—Lena's POV— “Ok then, hopefully the kid is still alive.” He says. “Yea, hopefully.” I say but I don't say what's on my mind who's is that the kid is probably dead. We continue walking and I can feel him watching me, I know he has questions but he better come out and say it because I'm not going to help him. “Can I ask you something?” He asked. “It depends.” I tell him. “On what?” He asked. “Does it have to do with work?” I asked him. “No, it doesn't.” He tells me. “Then it's my personal life then, well you can ask but I make no promises to answer.” I tell him. “It’s about your children actually, is their father in the picture?” He asked me. I knew he was going to ask me this and I already prepared an answer for him. “Yes, he is. He didn't come with us because he has a big project back at work, but he'll come visit them when he has the chance.” I tell him and the lie just slips easily off my tongue.
—Lena's POV— I held my breath, waiting for Katy to give me an answer, I really did not want to dig up a little girl, yes it was necessary but that doesn't mean that I like it. “Actually, she is, but she's unresponsive, she's in a coma, she isn't getting any better it worse.” Katy explains to me. “Ok, that's good. Can you take me to her room and I'm going to need her chart.” I tell Katy. “Of course Doctor Lena, just follow me.” Katy tells me and then me and Leo follow behind her. She takes us up some flight of stairs and we enter a room that I presume is the intensive care unit. “So all these people here are in a coma?” I asked Katy. “Yes, but none are medically induced, they all just fell into it.” Katy tells me and then we get to the end of the hall and she slides open a door where a little girl who looks no older than six or seven years old is on the bed and hooked to different machines. “Is this Brie?” I asked. “Yes, that's
—Twenty Five Years Earlier— There are two families, one a poor family and the other a rich family. The first family are the Avery's, they are a family of farmers but they are also shifters and the wife is pregnant. The second family are the Windsor's, rich, influential and also shifters, the wife is also pregnant. It's morning and the farmer is out in the field while his wife is at home, she's currently on bed rest because she's so close to her due date. “My sweet, beautiful baby, soon you'll come and join me and your father. Now we may not have much, but we have enough and we are content. I can't wait to meet you my sweet one.” Alana Avery talked to the baby in her belly. On the other side was Kate Windsor who was having not such a good pregnancy experience thanks to her husband the Alpha. “I'm telling you Kate, you've disappointed more than enough times. You're a woman and you have only one job, get pregnant and give me an heir but you can't even
—Alpha Leo's POV— “Am I wrong Leo?” She asked me and I had no words because she was right. I did choose Scarlett and Lena hadn't turned out to be the doctor, I truly don't know if I would've seemed her out to apologise. “You're right, I did choose Scarlett and in that moment all I thought about was myself and how happy I was that she was back in my life, nothing else mattered, you didn't matter. But time passed and I realised how cruel I was because you didn't deserve to be treated like that and the truth is I didn't bother to find you because I was a coward, I didn't know how you would react. But when I say I am sorry, I mean it Lena, I'm so sorry for what I did to you, for rejecting you that way and for the loss of the baby.” I tell her and I hope she can see how sincere I am. She doesn't say anything for a while, she just stares at me. “Thank you.” She says as then she continues walking which I take to mean she doesn't want to talk about this subject anymore
—Lena's POV— As soon as I enter my lab, I lean against the wall and let out a huge sigh of relief. I did it, I survived spending time with him. I didn't think I could, but I did. He seemed to believe my lie about the kids also and he also seemed very sincere with his apology but it still doesn't change what he did to me. Also there was some serious tension between him and Scarlett, looks like all is not well in their paradise, I need to go home, see my kids, have a glass of wine and talk this over with Zoey. I look at my watch and it's just one in the afternoon, I can't leave now, I still have time to kill. I push Leo out of my mind and walk into the lab. “Good afternoon Doctor Everhart.” Emmett, my lab assistant greets me. “Good afternoon Emmett, did you just get in?” I asked him and I looked around the lab and see that he had already started working, he has washed all the beakers and they're currently drying while one set is getting sterilised. “Yes, I c
—Alpha Leo's POV— I couldn't sit still after my talk with Zeo, he left to go talk with Gabe and then I answered the emails that I had and signed some documents that Zeo left for me on my table. Since the whole disease he had taken over day to day running of our business in the city because all my focus had to be on the pack and finding a cure. After I was done with all of that, I still couldn't sit still, I had this feeling in my gut that something was wrong but I didn't know if I should trust it, it could just be me wanting an excuse to spend more time with Lena. I sat down for another ten minutes but I couldn't do it anymore, I got up and left the house. It had been about two hours since I last saw her and if I got there and nothing was wrong she would think that I'm stalking her so I better come up with a good explanation. I got to the entrance of the lab and her assistants car was gone but there was another scent that wasn't Lena's, a scent that I would rec
—Lena's POV— The moment they left, I let out a huge sigh of relief and slumped down on my chair, I did my best to hold back my tears. How dare she? She knew how to hit me where it hurt, she knew just what screw to twist, yes I am now rich and successful, but I wasn't always like that. It's true what she said, my parents were poor farmers, but it never bothered me because we were comfortable just the three of us, we had food to eat and we were happy. It wasn't until I started attending school that's when it started to bother me, I was bullied every single day because of my status and it also didn't help that I was born an omega. That's why after all those years of constant bullying it came as a surprise to me when Leo asked me to marry him, I thought it was a joke or a prank at first but then he showed me how serious he was and after that, people stopped with the insults and talking behind my back. Even after Leo rejected me, I did my best to come up in this world
—Lena's POV— Zoey sounded very dangerous at that moment. “You need to calm down Zoey, remember you promised. Plus I'm fine, she didn't do anything to me, luckily Leo came in at that moment and even if he didn't I would've handled it myself. So please take a few deep breaths for me.” I tell her and after a few moments she takes a deep breath and retracts her claws. “I'm calm now, don't worry, I won't go off and rip off that bitch's head, at least not today.” She says with a smirk on her face. I don't say anything, because with Zoey that's as good as I'm going to get it. “So, what did Leo do?” Zoey asked. “He apologized to me and dragged her out of there, she didn't seem happy about it.” I told her. “I bet she wasn't, but what's the deal with the both of them. I thought they would be living la vida loca but it seems like something is wrong with their marriage.” Zoey finally voices out what I've been thinking. “Yeah, I think so too.” I t
