The following days had us getting ready for Lustrows and Harol's wedding. The house was repainted, new furniture was bought, the lawn was cleared and decorated, and the whole house was looking spiff and spam. The union between The Silver Pack and The Arrowhead Pack was all over the news, it was going to be the biggest wedding in all the land.
I was happy during this period because I was sure I would see Leoric again, my instincts told me he would be at the wedding and if he was there, I'll get to hang out with him,
This excitement lifted me above all the sadness and stress I was going through at this time; I surprisingly found myself smiling as I did the heinous tasks assigned to me in preparation for the wedding—the thoughts of Leoric consoled me. I imagined what it would be like if he accepted me despite my status, Haleth said he was rich so he would pay off the rest of my debt, then we would get married and start a pack of our own. We would live happily ever after, how sweet my dreams were
The wedding day came closer and the preparations intensified until it was the big day, the highly anticipated wedding day!
The sky was clear and beautiful and the air smelt fresh I hopped off my bed excitedly and proceeded to the kitchen to assist the chef they hired to make the food for the buffet they planned for the occasion.
"You seem very happy this morning," Haleth said to me
"Isn't everyone?"
"You're glad you'll be free of Harol aren't you?"
I gazed at her incredulously for some seconds and laughed "you're right Hally, I'll be free of Hally but I'm also glad I'll be able to watch the events live and direct. I won't have to eavesdrop"
"Of course, you won't" Hally laughed "what time is it now ladies" Ma'am Fregio, the chef asked
"It's 4 AM" Haleth answered "no, it isn't" I countered "it should almost be dawn now" Ma'am Fregio scrunched her face in confusion "can someone go down the hall or to where there is a clock, I need to know the actual time"
"Okay," I said getting up and washing my hand in the sink "I'm going to check the living room" but as I approached the door a deafening and shrill scream reverberated around the house "what in the world was that," Haleth asked with a startled expression but then there was another scream "it's the Lunar" my eyes widened in shock, why was she screaming, what happened to her "let's go check on her" Haleth suggested and we all rushed out the door but when we got to her chambers the door was locked, Holden stood in front of it, warding people off and preventing them from entering
"There is nothing wrong with the Lunar," he said spreading his arms to stop people to hold people back "it's just an anxiety attack, she's perfectly fine" "yes she is," the Alpha said coming out of the room "you can all go back to your positions, we should be in the party mood" he attempted to laugh but I sensed distraught: like there was something he was hiding beneath his happy look my instincts felt like something had gone awry but I ignored it, maybe the Lunar's dress wasn't made well and she wouldn't like to look casual and she wouldn't like to look casual. I shrugged and walked back to the kitchen, one hour later, there was a knock on the door
"Come on in" Haleth bellowed and it turned out to be Holden, "young master" Haleth greeted "what do you want, do you need anything, don't you like what was served for breakfast don't you., do you..." He raised his hand, cutting Haleth off "there's nothing to worry about, the food is okay" he turned to face me "The Alpha and Lunar have sent for you "
My heart jolted instantly, what have I done, am I going to do something, seeing the look on my face, Holden walked to the door and opened it "let's go I don't know what you're needed for let's just go" he held his out for me to take
"What?" I asked as this gesture surprised me but he only grabbed my wrist and began to pull me along
"What are you doing, what have I done now" I squealed trying to free my hand but he only tightened his grip and walked faster "what have I done now, please Holden, don't let me get locked in the basement. I really want to see the wedding please"
He kept mute and I saw that he was leading me to the Alpha and Lunar's room. Had Harol accused me of something again, oh no, I prayed she didn't order me to vanish from the wedding scene, tears began to gather in my eyes. If I didn't attend the wedding, I wouldn't be able to see Leoric and today was my only chance, if I didn't see him today, I wouldn't be able to find him on my own, my heart began to palpitate even as he opened the door and pushed me inside, then he locked the door behind us but Harol wasn't in the room, The Alpha sat on the bed beside Lunar who was sobbing quietly
"Here she is" Holden announced walking past me to sit on the couch. I looked at the gathering and a million thoughts ran through my head. The Alpha gestured for me to sit in the chair in front of him, but I remained still, my heart beating in my chest, "sit down Silene" he took a deep breath "sit down Silene... please"
"What!"
My ears felt like something banged in them had the Alpha just begged me, what was going on now, I was really scared, I sank into the seat slowly "thank you" he said adjusting his sitting position and clearing his throat "you see we've called you here" he stopped and took a deep breath and the Lunar burst into a loud wail "calm down Edsel" he said pulling her into his embrace "she'll be fine, she'll come back home"
"What" I yelled springing to my feet "what happened to Harol"
"Keep your voice down" the Alpha shushed "no one knows about it yet. Harol has run away from home, she left last night" he handed me a folded piece of paper and my hand trembled as I took it from him, I open it slowly, it was a note from Harol and it read
"Sorry Mom sorry Dad.. but I can't
Just Let you ruin my life, not like that, not
because of your financial situation. I
deserve to be happy and I can't find
happiness with Alpha Lustrows, I'd be
sad for the rest of my life, I know
I sound like I don't care what would
Happen to you or what is happening right now as you read this note but maybe I truly don't care, maybe I can't sacrifice my happiness for your comfort and honor. I'm sorry I had to make this decision this abruptly, I just couldn't watch my worst nightmare come true.
Don't bother looking for me because you won't find me. Live what will be left of your life happily and wish me luck on whatever you do"
Love
Harolden.
This is horrible, very bad, how could Harolden be this selfish, how could she do this at this time, how could she not be there for her parents when they needed her "I'm very sorry" was all I could mutter as I returned the letter to him, what would happen now, it was too late to call off the ceremony
"What would happen now" I managed to ask, swallowing my fear of them
"It's too late to cancel the wedding" the Alpha answered "even if we do, It'll affect us. You do know we're broke don't you" I nodded slowly "the union is our breakthrough, we need the money, we need the endorsements, we need the properties. Without it we'd be nothing, we've spent all left we have on the ceremony, we're entirely broke now"
I lowered my gaze in sadness, "but we've thought of something, we've thought of a solution"
"What is the solution," I asked eagerly, happy the wedding wouldn't be canceled but the Alpha kept mute "tell me the solution sir and I would help supervise the arrangements, it'll be like nothing happened"
"I've informed Alpha Ailwyn and Lunar Dessa of what happened"
"Really?"
"Yes and they've agreed to the new plan, they have no choice too it'll be a huge disgrace on them as well"
"I understand master, what's the solution?"
"You are going to marry Alpha Lustrows in place of Harol"
"What!"
It felt like a cannon exploded in my head, I went dumb for a second and time stopped
"Yeah", Holden, The Alpha, and Lunar said in unison "we've convinced them that you are our daughter, your name is no longer Silene. You'll answer the name Keyvra from now on. You have no choice but to do as I say but I'll like you to know that this is a chance for you to be free, you'll get to live a life of luxury. Lustrows has agreed to the plan also, he'll be good to you"
Words are not enough to express how felt at that moment. I felt like I was dreaming or that I was suddenly in a movie, the three of them were staring at me, watching my whole life change within just five minutes. It was a better option than slavery but then there was Leoric, what would I do about him, I couldn't just let him go and I didn't think I wanted to be married to that pompous fool either— not after what I witnessed the other day. It was all happening too fast "no" I yelled as loudly as I could "I'm not interested, it is none of my business" they could kill me if they wanted, it wasn't like my life even mattered to them. After all these years of suffering to end up in bondage with some sycophant who wouldn't love me or care for me, I would suffer all my life
"I'm the one who shouldn't care about you and your pack," I said "it's not like I've ever gained anything from you, I've never benefitted from your riches, I don't have good clothes, I wear your rags, I almost didn't go to school, I didn't live the lavish life your children lived. I didn't enjoy your money when you had it so why should I be the one to suffer for it"
"But you are still owing us" the lunar retorted
"I don't care! That doesn't give you the right to sell me off I'm not a slave, I'm only working to pay my debt"
"And you haven't finished paying it, we're making it easy for you to pay us. We're letting you off, we're not enslaving you anymore, you'll be free from us now"
To my surprise, I burst into a peal of hysterical laughter, then I stood defiantly before them
"Just look at you," I said mockingly "pained and restless, sad and mad. I bet you know what going broke means now, I bet you know how my mother felt now, turns out what goes around comes around after all"
But a slap landed on my across my face sending me to the floor, I was blind for a moment when I recovered, I held my burning cheek and I looked up, the Alpha was standing there, so fiery-eyed he resembled a monster, my sudden confidence vanished instantly and became replaced with fear
"You have no right to talk to me like that. I'm still in control of your life, you have no home but here. Your mother was a fool, same with your father. I'm doing you a big favor, changing your miserable life by letting you bear the same with me, by acknowledging you as my daughter and besides you have no choice, you have no choice, you have nowhere to go. You will marry Alpha Lustrows, you will remain obedient and loyal to him. You will serve him as you served us. And if you ever contemplate revealing the secret of your identity to The Silver Pack, they won't spare you for letting them have such relations with a dirty blood like you, you'll be dead before you even say it"
These words sank deep into me, a fresh pang jabbed my heart: There was nothing to be done, I had no choice.
I was dressed and made up: Lunar Esdel stayed there, directing the makeup artists on what my face should look like. She told them to add extra concealer to my face to cover up the scars that were there. I was also made to go through skin exfoliating processes to make my skin shiny and remove dirt that had accumulated in my pores. "You need to stop crying," Lunar Esdel said harshly "you are not trying to ruin the makeup are you, what sort of nonsense is this, do you want to give people the impression that you were forced to do this" she gripped my face and wiped the fresh tears that were starting to gather in my eyes"You need to stop ruining the makeup" she paused and let out an exasperated sigh "if you want to cry, wait until we get kicked into the street, then you'll have enough reasons to cry then" she gripped my face and wiped it again "There don't mess it up anymore, you just need to be brave"I didn't cry anymore, not because of what she said though but because I'd run out of
"Bimla...?" I could hear him whisper the name I once assumed as he pointed at me, he was looking shocked. I didn't even know if I was supposed to react or say anything, I was already perspiring profusely. He then began to approach me while Lustrow and Alpha Feston watched us. How was I going to explain to them if Leoric mentioned it? I was already scared. "Stop right there." Lustrow gestured Leoric to stop moving as he leapt up. He was glaring at Leoric so fiercely as of he just met an absconded enemy and Leoric stopped. I could see in his eyes that he had a lot of questions to ask, he looked confused and curious at the same time. "Don't you ever dare stare at my wife like that, otherwise I won't hesitate to plug out your eyes from their sockets." Lustrow warned menacingly but Leoric stood their quiet and indifferent, moving his head to Lustrow's tone. For some reason, I felt like going to calm him and explain everything to him but I knew what would come afterwards if I
Lustrow had warned me never to meet with Leoric. He told me to stay away from him despite knowing it was not possible. I could even attempt physical distancing but spiritual distancing was impossible. The spirituality that drew both of us together could be broken and he knew it, yet he laid that rule. Since he had laid this rule, he had set up some spies who were to watch my movements, when I sleep, when I eat, when I walk. Though he didn't tell me but I found out when I tried to sneak into Leoric's room. He had told me to come meet him in his room when I was done and I did but when Lustrow returned from work, be told me he knew I went and he explained everything I did and he concluded with 'my eyes are always on you.' He said he could have punished me then, but he wouldn't because he was in a good mood. "You should not eat with the family in the dinning hall when Leoric is there, you should not sit with the family in the lounge when Leoric is present there. When Leoric turns
Alpha Ailwyn had invited some other Alpha and their Luna to have dinner with him. He was wealthy enough, so he could spend a lot for the arrangements. I didn't know the reason though. It wasn't that something special happened or there was some kind of festival and when I inquired about it from a maid, she told me it was a usual thing. I could remember vividly that Alpha Feston never held such dinner party, so how was if usual? Probably it was usual only in the silver pack, I concluded. When I and Lustrow arrived, the Alpha welcomed us and we greeted him in turn, then we greeted one another amongst ourselves. I hated this though butI had no choice. I introduced myself to some Alpha Luna and they introduced themselves to me as well. While all the Alpha chatted and laughed, except Leoric, the Luna's just glared at each other. There was some kind of hostility between them. Leoric didn't go up to other Alphas, he just sat at one corner of the dinning hall. None of them seemed to
Leoric sat me down and discussed his plan of getting I and Lustrow divorce and it sounded very awesome. The way he was speaking superbly with respect and love, made me feel too relaxed that I forgot I had to be in the room before Lustrow returned. One part of me was telling me to leave while the other part was telling me to stay and spend some more time with Leoric. That must be the evil side, the one which wanted me punished. I hurried up, dropping Leoric's hand. What if dinner had ended? Lustrow would work for me and later find out it was there. "I will take your leave now, we can meet later." I sent him a smile to assure him while he still clung on to my arm. "When will you come again?" He asked me, looking at me calculatingly. "I always feel happy when you are around me, please don't let me stay sad for long. I want to be happy happy always." I could see the sadness and loneliness in his eyes, it was almost as if he was lonely in the house. He and his younger brother
Secretly, I made it towards my room and I was certain Lustrow wouldn't be there. My dress was ragged and stained by some substances I wasn't aware of. I avoided everyone on my way by covering my self with a veil so they wouldn't see my dress and follow by multiple, questions that I knew I would not be able to answer. Hastily, I quickened my steps, I was tired and I needed to rest. My body was still tickling due to the effect of contact with the cockroach. "My lady?"Oh lord! I chanted. Someone had noticed me but I decided to pretend it was not me and continue to move until she began to follow me. "Hey who are you? Wait! Why are you covering your face?" She ran after me and pulled down my veil, revealing everything. I stood still with my head hung down. "My lady? What!?" It was Astrid, my personal maid. I used a palm to cover her mouth to stop her from speaking loudly and I guessed she understood. She grasped my arm and took me to the room. "My lady, what's all this?"
Lunar Dessa and I paced forth and back in the hospital reception expecting the doctor to come out of the ward and give us any news about Lustrow. Whatever happened to Lustrow was not known to anybody. He was fine when he came out of his private room, he didn't look weak or pale so what happened? It couldn't be because he saw me because I wasn't a ghost and he didn't look frightened before zonking out. Lunnar Dessa was worried, she kept on asking me how it happened, a question I had no answer for. If I told her that I had gone to meet him in his private room, she could hold me responsible for Lustrow's currentll condition, so I remained quiet. After waiting for hours, sitting and standing everytime we heard the creaks of the door thinking it was the doctor, the doctor eventually come out and came to us. "Your son is safe now." He told the lunar. "Thank you so much doctor, can we meet him now?" There was a tremor of impatience in the Luna's voice as she spoke. "No! You c
"Who are you?" I asked the maid who was arranging the room, who made it look very beautiful. It smelled so fresh, like beautiful flowers. I could also perceive the aroma of ginger tea combined with something else I couldn't tell, but it smelled delicious. "I am your new maid my lady. My name is Karla." She said curtsying. "Where is Astrid?" I asked her. Astrid was a very nice maid. She was an intelligent nice girl whom I liked and trusted so much. I didn't want a new maid because no one would never be like Astrid. She was the only one who could understand my pain and me myself, she gave me what I wanted. She even laid her lives for me, with her help, I was able to communicate with Leoric even without seeing him. She would deliver my better to him and delivered his message to me. She was a rare gem to me that I would never want to lose. "She has been transferred to the elder Luna's quarter." The maid said and I knew taht was all. I couldn't place the order of her retu
"My Lord..." Leoric stood up. "It's quite simple, it's very easy for a criminal to gather as many as possible fake things just to prove him or herself nor guilty and that's what Alpha Ailwyn and Luna Dessa did, with you permission, I will like to call out three people who has been working for Silver pack for years just to testify. Whatever they say should be your reason for judgement." What was Leoric upto this time? I didn't have an idea of this new plan of his. Looking at faces of the Silver pack members, they were feeling awkward. Who could it be that Leoric wanted to call out? He didn't even tell me about it, he kept everyone in suspense as he was yet to call out the names of the people. "Permission is granted. You can call out anyone you wish, if they are able to convince the court, then you will be victorious but if they fail to prov
"Ailwyn!" The head pack called his name loud and clear. Alpha Ailwyn's eyes flared up as he slowly stood up from his chair, awaiting the head pack's next order. Not just his heart must have jolted up but everyone's because no one knew what he was going to say next. The air was again tensed, everyone sat still, nervous, sick and eager. The head back signalled him to move to the box which he did immediately. One could see that he was so uneasy. Reaching the box, the plotter stood up. "Alpha Leoric, you must have heard all the allegations. It was explicit indeed, which means you understand the concept of what was said. How do you plead, are you guilty or not?" "How many times will I tell you I am not guilty that it's all false accusations? Do you want me to go up the hill and declare it the to the whole world that I ain't guilty? This is an embarrassment and I don't expect any of you to keep here for so long." Alpha Ailwyn shouted angrily at the plotter but he remained calm
The courtroom was filled with different categories of personalities, people with high status and some people I never saw in the town. The air was still and tense. To break the tension, people try to make conversations in low voices. Harolden and Lustrow was there, glancing at where I and Leoric was sitting now and then. Alpha Ailwyn and Luna Dessa were sitting some where else but yet, they were not stable. It was as though they didn't know why there were being called to court. The plotter suddenly sprung to his feet. The murmuring fades away. We all stood up when the head of packs entered the courtroom. He took his seat. The audience sat. The plotter gave him a file. "We have no time to waste, call the first case." He said. "The first case, Alpha Ailwyn Lochlain Silver and Luna Dessa Ailwyn Silver." There was silence as Luna De
When Leoric said he would be going to report the case to the head pack, I thought he was kidding. I didn't expect it to be so soon, how would we even start? What would we say happened? Leoric sat there in the morning arranging the documents we got from his mother, as he cross checked the documents, tears coursed down from his eyes. I knew he was having the memories of his mother. I felt so lonely but when he saw me coming out of the other room, unaware that I had been watching him he quickly wiped off his tears. "Will you have some tea this morning? It's snowing." I asked him and he nodded. I went to prepare his tea and gave it to him. "Leoric!" I called. He looked up wearing a smile. "Yes?" He answered. "How are you feeling this morning? I mean, I saw you." "I am okay, you don't have to bother, all o
"Enough Lustrow!" Alpha Ailwyn raised his hand up. "You sent them to go after Leoric but you are afraid to go... You must be very careful with the way you give orders to your soldiers. If you are scared of getting killed, why are you then sending your soldiers?" "If that's the case, Alpha Ailwyn... Why don't you go and look for him yourself... You are experienced, you should know more about your son, since you are not scared of him I suggest you go to him yourself." "What!?" Lustrow, Alpha Ailwyn and Luna Dessa exclaimed at Harolden's statement. "What are you saying?" Luna Dessa pulled her to face her. She was talking with no control, this could enrage Alpha Ailwyn but she couldn't understand. "Do you even know whom you are referring to? How dare you speak to Alpha Ailwyn in that manner? Do not overstep your limi
In the morning when Leoric opened his eyes with the burning lights of the sun, he saw her bare back in front of him. She was sleeping comfortably like a baby, all innocent, all unaware of the harsh realities and necessities of the world. This was what he wanted, he wanted peace of mind for him and his wife, they were getting it because there was no one to come disturb them up there because no one knew of their whereabouts. His one hand was resting near her belly button, he was trying to feel his baby which was in her womb and that was also probably because he was caressing her to help her sleep peacefully without disturbance. He supported his head with the other hand of his and tilted himself up a bit up on the bed and his eyes got immersed in the beauty of her body, all alabaster, milky, all spotless and smooth. He ran his fingers to her back. Eve
Just as I fell down to the floor after blow punch I got in the rib, Suddenly, I heard a yelp of a wolf which I knew raised a red flag.. I was down hearted, a curse almost escaped my lips. I looked up just to see one of the black wolves galloping towards me, its claws were out and I knew it had only come for my protruded stomach which I knew was one of the reason we were bring chased, it was apparent from its eyes. They must have concluded that Leoric was the one responsible for my pregnancy. Not having the strength to defend myself, I shut my eyes waiting for what was going to happen next. This would be fate not a curse, if we were destined to be held captive then we would be but I hoped not... I was terrified nevertheless. It was a fast swish! I heard the sound of a object like a knife slashing through something which also sounded like a flesh... It was me, my heart jumped up to my throat at the thought. I shot my eyes opened when I couldn't feel any pain, and then I saw the de
"Alpha Lustrow, I am telling you the truth... He has killed so many soldiers. Alpha Leoric stole away with that pregnant maid, Silene!" He told and they all rose up at the same time ejaculating.. "What!?" "I am telling the truth my lord, please... You can come to see it yourself, he dumped the dead bodies of the soldiers in the tunnel...." Alpha Ailwyn and Luna Dessa not wanting to hear anything he was saying again, they stormed out of the dinning hall to see if what the soldier was saying was true and Lustrow went after them. They went to check the tunnel the soldier mentioned and they found a pile of dead bodies of soldiers in the tunnel. They were so shocked and dumbfounded, they couldn't believe that Leoric could do such a thing. Just as they were pondering on the reason Leoric absconded with Silene, another maid ran to them falling on her knees. She was shivering as she was trying to say something. "What is wrong with you?" Harolden asked her with a slap.
"Silene, it's time you closed your eyes now." Just as he said, his fingers began to elongate. Straight and with sharp, glittering edges with pointed tips. I closed my eyes and tried not to listen to any sound around me but the rhythm of my own heart. The sound that would give me the peace of mind and not make me feel distressed. We were still moving quickly on the horse and while my eyes were closed all I could hear, from the right to the left was the sound of fleshes being ripped. The washing sound of blood as it spluttered to the floor and the sounds the flesh made as the claws sunk into them. I was tempted to open my eyes by the groans of the soldiers, to see how they were being killed but Leoric kept ringing it to my ears and I kept my eyes still shut. He knew I could lose my consciousness at the sight of it. Leoric rode as fast as he could, making sure he kill all the soldier
