The cold water soothed an invisible burn I couldn’t escape. My whole body felt like it was on fire, a dull ache spreading from my chest. I thought if I distanced myself from her, I might gain some perspective and forgive the betrayal. So, I ran deep into the mountains, as far as I could go.
