Chapter 004

last update Last Updated: 2024-11-01 01:14:34

I walked into the dark room my chest thumping against my skin.

“Pack your things, you have leaving today.” Madam Claudia spoke.

“What?” I gasped.

The man in the chair had his back to me but I cold feel the cold aura the was coming from him.

I’ve been bought?

“Don’t let me repeat myself Astrid, pack your things.” Madam Claudia answered.

“Ye…yes ma’m.” I stuttered turning my back to them and walking out of the room.

I got across the hall without much hassle from Renee and her friends but my happiness was short lived.

I pushed open the bar door to the room, and entered. The bar doors were remade last moon when one of the girls was caught bent over by a guard in her room while her roommates stood outside waiting.

I had never seen madam Claudia as angry as she was that day. She roared and turned to her wolf form, slashing the man from behind. His dead body dropped on the girl, blood and skin splattered everywhere.

Well that was a warning to all of us. And we never heard of the girl again as she was dragged out naked from the room. Nobody dared to asked what her fate was with madam Claudia.

“What was that about?” Renee asked, immediately I stepped into the room.

“What?” I asked, avoiding her eyes.

“Don’t act dumb with me bitch, why were you called to the dark room?” Renee sneered.

“I’m leaving today…….” I whispered, looking down at my shoes.

“What!?” She screamed.

“You got selected?” One of her friends asked wide eyed.

I nodded.

“By who?” The girl asked again.

“I….don’t know.” I said, still looking at my shoes. My big toe stuck out from my left boot. The shoe was old and worn out.

“What the hell do you mean by that? Renee asked, finally getting her tongue.

“I don’t know…… madam Claudia just asked me to pack my bags and that’s all the information I got.”

“Could it be Alpha Kael?” The girl who had spoken earlier, asked.

My eyes widened at the new information. He was the one seated in the office when I entered, every other alpha’s and Beta’s were long gone.

Renee snorted, “and why would he pick her?”

“Why else will she be called to the dark room while he was there with madam Claudia?” They argued.

The possibility of me leaving here was far fetched but me leaving here with Alpha Kael was a more disturbing news.

“Um……please I need to start packing, madam Claudia will be here anytime soon.” I said raising my voice above their arguments.

They quieted down instantly, snapping their heads up me.

One of the girls sneered.

“The goddess really loves you today bitch,” Renee snorted pushing me to the ground.

I hit my ass the hard floor, I whimpered.

“They got the garbage out of my way.” She spat.

They four of them walked over me and out of the room. Tears threatened to fall for my eyes but I held it in, if I was leaving this place my new home may be worse than this and nobody would give a damn about my tears.

I stood up from the floor, dusting the dirt away from my skirt. I walked up to my corner of the room, I looked around. The room was empty, the little traces of Aria and Ruby were gone, Renee’s dresses were scattered across her bed, making it look disorganized.

I sighed, at least I wasn’t going to spend the night alone without them here. I folded my clothes into a small box, went to the bathroom picked up my towel and toothbrush.

The little dresser that we all used stood at the corner of the room, I opened my side of the box, I picked out my chain necklace that I’ve had since I knew myself. It has a little sapphire pendant with a crescent moon and the only thing of value I ever had, given to me by my mother.

I was lucky enough that Renee never got to see it, it would have belonged to her now. I sighed, my eyes caught a glint of Aria’s brush, it was a sliver brush, with stones that rounded the edges, behind it was here initials “AD” written in a very sophisticated handwriting. Never really got to ask her what the “D” in her name was.

I placed it in my bag, putting the necklace around my neck and wrapping my shawl over my neck and shoulders. With one last look around the room that has house me for months, I took in a deep breath and walked out.

A carriage was already packed outside, madam Claudia stood alongside Kael, they were talking about something so I stood silently behind them waiting for them to finish.

“Astrid, come forward,” madam Claudia called after she saw me.

I walked up to them.

“This is Alpha Kael your new owner, try to behave right.” She said, introducing me to the man.

I didn’t dare to look up at him, we were never allowed to look at any Alpha’s in their face it was considered disrespectful.

I nodded.

“Be good,” madam Claudia tapped my back, giving me a tight smile, that was the only form of care she had shown towards me after her one of her dogs tried raping me.

I walked up to the carriage lifting myself into it, I gripped my box tightly.

The man finally finished talking and came around the carriage and entered. I could hear the whispers of the girls as the poked their heads out of the broken window glasses and watched as the carriage began to move.

I shifted to the far end of the carriage, occupying as little space as I could.

The man sat across from me his eyes, steadily burning holes in my back.

“You may need to rest, we have a long journey ahead of us.” He grunted.

His voice was thick, laced with annoyance like he was running a silly errand for someone.

I didn’t expect him to be happy and bubbly but I just had a tiny bit of hope at the back of my mind that I might end up with someone nice.

Well that tiny light just went off.

I nodded, relaxing more into the chair, it was soft and comfortable. The interior of the carriage screamed wealth and power, it was designed with red and gold.

I slowly lifted my face, stealing a glance at the man that sat across from me, his head was laid back and his eyes were closed. I couldn’t tell if he was sleeping or not but I enjoyed the silence, this might be the last time I ever experienced peace like this.

I sighed looking out the window, the city was gradually disappearing behind us.

I could have sworn that I saw wolves running in the woods along side our carriage but the trees were too thick and dark to see through, so maybe it was my brain playing tricks on me.

My stomach rumbled, I clutched my stomach wincing.

“We need to get you fed and properly dressed before we reach.” He spoke, making me jump.

I turned and looked at him, his eyes were still closed.

“I’m not really hungry.” I said, just as my stomach betrayed me and rumbled again.

He scoffed in response.

I turned away from him embarrassed, looking back out the window.

The carriage was a real luxury but we both knew that he could outrun the horses in his wolf form and I was sure madam Claudia had explained my predicament to him.

I sighed for the one hundredth time today, if I was taunted about not transforming into my wolf form at the house of the lost, then where we were headed wouldn’t be any difference.

I rested my head on the window plane, and drifted off to sleep.

The cabin was silent except for the crackling of the fire, a weak and inconsistent sound that seemed to mirror the shattered state of everyone gathered. The room felt suffocating, weighed down by grief so thick it was almost tangible. Megan stood by the window, her back to the group as silent tears ran down her cheeks. Maya knelt on the floor, cradling Ruby’s lifeless body in her arms. Her usually sharp eyes were dulled by sorrow, and her hands trembled as she gently smoothed Ruby’s hair, whispering words of comfort that no longer mattered. Ezra sat in the far corner of the room, his face buried in his hands. His broad shoulders shook, his anguish raw and unrestrained. The sound of his muffled sobs tore through the silence, each one a painful reminder of what had been lost. Alice sat at the edge of the bed, her gaze fixed on the floor. Her hands were clasped tightly in her lap, as though she were trying to ground herself. But even she, the ever-resilient mage, couldn’t mask the

Kael shifted back into his human form, panting, his face streaked with dirt and blood. “We can’t keep this up,” he said urgently. “Astrid, you need to unleash it all. But not here. We have to get you higher—away from the cabin, where you can focus without destroying everything around us.”Alice nodded in agreement, her face pale but determined. “There’s a ridge just above the clearing,” she said quickly. “It’ll give her the vantage point she needs. But we have to hurry—Lavinia’s army is still pressing in.”Kael scooped me into his arms without hesitation, his strength steadying me despite the fire still flickering at my fingertips. “Hold on, little mouse,” he murmured, his tone equal parts fierce and tender. “I’ll get you there.”Ezra and Alice formed a protective barrier around us as Kael sprinted toward the ridge, his steps sure and unrelenting. The sounds of the battle below faded into the background, replaced by the roaring in my ears and the heat coursing through my veins. I coul

Lavinia stepped into the cabin, her presence radiating a cold, suffocating power that seemed to sap the warmth from the room. Her dark gown flowed like liquid shadow, and her smile was as cruel as the blade she carried at her side. Ezra growled, stepping in front of me with his claws extended, blood dripping from his wounds. “You’ll die before you lay a finger on her,” he snarled. Lavinia chuckled, the sound sending chills down my spine. “Oh, Ezra. Still playing the dutiful protector, are we? How quaint.” Her gaze swept over the room, landing briefly on Alice, who was struggling to steady herself, and Maya, who stood ready with her blade drawn. Finally, Lavinia’s eyes found me, cradling my children. Her smile widened. “And there she is. The mother of the hour. How are the little ones? I hope they’re not too fragile—babies rarely survive the chaos I bring.” My grip on my children tightened, a surge of anger cutting through my fear. “You won’t touch them,” I said, my voice tremb

The peaceful moment shattered like glass, my heart dropping as Ezra’s words pierced the air. My grip tightened around my babies instinctively, their tiny, delicate bodies cradled protectively against my chest. Kael was on his feet in an instant, his powerful presence taking command of the room. “How far?” he demanded, his voice cold and sharp, the calm before the storm. Ezra swayed slightly, blood dripping from a wound on his side. “Not far. Maybe minutes. They’ve got rogues, warriors, and... mages. Lavinia’s not playing games.” Maya moved swiftly to Ezra’s side, inspecting his injuries. “You’re hurt.” “I’m fine,” Ezra growled, pulling away. “They sent a scouting party ahead. I dealt with them, but they know where we are now. She’ll be here soon.” Alice stepped forward, her face pale but composed. “We don’t have time to move Astrid or the babies. Not like this.” Kael’s gaze flicked to me, his eyes narrowing with determination. “We’re not moving them. We’ll hold the line he

The room instantly grew hotter as a surge of power erupted from deep within me. Fire blazed out of my body, licking at the walls and ceiling of the cabin. The once-cozy room was engulfed in a dangerous glow, casting shadows that danced wildly in the chaos. Kael didn’t flinch, even as flames licked dangerously close to his skin. His arms tightened around me, his voice steady and calm despite the rising inferno. “Astrid, listen to me!” he called out, his eyes locking onto mine. “You need to focus. You’re in control—*you* are. Don’t let it take over!” “I can’t!” I screamed, another contraction ripping through me, stealing my breath and sanity. My body felt like it was tearing apart, the raw power within me surging uncontrollably. The flames grew stronger, the heat intensifying until I thought it would consume us all. Alice’s voice cut through the chaos, sharp and commanding. “Megan, Maya—circle her now! We need to contain this before it destroys the entire cabin!” The two women

  • The Alpha’s claimed mate    Chapter 108

The world spun around me, a whirl of colors and sounds that felt distant, like echoes of a life I couldn’t quite grasp. I drifted between the edge of consciousness and darkness, the pain from my labor pulling me back every time I threatened to slip away completely. The next thing I felt was a jolt, a sensation like being pulled through the fabric of reality itself. It was disorienting but oddly calming, as if I were floating through a dream. Then, just as quickly, the sensation ended, and I felt the solid ground beneath me again. “She’s here!” Megan’s voice broke through the haze, urgent and filled with relief. “Get her inside, now!” I blinked, trying to focus, but my vision was blurred. I felt hands on me—familiar, steady hands—lifting me gently and carrying me somewhere warmer, safer. “She’s burning up,” Maya’s voice came next, panicked but controlled. “Get her on the bed. Quickly!” I was placed onto a soft surface, the familiar scent of herbs and wood filling my senses. My
