Chapter 52

BAILEY POV

I assured him that in the event of my demise, I would not leave behind any financial obligations in this lifetime.

With a frown, he scolded me, "Stop behaving like that!"

It's hard to comprehend how he could speak to me in such a manner, especially when he could clearly see my weakened state. Every breath is a struggle, and my body feels feeble.

Before I could utter a word, I suddenly lost consciousness. I have no recollection of what happened next.

When I finally regained consciousness, I found myself in a warm and comforting room. The doctor, who was currently drawing my blood, stood before me.

To my surprise, I saw both Elijah's mother and my own mother seated by my side. Elijah himself gazed at me with a serious expression. As I attempted to move, a sharp pain shot through my stomach. My mother quickly intervened, supporting me.

"Don't move, my dear," she said gently.

Confused and tearful, I asked, "What happened, mom? Is my baby alright?"
