sent the children to school. Breaking bad news about her middle child wasn’t something I wanted to do in front of the child. “I am assuming the results aren’t great.” She sighed. “Not exactly. The good news is that Annabelle has the wolf gene, so when she comes of age, she will shift. Deven on the other hand, didn’t have the gene. I’m so sorry Maggie.” I said moving around the desk to sit beside her.&n

Lucas Zane had gotten word to the entire pack that training had been mandated within an hour. I was surprised to find that after two days of running signups, Selene and Alistair had just under eight hundred wolves organized into training times. By the third day after the announcement, training had started. I made my way to the field, having cleared my schedule for the day to help with the influx of new wolves. Alistair had informed me that the first day, he and Selene would be organizing each training group into their own subgroups based on the attention they needed to bring them up to par. It was something I needed to see for myself and it only made sense that the Alpha of the pack would train with them at least the first day. Selene had a keen eye.

I dropped Maggie at the pack hospital on my way to the office, though she seemed much more herself after she had showered and dressed for the day. I strode into the packhouse, adjusting my tie. The Alpha’s of my neighboring packs would be arriving later in the day to be filled on the situation with Cerathe. I had initially wanted to keep it to myself, let my pack handle the threat, but Zane had been adamant that all of the Mercian packs deserved to know that King Jonas was plotting to move against us. Gerdie wasn’t at her desk, having called out again to deal with a personal matter. I made a mental note to assign one of the warriors to greet the Alpha’s as they arrived. I smelled her as I reached the door to my office. The scent of apples and cinnamon filling my nostrils. Pushing the door open, I found Selene seated behind my desk wea

“Last I checked Montgomery, you were the only one who had an issue with the Cerathean king.” Alpha Norman drawled. “I don’t see what your issues with him has to do with the rest of us.” Frowning, I pinched the bridge of my nose between my fingers. It had been over an hour and the majority of the other alphas were still on the fence about joining forces against Cerathe. I had told them everything that Selene and Rory had told me when they arrived at my house almost a week ago, but none of them seemed to care. “What you fail to realize is that my pack is the only thing standing between your own and a king hellbent on genocide.” I huffed. “If I fall, we all fall.”&

Unknown I tucked myself into the bushes, concealing my scent, as I watched the Alpha’s house. Word had gone out that the entire guild was to move on the Dark Moon pack, the King was growing impatient over his soldier’s inability to conquer them. I had slipped into the territory through the main roads, posing as someone visiting on vacation. It wasn’t unusual for wolves to travel back and forth across the border, though those who fled tended to use secret routes to avoid being stopped by border patrols. Not that I could blame them, most of them were refugees from attacks against their pack or family, they would have good reason to be afraid of crossing at the normal places. In the short time I had been in Mercius, I had discovered the Alpha had a mate and children. That information had been omitted from

Between Lucas refusing to mark me and seeing him with Maggie in the restaurant window, I had been avoiding him to nurse hurt feelings. I threw myself into growing my assassin training. Three new wolves had joined us. While Lucas had made the normal training mandatory pack wide, the additional training had been volunteer only. Out of ten wolves who had shown promise in the early stages of pack training, only three had agreed to join my team. I was disappointed, but with time, my numbers would grow. “You think you might wanna ease up on them?” Fenrick asked after one particularly brutal training session. “No. This isn’t like anything we’ve experienced as guild members. We’re defending an entire pack from the king and other a

We followed the scent to the midway point to town. My eyes scanned the thinning woods before me, catching sight of a man’s back. I shifted, snagging clothing from the pack on Vic’s back before signaling for the group to shift and fan out, each armed with weapons and tranquilizer guns from the pack. I crept quietly toward the man, recognizing him as I closed the distance between us. “Hello EJ.” I called out, suppressing a chuckle as he turned wildly toward the sound of my voice. “Alive and well I see.” He replied, a sinister smirk playing on his lips. “No thanks to you.” I sneered. “Come to finish what you started?”&nb

Maggie My hands trembled in my lap as I sat on the exam table waiting for the pack physician to return. Something was wrong, but I didn’t know what. Though I had done well to hide it, I hadn’t been able to shake the fatigue that cause Lucas to send me to the pack hospital a few weeks before. I didn’t want to worry him with the threat of the guild moving on his territory. He had already had one close call with an assassin, I didn’t need my health distracting him on patrol. Though I hadn’t told Deven about the absence of his wolf gene, I knew stress wasn’t the source of my feeling unwell. The tension between Lucas and I at the reappearance of his mate had dissipated. We had returned to a comfortable routine, growing even closer than we had been before Selene showed up. Training with the pack left me feeling more confident, which m

“Damon, Felix, it’s time for dinner!” I called from the dining room. I smiled to myself as the boys stomped into the kitchen like a herd of elephants. Damon was the spitting image of his father. You could hardly tell the difference between pictures of them at seventeen. Felix resembled his grandfather with his mousy brown hair, but he had my striking green eyes. I couldn’t believe he was turning sixteen soon and would be finally connecting with his wolf. “Your father has to work late.” I told them, sitting the steaming lasagna pan on the table. “I expect you both to have your homework and chores done before he gets home. Am I understood?”&n

I felt slightly guilty for leaving Lucas to deal with the execution of the spy Alpha Lauren had brought to us without me. He had agreed that it was too early for me to leave Damon with a sitter though, encouraging me to meet with Rory for lunch instead. Life had been hectic in the months since our wedding. We had only spent the weekend at the cabin, not wanting take too much time away from the pack after everything that had happened with King Jonas. By the time I went into labor, I had a strong group of elite warriors, and Victoria was more than ready to take charge for my maternity leave. With Fenrick by her side, there wouldn’t be any issues. I was glad to see that she was still making time for Rory with the added responsibility as I caught sight of them seated at the café waiting for me.&n

I smoothed my gown, letting my hands settle over my protruding bump as I admired my reflection in the mirror. My mother had done an amazing job pulling everything together for the ceremonies. We had opted to have the Luna ceremony as part of our wedding, inviting the entire pack. Lucas had even set up a streaming option for the pack members that wanted to witness the event and couldn’t attend in person. “You look radiant.” Rory grinned, pinning my veil in my hair. At my mother’s recommendation, I had found a stunning empire waist gown to accommodate my growing belly. The lace overlay added the extra layer of elegance with the added bonus of hiding my white flats. Heels were out of the question. The more my belly grew, the more off balance I became. The downside w

Selene “Thanks for fitting me in, Ror.” I smiled as I took a seat on the exam table. “I could use a little of whatever it was you gave me when we first got here. All this wedding, luna ceremony, and training is wearing me down.” “So, just some generalized fatigue then?” Rory asked. “I’m honestly just exhausted. A few days to sleep would probably have me ship shape, but there’s too much to do for me to do that.” I chuckled. “Have you and Lucas been indulging in a little bedroom rodeo since the haze?” “I mean, we finished the mating process so yeah.” I replied, not sure what my friend was trying to get at.&nb

  • The Assassin's Mate   Chapter 82

Lucas Selene glowered at me from the passenger seat. The other four had opted to take the vehicle she had driven to Cerathe in, leaving me alone with my very pissed off mate. I refused to make eye contact with her as I drove. I wasn’t really sure what I could say to ease her anger. Rory had shocked us all, killing the king while the rest of us had been forced to submit. The soldiers had backed off the moment she commanded them too, none of them certain what they were supposed to do without the king to give them orders. Daniel took charge from there, instructing the soldiers to find the King’s mate. King Jonas hadn’t had a mark, leaving us to hope his mate could survive his death. We had been wrong. While his chosen mates were alive and well, his true mate had succumbed to death moments after the King. The

RorySelene was pacing, her face twisted in anger when we arrived where she waited for us. It had taken us about twenty minutes to catch up to her after she took off in her wolf form. I could tell by the way she twisted her hands together, something worse than just not catching up to her mate had happened. “Selene,” I whispered, handing her clothing to her. “What’s wrong.” “Lucas, they have him. He was being silvered when I got here.” She wailed. “I was too late. Rory, the King, is going to kill him. There’s no way he won’t. I should know; I was the first person assigned to take him out.” She paced as she spoke, her words laced with an ache I had never seen in her.&nb

Selene “Where the fuck is he, Zane?” I demanded, barging into the Beta’s office. Lucas hadn’t answered his office or cell phones, leading me to check for him at the pack house. Instead of finding my mate, I found Zane. The guilty look on his face made it clear that he knew something about my mate’s whereabouts. “He’s in Cerathe.” “And you didn’t try to stop him? Are you insane?” I screeched. “You just let your Alpha waltz into the arms of the enemy.” “I swear, I didn’t know until it was too late.” Zane retorted,

Lucas My mind worked over what Tyson has said on the training field as I watched my mate sleeping peacefully beside me. I wanted to believe he was lying, just trying to make me lose focus to gain the upper hand, but I couldn’t shake his words. Fenrick had lost all signs of Maggie in a small town called Millstone. He believed she had purchased a car that couldn’t be tracked before leaving the place. I wanted to believe him, but she was carrying my child and I couldn’t risk her being in the King’s clutches. Kissing Selene’s sleeping face, I slipped free of her arms and the bed. I had to know for sure whether Jonas had Maggie or not. The only way to find out was to confront him myself. I would link Zane once I was across the border and well on my way. I couldn’t risk him trying to

Selene Lucas’s hands roamed my body, his erection pressing into my backside as we moved to enter the house. “Bath first.” I ordered, freeing myself from his grasp. I laughed as he pouted in response to my words. Rolling my eyes, I dragged him by the hand to the bathroom. “You smell like sweat, blood, and Tyson.” I said, scrunching my nose. “I’d prefer not to smell another man while fucking my mate. Now strip.” “Yes ma’am.” He chuckled, removing his pants and shoes as I filled the tub. He had left his tattered shirt behind on the training field, returning home in only his pants and shoes. The few places Tyson had managed to slash him had alre
