After a thorough shopping spree in all of the major brand stores, they were finally done, and Lola was exhausted. Melissa was giddy and energized from the hard work they had put in, and she could go another round, but Lola put her foot down. They slumped down in the seats after having ordered food, and the bags were in piles next to them.

Lola took her bag and took out the credit card. She handed it back to Jax. He looked at the card and pushed her hand back softly.

“Keep it. It’s yours,” he said.

The shock of the gesture was evident on her face.

“I’m not keeping it,” she laughed and put it on the table for him to grab.

Jax leaned back in the seat. “Look at the name of the cardholder.”

Lola carefully reached out and grabbed the card. She turned it over and saw the name on the back. Lola Graves

“What?” she gasped.

“It’s yours, and it’s unlimited. Whatever you need, whenever you need it,” Jax explained.

She couldn’t take it. It felt wrong to own someone else’s money. Her first thought,

The air swirled around them, and the breeze that before felt like an appreciated caress was now beginning to sting against their skin.“Say something,” Lola begged after Jax had stood stoic for over a minute.“You’re a Doe,” he whispered into the wind.“So you’ve heard of them?” she asked.“Only in fairytales as a child. Nobody ever spoke of them as something in existence,” he replied.Lola chuckled. “You mean like werewolves and vampires?” she said jokingly and raised a brow, but Jax was not amused.“Lola, do the vampires know?”She gulped and nodded. “Yes.”He ran a hand over his face. “That’s why they’re here, why they’re after you.”She nodded again.“How?” he asked, and his hands fell to his side.Lola took a deep breath and prepared herself. She would tell him everything now, the whole truth and leave nothing out. After she was done, he would do with the information as he pleased, and the control would be out of her hands. She was quite literally putting her fate in his hands.“

Lola dragged her fingers through his hair as Jax got on his knees in front of her.He undid her jeans and pulled them down. The sky was getting dark, and the moon showed itself. He kissed down her inner thigh and looked up, meeting her eyes as he pulled her underwear to the side, and his tongue slid over her clit.“Oh my god,” she moaned and fisted his hair when the pleasure spread through her body and every nerve tingled. His finger entered her, and he moved it slowly. After a while, when he noticed she was comfortable, he entered another finger and began thrusting harder as his tongue moved between her folds and put pressure on her clit.Lola squeezed her legs around his head and panted as her walls clenched around his fingers. She bent over, her fingers pulling in his hair and core tightening as she came on his fingers. Jax rose to his feet slowly. He gently removed his fingers and pulled her pants up as he rose. He grabbed her waist, pulling her hips out toward him. Lola looked at

The door opened up into the dark room. Lola had been restless, laying on the bed for the past two hours, waiting for Jax to return with news. All the ways that this could unfold were paved out in her mind. If her blood worked, it meant that she could not only heal vampires but also other supernatural creatures. Jax now knew she withheld a piece of the truth from him, and with the latest attack on Ember, she began counting her days in Wild Cliff.Jax walked in. His shirt was seared with blood, and his face had fallen in front of his tired face.He marched over to the bed with heavy steps and slumped down on it. Jax turned his body. He grabbed Lola’s ankle and pulled her to him, he moved her legs, so she was positioned on top of him, straddling his waist. He buried his face in her chest, and she wrapped her arms around him.Jax was, for the first time, vulnerable around her. Her heart was beating out of her chest in anticipation. Had it not worked? The morning began with rain and an ominous darkness. Nevertheless, Lola and Jax lay in bed with the drapes wide open, looking at the trickling rain and the cloudy skies. Lola rested her head on his chest, and he was running his fingers through her hair.“I like this color,” he said and pulled a lock between his fingers.Lola smiled. “I like you,” she said and listened as his heart began to beat faster. The house was waking up, and the door downstairs opened and shut as people came and went.“Lola,” he said.Lola fixed herself on the bed and put her chin on her arms as she gazed up at him. “Yes?”“Don’t let anyone know about your blood. Tell no one that you can heal humans or supernaturals. You need to keep that secret buried deep.”Lola furrowed her brows and nodded. “What did you tell your parents and Ash?” she asked. That question had been on her mind since last night, but other things got in between a few times, and the question vanished. She smiled when she thought about what they

By the end, Melissa was sitting on the floor with her back leaning against the closet, and her eyes were the size of saucers.Lola stood a few meters away. She was chewing on her fingertip and picking off flakes of dead skin in nervous anticipation of Melissa’s reaction. Lola dropped her hands and fiddled with her robe. Her hair fell over her shoulder, and she started pulling at the strands.“Please, please, please say something,” Lola said, dropping her hands and begging for words from Melissa. Any words would suffice right now.Melissa leaned forward and brought her legs to her chest. “Vampires are real,” she said, her voice was hoarse.“Yes,” Lola said.“Werewolves are real.”“Yes.”“This house is filled with werewolves, and their neighbors are… werewolves.”“Yes.”“The Blackwoods are werewolves.”Lola winced and nodded. “Yes.”“You have magical blood that heals them, and it heals the vampires.”“Yes.”Melissa looked up at Lola, finally making eye contact. “And you killed your fami

Lola stood up from the floor. Melissa did a double take, reluctantly tearing her eyes from Ash, and following Lola up on her feet.“Something just happened didn't it?” Melissa said when she felt the air shifting around them.“No nothing happened. I don't know how your sister survived.” She said and looked at Ash. He rose and strode over the floor whilst Lola took a step back to keep the distance between them. He saw that she was wary of his closeness but Ash continued to walk until he had her pressed abasing the closet door. He stopped, reached out his hand, and grabbed the waistband of her robe, sliding it between his fingers. “Never in the history of our existence has a werewolf survived a bite from a vampire. Enter you.” Lola tried to see if he knew something, if Jax had told him but she wasn't sure.“Why don't you just appreciate the fact that your sister is alive and not question why or how? she’s alive, isn't that all that matters?” Melissa said, including herself in the convers

After that day by the roundabout, Jax wasn't seen much. He was kept busy by workload both pack-related and also the multiple businesses that he was being groomed to overtake. Lola was spending more time with Melissa each day and their friendship went back to what it had been. It had been five days since they sat on the bench at the roundabout and the university was opening tomorrow on Thursday. They took advantage of the school being closed to renovate the classrooms and polish up the lab. The mayor, Mr. Clan, was much celebrated for this decision and the students were glad to take the classes remotely. Melissa and Lola however had seen these few days as a vacation and said they’d catch up once school started again. They sat in Melissa's living room and waited for her parents to come home. Lola had been invited to stay for dinner and Mrs. Clifton had expressed how much she had missed Lola’s company. They played a game of Joker and Lola won for the second time when the door opened

She needed to see Lola’s face and make sure that she was alright. She also wanted to scream across the table and ask what the hell was going on but luckily she had some restraint.“Ash, how nice of you to join us. Who told you about the dinner?” Mrs. Blackwood asked. Ash thanked Mr. Clifton for the wine and swirled it in his glass.“Nobody told me about the dinner. “Get your butt in here right now, young lady!” Lola scolded while running around with a towel chasing her two-year-old daughter who was running down the hallways butt naked. With her arms swinging in the air and laughing menacingly, the water traced her steps on the carpets, and she headed towards the stairs. Just before reaching the end of the hallway, she was lifted into the air by two large arms and flown around like an airplane. “Daddy!” “My darling Ophelia,” he said and lowered her gently. He tickled her nose and hugged her tight when Lola came to a stop with the towel. “That little girl is definitely wolf,” Lola panted. She halted to a stop and raised a brow when she took in Jax’s appearance. “Daddy indeed,” Lola purred when she watched her husband’s bare upper body as he stood sweating after his workout with the warriors. “She could be a Doe,” Jax said and looked into his daughters’ eyes. “She has your big, beautiful eyes,” he remarked. Lola giggled and cupped Jax’s che

They were back at the mansion and had constructed a plan on the way. The danger was still not altogether eliminated, not all enemies had been neutralized and they were those on the inside still aiming to break Jax and Lola apart.Jax and Ash walked into the mansion with Lola keeping her distance behind them. She turned away from them and hid where they wouldn't see her until it was time. Jax had called for a meeting on the way and told his parents and Lavina to meet him in the study. Nobody had suspected a thing, they were all just glad to hear that he was alright and their Alpha and son were returning home. The Blackwood boys entered the office and let the door fall to a near close. “It is so good to see you again, darling,” Mrs. Blackwood gleamed.Lavina ran up and wrapped her arms around him. The wide smile on her face and the wrinkles on her eyes deepened as relief washed over her. “I was so worried I almost went after you myself but Lola insisted she had it covered,” she said

Lucien clapped his hands, starting slow as the sound echoed in the room before he picked up the speed and laughed menacingly. He slammed his fist in the air and blew into his hands in celebration.“I have played this in my mind for months, going over what it would be like to have you all here and to tell you the things I knew but now that it is happening, holy shit, there is not a feeling like it.” He licked his lips and wiped the sweat from his face.He used his speed and kneeled next to Lola in a second. She fell back and tried to widen the distance between them by crawling backward but Lucien circled his fingers around her ankle and pulled her in with a rough grip. He gestured with his hand towards Jax and said through a deep smirk, “How I have been waiting for this. Be honest now, which do you prefer- getting fucked by a werewolf-” he grabbed her chin and forced her head back, “-or a vampire?” He asked. Ash’s eyes glowed as his wolf stepped up, his canines extended and his growl shook the walls of the house when he pulled the knife out of his side and he flung it at his cousin's hands. They all turned their heads and watched as the knife cut through the air and went clean through the chains that bound Jax's hands. Jax fell into a pool of his blood, his heart barely beating and his body weakened from the poison in his wounds.“What the fuck?” One of the vampires spat and tried to overrun Ash. Ash grabbed the vampire's arm and spared no time as he ripped his head clean of his body and through against one of the windows, shattering the glass.“Let go of her.” He growled and walked towards Lucien. Whatever they had laced the blade with was eating at his insides, burning his flesh like acid but Ash refused to fall, not until he knew that she was safe.Lucien pulled out his fangs and lifted his head, looking toward the ceiling in a euphoric high.Three of his men jumped on Ash who was alre

They went to sleep not long after their talk and Ash slept on top of the covers. He watched Lola drift off into slumber and lay awake completing his choices. His cousin had been taken and he was making moves on his girl. Though he knew what he wanted, he now began to regret the many decisions he’d made that had led him this far. He looked at her lips slightly parted in her sleep and her eyes softly closed still, the faint freckles on her nose and her thick hair landing over her shoulder. She was a special girl, loved by many and desired by more. Perhaps it was the curse of being the Doe or maybe it was just her heart that sparked interest once she trusted people enough to show it to them. Regardless of the reasons, Ash realized now that his fighting was futile because her heart was not his to win. He should've been grateful to have felt her love, the one she gave him when she chose to trust him. The love was addictive, at first taste he wanted more, and he wanted what his cousin had.

They drove up to the Inn though it was further away from the street than advertised and they circled a sharp turn that led up a narrow path.As they arrived at a red neon sign saying ’open’ and a lady sitting with headphones on behind the desk inside they looked at each other, a lingering silence that was questioning just how good of an idea it was to go in. The rain poured around them. Drops on the roof of the car began to sound like firecrackers went off in a tunnel.Ash gave Lola his jacket to hold over her head and they shared a look before they ran from the car and slammed open the door as they tumbled inside. The lady looked up, slowly and gently as though a couple of strangers hadn't just tumbled into her hallway. She slowly leaned to the side to look past them and watch the pour outside of the Inn.“You kids don’t listen to the news, do ya?” She laughed. She wiggled her finger in front of Lola and pointed to the den.“There are towels in there, go grab yourselves some and I'll

They were back in the mansion. Ash had gathered the Alpha's warriors and filled them in on the situation. One of the cleaners had turned on the radio and Lola heard on the news that extreme weather was to be expected as she walked down after having changed clothes. Extreme rainfall was to occur during the night and the following days in and around town. She had the keys to her car and a small bag with toiletries.Ash and the warriors came out of the office and saw Lola standing at the entrance. His shoulders rose in a predatory bow as he stalked towards her.“Where do you think you’re going?” He asked. “To find Jax. Whatever he and I are, it’s my fault that he’s been taken. I'm going to bring him home,”Ash was in front of her before she could blink and ripped the keys from her hand.“The hell you are.” He put the keys in his pocket and grabbed her wrists when she tried to get them back. “It’s my fault that he was taken, he was protecting ME!” “And I will get him back!” He growled
