LUCY'S POV:

It had been two weeks since the night Dax had lost control. It took Seth and me a few days to meet face-to-face and call a truce, and then we were back to sparring and training.

I was inches away from beating Seth in a sparring match. In fact, I had a pretty good idea that Nia was holding back on Dax's behalf. I swear you'd think these two were mates, but she swears we're not his mate.

Of course, he also doesn't smell like a mate, so I suppose that's settled.

When I woke up after that insane night, I was shocked to find out that I had slept for almost 48 hours. Jason's relief when I woke up was endearing. He had been sitting by my bedside, reading as usual.

I had noticed this about him. His nose was buried in a book if he wasn't whipping up something delicious.

We spent most afternoons around a campfire on the pack patio. Seth and Jason shared stories of the pack, the Alpha, the twins, and other pack members. It felt nice. I could get closer to the pack without being

LEON'S POV:It had been a month or so since Lucy had gone missing. According to my dad, who I wasn't feeling very trusting towards, they had no sightings of her. To appease my insistent nagging, he eventually sent out a small party of warriors to look for her. He seemed completely unbothered by the entire thing. I guess that's what irritated me the most.Bandit had been quiet. I could feel him, and he spoke to me occasionally. I had to go for frequent runs to strengthen him, and I was no closer to understanding why this was happening to me.Sometimes, male wolves can go crazy when they don't find their mate as they age. The need to mate drives us; it's a part of who we are. As an Alpha, it's intense.I knew that if I didn't find my fated mate soon, I would need to take a chosen mate, or I risked losing Bandit forever. This was the only conclusion I could come up with, but I hadn't told anyone what was happening yet.I was sitting in our pack library, finally researching hybrids, when

LIAM'S POV:I was so convinced that Lucy was my mate. I guess it was all just a weird reaction to having a new pack member who was close to my family so suddenly, on top of knowing that she came from the Red Paw Pack as a slave. We had been investigating this pack for a while. My dad would buy slaves from other packs and basically set them free. Often, they stayed in our pack and lived a free life, but when he brought Rosie back, we knew something was wrong. This was the first slave he had bought from the Red Paw Pack.Slaves were known to live harder lives. Often forced into working very laborious jobs with no pay. On top of that, they were always malnourished and timid, but Rosie was different. She didn't speak for months. With a look of terror in her eyes, she would simply nod yes at every question. She was only 15. Just a few years younger than Lucy when Dad brought her home.Thankfully, an older mated couple had grown pups now and were happy to take her in. Dad made sure that she

LUCY'S POV:"Arrgggh" I groaned out loud as I stretched languishingly in my bed. Blinking my eyes a few times before staring up at the ceiling."Nia, pleeeeeease just heal the ache," I complained out loud.Seth had been kicking my ass the last two days after I finally beat him sparring. He was no longer going easy on the workouts.'Lucy, the soreness is a reminder of what it took to get stronger. I'm not healing that part of you,' she said, reminding me for the millionth time."UGH, why do you have to be so wise and stubborn," I spat back while rolling my body to the edge of the bed grudgingly. 'I'm you, and you are me, you know you need this as much as I do,' she replied dryly. Clearly sick of my whining."At least Seth will be gone for a while, so I can take a break. My body feels like it was run over by a semi," I respond, letting my legs fall off the edge of the bed. My feet hit the cold ground before I dragged my body to the door.I let the delicious smell lingering from the kit

  • The Alpha's Secret Daughter   29 - Seeing Tricia Again

When my eyes finally landed on Tricia, I felt some relief but also a flood of anxiety. It was definitely her.She was a few years older than me and while she looked the same, she had definitely grown up. Her features were the same but different and more mature. I'm sure it was the same for me. We hadn't seen each other in four years.Gamma Zev escorted her. I had thought she would have come with a warrior or two, so I'm guessing Leander's inner circle was the only person besides Tricia who knew about me being here. I took a mental note to ask Seth who all knew I was here when he got back.Once she got a bit closer to the cabin, I stood up from the porch swing."LUCY!" she hollered at me before she ran up to me and embraced me in a warm but extremely tight hug.I winced and she immediately pulled back and stared at me with a frown.I laughed a little before explaining. "I'm just sore, Beta Seth has been working me hard. I'll be good by tomorrow Trish."She blew air out through her par

LUCY'S POV:"Hello?" I screamed out into the void. It's all black. Nothingness.I stomp my feet on the ground; there is no sound, no pressure."Nia?" I whispered. I'm beginning to get scared at this point. I'm unsure where I am and what this place is.She doesn't answer. Am I dead?My shoulders slump forward, and just as I'm about to sit and have an entire meltdown, I see a silver glimmer flicker in the corner of my eye. I quickly turn my entire body to it while narrowing my eyes.I feel a pull in my chest as I begin moving toward it. As I approach the bright silver light, I'm engulfed by it, suddenly standing at the tree line by the pack house—the Crescent Wolf Pack House.I look around warily. How did I get here? I continue to look around, seemingly noticing that I am completely alone, when I hear a branch snap, causing me to whip my head to the side."Lucy?" I hear a familiar voice coming closer.Leon's voice.I turn to face the direction of his voice, gently stepping backwards. I

  • The Alpha's Secret Daughter   31 - Leon's Bedroom Part Two

LUCY'S POV:Leon and I look at each other for a short time. I don't know his thoughts or feelings, but he seems calm, so I'm trying to pull myself together."Is Bandit okay?" This was the only response I could think of. I wasn't sure what the dream version of me would say to him, but it was a shot in the dark."No, he has been really weak. I don't know what has gotten into him. My best guess is that I'm getting older, and his need to have a mate is pulling our connection apart. I know it doesn't typically happen this young, but being an Alpha, it would make sense for it to happen earlier," he says, shifting to look up at the ceiling. Damn. Here I am. His actual fated mate. Listening to him talk about losing his wolf because he needs his mate.My stomach flips as he turns back on his side to look at me again.I feel horrible. "Do you want a mate?" I might as well take advantage of this moment to ask a few questions I've secretly wanted to know."Do you?" he counters, looking at me wit

I sighed in relief while I stretched out in my bed, looking over at the spot that Lucy had been in during my dream."Bandit, you seem like you feel better," I say out loud, noticing his presence again visible. He is lying on his back with his tongue lolled out to the side.'Yes, I feel good, but....' Bandit trailed off, confused.I chuckled, understanding his confusion. He definitely wasn't 100% there, but I at least knew we would have a good day today. I was certainly going to make the most of it.I got dressed and headed toward the training field. I spotted my brother, who looked over and waved at me. Once I got closer, I felt the remnants of relief through our bond."You slept in. You never sleep in!" Liam said with a smile."I was having a good dream," I said, smiling at the memory of it.Liam arched his eyebrow a little bit and smiled at me curiously but didn't ask any further quest

LUCY'S POV:It had been a few days since Tricia arrived when I had that dream. Well, I don't know if I would consider it a dream since I was inside someone else's dream. Tricia and I had spent the last couple of days catching up. She told me about a guy she had been crushing on before she came to the Crescent Moon Pack to find me. We talked about her mom and my mom.Apparently, her mom had not taken my mom's passing well. The entire pack loved her, so I assumed her loss impacted many. My heart stung at the mere thought of her being gone; I often tried not to think about it at all.I hadn't told her about all the weird things happening to me yet. I was still trying to build up trust again. After everything I had been through, trusting someone with my secrets wasn't easy. She explained that as Fae, she and her mom could disguise their scent and had been doing so since before she was born. She admitted that my mother was aware that they were Fae, but she had hidden it from my sperm donor

Savina:"What took you so long?" I hiss. They left me for dead; I just know it.My throat feels like sandpaper as I sit up in the cot I had been in for the last several days."Be thankful we came back for you at all," Kash says.I have no clue where we are. The room is dark, and they haven't let me leave since I got here. They lied to me. Lucy wasn't supposed to have her magic. It was supposed to be an easy task.Although my plan was never to take her out in a challenge, I was improvising. The goal was to separate her from her mate's bond so that if her magic ever came to fruition, she would not gain her full strength.Kash never told me why we were doing it. Some might think I was a fool for following his orders blindly, but I trusted him.I loved him.I never wanted Leon the way that I had made it seem. It was a means to an end."How could you say that, Kash?! I did what you asked of me!" I defend. His comment nearly shattered my heart into a million pieces."You are a fool, Savina!

Lucy:We had lunch and revisited the plan we had made with Zeak after getting blood samples. There were still many things to do at this point, and I wasn't sure which direction to take next.We decided to have lunch at the pack house cafeteria. I told my mates we needed to start being more present in the pack."This doesn't mean that Savina is a demi, does it?" Liam asks."No, there weren't enough markers. She was given a gift somehow. That means we're working against magic that we hardly know anything about," Theo explains.Nadia looks worried, even though she is trying to pretend otherwise."Are you not going to explain to me why you want my blood tested?" I ask Nadia for what has felt like the millionth time.I know she isn't being completely honest, but what I had said to Seth was true.I want to build her trust and guidance, but I don't want to push for answers because I know sometimes we just don't know what the answer really is.I gave Theo another sample of blood—a fresh one.

  • The Alpha's Secret Daughter   182 - Old Magic

Lucy:"How did you think of that?" Seth asks as we walk to the city building. The air was cool, fresh, and crisp. The combined scent of pine and lilac lingered about the pack as it always had, but today, it was different. The rain the prior night had wafted the earthy scents further into civilization. I couldn't breathe in enough of it, and it relaxed my soul."Think of what, mate?" I asked. His question was random, as we had been walking for a few minutes now in silence."Doing a reverse Luna ceremony," he explains as if I should already know.I stop in my spot and look over at him, trying to gauge his emotions fully and independently.I hadn't considered that there was typically a Beta female, too, and being mated with Seth made it all the more complicated. He never mentioned me being a Luna or a Beta female, and I hadn't thought to ask either."It just made sense to ensure the pack is connected to me and has their full strength. This way, I'm not a Luna or a Beta female. I'm just m

Lucy:"Her position is next to us!" Seth speaks up.He's protective in a way that's different from my other mates. He knows I'm insecure about my place amongst others.Or... at least I was. I'm not anymore. My mom knew I was going to have power that was bordering on unimaginable and most certainly unreasonable. No one needed the kind of power I had, yet here I am.She knew I would gain strength one day, so that I wouldn't be able to be so easily cracked. I was starting to understand how the Fae functioned and understood themselves with their magic. It was different. I wasn't the same, and I would never be the same again.I didn't want to be."Calm down, that wasn't what I was saying," Leander starts. The longer he takes to explain whatever's on his mind, the more the room feels like it's losing oxygen. I'm having a hard time controlling my feelings, sitting here waiting."I need you all to start considering what the pack's impression will be when Lucy has marked both the Alpha's of thi

Lucy:"The stronger the magic within a person, the harder it was to control myself," Zeak admits.I watch as he sits down on the cot in the corner of the cell now.I hadn't felt my magic back then but I guess he could.I wanted a better answer but I guess it could be that simple."Rosie would do something. I'm not sure what it was exactly, but for a moment, I would see clarity. I started having her be there all of the time, and I saw clearly the more she was around. Kragen said she was an abomination and needed to be killed. I sold her instead," he admits."You're going to go back to your pack. Tell them you escaped somehow. I don't care what lies you have to come up with; it needs to be believable," I state.I feel Leon's grip around me tighten, and a growl elicits from each of my mates.'We didn't talk about this, Lucy. You can't make that decision without Dad,' Liam links me.He's right. I need to talk with Leander, but my mates will soon be taking over the pack, and we also need to

LEON:'Don't mess this up,' B warns me.Lucy's trust meant everything to me. B and I have been getting restless because she runs off on her own all the time.It had to stop now.I put my arm out, stopping Seth and Liam from proceeding toward Zeak's cell.'Just give her a minute first,' I suggest through our link.It was interesting how being marked with Lucy now gave us the ability to link with Seth, too.Neither of them responds, but they don't try to move forward either. We watch as Lucy approaches the cell and stops to face Zeak's.She stands there for several moments, not saying a word, and Zeak doesn't say anything either. My heart thunders in my chest.Simply knowing that she is in his presence and that he gets to look at her makes me sick to my stomach, but I push my feelings aside for the sake of Lucy's trust in us."When did you notice the change?" These were Lucy's first words, or rather, a question for Zeak.I can now hear sobbing coming from Zeak's cell. It doesn't sound l

Lucy:Leon got the brunt end of the deal when it came to my affection. He had to see the way I flinched at any sudden touch or movement toward me.The way my mind wrapped up in anxiety the moment I started to let myself go, and the way my body revolted at any bit of love he tried to give me at first. While Seth had spent so much time showing me friendship and the slow burn of a connection only that type of relationship could provide, Leon had gone head-first into committing to me and showing me safety in love and intimacy. He never second-guessed me or our bond.He never judged or looked at me differently. He put work into helping me get comfortable enough to approach intimacy.Of course, he was upset.I didn't want it to be this way, either."Leon... please talk to me," I murmur, entering our bedroom alone. He looks over at me, clearly still angry, but looks at me anyway."It's hard for me to explain things when I'm not really sure of them myself," I start.I'm nervous about how he wi

Leon hisses, pointing his finger at me.'He'll get over it,' Liam links me, likely to avoid pissing Leon off any further, but it doesn't make me feel any better."What crawled up your butt?" I hear Trish before she pushes past Leon and trots into the kitchen. She stops and looks around the room for a second."This doesn't look like the best time for bad news, but I've been waiting almost a week to tell you guys," she says, squinting one eye.Great.Leon's large presence comes from behind Trish. Lucy:Seth looks at me thoughtfully for a moment. The idea of how and why the pack is blessed seemed to have suddenly confused him as well."I never thought about that. I assumed it had to do with our strength and wealth. This pack has had minimal rogue attacks, has always done well financially, and hasn't suffered in many different ways that other packs have," Seth suggests. He's right, though. They have seemed to have good luck OR make the right choices."Hecate wiped the history for a good reason. She doesn't want anyone to know she's been looking over this pack. She gave the line of Alphas the ability to find their mates and their families' mates. You understand better than I do how much strength that gives a pack alone," I say, tapping my toes on the ground excitedly as we piece together the mystery that's been driving me mad."Wait. Hecate gave them that gift? The Moon Goddess grants the Alpha lineage their special strength," Seth argues, his voice slightly irritated at me for gi
