Emma and Dave had gone off to see if they could find anything in Vanessas' house. I wasn't even sure if she really lived there or if the house would’ve disappeared as her father had. Magic was fucked up. There were too many ways to mess with someone for me to be comfortable with it. For now, I had to find some sort of comfort in knowing that Percy would be okay. I couldn't tell whether it was because he was my previous Alpha or our history together that made me care so much. But I didn't want him hurt. I had to play Damien while they were gone. Whatever he asked or did, I had to just nod my head and obey him. The thought alone disgusted me but I was hoping that it wouldn't show once he was close. Something tugged inside of me and I felt him. The mark wasn't fully gone yet so it still had some effect. The door opened up and Damien stepped in. I was sitting on the edge of the bed, holding a book that I pretended to read. He walked over and got in between my legs. He leaned down,
~Emma~ Walking through the woods and past all the warriors was a task in itself. I hadn't been here before so I had no idea who was with Damien and who was on our team. Luckily, Dave knew and it seemed like a lot of the people we passed were actually part of this pack. Damiens warriors were more on the borders and closer to the castle as well as in town to keep everyone in check. We made our way out onto a patch where several cottages were lined up but only one truly stood out. It was a bit more fallen and damaged than the others and it didn't look like whoever lived here looked after it. The brown chipped wood and the broken board on the porch were in deep need of some love and care. ”This is it,” Dave said and stepped on the squeaking boards. He opened the door and we stepped in. She had to have had some hex over the place when Selene was here or she would've told me how badly damaged it was. There were layers of dust in every corner of the house that I saw. The racks in t
Bella was eyeing me cautiously. Her eyes were narrowed and I could almost hear the wheels in her head going round from all the thinking. ”How?” ”I can make sure of it. Selene is needed here, Percy was willing to let go of her once, he’ll do it again if he thinks it’s for the best. I can get Selene on board too,” my heart clenched in my chest but I knew that if it came down to it, Selene would give Percy up. She didn't know what the rest of us did, she had no idea that Percy was her mate. And if I had to keep it from her to save her life, then that’s what I would do. ”The second she gains her wolf, she’s going to search after Percy, she’s going to recognize him as her mate,” ”Not if she doesn't know that he exists. Selene doesn't know that she and Percy are mates and if you choose to help, I will make sure she doesn't find out. She would sooner reject him than lose her pack and family anyways so there is no way for this to go wrong,” I could hear Dave's heavy breathing from behi
~Selene~ I wrote down my feelings in my journal and placed them away. I had to be careful about what I wrote down in case Damien or one of his people ever found it. I had left Stephanie's room after telling her everything that we had found out and she seemed relieved to hear that there was a plan- or sort of a plan, in the making. I had gotten all my thoughts out and knew that Steph had eaten and gained some energy, so now I was just tapping my fingers on my desk. I got up and ran my hands through my hair before flipping my head over and grabbing all my hair. I put it in a high ponytail but jerked up quickly when I heard the door open. Dave stepped inside and looked like he had had a rough day. He forced a smile and closed the door behind him. ”How did it go?” I asked as I tied the hair tie around my ponytail. He nodded his head and slumped down on the bed. He cupped his hands and leaned his arms on his knees. ”We have Bella on our side,” My eyes narrowed and my jaw clen
After I had showered earlier I reapplied makeup to the mark but as I began to sweat and Damien's hand rubbed against the area, I was worried that it would get smudged. I tried to stand as still as possible and to calm myself so that the sweating stopped. Damien's fingers were so tangled in my hair that it felt like my scalp was being torn from my skull. I tried thinking about something calm but nothing in my life was calm right now. Everyone I knew was either in danger, locked up, or repressed. Something free and calm, what the hell could I think about? Rascal, it hit me, my horse was still free. He was waiting for me, that ride we’d had together with Meredith when he just ran and I bounced on his back. My hair flowed in the wind and the wind graced my skin. He was my calm, my freedom, thinking about him helped control my nerves. The pain eased up a bit and I stopped sweating which was the important part. Thanks, buddy. Damien's thumb dragged over my lips and I held his gaz
The chandelier that hung on the ceiling started shaking, and the crystals fell one by one and bounced against the marble floors. ”Babe,” Sam grabbed my arm, smoke formed around his fingers and he yanked it back. ”You fucked her.” The paintings on the walls, the curtains that hang from the high ceiling, and the lamps on the walls all started shaking. ”Stop, please. Do something,” He said and looked at his brother. The lamp came crashing down, and the guards moved out of the way but a few crystals penetrated their skin. Two paintings fell to the floor and the curtain flowed down from its hangers like a velvet-red waterfall. ”Vanessa, that’s enough.” I looked at Damien but the anger was getting out of control and I didn't care who got hurt or what I did, I needed a release. The glass on the windows shattered and the splinter fell behind me. ”Vanessa!” Sam screamed and stepped toward me with widened eyes. ”Tell me the truth!” ”Fine, yes, I slept with her!” I drew in my finge
I couldn't tell whether that had been a memory or a dream but when I woke up I felt happy. Smoothing was slowly starting to fill me with warm light and something that told me things would be okay. Although it could've been just a dream, and I was fooling myself by acting as though it was more. I sighed and got up from the bed. It was morning and Damien hadn't gotten back yesterday. His side of the bed was still made and no one had laid there, and if he had come back, I would've woken up. The sun shone brightly and for a second it felt like nothing had happened like Damien had never come and the Royals were downstairs eating breakfast. But one glimpse outside and reality smacked me in the face. The warriors were patrolling every inch of the grounds, our pack members were getting antsy and angrier by each day and some who had tried to retaliate had lost their lives. The entire atmosphere had shifted from what it had been before they came. Everyone was walking on eggshells or plottin
2 days left… There were two days left, I was walking around the estate and taking everything in. I had to close my eyes in order to actually relax. Wherever you looked you could see Damiens warriors eyeing everything they passed. I was starting to think that they had a genetic condition that made it impossible for them to smile. They never moved a single facial muscle. They looked like creepy dolls where only the eyes follow you around the room. My body shook from the thought and I went around to the stables. Emma had gone to the cellars to tell them about the plan and hopefully have them onboard with everything. I begged her to not tell anyone else about what had happened with me, Dave and Damien. I needed that to be a well-kept secret that no one ever found out about. She promised after a few minutes of beginning on my part. Apparently, she thought the king and queen should know, even Percy because it would make them keener on ending him. Though I doubted they would need th
