The hall emptied quickly, pack members hurrying to the courtyard.
I followed, my heart racing with anticipation. Vivian's gaze lingered on me before she turned to leave. Alpha Elijah and Dominique flanked her, their faces stern. Sophia, Alice, and the red-gowned woman remained on the stage, their eyes fixed on Kael. He stood, his eyes looking everywhere but me. As I exited the hall, the cool night air enveloped me. The courtyard was packed, pack members gathering around the center. The sky above transformed, turning pitch black, thunder rumbled and bright light flashed through the sky, illuminating the yard. Everyone gasp, huddling against each other. Stars disappeared, replaced by an eerie darkness. A collective murmur spread through the crowd. The air thickened with tension. I stood at the edge of the crowd, unsure what to do. Alice appeared beside me, her eyes serious. "Astrid," she whispered, "come with me." I followed her, weaving through the silent pack members. We reached the center, where Kael, Sophia, and the red-gowned woman stood. Alice positioned me beside her, her gaze fixed on Alpha Kael. The group stood in silence, awaiting whatever was coming. “What is going on?” I whispered to Alice. “The Blood Moon ritual.” She replied, her voice low and airy. The darkness above seemed to pulse, as if alive. Suddenly, Alpha Kael's gaze dropped, his eyes locking onto mine. My heart skipped a beat. But he didn't speak. Instead, he turned his attention back to the sky. The crimson glow intensified, casting an ominous light on the courtyard. The pack members held their breath, anticipating the next move. Just then Alice raised her hands, her voice rising in a haunting chant: "Vena, sanguis, caelo!" ("Veins, blood, heaven!) The words echoed through the courtyard, amplified by the eerie silence. The red glow above intensified, and suddenly, thick droplets began falling from the sky. At first I thought it was just rain, but then a string metallic smell hit my nostrils. I looked down at my hands, it was stained red! Blood had began raining down upon us, splattering the ground, the pack members, and me. I gasped, shocked by what I was witnessing, color drained from my face and the good I had managed to hold down earlier, was in my throat again. The blood soaked through my gown, weighing me down. Alice's chant grew louder, her eyes flashing with an otherworldly energy: "Sanguis, vena, caelo! Redemptio et damnatio!" ("Blood, veins, heaven! Redemption and damnation!) The pack members began to shift, their bodies changing into wolf forms. Their howls rose, mingling with Alice's chant. Soon brown and Ash wolves filled the yard. Maya had changed, and so had Vivian, Elijah and Dominique. I turned around, looking for familiar faces, anything to hold on to, to know it wasn’t just me that was witnessing this. Alpha Kael stood tall, his eyes burning with an intense power. Sophia and the red-gowned woman flanked him, their faces twisted in a mixture of ecstasy and agony in their human form. The blood rain intensified, pooling around our feet. I stumbled, struggling to maintain balance. Alice's chant reached a fever pitch: "Vena, sanguis, caelo! Redemptio et damnatio!" The courtyard became a sea of red, as if the very heavens themselves were bleeding. I felt a presence beside me. Alpha Kael's gaze locked onto mine. His eyes gleaming with darkness, a hidden truth. And I knew, in that moment, I was forever bound to this pack, and their mysterious, psychotic blood-soaked ritual. Sophia approached Alice, holding a delicate, ornate cup. Alice took it, her eyes gleaming with an intense light. She raised the cup to the sky, letting the droplets of blood fall freely into it. The cup filled quickly, overflowing with the crimson liquid. Alice's chant continued, her voice weaving a dark, hypnotic spell: "Sanguis, vena, caelo! Redemptio et damnatio!" The pack members' howls grew louder, their wolf forms writhing in ecstasy. Alpha Kael's gaze never left mine, his eyes burning with an inner fire. The red-gowned woman stepped forward, her eyes flashing with excitement. She reached out, taking the cup from Alice, she held it out to Kael, "I, Veronica StormCloud, daughter of the legendary Alpha Victor Nightshade, hereby gift my son Kael, the greatest alpha of all times, his heritage!" She held out the cup, its crimson contents glistening in the eerie light. "The Blood of the Ancients, spilled from the heavens themselves, to awaken the true power within!" Alpha Kael's eyes flashed with anticipation. He took the cup, his fingers closing around it like a vice. Veronica's gaze swept the crowd, her eyes burning with pride. "By this sacred ritual, Kael, son of Draka, claims his birthright!" The pack members erupted into cheers and howls. Kael raised the cup to his lips, and drank, blood dripping from the corner of his mouth, down to his throat. I couldn’t believe what was happening. This people were barbarians! Animals! Turning around, I pulled the now heavy gown up to my thighs and ran, the rain and wind wiping across my face in a stinging motion, I kept on running as fast as my legs could carry me, hurling my guts upon the grass when I got to a fountain behind the pack house, my stomach churned. A hand grab my shoulders causing me to shriek wiping my head around. “Shh, it’s me. We have to go back.” Maya said, her eyes holding pity and apology. “What the fuck! is going on?” I screamed. “It’s a ritual we have performed for the last decades after the curse.” “What curse?” I asked, my eyes glossy from the tears that gathered in them. “It’s not my story to tell, we have to get back now. And just do as they say and you’ll be fine.” Maya pulled me up, half dragging me back to the courtyard where they were all gathered still in their wolf forms. I could see Alice from here, her white hair was now pure red. The blood rain intensified, soaking us all. I felt a shiver run down my spine. As Kael's eyes met mine, it was blood red. That was when it hit me, he wasn’t just an ordinary Wolf, he was a werewolf the last of their kind. Horror swept across my face, I could feel my legs giving away under his gaze. “Astrid,” Alice called pulling me out of the trance I thought I was in. “Step forward,” Maya nudged me. I swallowed, placing one foot I front of the other until I got to the center of the court yard. “Drink.” She said, holding out the same cup to me. “Wha…what?” I stuttered, unable to find my voice. “You have to drink from the cup Astrid, remember what I said, do as they say and you’ll be fine.” Maya whispered from behind me. I slowly stretched out my hand that was visibly shaking. I took the goblet into my hand, peering inside it. I couldn’t see what was in it but I already knew what it was. I looked back up, glancing around me, the howls had died down and the blood rain had reduced to a drizzle. Everyone was staring at me like was a prey and they were all hunters. Closing my eyes, mind and hopefully tastebuds, I poured the contents of the cup straight into my throat. The bittersweet taste hit me almost immediately, my face twisted in disgust and the crowds erupted in deep long howls once again. In a matter of seconds I couldn’t feel my feet, I broke out in sweat and the world started spinning. Calling out a name, I fell backwards, just as the sky began to clear up and the moon peaked from behind the dark clouds. Then everywhere went silent.A bright stream of moon shone into the room, my head felt really heavy, and the bed was a little harder, groaning I squinted my eyes a strong scent hitting my nostrils. My eyes immediately shut open, scanning the room. It was empty, and unfamiliar. “Hello?” I called out “Is anybody here?” No response, I scrambled to get out of the bed, but my knees were still weak and I fell to the floor, “shit!” I cursed, as my body collided with the floor in the thud. Sighing I struggled to get back up on my feet, my whole body was a wreck and my mind was foggy, “Where am i?” I said, looked around the room. Another wave of heat rolls off my body when the same scent hit me again. It clouded my whole sense and my breathing became ragged. Finally letting go of the sheets I gripped tightly, I hoisted myself up with the help of the bed frame, following the scent. “Is someone here?” I asked, shiver running down my spine, walking towards the dark corner of the room. Just then a tall h
His hands trailed down my back, I stood stiff, drowning out the whatever feelings were bubbling up inside. “Mine” he growled, his breaths skimmed across my neck. I gasped, as he suddenly pinched my nipples without warning, using his large hand to grab my waist keeping my feet firmly on that spot. “You will bear my mark, and carry my cubs,” he whispered. I stood motionless, staring at the empty space in front of me. “Get your ass in the bed and lift it in the air like a good little mouse you are,” he hisses into my ear. The demand makes me even more wet which I hated myself for, turning around I compiled to him, laying down on my stomach and pushing my knees up until it touched my breast. “Good little mouse,” he moaned, his voice vibrates through my body. With the exposed position, the scent of my arousal spread the room, I knew I was a pool of wetness that I couldn’t control it dripped down my inner thighs. He hummed in approved, tearing off his shirt and pulling dow
I woke up to the warmth of my bed, groggily opening my eyes to find myself in my own room. The events of the previous night felt like a dream, but the soreness between my legs and the memories etched in my mind told me otherwise. I slowly sat up, rubbing my temples to ease the throbbing headache. My eyes scanned the room, taking in the familiar surroundings. It was mid day already, the sun shone bright into the room. How did I even get here? A soft knock on the door broke the silence. "Astrid, are you awake?" Maya's gentle voice called out. I recognized the voice of my personal maid. "Yes, I'm awake," I replied, my voice hoarse from crying. The door creaked open, and Maya entered with a tray of steaming hot food. "I brought your breakfast, milady," she said, setting the tray down on my bedside table. My stomach growled at the aroma of freshly baked bread and roasted meats. Maya helped me sit up and fluffed my pillows. "Thank you, Maya," I managed to say, trying to hide my
“What is going on?” I asked Sophia as we walked out of the kitchen She remained silent in an unnerving manner. "What's going on? Did I do something wrong?" I asked again , trying to keep up with her brisk pace. Sophia didn't respond, leading me through the winding corridors of the mansion. We finally stopped at a door I recognized – the entrance to the luna’s private quarters. Veronica. My heart skipped a beat. Was I really in trouble? Sophia opened the door and nudged me inside. "She wants to see you," she said, her expression unreadable. I stepped inside, my eyes adjusting to the dim lighting. The room was empty, except for a figure standing by the window, cleaning the glass steadily. I found myself in an elegant anteroom. Sophia gestured for me to follow her. We walked through another set of doors, leading to the Luna's private chambers. The room was warm and inviting, with soft cushions and a crackling fireplace. Veronica, the Luna, sat on a plush couch, her once
“Line up girls! the Alphas and their Beta’s will be here today to pick a bride or a slave. So pray to the moon goddess that you’ll get picked or that’s another year for you here!” Madam Claudia shouted, banging the baton on the cell bars. “Who do you think will be here today?” Ruby, one of the girls in my room asked, happily pulling her dress over her head. “I hope I get picked. Better to be a slave to one wolf than a whore to all.” Renee snorted. She was another girl in the room and my worst enemy. “You! Get your scurry self here and clean my boots, at least one of us needs to be clean today,” she said, pointing to me. I nodded, walking over to her bed and bending forward to grab her boots from under the bed. “What the fuck do you think you’re doing? Huh?” She screamed in my ear, pulling my hair back. “Renee, you’re hurting me,” I whined, tears gathering in my eyes. “ let her go Renee, madam Claudia will be back soon. She won’t like that.” Aria said, coming out of our s
“Alright girls, file out.” Madam Claudia called from the hallway. “Astrid, sit. Let me brush your hair, you look like a tangled mess.” Aria said to me. Aria was the oldest she-wolf in the house of the lost. She has been here for eight years and house of the lost has alone stood for nine. She was brought here as a girl, got her first blood here, and turned to her wolf form here. She was more like a daughter to madam Claudia, we all know that madam Claudia loved her like family, but no one has ever spoken about it. She just turned 22 and has never been picked. I didn’t understand why, because she was very beautiful, her red hair glistened under the morning sun. I sat in front of the mirror in the room, she came up behind me holding her brush. “Hopefully someone picks you today, or rather pick Renee. I can’t deal with her dirty character anymore.” She said, “Why haven’t you been picked all this years?” I asked, looking at our reflection in the mirror. Pain flashed in her eyes
“The selection is about to begin. Cast your eyes on the ground girls!” Madam Claudia said from the end of the hall, her voice echoing. There was a little whispers, then there was silence. All you could hear were the slow pairs of boots walking on the paved floor. I looked down, my chest thumping against my skin. “Breath Astrid, or you’re going to collapse.” Aria said from my side. I nodded, taking deep breaths and exhaling, what was going to be my fate? Would I rather be picked than stay here for the rest of my life. Oh Selene if you can hear me, please be less cruel to me. I prayed, hoping that at least I wouldn’t get noticed. Then a pair of boots stopped in front of me, my breath caught in my throat. The shoe was a brown leather, one you could only see on the feet of the rich. It smelled like it had been polished a million times over that morning and I wondered if it was some like me that did that. “Who is she?” The man grunted to madam Claudia, I think. “Tha
I walked into the dark room my chest thumping against my skin. “Pack your things, you have leaving today.” Madam Claudia spoke. “What?” I gasped. The man in the chair had his back to me but I cold feel the cold aura the was coming from him. I’ve been bought? “Don’t let me repeat myself Astrid, pack your things.” Madam Claudia answered. “Ye…yes ma’m.” I stuttered turning my back to them and walking out of the room. I got across the hall without much hassle from Renee and her friends but my happiness was short lived. I pushed open the bar door to the room, and entered. The bar doors were remade last moon when one of the girls was caught bent over by a guard in her room while her roommates stood outside waiting. I had never seen madam Claudia as angry as she was that day. She roared and turned to her wolf form, slashing the man from behind. His dead body dropped on the girl, blood and skin splattered everywhere. Well that was a warning to all of us. And we never heard
