Zane arrived shortly after the kids left for school the next morning, preventing me from having a moment alone to speak with Maggie. We settled into my office so I could fill him in on the purpose of the meeting before Selene arrived.

“So, you’re telling me, your dead mate is alive again and you’re re-mated?” He asked. “That’s pretty wild man.”

“Tell me about it. She said she has information about the King and some major threat he poses to all of us.”

Rory“You’re coming with me to the pack hospital whether you want to or not.” I ordered. “We really do need to use the equipment there to see how well you’re actually healing.” “Alistair and I really need to make a game plan for tomorrow.” Selene whined. “You have all day for that. The tests won’t take more than a couple hours tops. Do you want to be able to shift again or have you just given up?”&

I knew Selene would be worried when I didn’t return to Alistair’s apartment, but I hadn’t thought to get his number from the nurses before I left the hospital with my mate. I was over the moon, watching her as she escorted Maggie and the children back to the Alpha’s home. Victoria radiated power and I couldn’t have asked for better in a mate.“Would you like to grab some dinner?” She asked, turning to face me once her charges were safely inside.“I’d love that.”“There’s this great little pizza place on main. It’s a bit of a walk though.” She mused.“Any time spent with you is worth it. I don’t care if you wanted to walk all the way to a restaurant in Cerathe.” I squealed, taking her hand in mine.We chatted as we walked, the time passing easily between us. Victoria was a pack warrior. The first and only female to become one. She went by Vic becaus

SeleneI had expected to wake feeling exhausted after sitting up so late waiting for Rory to return. Instead, I felt like I had energy I hadn’t experienced since before EJ’s attempt on my life. Whatever was in the injection Rory had given me the day before was a miracle drug. I skipped into the small kitchen, accepting a steaming cup of coffee from Alistair. He had woken me moments before with the promise of the liquid ambrosia I desperately craved. “No cane, I see”. He smiled as he turned back to the pot to poor his own cup. “I’ll be back to peak performance in no time old man.” Alistair leaned against the counter, looking me over as he considered my words.&nbs

LucasI showered in the facilities at the training grounds before making my way to my office. Selene had offered me the same solution Hades had demanded I take by force. His smug satisfaction flowed through me, leaving me frustrated. I couldn’t just ignore the human side of me, the one that said Maggie should have a say in her own future. Gripping the steering wheel tightly, I groaned in irritation before straightening my tie and heading toward the entrance of the pack house. While humans in Mercius were well acquainted with our existence, our pack house was set up differently from traditional pack houses, heralding back to the days when the pack did business with outsiders before they knew werewolves walked among them. The front of the house was setup like a suite of offices, with a tidy reception desk just inside the doors, two large conference rooms that doubled as celebration halls for the pack off to

“Jackie, what kind of things do you like to do for fun?” Maggie asked. We were all seated around the dinner table. Maggie had pulled out all the stops, somehow making a comfort meal seem extravagant. It was clear she wanted to make a good impression of her own on Jackie’s parents. She didn’t want Linda and Patrick to base their impressions of her off her residing in my home. I felt slightly guilty that the pack had already assumed she was my Luna, that I was simply hiding her away until I was ready. “Well, I’m really into martial arts. I’d love to be a warrior some day like Victoria.” Jackie grinned. “That is an admirable goal.” I assured her. “I expect you will have a much easier time than

RoryI made my way to the pack hospital via the public transportation system that ran through the entirety of Lucas’s pack lands. I had been pleased to see that he had implemented systems to help the less fortunate of his members get back and forth through the territory. Even Cerathe, for as large as it was, lacked in that area. The receptionist greeted me with a smile, leading me to the office they had lent me the day before. She winked when I noticed a name plate had been placed on the door, proudly displaying for the world to see that the office belonged to me. My heart swelled with joy knowing that the pack had readily accepted a stranger. They seemed to only care that I was an extra set of hands, willing to work to help the pack. “Doctor Stevens.” A petite nurse called, rapping her knuckles on the open door. “I hope you don’t mi

Selene Rory had cleared me to shift, advising me that it would complete whatever healing was left that could be achieved. I decided to wait until dark, if anyone from Cerathe was going to breech the border, it would happen than. I needed to flex more than just my wolf muscles, part of me wanted to know I still had what it took to be an assassin. I spent the afternoon and much of the evening with Alistair, working on our training plans for the five wolves we had selected. Lucas had agreed to mandate some form of training for all able-bodied wolves and, much to my displeasure, Alistair had accepted the responsibility for organizing it on my behalf as well. It made me regret not attending the meeting between my old leader and the Alpha, but I knew I wouldn’t have been able to face him so soon after suggesting he take the she-wolf l

  • The Assassin's Mate   Chapter 41

I arrived at the training field just before four am. Alistair had been called away by Lucas to vet a new batch of refugees for intake. With the previous night’s attempt on his life, the Alpha wanted to ensure the wolves he accepted into the pack were really defectors, so I was on my own for the first day of training with the five pack warriors. Movement at the far end of the field caught my attention, I crouched, my senses on high alert. “Selene!” A male voice called, as he waved. “I’m Fenrick. Alistair asked us to join your training today. He thought you could use a hand with the new recruits.” I stood recognizing the name. Fenrick had been an infamous assassin, I was surprised to see he had defected to Mercius. Behind him was

“Damon, Felix, it’s time for dinner!” I called from the dining room. I smiled to myself as the boys stomped into the kitchen like a herd of elephants. Damon was the spitting image of his father. You could hardly tell the difference between pictures of them at seventeen. Felix resembled his grandfather with his mousy brown hair, but he had my striking green eyes. I couldn’t believe he was turning sixteen soon and would be finally connecting with his wolf. “Your father has to work late.” I told them, sitting the steaming lasagna pan on the table. “I expect you both to have your homework and chores done before he gets home. Am I understood?”&n

I felt slightly guilty for leaving Lucas to deal with the execution of the spy Alpha Lauren had brought to us without me. He had agreed that it was too early for me to leave Damon with a sitter though, encouraging me to meet with Rory for lunch instead. Life had been hectic in the months since our wedding. We had only spent the weekend at the cabin, not wanting take too much time away from the pack after everything that had happened with King Jonas. By the time I went into labor, I had a strong group of elite warriors, and Victoria was more than ready to take charge for my maternity leave. With Fenrick by her side, there wouldn’t be any issues. I was glad to see that she was still making time for Rory with the added responsibility as I caught sight of them seated at the café waiting for me.&n

I smoothed my gown, letting my hands settle over my protruding bump as I admired my reflection in the mirror. My mother had done an amazing job pulling everything together for the ceremonies. We had opted to have the Luna ceremony as part of our wedding, inviting the entire pack. Lucas had even set up a streaming option for the pack members that wanted to witness the event and couldn’t attend in person. “You look radiant.” Rory grinned, pinning my veil in my hair. At my mother’s recommendation, I had found a stunning empire waist gown to accommodate my growing belly. The lace overlay added the extra layer of elegance with the added bonus of hiding my white flats. Heels were out of the question. The more my belly grew, the more off balance I became. The downside w

Selene “Thanks for fitting me in, Ror.” I smiled as I took a seat on the exam table. “I could use a little of whatever it was you gave me when we first got here. All this wedding, luna ceremony, and training is wearing me down.” “So, just some generalized fatigue then?” Rory asked. “I’m honestly just exhausted. A few days to sleep would probably have me ship shape, but there’s too much to do for me to do that.” I chuckled. “Have you and Lucas been indulging in a little bedroom rodeo since the haze?” “I mean, we finished the mating process so yeah.” I replied, not sure what my friend was trying to get at.&nb

  • The Assassin's Mate   Chapter 82

Lucas Selene glowered at me from the passenger seat. The other four had opted to take the vehicle she had driven to Cerathe in, leaving me alone with my very pissed off mate. I refused to make eye contact with her as I drove. I wasn’t really sure what I could say to ease her anger. Rory had shocked us all, killing the king while the rest of us had been forced to submit. The soldiers had backed off the moment she commanded them too, none of them certain what they were supposed to do without the king to give them orders. Daniel took charge from there, instructing the soldiers to find the King’s mate. King Jonas hadn’t had a mark, leaving us to hope his mate could survive his death. We had been wrong. While his chosen mates were alive and well, his true mate had succumbed to death moments after the King. The

RorySelene was pacing, her face twisted in anger when we arrived where she waited for us. It had taken us about twenty minutes to catch up to her after she took off in her wolf form. I could tell by the way she twisted her hands together, something worse than just not catching up to her mate had happened. “Selene,” I whispered, handing her clothing to her. “What’s wrong.” “Lucas, they have him. He was being silvered when I got here.” She wailed. “I was too late. Rory, the King, is going to kill him. There’s no way he won’t. I should know; I was the first person assigned to take him out.” She paced as she spoke, her words laced with an ache I had never seen in her.&nb

Selene “Where the fuck is he, Zane?” I demanded, barging into the Beta’s office. Lucas hadn’t answered his office or cell phones, leading me to check for him at the pack house. Instead of finding my mate, I found Zane. The guilty look on his face made it clear that he knew something about my mate’s whereabouts. “He’s in Cerathe.” “And you didn’t try to stop him? Are you insane?” I screeched. “You just let your Alpha waltz into the arms of the enemy.” “I swear, I didn’t know until it was too late.” Zane retorted,

Lucas My mind worked over what Tyson has said on the training field as I watched my mate sleeping peacefully beside me. I wanted to believe he was lying, just trying to make me lose focus to gain the upper hand, but I couldn’t shake his words. Fenrick had lost all signs of Maggie in a small town called Millstone. He believed she had purchased a car that couldn’t be tracked before leaving the place. I wanted to believe him, but she was carrying my child and I couldn’t risk her being in the King’s clutches. Kissing Selene’s sleeping face, I slipped free of her arms and the bed. I had to know for sure whether Jonas had Maggie or not. The only way to find out was to confront him myself. I would link Zane once I was across the border and well on my way. I couldn’t risk him trying to

  • The Assassin's Mate   Chapter 78

Selene Lucas’s hands roamed my body, his erection pressing into my backside as we moved to enter the house. “Bath first.” I ordered, freeing myself from his grasp. I laughed as he pouted in response to my words. Rolling my eyes, I dragged him by the hand to the bathroom. “You smell like sweat, blood, and Tyson.” I said, scrunching my nose. “I’d prefer not to smell another man while fucking my mate. Now strip.” “Yes ma’am.” He chuckled, removing his pants and shoes as I filled the tub. He had left his tattered shirt behind on the training field, returning home in only his pants and shoes. The few places Tyson had managed to slash him had alre
