When the final bell rang at three o'clock, I walked toward the parking lot. My eyes immediately scanning for Dylan or Reed, the Alpha and Beta properties were practically besides each other so we would share rides.
Neither of them had any extracurricular activities after school today which meant I caught a ride with them this morning instead of going in my own vehicle. They stood beside Reed's black Dodge Charger, Dylan leaning against it as they spoke to the Third in Command's twin daughters.I approached them, quickly walking towards Dylan's side, and giving the twins a small smile which they returned. The twins had newly shifted, their wolves present within their eyes. Both Charlotte and Ella had not yet gained full control of their wolves, having newly shifted they were still in practice.Their older brother and our future Third in Command River had taken the next three weeks off school to follow through with his own training."Ready to go?" Reed questioned once the twins said their goodbyes. I nodded at him and we all got into the car, I sat in the back, pulling my seatbelt around me as Reed raced out of the school's parking lot and down the road. Our high school was located inside our territory and only a 15-minute drive from the pack house. The pack house mainly consisted of newly mated wolves, our pack infirmary and the Alpha's spare office. It didn't take long for Reed to pull up outside the Beta's house, the house I called home. Both Dylan and I piled out of the car and headed towards the front door. We climbed the short steps, the mansion towering over us, the white walls reflecting nicely on the black windows. We walked straight into the house, Dylan informing me that he was going to see his dad in the office.I decided to walk into the kitchen, knowing Grace would be in the middle of cooking dinner.Grace smiled widely at me as I entered the kitchen, manoeuvring myself to the counter stool as she grabbed seasoning from the cupboards, sprinkling it on generously to the spaghetti bolognese that she had cooking on the stove."How was school sweetheart?" Grace asked as she walked to the kitchen sink, washing her hand, the soap bubbling up lavishly before it disappeared under the warm water.I shrugged my shoulders, my eyes meeting hers. "Schools, school," I began, my words making her laugh. "It wasn't the worst, I have a math exam next week which I need to study for, but other than that, I'm fully caught up with work.""School was never my favourite, but you're senior year now and its nearly over. I know we spoke briefly about it before, but have you thought about whether you wanted to go college or do full time warrior duties?"I sighed, my facial expression showing my uncertainty. I hadn't yet decided what I wanted to do; I was still indecisive. "I'm conflicted still, I would like to go to college and have the experience, but I also want to follow my father's footsteps."Grace now stood opposite me on the other side of the counter, her hands reaching out to grab mine which I gripped just as hard. "You haven't got too long to decide, I understand it's not an easy choice but both Julian and I will be with you, whatever you choose to do.""Thanks Grace." I appreciated Grace and Julian more than words could ever express. I stood up, walking around the counter and gave her a hug which she instantly returned."Let's serve dinner, shall we. Would you help set the table for me?" She requested as she pulled back from the hug, giving me a smile before ushering me into the dining room. After setting up the table both Dylan and Julian appeared, Julian giving me a huge smile and questioning me about my day at school. We all sat there talking and eating, discussing our days and what our plans were for the weekend. Dylan, Reed, Chase, Chloe, and I were going to the mall tomorrow since it was Saturday."You both have training on Sunday, don't forget especially since you both have next weekend off as Reed mentioned you were both going to Gabriel's birthday celebrations." Julian's tone was serious when he mentioned training, he was a very serious man when it came to pack business and our combat training.Dylan and I both nodded, I hadn't confirmed whether I was going to go to the party, but I didn't fancy doing combat training either."It's only for five hours, so hopefully it's not too painful." Julian laughed, pleasantly entertained as we all knew we were having training with Alpha Jaxon. The thought of training with our Alpha had my muscles tightening and seizing up. Already able to feel the immense ache and pains that would be occupying my entire body the following week. His training sessions were tough and brutal. He would push you past your limit, to test your full potential."You both look tired, why don't you both go up to bed and I'll clear away tonight." Grace said, staring at Dylan and me.After thanking Grace for the meal, I headed up stairs to my bedroom, it was opposite Dylan's.He decided to go back to the office with Julian, he had paperwork he needed to fill out to do with the pack house and wanted to complete it before going to bed.I threw myself on my bed, I laid there for a few moments before deciding to have a quick shower before bed, knowing I would feel better once I was curled up and comfortable.Moving into my bathroom, I stripped off my dirty clothes before jumping into the shower. Washing my blonde hair in the process before getting out and drying myself down with a towel.I brushed my teeth, then walked into my bedroom, grabbing a pair of shorts and a top before crawling into bed and under my comforter. The warmth immediately making me yawn, my exhaustion catching up to me as I fell into a deep sleep.I woke up to my alarm blaring loudly in my ear, my arm flinging in the direction of the noise, my hands smacking the snooze button before I turned around, tucking my head back into the warmth that surrounded me. Drifting straight back into my deep sleep.Within what felt like twenty minutes, Dylan was banging on my bedroom door before he entered, jumping on top of my bed as I tried to push him off.I scowled at him, unamused and still tired, wanting to get another hour or two sleep."You've slept for about 14 hours. Surely you don't need more sleep?" I nodded my head at his question, rolling onto my side facing away from him as I pulled my comforter up, tucking it beneath my chin as I attempted to get more sleep.Dylan's loud laugh entered my hearing as he yanked the comforter back, his aggravating smile bothering me at this time in the morning. "It's 11 o'clock, they can wait an hour." I whined."Lara, it's 2 o'clock.""Oh no." His comment had me darting up, I didn't want to be responsible for ruining everyone's day or plans. I immediately stood up, rushing towards my wardrobe and grabbing a pair of jeans, a pink casual top and my underwear.Dylan laid casually on top of my bed, turning on my television as I hurried to the bathroom, brushing my teeth, showering, and throwing on the clothes I had picked."I'm ready," I stated as I walked out only to find Dylan smirking at me. I narrowed my eyes on him, my brain acknowledging exactly what he had done, the reason why he was smirking at me. "It's not 2 o'clock, is it?"Dylan's smirk seemed to grow, his eyes shining as an amused glint appeared in his eyes. His dimples becoming more prominent as I glared angrily at him. "No, we have loads of time. It's only half 9.""Dylan," I screamed making him chuckle more, while agitating me more. "You're such a jerk!" I shouted before grabbing a pillow and hitting him with it.Dylan and I drove towards the mall, it was around a half hour drive from home. The others were meeting us there, Reed was still with his dad and Chase and Chloe had gone to breakfast with Chase's parents. The whole ride consisted of Dylan complaining and freaking out over a human girl who seemed to be infatuated with him, I couldn't help but laugh as he described how disturbed he was at her behaviour. To be fair to him, she did seem to be lovesick and slightly obsessive but that's what happens when you hook up with someone who wasn't your mate. The problem was that the boys seemed to believe that if they hooked up with a human, they didn't have to be concerned about the consequences when their mates show up. Or must deal with the clingy emotions of teenage girls."You hooked up with her three times, what do you expect?"He groaned at my reply, not appreciating my unhelpful answer. "I told her I didn't want anything serious. I'm going to have to meet up with her, she keeps texting me w
I spent the majority of Saturday in bed watching whatever I could find on the television. Chloe had phoned me say that both her and Elle would be arriving around 7 o'clock to pick me up.We had all changed plans, the guys wanted to get to the party earlier which meant Chloe was going to drive us girls down and leave her vehicle there overnight.Apparently, the party was being held in the Alpha's old house. They had moved and were renovating their old property into a second pack house since their numbers were increasing and needed more space.Alpha Gabriel had called Reed last night, inviting him and anyone else he wanted to stay which meant we would all be residing on his territory overnight.Already prepared, I washed and blow-dried my hair the night before. I didn't want my hair to suffer too much from the heat when I straightened it later after my shower.I had already hung up my dress in my wardrobe and hadn't fully decided on what shoes I wanted wear.Dylan and I had eaten anothe
Weeks had passed since I last saw Gabriel, my heart seeming to break a little bit more as the days went by.But lately, I had felt myself healing, the pain still there but the ache loosening.Dylan suspected what had happened, he had tried to pry the details from me but all I would do was cry.I eventually opened up to him, admitting what happened and after that he stuck by me, never leaving my side.Julian and Grace were concerned, and I knew Dylan had told them, Julian ordered him to do so. I was thankful that I didn't have to be the one to explain it, I was incredibly embarrassed and ashamed.Grace had taken turns with Dylan to check up on me, she never pushed me to say anything and she promised that they would not mention anything to the Black Moon Pack. They wouldn't reveal what had happened to anyone but our Alpha.Dylan looked furious when Julian had ordered him to stay away from Gabriel and his territory. Julian had forced Dylan to go on a run, his wolf needing to run off the
"Gabriel, it's me again. I've been calling and leaving you messages for the last three months and you still haven't called me back. What I want to talk to you about has nothing to do with our relationship or lack of." I stared down at Kennedy as she sighed deeply in her sleep, cuddling close to her blanket as she occupied her crib."It's important and I need to speak to you about it, I can't keep leaving you voicemails when we both know you've heard them all. It's not something I want to discuss with you over text. Please Gabriel, if you have any respect for me and our wolves, you will call me back."I stroked my daughter's head, lightly brushing my fingers across her smooth skin. Her features the same as her fathers, making my heart ache.I gulped, my mouth becoming dry suddenly overwhelmed with my emotions as I spoke my next words. "I won't call you again and if you can't pick up the phone and call me back to find out what's so important, then that will be it. I won't bother you aga
Gabriel's POV – the morning of his birthday party:I woke up from the sensations of someone's fingers trailing up and down my bare chest. I pried my eyes open to realise that it was Olivia. She had turned up at my house last night, wanting to "speak to me".We had an on and off again relationship, it wasn't anything serious, I had made this clear to her on many occasions, but she didn't seem to grasp that concept.Olivia was gorgeous but far too clingy for her own good, she was obsessed with the idea of becoming my Luna.I groaned slightly, moving her hands away from my chest as I sat up, my own hands reaching up to clutch my head from the hangover I'm experiencing. The guys had come around last night, having a small celebration for my birthday before the real thing tonight.I felt Olivia shift, sitting up herself as she went to touch my shoulders. I quickly got up, walking towards my bathroom for a shower. I didn't even turn around when Olivia's voice purred, I could practically see
Four years later – Lara's POV |Kennedy and I had travelled across America back to my home territory in California to visit my family and friends from the Blood Walker's Pack. We had arrived over 12 days ago and was due to leave tomorrow.Grace and Julian had taken us in, and I was finally able to meet my new-born nephew Riley. He was gorgeous and looked just like Dylan but had Sophia's bright blue eyes.He was such a calm and quiet baby, he laid so peacefully within your arms and reminded me so much of Kennedy when she was his age.I felt the happiest when I was with my family here, I had missed them terribly while in Texas.Although, I had made many friends and memories in Texas, I wanted to come home. So much had happened while there over the past month, it had made me realise that we needed another new start. While studying at college, I had met Nathan, he was two years older than me and lived only a few doors down the hallway of the pack house. At first, he was charming and sweet
My wolf began pacing back and forth in my mind, she growled lowly wanting to protect her pup. So many questions and thoughts invaded my mind, and I was paralyzed with fear, what was I going to do? Would we make it out of the exit door without being seen?Unaware of footsteps approaching, I'm startled when I hear his deep husky voice utter my name. The sound of my name rolling off his tongue had my body tensing, unable to move from my seat."Lara?" He repeated, his tone shocked and surprised.A cold chill ran down my spine, it was disabling and intense, I couldn't bring my eyes to look up.I simply stared at the table in front of me as if it were the most interesting thing in the world. When he said my name once more, I sighed deeply, biting onto my lip before looking up at him through my eyelashes, watching as his eye line caught onto our daughter, his face scrunching up in bewilderment.I took his frozen state as an opportunity to quickly pick-up Kennedy, placing her onto my hip as I
Gabriel's POV:A long time had passed since I last saw Lara, my mate, who I had rejected four years ago. It had played on my mind for many years, a lot of regret and remorse plaguing my whole being. As I grew older and wiser, I realised how immature and despicable I had been to her.The last two years, I had been searching for her, her family unwilling to provide any details or information on where I could find her. I was furious at first, when Reed had denied me access to his territory. My wolf wanted to invade his pack and start a war because of his noncompliance. He was as enraged with Reed as he was with me, my wolf always wanted Lara, he was possessive and infatuated with her.The power of a mate connection was inconceivable and unimaginable. My wolf cherished her before even knowing her, he could just feel his undying devotion to his mate.I couldn't blame Reed and the rest of the Blood Walkers for refusing me, their Beta Dylan had used the word rejected when we spoke. He had pu
Nates hand flung out, grabbing me roughly by my hair causing a loud screech to exit my mouth. My hands instantly flew up to his grip, trying to pry his hands off. He kept the tight grip while his other hand covered my mouth, muting my screams.I clawed at his throat, my nails digging in deeply at the sensitive skin and he growled lowly at me, pulling me backwards as he dragged me across the woods towards the back of a warehouse. My legs were buckling from beneath me; I moved my hand back to my hair where his hands were, trying to loosen the tight hold he had while my other stayed on my stomach. Nate could not find out about my pregnancy, if he did, we would be in mortal danger. As we grew closer to the warehouse, he shuffled himself, so his arm was around my neck, his arms crushing my throat making it difficult to catch a breath. He held me hostage as he yanked the back door open to the warehouse."Nate," I croaked, my breathing hard and low from his crushing grasp. "I can't breathe."
I felt my heart physically stop when those words left that man's lips. I wanted to cry out in pure joy and excitement, but I also didn't want to get my hopes up. I wouldn't be able to cope with another dead lead.Gabriel's voice echoed through the pack mind link, breaking me from my thoughts. 'All pack warriors and trackers are to meet me outside my home in ten minutes.'Dan and Eli were in the office within minutes, both ready and prepared. Gabriel had provided them with more information and him and the guys were extracting all the information they needed from the tracker who had discovered Kennedy's location.Gabriel and Jayden were both scanning through maps on Gabriel's desk with Jayden pinpointing Kennedy's exact location. "Me along with Kellan had both caught a scent from a rogue, we decided to follow it on a hunch. Turned out he was a member of Marcus's rogue pack. It led to an abandoned warehouse a few towns away, it is three hours from here.""How sure are you that Kennedy is
Nate had taken her.He had kidnapped my daughter and had killed two of our pack warriors. The feelings and sensations that I was feeling were immense. It was fear, terror, anguish and pure murderous.Gabriel grabbed my shoulders harshly, pulling my body to his. His mouth moving, trying to communicate with me, but his words were mute. His lips were speaking but no words were coming out.All my senses had disappeared, fear disabling me.Gabriel shook me roughly, the movement waking me, pulling me out of my shocked state. "Lara!"I closed my eyes, squeezing them tightly, my hands reaching up and into my hair, tugging at it tightly. He wouldn't hurt her; no Nate could never hurt Kennedy. He wouldn't do that. He wouldn't do that. I kept repeating to myself, trying to convince myself of the fact.My wolf was pacing around my mind, begging to be released. She was pushing herself out as I held her down, needing to concentrate instead of allowing her to explode, to let a bomb off that I needed
The last few weeks had passed quickly, the days had been merging as time flew by. We celebrated Gabriel's birthday last week before him and Eli left to visit a bordering pack yesterday morning.Gabriel had informed me that the Alpha wanted to discuss a potential share of land which we owned between the border of both packs.Gabriel was debating the idea since it would bring in business for our pack wolves as the land that he wanted a share in was part of our town. Where many of our wolves owned restaurants, shops, and cafes.Gabriel was still indecisive about the prospect of mixing two packs together; wolves were very territorial creatures and having two packs merge in one area can be explosive. It could also make some of our wolves uncomfortable or wary of the outsiders on their territory. The benefit of it was the revenue it would provide; we did also have a very secured treaty with Alpha Kane. One that had never been betrayed or broken. It was the same pack that Gabriel had trained
Taylor and I both looked up horrified by the intrusive voice, not expecting anyone to have heard our confidential conversation. One Taylor wanted to keep a secret between her and I.Gabriel stood in the doorway, his hand gripping the door handle as his gaze followed to both of ours, his attention landing and staying on mine.Confusion flashed through his eyes as if the information he had heard, sounded incorrect. A frown appeared soon after, the room surrounding in an awkward silence as we all went into a state of shock.Wanting to speak to Gabriel in private and knowing that Taylor needed to rest, I gently squeezed her hand. Rubbing my thumb across her knuckles reassuringly. "Why don't you go to bed and sleep on it. You don't have to make any rash decisions and it will make you feel much better."She agreed before giving me a small smile and heading out the door, brushing past Gabriel as she gave him a respectful nod.Gabriel copied her gesture as we watched her leave our bedroom in
I woke up with a headache, my neck and shoulder in agony from the position I was lying in. Gabriel laid next to me fast asleep, his chest rising and falling. I sat up and yawned, manoeuvring myself off the bed and towards the window.Looking out only to see darkness. It must have been the early hours of the morning, the events of yesterday suddenly invading my mind.Taking a step back, I see Gabriel sitting up, his back leaning against the headboard. "How are you feeling? Michael said you should have healed fully by the morning.""I feel exhausted, but my mind is wide awake." I admitted, walking back towards the bed.Gabriel pulled my body on top of his, his eyes scanning over my injuries, his demeanour protective and possessive as he held onto me tightly. "You can't go for runs on your own any longer, not after today."I frowned, raising my eyebrows. "Why? You killed Olivia; she was the problem. Why would I now need a protective detail?""Because we've still got rogue problems, and t
Gabriel's POV:I was scanning over paperwork that a pack member had asked me to review, he had proposed a business deal and wanted to know if I would be interested in investing. My mind could barely focus, I had been working for the past seven hours straight with no break. It was then that my office door creaked open, Kennedy wrapped tightly in a blanket as she walked towards me, I lifted her up, sitting her down on my lap, her body leaning against mine as she laid her head on my chest. "Not tired baby?""No, I don't want to sleep anymore." She replied, her eyes looking down at the mess that occupied my desk."Want to colour for a little while? I have a few things I need to finish and then we'll watch a movie?" I suggested, already grabbing some plain paper from the drawer along with some coloured pens.Kennedy nodded excitedly, moving from my lap and running towards the couch, pens and paper in hand. She stayed there for a while, silently colouring as I continued to work.My phoned b
Eli, Taylor, Gabriel and I had been painting Kennedy's bedroom all day, the room was practically finished when I decided to make everyone lunch. We had taken two days to finish it, the rest of the house was already decorated.Kennedy had also taken part in helping decorate, she had been messing around with Gabriel for hours until he decided to pour pink paint over our heads which took hours to remove, his action caused Kennedy to giggle, while I screamed and chased after him.Eli didn't help the situation when he dipped his hands into a paint pot, purposely grabbing Taylor on the ass, pink handprints ruining her jeans. We found ourselves in the paint shop, having to spend more money on paint since it had been wasted on us rather than the bedroom walls. We had even moved in all our belongings over the past two weeks, the first week I was going through heat. The process after mating, where your body goes into overdrive, only the touch of your mate able to cool you down. Heat was there t
Four days had passed since the twins birthday celebrations and thankfully, I hadn't seen nor heard from Olivia. Gabriel had commanded her to stay away from Kennedy and I, that she was to keep her distance if she wanted to remain part of the pack.I couldn't help but feel unhappy with the situation but at the same time I could understand why Gabriel didn't want to exile Olivia from the pack. It wasn't in our nature to abandon our pack members so easily especially when you're an Alpha. He felt a responsibility to her and made it clear, it was her last chance.I almost felt sorry for her, she had concluded in her own mind that Gabriel wanted her, that he viewed her as his mate, his chosen one.Their relationship had been a sexual one but nothing more, she had obviously caught more feelings than he had.But continuously causing a drama between Gabriel and I was unacceptable, she needed to be put into her place. The audacity of inviting herself to Gabriel's sisters birthday party while lyi
