LISA’S POV

After my call with Adam, it was as if the conversation had magically transformed my mood it felt nice getting back at him for once. Almost everything felt nice for the rest of my shift,

But my smile vanished when I reached my car after work and saw him leaning against it, anxiety written all over his face. I don't know if it's because I haven't seen him in a while, but he had faint dark circles under his eyes.

I decided to make a run for it and get a taxi, planning to come back for the car tomorrow. But it was too late—his eyes found me, stopping me from moving an inch from where i stood.

I was serious when I told him I didn't want to talk. I didn't know where to start, and I wasn't sure if he would make sense or play the victim. If he did, it would make me furious, and I didn't want to lose my composure in the parking lot of my workplace.

I took a sharp intake of breath before strolling to my car.

"Hey," he flashed me a sad smile.

But I didn't respond. He was standing ri

LISA’S POV“Here,” Adam says, pulling out a seat for me, but I take the seat opposite his. “No, thank you.” He shakes his head with a little smile, seating himself instead.“So what is it that you so badly want to talk about?” I ask, taking a sip of my iced latte with a straw. When we got here, I ordered an iced latte with extra cream while Adam ordered the same but with a slice of chocolate cake.“Yeah, I’ve been calling you for days and you haven’t been picking up,” he begins. “I thought we weren’t telling anyone about us until we figured it out first.”“We didn’t have anything to figure out, Adam. We broke up a year ago, and I didn’t tell anyone then because you asked me not to. It's already been a year. We are way past this, and deceiving the family isn’t something I want to keep doing.”“But I thought you would talk with me before telling Jessica of all people.”I cock a brow at him. What does he mean, "Jessica of all people"? Well, I know what he means. Jessica is the last perso

LISA'S POVI don’t know if the god of unluckiness has found me, because that's the only way to explain all these crazy things that have been happening to me.The only good things I have are the kid and my new friend Jack, but apart from that, everything is a mess. The talk I had with Adam only made me more furious. I don’t know what I did wrong in my last life to deserve awful men lurking around.I let out a sigh and made my way to my apartment. All I want to do is take a shower and spend the rest of my day with my kids. Maybe I’ll take them somewhere tomorrow so we can bond, and I can clear my head and think of a way to deal with the Adam issue once and for all. It’s honestly draining, and I hate that I’ve been lying to a lot of people because of him. When I get to my apartment, I see a shadow leaning beside my door. As I get closer, I pray to whoever is listening up there that it isn’t Adam. I don’t think I’ll be able to keep my composure around him after the nonsense he spewed earl

  • The Alpha’s reckoning    49: UNSETTLED BUSSINESS

RONAN'S POV"What do you mean she's not coming?" I hiss at Kyle. I probably shouldn’t have sent him in the first place. Kyle and Lisa had always had bad blood between them. For some reason, Kyle never liked her, even though he had never raised a hand against her. I could tell he didn't like her.He probably said something stupid to upset her and made things worse. I should’ve sent Jack; he has a way with people and thinks before he speaks, unlike the macho man standing next to me with his gaze to the floor. But Kyle was the only option because I had a meeting to attend, and I honestly didn’t want to see Lisa. Things would’ve been worse if I had gone, and I couldn't send Jack because things are still a bit salty between us. He hasn’t been coming to my office for our meetings, and he doesn’t even come by for dinner like before. He only does his rounds around the border and spends half of his time with his sister and the other half smiling at his phone like an idiot. As much as I want to

  • The Alpha’s reckoning    50: I HAVE DEMANDS

**RONAN’S POV**The last thing I wanted to do was go to Lisa myself. I would be the last person she would want to see. But I guess Kyle is a bigger fool than I thought. Who knows what nonsense he spewed that made her decline? I clearly told him to persuade her and make a deal with her if necessary, but he obviously did the opposite of what I said. And now, we're running out of time, so I have to face her and hope I say the right words this time and that she comes back with me.Glancing at my wristwatch, I see I have two hours and a few minutes before the blue moon appears. If I drive fast enough, I’ll get to the town in thirty minutes tops, so I have some time to talk to Lisa and hopefully make a deal with her.Because if not tonight, we don’t know when the next blue moon will appear. This is our golden opportunity to heal my father. It could take weeks, months, or even years before the next blue moon comes.Sliding into my Ferrari SF90, I strap in my seat belt before grabbing the Add

**LISA’S POV**Although I had vowed never to set foot in that pack again, I couldn't stop thinking about Marien and how she was handling everything on her own. Even though Kyle had been nasty and arrogant with his words, I still found myself wondering how she was doing. For a moment, I considered going to help. But then, Ronan and the painful memories of how the pack had treated me pulled me back. A part of me wanted to rise above it and offer help, but I was tired of being the bigger person, doing what I thought was right, and getting nothing in return. All I received was mockery and disrespect. I am a woman of my word, so when I said the deal was off, I meant it. Even though I said it in the heat of the moment, I still stand by it.But despite all that, I couldn’t silence the little voices whispering in my head. So when Ronan came to me himself, the only reason I agreed to follow him was because I wanted to help Marien. If anything, she had been a friend of my mother’s. The deal he

  • The Alpha’s reckoning    52: THE HEALING

**LISA’S POV**It took me a few minutes to clean up and sanitize. With my hair fully tucked in a cap and a face mask covering my face, I walk into the surgical room. It’s a huge room with large glass windows. In all my years as a surgeon, moving from one operating room to another, I’ve never been in an operating room with such large windows. However, I find it very clever. This isn't like the typical surgeries I do almost every day in the hospital; this is more of a traditional werewolf healing ritual. We need as much moonlight as possible in the room to aid in the healing process.Back in the day, this would have been done outside, right under the moon. But to avoid the risk of infection, this is the most clever option we have.Slipping on my gloves, I turn to Marien. “Are you ready?”“I always am,” she smiles.“We need to start right now because we don’t know how long the blue moon is going to last when it appears.”“Of course.” The blue moon is quite tricky. Sometimes it appears fo

**LISA'S POV**“You should go get some rest, dear. I’ll be here monitoring him till the morning,” Marien says as she walks back into the room.“You know, old people need more rest than the younger ones,” I tease her.“Well, this old lady is nothing like those old ladies in your human world,” she jokes, opening the door. “Now out! I left you a towel, and there’s some tea in the healer’s quarters.”“Okay, ma’am,” I chuckle before leaving the room.I return to the still room where I kept my bag. It's a good thing I brought another outfit. I take it and walk to the bathroom, taking a warm shower and changing into the black sweatpants and long-sleeved t-shirt. I don’t know why I thought there would be a hair dryer in here.I shouldn’t have wet my hair; I should’ve waited until tomorrow when I get home. I try my best to dry it with the towel I found on the rack, but I’m too exhausted to keep trying. So when my hair is slightly damp, I take my bag and head for the healer’s quarters, hoping I

**LISA’S POV**“Oh my God, I'm so sorry, I didn’t mean to hit you,” I plead, rushing to his side.I probably didn’t hit him that hard, right? It was just a silly stick; he’s definitely okay... well, I hope he is. I lean down to his level. “Are you okay?” I ask.“Who are you?” He gives me a confused look. What did I do? Did I hit him that hard? “Where am I? How did I get here?”What do I do now? Shit, I shouldn’t have resorted to violence; I should have thought it through before I hit him. I need to think now—what do I do? I don’t think I can take him back to the healers on my own.My internal conflict is interrupted by a hearty laugh that breaks the silence. “You idiot,” I say, slapping Jack on the shoulder.“What was that for?” he winces, sitting up from the floor.“You could’ve killed me,” Jack groans.“You almost gave me a heart attack! I thought you lost your memories!” I say, standing up.“In my defense, you almost did,” he smirks, arching his hand for me to help him up, but I sl

  • The Alpha’s reckoning    120: CALM BEFORE THE STORM

RONAN’S POV.The sun had already set by the time we returned to the pack house. Kyle carried Penny, who had fallen asleep somewhere along the way, her tiny head resting on his shoulder. Sergio was in my arms, his small body heavy with sleep until he stirred, rubbing his eyes groggily. The men I brought with me had already been dismissed, though not without Kyle warning them: "If I hear anything about that bear from anyone, you’ll lose your heads." They had nodded and slinked off, knowing better than to test his word. As we reached the apartment, I shifted Sergio gently in my arms and knocked on the door. For a moment, everything was quiet. Then the door swung open. Lisa stood there, her expression anxious and uncertain until her eyes landed on the sleepy boy in my arms. “Sergio!” she gasped, her hands flying to cover her mouth. Tears welled in her eyes as she dropped to her knees, unable to contain her relief. The boy’s sleepy face lit up with a tired but genuine smile. “

It's a warning: Take one step, and I’ll tear you apart. But I don't care if it rips me to shreds so long as I can get those children away and ensure their safety, I'll take whatever comes.“Don’t attack us,” Sergio says calmly, his small voice cutting through the tension. The bear lowers its growl as Sergio pats it on the head. “It’s okay, Bruno. They won’t hurt us it’s just my daddy and his friends,” he says with a smile. To my surprise, the bear kneels, allowing Sergio to slide off its back like it's nothing more than a trained pony.“Daddy!” Sergio runs toward me, his tiny arms outstretched. I scoop him up, letting out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding. The relief washes over me like a wave, he's safe. But the bear's dark eyes are still fixed on me, tracking every move I make as if daring me to try something reckless. From th

RONAN’S POV“Kyle, you stay back. Howard and Team A will come with me,” I state firmly, knowing full well Kyle is going to argue. But he needs rest. Those bastards roughed him up, and I made him interrogate them again. As much as he won’t admit it, he’s not at full strength yet.Team A is made up of our most trusted warriors. I would’ve gone alone, but I need all the eyes I can get and only trusted eyes. Someone from the inside helped with the kidnapping; I feel it in my gut.Even though they got in during the race, they couldn’t have made it this far without help. When I find out who betrayed us, I’ll make an example of them so no one ever tries it again.Kyle stands his ground, hands in his pockets. “I’m coming with you.”His wounds have mostly healed, just a slight pinkish tint on his cheek. But it doesn’t change the fact that he needs rest.“No, you need to go and rest,” I tell him firmly.“My niece is missing too,” Kyle says quietly, his gaze unwavering. “Both kids are like my ow

RONAN'S POVFolding the sleeves of my blue button up shirt, I slip on my brass knuckles before taking a seat opposite him. The blonde guy across from me looks seconds away from pissing his pants. I tap the table lightly and lean forward with a cold smile. “We're in for some games tonight. I hope you’re ready.” He glares at me, trying to act tough. “What do you want from me?” I rest my elbows on the table. “First, how about you tell me your name?” “I’m not telling you shit,” he snarls. “Wrong answer,” I mutter, slamming my brass-covered fist into his face once, then twice. The sound of bone cracking echoes through the room as blood pours from his mouth. A tooth drops onto the table with a dull clink, and he groans in pain, spitting blood. “That should tell you I’m not here to play your ‘loyal spy’ games,” I say, wiping my knuckles clean. “Now, let’s try this again. What’s your name?” “Abel,” he whispers, trying hard to sound calm, but the fear in his eyes gives him away.

  • The Alpha’s reckoning    116: FINDING THE ANSWERS

RONAN’S POV “Baby, are you okay?” I ask, though I already know the answer. I don’t need to ask to know she isn’t okay. For the past three days, she hasn’t cried or shown any vulnerability. I know she wants Sergio back, I do too. Just the thought of what might be happening to my son right now makes me sick. I don’t know exactly what is going on, but if even a single strand of hair is missing from his head when I find him, I will make sure I burn down any pack or territory involved, no matter how small their part. “Do I look like I’m okay?” she asks, raising an eyebrow. “You don’t look okay,” I reply softly. She looks far from it. I know exactly what she’s doing, suppressing her emotions to stay strong. Gemma has been all over the place, crying and begging me to find her daughter. Lisa has been the only one holding things together, which means she’s bottling everything up to stay rational for everyone’s sake. But it’s eating her alive, and I know it because I feel it too. “L

LISA'S POV In a flash, we are no longer behind the bleachers, and the entire place erupts into chaos. People scatter in every direction, panicked voices rising over one another. My heart stutters in my chest, and my mind goes blank. My entire body freezes as if someone flipped a switch, cutting off my ability to think, move, or even breathe.Everything feels like it has stopped.“Lisa, I need to get you to safety now, please, don’t panic,” Ronan urges, his voice strained with urgency. His words barely register. It feels like I’m hearing them underwater, faint and distant. My limbs are paralyzed, every muscle locked in place, as if I have forgotten how to move.“I can’t go.” My voice is a trembling whisper as I take a step toward the chaotic crowd.“Lisa, no, it’s not safe in there,” Ronan shouts above the noise, trying to hold me back.“The kids are still in there! How am I supposed to leave when my children are caught in that madness?” My voice cracks with desperation as I try to sh

"Can you keep an eye on Sergio for me?""Of course," Gemma said, giving me a reassuring smile."Hello," I say as I reach the back of the benches."Hey, Lis. I need your help. I’ve got a patient, and he’s not breathing," Jessica's voice comes through the line, shaky and alarmed."Jessie, I need you to calm down. Breathe," I say slowly, using my most soothing tone. I wait as she takes a few deep breaths. When she sounds steadier, I continue, "Okay, tell me what’s going on.""He’s out of surgery, and when he woke up, everything was fine. But then he fell asleep, and I thought it was just regular sleep, but... I think someone disconnected the heart monitor.""Have you tried turning it back on?" I ask."Yes, I did. It's so nice to finally put a face to the name," "Good things, I hope?" I replied, trying to sound polite."Very good things," she assured me with another smile. Then her gaze shifted down. "And who is this little guy?" She crouched to Sergio’s level, but he quickly ran to hide behind me."Oh, that's my son. He tends to be a little shy around new people," I explained, gently patting Sergio’s head."He's adorable!" she said with a small wave in his direction, but Sergio clung tighter to my leg. Gretchen didn’t seem offended and stood back up, brushing it off easily. She then turned toward Gemma with a friendly grin."And you must be Gemma, right?"The easy smile that had been on Gemma’s face moments ago faded.
